Root/SD Question - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I ordered a 64gb microsd card for my tab s and when I opened it last night, I accidently crack the sd card in half :crying: Long story short I want to root my tab s asap but my sd card replacement wont come for another 2 weeks so should I wait for it to arrive then root? Or should I just go ahead then when my card comes just transfer everything to the sd card. If someone could give me some insight that would be great.

Doesn't really matter, root gives you a bunch of privileges like running titanium backup but using an SD card or not is a non issue.

What are you trying to do?
Root doesn't need an SD card. (I assume you are using cf-autoroot). You run that using ODIN. (I just ran it tonight but my SD card is installed, and I'm also still running NF9 firmware)
When you get your SD card, mount/format it if it needs it. Copy anything you want to your SD Card. An SD card is just storage.
Is there something I'm am missing that would make it more complicated than that?

Damaged SD Card

I managed to get CyanogenMod 7 RC2 up and running. I noticed that I had a lot of junk on my SD card so I thought that I could back it up and then wipe it because most/all of the useful stuff was on the internal memory of the DHD. But, for some reason, my phone is telling me that my SD card is damaged.
I don't think that there is anything wrong with the SD card because I just did a copy/paste thing to back it up. Also, I've put in another SD card and it also says that it's damaged. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Run fix_permissions and reboot

Thanks for the reply, but I don't think I can do that. I can't put that on my SD card because there if I try to connect it with the computer, I can't mount the SD card or turn on the usb sharing thing. I'll be able to reformat the SD card soon because I'm borrowing a friend's micro sd card to sd card converter.
I tried Fix Permissions by going into recovery and advanced options, but that didn't work =/
Also, I remember now that I uninstalled "Goldcard Helper" because it said it was downloaded to my SD card so I thought that I could uninstall it and be able to clean up my SD card completely. Maybe that had some effect on this?
Got my friend's converter so now I can plug the micro SD directly into my computer. Oddly enough, it said I had to format it before I could use it which is essentially what my phone was telling me to do too.
I'll wipe it then see if it works
Perfect! I think it is working completely now! One last question of what I should do now that it's working. Can I plug it in, restore a few pictures I had, and just let Android take over from there? It's completely blank on the SD card so will Android know what to do with it?

[Q] evo messed up with new sd card

ok so today i got my new sd card in the mail. I put it in and went to boot it up and it wont go past splashscreen. Not thinking, I already deleted my old memory card and didnt back it up. What do i need to do to get my phone back up and running. I did a search but looks like all the threads the user had nandroid backup. I do not. thanks
Are you rooted? Was your old memory card partitioned? Where did you purchase this card from? Does it work in a pc card reader?
No matter what, any android phone can boot up android without an sd card, it will just tell you there is no sd card when you boot up.

Need help with new SDcard path and Clockworkmod

Hi, I am hoping someone can help me figure out how to fix this issue. I had a 32gb micro sd card in my new Galaxy S3 that I just got a few days ago. I went and rooted the device with the 32gb card.
Today I picked up a 64gb micro sd card and put it in and went into Clockworkmod to do a back up to my sd card and it tells me there is an error and it can find the path to the external sd card. I put all the files in the root of the 64gig card just like I did on the 32gig card.
Is there a way to reset everything to make clock work mod see the new card? Cause it just keeps giving me errors when I try to do anything with the new card in clock work mod.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help
By default 64gb cards are formatted as exfat. CWM does not and probably willneversupport exfat file systems. Your best bet is to get it formatted as fat32.

will see if this works. Thank you I really do appreciate it.

[Q] Help! SD card problem

Help! SD card problem.
Hey guys,
Today, my phone wouldn't respond out of nowhere, so I decided to turn it off. When I turned it back on,all of my apps and valuable data were gone. I decided to restart the phone to see if that would fix the problem, but it didn't. I took out the sd card from the phone and I placed it back in, booted the phone, but that didn't help at all. I tried to use a card reader to access the files through my computer, but the computer could not detect it! I don't know what to do. Do you think there is a way I can fix the SD card? I don't really wanna buy a new one because it was a waste of money. :/ Please help guys..
I have a 16gb class 4 SDHC memory card and I am using Int2ext4 Cronmod.
Can you access your sd card through any file manager app on your phone?

[Q] Problems with SanDisk MicroSDHC 64GB card

Hi this is my first time posting a question on here so I'm hoping I'm doing this correctly
I recently received a SanDisk Ultra 64GB MicroSDHC card to use in my AT&T Note II phone. When I inserted the external SD card into my phone, everything mounted correctly and functioned right. However, when I tried to transfer my pictures and music into to the external SD card from my internal SD card using the stock app My Files, it would say that everything moved to my external SD card, but when I checked it, nothing was in the external SD card and the files that i had moved from my internal SD card were gone. So I backed up all my files from the internal SD card to my laptop to make sure I don't lose files again.
Afterwards I tried all of these methods to get files to properly into the external SD card:
I tried connected the external SD card directly to my laptop using an adapter and moved the files there
I tried moving files to the external SD card while it was in my phone
I also tried using KIES and KIES Air to move files into my external SD card
The first two methods didn't even have files show in the external SD card. The third method, using KIES and KIES air had files in the external SD card but they were corrupted where I can open my picture and it's a icon of a man of some kind and my music files just wouldn't play.
So I just factor reset my phone hoping that this would fix this problem and I haven't tried moving files yet. I'm hoping that perhaps it was an app that was conflicting with the external SD card.
I know that my external SD card is not fake because it came in a legitimate package and I also ran a software (that I can't remember the name of) that puts in data in the external SD card until it fills up and reads the data to see how much actually went in.
Could anybody tell me what the problem is and how I can fix it? I can't go back to the store and exchange it because it was a gift and there's no receipt. Thank you so much for your help.

well seee if it works on other phone if not then sent it back to sandisk service center they dont need any proof of purchase just the sd card packet pic will do as proof as it comes with lifetime warranty , just sent them a mail and report if its faulty and they will ask u to send the sd card back to sandisk center and they will send u a new sd card :good:
if they ask for a sd card no just chk your sd card back it written over there and not on the package as the org number they need is available in sd card back
