When the phone is off and plugged into the wall, it charges. When the phone is on, and I plug it into the wall or computer, the phone doesn't know it's plugged in.
I ordered a brand new usb charging flex jack and replaced the old one, still the same problem. What gives?
EDIT: I am stock. Not rooted.
Does this happen on the original cable also?
Have you tried wiping?
Is Fast Charge on?
Fk. It doesn't even charge from the wall! When the phone is off, it has the animation that says it's charging when i plug it in the wall. I left it plugged into the wall overnight. This morning I took a look at the phone, and it didn't charge!
Oh noez, what should i do?
Also, I don't have the original cable. I'm using an HTC one.
EDIT: Dafuq?! I found an LG charger. Apparently the phone knows that it's charging when I charge with that. The thing is, that charger is just a charger; it's not a usb cable+ an adaptor. So I can't use it for adb and such.

You should mention what ROM you're on (and version) so that no one else makes the same mistake I did in assuming you had a custom ROM and that Fast Charge is on. It's a feature that makes sure that whatever charges it is recognised as AC 1amp charger as some chargers aren't designed well enough (I believe it involves a single solder point) to report themselves as capable of 1A. If it doesn't report as AC to Android, it will charge at 500mA instead (it assumes USB power). It sometimes causes problems with connecting to PC via USB.
Get another USB cable, this time none of that fancy **** go straight to OE Samsung or something.
=O I thot all usb cables are made equal! So I can't use an HTC usb cable? The dude didn't sell me the phone with a cable T.T
Also, I'm stock. I am not even rooted.
My nexus just started acting stupid when I plug it in also.
Mine sat in a drawer for a few weeks and when I plugged it in to charge, it wouldn't.
What I did was this.
plug device into charger
remove battery for a few seconds
replace battery
press power button
phone powered up and began charging.
Even now, it still sometimes doesn't recognize the charger and I have to unplug and plug it in until it does.
I use a rocketfish cable.

Some devices are picky, you'd think that all USB cables are made equal (I did too) but some just don't work well with certain devices. I've had printers th... wait printers always have **** problems... I've had uh... usb extensions not work well with some Wifi dongles and such. My old milestone didn't like the Samsung cable either (yet the Moto cable works perfectly on gnex)
=O. Then it has to be the usb cable! No way it's not!
I ordered one on ebay =D
Rooted Gnex here I come!

Thank you dmappdev,
I followed your procedure (feel like talking about surgery here, which isn't too far from topic); I'm convinced that it helped in some way, directly or indirectly... as at first, my Galaxy S Advance still wouldn't recognize/charge my phone with:
1. its own charger,
2. my old Galaxy Ace's charger,
3. a universal wall usb plug used with the S Advanced own USB-to-USBmini cable.
My last idea was to use, quote: an old Nokia USB cable connected to my PC... and that worked.
I was much too happy my phone had remembered how to charge to stay mad... But I still tried those three means for charging again, and only the phone's original charger worked now. So the phone's charging ability has been "awakened" in some way, but only for the original charger ...technology is improving, but not the ethics on making life easier for the consumer.
All this was yesterday. This morning (there's more, yes), I saw my phone indicating a 100% charge although it had been disconnected from charge for several hours - something that had already happened once yesterday, before the unable-to-charge situation; a simple reboot took care of the problem, the battery status now showing a more realistic 53%.
Any comments to any of the above? If not, thanks again for your tip anyway !!!
Hi Guys,
I'm just wondering if my unit is defective or it's really the case for Galaxy Note 8's. My tablet charges just fine when using the wall charger, but when I connect it to my PC, it won't charge at all. I've tried different cables that I use for my phone and other gadgets, but none of them will work.
Is there a way for me to make it charge via USB?

Mine also says not charging when its plugged to the PC, its because the USB ports supposedly don't give enought current to charge the tablet, but i once left it connected overnight while transfering my MP3 collection and in the morning the tablet was 100% charged, so i think even if it says is not charging, it charges but ultra slow, even slower than a cell phone.
USB ports on a PC does not put out enough voltage to charge the tab. Like said above, if it does, it will take forever. Look on the back of your wall charger. It should say 10v. USB ports typically put out only 5v. If you look on the back of a phone charger, it should be 5v.

