[Q] SGT 3 10.1 wont turn on - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My sgt 3 wont turn on. haven't used it about like 2 months, so It has been completly shut down, now when Im trying to charge it it says, "Voltage to low, need to be above 3.4v" And Im charing with an iPad adapter, which should be fine, right? I dont have the original charger.
Actually I dont know what rom I even use, think it was CAGROM, not sure. How do I start it up? Cant get to recovery even..

Do you have another Samsung device? Or any recent device. While it may seem like the USB chargers would all have the same voltage, they do not. I have plugged my Galaxy S5 into the port on a Charger delivered with an iPhone 5s and it charged much more slowly.
I suggest trying a different USB adapter. If it still does not charge you may have to open the Tab unplug and re attach the battery cable.

Yes I've but that is for a Nexus 5 (LG original), and the adapter is pretty small, dont think it's 3.4v in that one. I've tried diffrent cables, and that didnt help.

agdi,
you can try plugging you tab to a powered usb port on your pc.
leave it sit overnight, if you can power it on come morning,
turn off wifi, mute sound, disable location/sync and drop you screen brightness as low as it will go,
then suspend your tab and leave it connected to suck up more of a charge.
your charger needs to be
input 100-240V~ 50-60Hz 0.35A
output 5.3V===2.0A

I got this one charging that my sister dropped off to fix by removing the back un-clipping the battery connector then clipping it back in it back in

Phone doesn't know it's plugged in.

When the phone is off and plugged into the wall, it charges. When the phone is on, and I plug it into the wall or computer, the phone doesn't know it's plugged in.
I ordered a brand new usb charging flex jack and replaced the old one, still the same problem. What gives?
EDIT: I am stock. Not rooted.
Does this happen on the original cable also?
Have you tried wiping?
Is Fast Charge on?
Fk. It doesn't even charge from the wall! When the phone is off, it has the animation that says it's charging when i plug it in the wall. I left it plugged into the wall overnight. This morning I took a look at the phone, and it didn't charge!
Oh noez, what should i do?
Also, I don't have the original cable. I'm using an HTC one.
EDIT: Dafuq?! I found an LG charger. Apparently the phone knows that it's charging when I charge with that. The thing is, that charger is just a charger; it's not a usb cable+ an adaptor. So I can't use it for adb and such.

You should mention what ROM you're on (and version) so that no one else makes the same mistake I did in assuming you had a custom ROM and that Fast Charge is on. It's a feature that makes sure that whatever charges it is recognised as AC 1amp charger as some chargers aren't designed well enough (I believe it involves a single solder point) to report themselves as capable of 1A. If it doesn't report as AC to Android, it will charge at 500mA instead (it assumes USB power). It sometimes causes problems with connecting to PC via USB.
Get another USB cable, this time none of that fancy **** go straight to OE Samsung or something.
=O I thot all usb cables are made equal! So I can't use an HTC usb cable? The dude didn't sell me the phone with a cable T.T
Also, I'm stock. I am not even rooted.
My nexus just started acting stupid when I plug it in also.
Mine sat in a drawer for a few weeks and when I plugged it in to charge, it wouldn't.
What I did was this.
plug device into charger
remove battery for a few seconds
replace battery
press power button
phone powered up and began charging.
Even now, it still sometimes doesn't recognize the charger and I have to unplug and plug it in until it does.
I use a rocketfish cable.

Some devices are picky, you'd think that all USB cables are made equal (I did too) but some just don't work well with certain devices. I've had printers th... wait printers always have **** problems... I've had uh... usb extensions not work well with some Wifi dongles and such. My old milestone didn't like the Samsung cable either (yet the Moto cable works perfectly on gnex)
=O. Then it has to be the usb cable! No way it's not!
I ordered one on ebay =D
Rooted Gnex here I come!

