I do not have it set to auto. The brightness keeps dropping from Max to about 10% less then back.Very annoying.

I've had my One X for a week or so now and seem to be having some issues with the Auto Brightness since upgrading to 1.28.
I am still using stock, un-rooted rom and I leave Auto-brightness on most of the time. Sometimes when my battery might be nearing empty I use a widget called 'Dimmer' which just toggles between whatever the current setting is and the lowest possible brightness (it represents that as 10 out of 255). If you use the normal brightness slider, the lowest value (at least according to 'Dimmer' ) is 30.
Now recently when I unlock my phone, the screen has been constantly dim and the brightness is set to 30, which means that Auto Brightness is NOT on and Dimmer is not on. When I check in the settings, the brightness slider is all the way down and I never set this up.
I used dimmer for about a year before now on my old Desire and it was flawless so I doubt its that, and it seems to work on 1.26 fine.
Just wondering if anyone else had been seeing random brightness drops or Auto Brightness disabling sometimes? If so, are you using a 'Dimmer' like widget?
Thanks,

Hello.
I just received my ZL and noticed the following compared to my previous android smartphones.
I'm currently using auto-brightness ("Adapt to lighting conditions") mostly because the screen uses so much power.
Now, when I watch a video in MXPlayer, and turn the brightness to max (well, it's set to play video's at max brightness), the screen doesn't go to max brightness but instead uses the auto-brightness slider settings (as if you are using auto-brightness with slider maxed out).
When I turn off auto-brightness, the max brightness is way way higher.
On my other phones, MXplayer would disable auto-brightness and use the max brightness supported.
Any one know any way to change this?
Thanks
Sometimes when I'm in a dimmer area, my display will be so dim I can hardly see it. This doesn't happen in brighter areas.
For reference, it is far far dimmer than brightness setting 1. I have the watch set to auto brightness and ambient off.
Anyone else seeing this?
Yeah, it seems that the 360's auto brightness setting is (at least sometimes) pretty aggressive in low light conditions.
Same here, and I hate that. I always have to go into the settings when the room light is dim, and switch off auto brightness and change to the 1 setting.

I'm almost positive it's a bug, the low brightness of 1 isn't too bright for very dark situations and the dimmed mode is simply too dim.
I'm pretty sure auto-brightness should turn on at level 1 (if it's dark) and then go to the ultra-dimmed mode before the screen times-out just like in normal brightness.
I don't think I've seen this bug happen in the daytime though, so it does seem like a bug at brightness level 1 only
Any solution to this problem? Drives me crazy.
Thanks
Smart Brightness for Moto 360
Try Smart Brightness for Moto 360. This application allows to set auto brightness with a minimum brightness to avoid a dimm screen on dark situations.

Hi,
Does anyone know how to limit the range of adjustment of the auto brightness? The autobrightness is very sensitive which I like but it increases the brighness too much in realtion to the ambient light . For example in the morning with clear cloud and no sun, autobrightness goes up to 93% whereas I would have wanted it to be at max 70%.
hey guys,
im having trouble with adaptive brightness since some time and i am pretty sure sth has changed there.
my screen is just to dark for the most time.
some time ago i could just increase the brightness value and the adaptive brightness would work with that (higher) value, like an anchor value.
now, by doing that, i just change the overall brightness and it will jump back after some time.
is this the same for you guys? it gets obviously when being in a dark room and ramping up the brightness (with adaptive brightness enabled) to 100 percent. now when i disable adaptive brightness, exactly nothing changes in terms of brightness, however former times, there would be still an increase in brightness since 100 percent with adaptive brightness does not equal 100 percent on manual brightness (at least in a dark place). now it does.
is this the same for you? was this an update or sth?
latest stock pie, with caesium kernel.
Something in kernel settings?

nothing set in settings.
also just tried another one, kikasura or how it is callled. same thing.
just that we are on the same page here: you still can increase the anchor value in brightness settings. or will it, too, just increase your overall brightness for a short time and as soon as lights change or you lock the screen it will be back to previous values?
I stop using auto brightness because some times he is crazy.
I prefer manual mod, like this I have the hand on it and i consum lot less battery (It's my feeling)
Adaptive Brightness is still working fine for me. The way I like to "calibrate" it is when in pitch dark, I set it all the way down to 0. From there it'll always go maximum when in sunlight and indoors it's somewhere in between and does fine. If that's not enough, try resetting adaptive brightness:

It is happening the same to me on very low light scenarios, auto brightness will go to the lower value, setting the screen without almost no bright, besides I put it manually higher. Maybe this happened after a update I dont know.