It's not the volts, it's the amps. Your charger provides 2A. A typical USB port provides 0.5A. But in any case, you'll not be able to charge this device from a computer USB port. It's not a fault in the device.
That explains it then. Thanks guys
Hmmm... I alway charge my note 8.0 thru my pc usb.
It charges on my pc and lap top.
If you want to be sure just let is sit for an hour and see if the % went up.
Doesnt charge fast but charges in an evening from 60 to 100%
Perhaps it doesn't charge while the screen is on, because the power drain exceeds the charge rate? There would be no way to see it change to "charging" because the screen must be off for that to happen... Just some speculation

I have a HP Envy M6 laptop that I use to charge my Note 8. It only charges on the port closest to the battery. The only USB 2.0 port out of 3 other USB 3.0 ports which is odd because they say USB 3.0 ports give out more power.
I have tried charging it with another HP laptop that has the same USB setup but it doesnt charge in any one of the ports, 2.0 or 3.0.
I guess it just depends on the PC you're charging it with.
Can charge.
hi,
We can charge note 8, if the note is switched off and connected to a PCvia USB
Normally Note 8.0 can not charge with pc usb port or car usb port because AC current of them too low only 0.5A (minimum AC current of charging require should be 1A)
Samsung Tablet stock charger is 2.1A (Note 8.0 device allows 1.8A)
Hi
I have the Tab Pro 8.4 since yesterday.
Today i noticed that charging over USB is not working. I get a red cross in the Battery Symbol.
Anybody with the same Problem?
Hello.
If you mean charging by other charger than original, it's normal.
All Samsung Tab need original charger or compatible charger (mean mentioned "for Galaxy Tab").

no I mean charging on the USB Port with a normal Micro USB Cable. I have one here from a Galaxy S2 or S3 and with them it doesn't work.
It requires 2amps to charge while the screen is on. The other chargers are probably only providing 1amp so while screen is on it is not charging.

once again, i dont use the charger, it is connected to the USB Port from my Computer!!!! Normaly a Device like the Nexus 7 is charging wenn connected over USB, the Tab Pro 8.4 not.
Then it is the same issue.
A computers USB ports only output 500ma for usb 2.0 devices unless the machine has a piece of software designed to tell it to send more over the port.
It is still not the 2 amps required to charge the device while the screen is on, it should still slowly charge with the screen off.
The nexus 7 probably has a lower power draw allowing it to charge at 500ma with the screen on.

It's what i mean.
You cannot use another charger or computer USB port than original or compatible for recharge Galaxy Tab.
It's not a question of intensity ,Galaxy Tab wait for signal on +-DATA pin .
Original charger has 2 resistors between +-DATA for be recognized by Galaxy Tab.
You can use a special USB dongle for recharge at any USB port http://dx.com/p/usb-charging-adapter-for-samsung-galaxy-tab-black-151322

Since most third party chargers don't work anymore with the KitKat update, did anyone try an external battery?
All chargers works, just depends on cable and not chargers or kitkat. You get faster(slwoer charging depends on charger and quality of the cable.
For u question, I used Trent 11000 mah external battery pack, 5V 1Amp and with 3rd part usb cable, that are only for charging, without "data pins". It charging at 500 mah when screen is on, screen off at 930-980 mah and working as normal.
I dont know where u get that kitkat have anything to do with 3rd part chargers doesnt works.

Well my third party chargers stop charging when the screen turns off. Even if I use the USB cable that came with the Note. However, old chargers of HTC or Motorola phones do work with any USB cable. And I have read this from several other users as well.
I'm on stock 4.4.2 with stock recovery. What recovery/kernel/ROM do you use?
I only use third party chargers and cables and have never had a problem.

The problem is Samsungs OEMs usb cable. I found it kinda weird, probably Samsungs have some kinda "handshake" with data pins and I got few of them from old Note 1/2/2014 and somehow it doesnt charge mine old Note 2 anylonger.
I got 4 of Samsunsg OEMs USB cables that comes along with Note 1/2/2014/EED100 (Desktop chagerstand) and I dont know anylonger which one is for each device. If I use wrong Samsungs usb cable, it charge mine Note 2 very slow, battery also drops while charging and I got to pick right usb cable for it to charge normal.
Now I just use this usb cable to charge mine Note 2014, too lazy to swap cable until find correct one and it works fine with any charger.