Thank you dmappdev,
I followed your procedure (feel like talking about surgery here, which isn't too far from topic); I'm convinced that it helped in some way, directly or indirectly... as at first, my Galaxy S Advance still wouldn't recognize/charge my phone with:
1. its own charger,
2. my old Galaxy Ace's charger,
3. a universal wall usb plug used with the S Advanced own USB-to-USBmini cable.
My last idea was to use, quote: an old Nokia USB cable connected to my PC... and that worked.
I was much too happy my phone had remembered how to charge to stay mad... But I still tried those three means for charging again, and only the phone's original charger worked now. So the phone's charging ability has been "awakened" in some way, but only for the original charger ...technology is improving, but not the ethics on making life easier for the consumer.
All this was yesterday. This morning (there's more, yes), I saw my phone indicating a 100% charge although it had been disconnected from charge for several hours - something that had already happened once yesterday, before the unable-to-charge situation; a simple reboot took care of the problem, the battery status now showing a more realistic 53%.
Any comments to any of the above? If not, thanks again for your tip anyway !!!

USB wires, right and wrong ones?

I have a 2meter USB to MicroUSB cable(EBAY) plugged into mains which does Not charge the phone when screen is on. In fact it Loses charge when watching films .
But when l plug in the one that came with the phone (1 meter) it charges the phone no problem, regardless of what you are doing.
Anybody have any ideas for why this is happening?
Length of wire? or just bad quality of wire? But l have tried a few different 2m ones. Same drain.
(Also same results with different roms)
Cheers me dears

You might have noticed that smaller the phone, the larger the charging cable comes with it.
and the larger phone, and tablets have decreasing charger cable lengths. Also, the charging cable become thicker as the device becomes more power hungry.
This all comes down to a simple explaination that longer and thinner cables have more impedance, and thicker and shorted cables have less resistance...
This is to cover up for the amount of power the device will consume in order to get charged, and hence, result in a different "quality" of charge.
Also, some cable, like that of Nokia, do not run on touchscreen samsung phones. This may also be because of the difference in power output, as they may not fulfill the requirements which the latter needs.
Ok, so how about getting a beefier longer wire? I've seen a brand one for 10 £ claiming to be grippier blah blah. Obviously no claim for what it's able to charge and how fast.
Will this change anything?
I'm guessing im doomed to be always leaning in to the wall if wanting to use the phone and getting it charged.
And thanks for explaining things, sadly that is what I feared.

It is not definitely that beefier and shorter wires will charge quickly/better. They need to have correct power ratings and other j7mbo mumbo, which is most definitely best in the stock charger you get
Just buy a usb extension cable with plug and socket on each end. You have to use the Samsung charger AND the Samsung USB> MiroUSB cable. Beetween you place the extension cable.
The reason is, in the Micro-USB-Plug of the Samsung-Cable, i think there is a Resistor between pin 4 and 5 that makes the Phone change into high-charging Mode (AC-charging).
Otherwise on USB-Charging you have only 500 mA. That is not enough for the Note 2, if the Screen is on. The Phone will not charge.
regards
Thanks. .. should of tried that. Forgot I've loads of them.

Same here, with random internet cables it just doesn't charge fast, but yes with the original.
I was looking for some good cables to use it but I didn't see any info to know what are the faster ones for charging.
Right, some bad news regarding USB extenders, I used a 2 meter extender with the white stock Samsung cable.. screen on, torrent app downloading, did NOT charge at all. But did not lose anything either.
I then found a 0.3 meter USB extender with stock Samsung. And it is charging, but I would say it isn't as fast(very close to normal), but the main thing it is slowly charging. Make what you will of this.
My USB extenders are from ebay crap
I have a s2 original charger
Output 0.79 takes 7 hrs to charge note2
Original note 2 charger is fast charger
Output 2.00 tkes 4 hrs to charge the phone
So it depends upon the uotput of the charger as i use the s2 usb to charge wt note 2 charger and again used the note 2 usb to charge 5he phonr at both time the chargin time was same
So i think the length or thilness of the cable dosent matter only thing matters is the charger output
Secondly if u use nonoem cables or chargers the usb port may give off or ur phone freezes while chargin so pls avoid nonoem cables
U can use oem cables of sony , htc, blackberry, even micromax and spice in india which r runnin androud but dont use first copy of chargers ir cables as they would harm ur phone

[Q] 120v/USB wall combo outlet charges everything but the galaxy S4

Today I picked up and installed two combo 120v/USB wall outlets so I can get rid of all the wall warts I currently have. The USB ports charge everything (tablet, HTC phone, Bluetooth) but the two galaxy S4's I have. Has anyone used one of the outlets before? Any ideas on why they will not charge the S4's?
The Specs for the USB side of the outlet is.
Switching Frequency Typical 140 kHz
Output Voltage Nominal 5V (+/- 10%)
Protection Current Limiting and Thermal Shutdown Protection
Output Current Constant Current Maximum 2.1A
The outlet is a Commercial Spec Grade Combination USB Charger made by Cooper Industries
Part number is TR7745 if anyone wants to look it up for any reason.
Thank you in advance for your help.
change usb cables
Try changing to a different USB cable. It's weird how often this is the problem.
What does it do when you plug it in? Does it do anything at all? Does it even act like it's connected? Does it TRY and charge but just can't keep up? I have ones by Leviton that work fine with my S4 and my fiancees iPhone/iPad.
EDIT: I just noticed if you look at the reviews on Amazon HERE it seems multiple people have had problems with the S4 and this model. One thing I noticed with most that I looked at before buying mine was that the listed current was shared between the ports, whereas the Leviton version has one port that's 2.1 amps and one that's 1 amp independent of each other. This one might be 2.1 amps shared, so anything else plugged in might not work out.

I'm having the same problem. It's listed as "dual 2.1A". The first second I plug it in it flashes the charging indicator, then it goes off. No charging happening whatsoever.

Did you ever have any luck with the S4 problem? Does it make a difference which side you plug the USB cable into?

Try using a different usb cable from phone to charger,
be sure both ends have a snug fit and it should work.
I have one which is similar to yours.
Since it puts out 2.1ma just like the stock S4 wall charger
it should charge just as fast.
Good luck!

Unfortunately no. I didn't mention before that I'm an EE, however, none of the troubleshooting steps I could think of had any effect. :crying:
Can use A Cooper USB Electric Outlet with S3 and S4
I saw this thread while trying to solve this very issue. I have the Cooper USB outlet and installed it thinking it would charge my phone and my wifes. It would charge her S3, but not my S3. She has the LTE version (SGH-I747) and I have the HSPA version (GT-I9300). Well I thought it would not charge my S3. After playing with it for a few minutes, I could get the charge light on the outlet to blink. No charging was happening as the charge light on the outlet would just blink and then stay off. On my wifes S3 I could plug it in it would start charging instantly.
After playing with my S3 and the cord (The same cord used for my wifes S3 as I had already tried numerous cords) I found I could slowly insert the micro usb end into my S3 and it would start charging. It was tricky, but after 30 minutes of wasted time, I got it to charge. I would have to ever so slowly plug it in, either at a sideways angle or at a slightly elevated angle. This was regardless of the usb cord used.
However my S3 died and I got an S4. Naturally my S4 would not charge just by plugging it in, but I tried the "slow insert" method, on both the micro USB side and the outlet side and both worked.
I am thinking there is some kind of tolerance issue surrounding the electrical connections. Sliding the USB connector in slowly at the outlet side, I beleive, would ground the connection first and then allow for charging, but this is where my knowledge of electricity starts to bad. That said it is possible to use the charge, but it is not plug and play.
I just picked up a couple of these for the kitchen to alleviate the eyesore of the wall warts and I can also confirm it charges everything I have thrown at it except my S4 (jfltezvw) =( I quickly found this post after googling it. I am currently doing some work on the phone now but I will attempt the super technical "plug it in slowly" later and see if it works =)
Has anyone had any luck with other brands? I find this REALLY odd.
just installed this same outlet, and sure enough it charges everything except the S4..."slow insert" doesn't seem to work...does anybody know of any other solutions besides not using it?
wall charger option
I also have one of these outlet/usb from cooper that will not work with my s4.
Has anyone tried to use a DUAL POWER micro USB cord (like the ones that comes with the portable hard drives) to see if that would do the trick?
unfortunately, I do not have one of these cables, or I would try it myself.
Here's what I am thinking is happening...
The S4 is equipped with a smart charger that can trickle charge after a complete charge cycle.
When first connected, the s4 starts a trickle charge while it tests the battery for the charge cycle.
The cooper is equipped with a current limiter that shares power between the two outlets.
The cooper unit sees the trickle charge, and switches to a lower current setting for the slot with the s4 plugged in. reserving current for the empty outlet.
The s4 then tries to engage a fast charge, but cant due to the lack of current, and shuts down the charge circuit.
If a dual usb cord to micro usb cable was used, both outlets would be tied to the s4, and full power would be available to the s4 at all times.
Of course, without a cable myself, this is almost all conjecture on my part, and I could be just blowing smoke up my own arse, huh?
LoVoltage
EDIT: Of course, remember that the cable you use has to have the D+ jumper to signify the 2.1 amp availability. If you don't, the cable won't work. (Most dual port usb cables have this jumper already. so does the OEM samsung cable)
Just installed one of these tonight. Specifically the Cooper TR7745/TR8245 15A/125V
I can charge my Note 2 (SGH-I317), Nexus 7 wifi, but not an Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337). Kinda weird.