I tried using the Note charger with different USB cables and it works. Using third party chargers with Note cable does not work, but using HTC/Motorola chargers with any cable does. So I think the problem is with the charger, not the cable. Are you sure you used the Note charger with diferent cables and it didn't work?
Using a 1.0A charger charges the device obviuosly slower but the third party chargers (also 1.0A) stop when the screen is off or the device is powered down.

Alright, I'm now officially out of ideas why this only affects some devices. Would you mind telling me what model you have?

Might be it's a bug in the 605 ROM/kernel. Or maybe related to the snapdragon 800 chip. Maybe Samsung screwed up some drivers, intentionally or not.
If anyone is having charge issues, change your cables. There's nothing special about a "Samsung" cable, but there's a lot of cheap cables out there that have enough voltage drop on them that they won't allow adequate charging. Also, make sure your charger is doing "AC" charging, not "USB" charging- the Note won't draw more than 500mA from USB charging and you may either experience slow charging or none at all if you're using it.
I'm running a P607T (US T-Mobile) model with the German P605 ROM (which should rule out "locale" differences), and my Note charges from any third-party charger I have and/or my Gorilla Gadgets charger battery just fine, whether screen is on or off.
Like I said before, my third party charger stops charging when the screen turns off, even if I use the cable that came with the Note. In settings under battery it says "charging - AC" but still.
It may very well be that these chargers are too "cheap".
The Samsung cable misses one of the two ground connectors. This method was used for devices with mini (!) usb to put them either in power or data transfer mode, depending on the cable used.
However, the Note don't care, I charge it with a 5pin-cable.
The charger should be fully Android - and Apple compatible, as the Note most likely checks for Ipad-compatible signals on the data lines for 2A support.
The USB Port of the P600 is really weird.....I`m searching a long time for a solution to use USB and charging at the same time, and I`m testing a lot of dockingg Stations for this.....thats really strange.....the Multimedia Dock, made for the Note 2, works with the Note 3, without Problems, alll Ports are working....but P600 doesnt accept it as any docking stations, it do absolutely NOTHING, if you put it in.....with the new desktop dock (without usb) both devices will accept it as an "Docking Station"...other Adapters, like Hama, with SD Card Reader, USB and micro USB, will accept as an USB connector, all works, but not charging......but now, the LAN to USB Adapter from Samsung for the PRO Tab Series, wich have 2 x USB, LAN and Charging Inputs, works fine, except the LAN Port......think, there no drivers there at P600.....The USB Port is not same pinned as the Note 3, and also not same as the Note 10.1 and other older Tabs.......maybe it`s same pinned as the PRO Series.....but not sure......

My sgt 3 wont turn on. haven't used it about like 2 months, so It has been completly shut down, now when Im trying to charge it it says, "Voltage to low, need to be above 3.4v" And Im charing with an iPad adapter, which should be fine, right? I dont have the original charger.
Actually I dont know what rom I even use, think it was CAGROM, not sure. How do I start it up? Cant get to recovery even..
Do you have another Samsung device? Or any recent device. While it may seem like the USB chargers would all have the same voltage, they do not. I have plugged my Galaxy S5 into the port on a Charger delivered with an iPhone 5s and it charged much more slowly.
I suggest trying a different USB adapter. If it still does not charge you may have to open the Tab unplug and re attach the battery cable.

Yes I've but that is for a Nexus 5 (LG original), and the adapter is pretty small, dont think it's 3.4v in that one. I've tried diffrent cables, and that didnt help.

agdi,
you can try plugging you tab to a powered usb port on your pc.
leave it sit overnight, if you can power it on come morning,
turn off wifi, mute sound, disable location/sync and drop you screen brightness as low as it will go,
then suspend your tab and leave it connected to suck up more of a charge.
your charger needs to be
input 100-240V~ 50-60Hz 0.35A
output 5.3V===2.0A