[Q] Why AC charging becomes USB charging? HELP ME Please!

I always use a HTC usb cable and iPad charger for my note 2 and they work perfectly.
But today when I use them to charge my note 2, I find it charging very slowly.
I check the batter status and find it is USB charging while I use the wall charger.
I plug it out and plug in again , the problem remains.
Resolution: When I restart my Note 2 and use another cable , it turns back to AC cable.
But I don't know which one is faulty? My phone or my cable?
My phone: stand by for 17 days and I didn't charge it cuz I only use this to answer phone calls.
My cable: no physical damage and use perfectly before, though I use it with other devices.
what's more: After I use another USB cable , I try the previous one again and it works well ...
I don't know why.
Is it happening to you guys as well? Is it gonna harm my note 2?

[SOLVED] SM-P605 (kitkat) battery charging problem

It is solved! Some 3rd-party usb chargers have same issue.
Samsung standard charger works very well.
I have a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition (Hongkong, TGY).
Yesterday I updated my device to 4.4.2 (P605ZSUCNE3_P605OZSCNE3_TGY) with Odin.
Upgrading was OK, everything works fine except a battery charging problem.
When device connects to a usb charger, the battery stops charging after 1-2 minutes although not 100%.
I tried something but nothing helps.
- Changing charger/cable to another
- Factory reset (Recovery mode)
- Flashing P605XXUCNE2_P605OXACNE2_NEE (Nordic) Firmware
- Power off mode charging -> It works. This is the only way to make device 100% that I found.

I've got the same issue following the 4.4.2 update, all my third party charges that worked fine before the update no longer work. Battery management software show the device getting the same mA of current to the battery but the device is not charging (it says that it is!).
Original charger does work but is not a valid solution for me, why are the non-oem chargers not working all of a sudden and how do I get them to work again?

I'm having the same problem, trying to fix with some charger mods (shorting data pins of USB) or fast charge kernel. The kernel hack did not work yet, but shorting the d+ and d+ pins of usb cable on device end works. (although I could achive max 1.5mah)
According to this
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...t-on-the-note-3-but-there-is-a-root-solution/
Samsung denies any intentional blocking and a connection between KitKat and third party accessories.
I tried my third party chargers and they too didn't work. Charging stopped when the screen turned off. However, my Motorola and HTC chargers do work. Maybe the third party tings have inconsisten voltage output or something like that.
I had the new Tab s 10.5 and some of my usb chargers would not work. I found a deal way to good to pass up so I returned the Tab s and THOUGHT I was getting a Note 10.1 2014 wifi. Yet lol I didnt I got a 605 which is AWESOME ..I just always wanted the SnapDragon chip. It was a tad over $400 32gb NEW.
Anyway so I turn it on set it up and it was downloading 4.4 already I wanted to stay with 4.3 after reading around here. Yet so far it works flawless. All my usb chargers work. I can be doing ANYTHING and it keeps charging. Like I said the Tab s I could ONLY use Samsungs.
In my case Android 4.4 for P605 is way better than 4.3. Great battery live, great performance, no or very small lags. But I had initial release of 4.3 ROM which was never updated.
I have a third party charger and it goes well. It is Chinese no marks.
If it is just shorting the data pins, then it will charge. But you will be limited to 1500mah.
I think it needs an Apple compatible charger. Only the Apple standard supports charging over Usb 2 at 2A, for the Ipad.
The Anker 5 port 8A charger is fantastic.

No, I did that mistake and bought a dual port 4a charger. Samsung somehow detects Apple charger and stops charging when screen turns off. I had to make an adapter for shorting data pins, like this, I can at least charge with 1.5a
while i was on vacation my p605 starts having the same problem. It is just loading while the screen is on. After getting black/off it takes a few more seconds till charging stops. This problem is accompanied by the symptom that the tablet won't be recognized by the pc anymore. It is just loading ('til the screen gets black). i have no idea what to do. i am not sure, if the different voltage on vacation could be a reason. based on the fact that i can't get it back to stock, i guess i can not get it repaired by warranty (or is there any way to get it stock? unfortunately mobile odin is not supported). i would be glad about some good hints and thank you in advance
Your cable or charger might have a problem or you may be using a different charger than original one.
Hi everyone,
I've found a bit different issue - my P605 (LTE) does not want to be charged when plugged into USB port (so, no charger is being used).
I tried both using laptop and stationary PC
//ok, nevermind. I've just found somewhere else, that it has been always like that (not noticed that before)
Exact same problem here - charging stops as soon as the screen lock kicks in, even with the original Samsung charger. Brought the tablet back to the tmobile store and had them connect to another Samsung charger - still happens.
Has anyone found a fix for this short of shorting the harger pins?
I don't follow my own advice, and never had this problem. But charge with the original cable where the two GND pins are connected. In most cables one of them is open.
My old Garmin Street Pilot with mini usb used the second GND pin to determine whether to remain operational and charge, or go into pc connectivity mode and do nothing else.
I have the same problem . After upgrading to Kit kat just a few days ago it would stop charging moments after the screen turns off. No matter what cable or charger
This happens to me only when I'm not using original 5.3v charger and original cable. Check your cable and charger. (although I think it works with 5v Samsung charger of my note 3 as well)
My last charger had 4.9v with no load, and certainly lower with a 2A load. No Problems. But if a charger is badly stabilized, it may drop too much, and the Note is very demanding, with twice the current of a typical phone.
I had a DIY adapter to charge my old Nokia stuff via USB. The Nokia chargers have a 5v spec, but one provided 6v, another 7v. And USB voltage seemed too low, there was sort of sporadic charge, with the connection dropping after a short time. But all connections were fine, must have been a voltage thang.
So i still have to keep a Nokia charger ready, only to charge my Nokia BT headset.
Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition Charging Fail
Has anyone discovered a fix for this:
When I plug in my tablet...Samsung Galaxy Note 2014 Edition...Using any plug (I have tried factory charger, and multiple alternatives including Ipad Charging adapters) when the screen is on the charging occurs, but When the screen closes about 2 seconds later the screen turns back on the way it does when charge is complete, only its still at same battery level as before! I have tried closing all apps and still the same, Used Task Manager to close all apps and clear the RAM and still nothing, Gone into app manager and closed running processes and still the same results! I am operating KitKat (OS since purchase) and the only actual way to charge it is to leave a plug in all day with the screen On, or shut off the Tablet!
Is there a fix for this or what?
Its bad enough that I cant find a good bluetooth keyboard that is compatible with this tablet! Im on the verge of trading it in and going Apple! Someone please help...Keep me from turning to Apple!
Is there a fix for this even if it requires manually adjusting chargers or the tablet itself (the internal components)?
thank you all for your help!
