Has anyone had any instances where your phone is restarted and once it's finished you notice any missing icons? It does it to me all the time and idk what it could be. Any ideas?

it would be helpful if you told us:
-which icons?
-from where? (homescreen? app drawer?)
-is it always the same icons?
i've never seen this on mine
its a touchwiz problem ..... gotta erase data on touchwiz and restart it

I've had this happen on a couple of occasions. Various icons on home screens and app drawer disappear but their titles remain. If you select the missing icon area the app still opens. I have an application, System Panel Task Manager, I use for system monitoring, app backup, etc. I just hit "end all" in the task manager which restarts TouchWiz and the icons are back. I didn't have to erase data to get the icons back. (Wouldn't want to set up my home screens again) Not sure why they disappeared, but it hasn't happened again in a while.

I don't know if this is the same thing but I having a similar problem I am on T-Mobile and I am rooted and I thought root was causing this or the stock ROM I was on
but I would reboot the phone with an app like Quick Boot or C Boot (I think it was called) and all my apps would be out of their folders but the folders still remained
But if I rebooted by the device power menu the apps will stay in their folder
So like now if I wanna get to recovery from an app I would make sure to “save” my setup with the device menu first then reboot with an app...

I'll try this because it's happened to me numerous times and I have to restart the phone. Thanks for the help sir!

Yea happened to me too. A few times an icon will not show up like in TouchWiz. Doesn't happen if I use another launcher. So like someone suggested restarting TouchWiz usually fixes it.

Yep. Happened to me once. Reboot didn't fix it. I ended up going into recovery and wiping the cache to fix it.

My alarm app randomly stopped working earlier. Found fix for the alarm issue that worked at least on my rooted phone. Went into titanium backup (free version), found the app "[ALARMS] clock..." and pressed it. I selected defrost and voila, the clock app was back in the app drawer, for now at least. Don't know why the app froze itself.

You had me excited until I realized this solution requires root... I'm still alarm-less.

Uh no.
Clock App is missing. That means the widget doesn't work as it once did. No app, nothing for the widget to call.
Look at ALL the other posts around the forums from people with same issue.
Even the phone has the clock app grayed out in the all apps list and is listed as 0 bytes. HTC has acknowledged the problem. So it is a biggie indeed. Glad it works for you however, but mine and many others do not.

No need for the attitude, I was unaware it was this type of issue, I thought it was just the app not showing up in the app drawer. Are you not rooted?

Attitude was only in response to your shrugging off my problem as user error. I've been banging my head against the wall with this issue for the last week. Even more infuriating is that I took the time to do a factory reset and that was not a permanent solution.
Anyway, no I am not rootedand I'm not going that direction either as I am a corporate user and need to keep the phone stock.

Well all I can do is laugh then. I didn't take your clock away, I didn't tell you to do a factory reset. Like I said, I mistook it as a different situation. My clock app doesn't show up in GB either, but the app still worked, so actually I was trying to help and you be a ****. So Cheers!

The clock app goes away completely for most. Widget doesn't respond and no app in the drawer. If you go into applications in settings it is grayed out. If you had an alarm set before the app disappearing, it goes off as scheduled repeatedly with no way to access the app to change it.
However using my method stated in op fixes this issue for me at least. It does require root though.

See I just thought it was the literal clock widget missing from the app drawer, but the clock still worked.. cos that's what happened to me in GB, the clock works fine alarms and all but no app in app drawer, only way to access it is by clicking the clock on the home screen weather widget.
did you by chance delete the htclockscreen.apk? this has been known in the past to not be able to turn off the alarm. but I could be way off.

No, just running a rooted version of the stock rom with some bloat removed. The problem with the alarm clock is present in the official ota Rom though. For some reason, the clock app freezes itself and I just unfroze it.

Is there a way to close apps using the "other apps" area, ie when you hooks down the home button and see list of recent apps, Swype left or right to remove from list, but this doesn't close them. Is there a way so that it will close the apps?

Task Manager
or
Giving phone a mini-bath
Yeah use task manager
I just want to be able to Swipe then away like it has without without having to go to another screen. For example (sorry to use this as an example) on iOS a user can double tap the home button to see all running apps and can close the apps right there. I want to be able to do the same thing with the system we have.

Can I ask why? Android handles task/memory management without your intervention. The only time you should have to manually close an app is if it stops responding.
swiping from the recent list does close them...
Yes, this is correct, swiping from the recent list does NOT close any apps, it just clears them from the list.
If you wanted to force close an app click the task manager button, then click exit or exit all on the Active Applications tab.
Wrong..... It does close them. End of discussion. Look at your task manager then do the screen wipe and clear all tasks... Check task manager again... All gone.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
It does close them but beware, unless the application is ACTIVELY running in the background closing applications will do nothing but free a little RAM (which you have plenty of) and will decrease battery life if you restart the applications at a later time.
Right now I have 26 Apps "open" and have no slow down. All in all I suggest you leave them be.

After a reboot, I got this screen that seems rather persistent and no way to close it. It goes away only on Settings Menu or in any app. But, it stays on Home screen and apps drawer etc.
any idea on how to get rid of this?
Ive had that happen. Think I had to clear data on factorytest or one of those apps.

Hi guys. I'm on Cleanrom 4.7.0 and Nova Prime. 2 problems: Every once in a while my task manager won't function. I'll long press home and it will give me Haptic feedback but nothing will show up. Occasionally (I've only noticed this happen while I'm inside an app) the task manager will appear for a split second and then disappear. This is fixed by a restart but it's getting really annoying as it happens quite often.
Second problem: my Wifi and mobile hot spot toggles (top row in notification dropdown) will stop being clickable (I can neither turn them off or on.) I can long press them to enter their settings and turn each one on from there, but the toggles themselves don't work. This also fixes itself via restart.
Anybody have any ideas?
have you tried fixing permissions Or wiping dalvik cache?

Haven't tried that, no. I know how to wipe the delvik cache but how do you fix permissions? Is that also in recovery?

I've noticed that task manager doesn't lways work great in certain apps.. I just click the home button, long press the home button to bring up task manager and delete the unwanted apps, then reopen the app you were in. The process takes literally 2 seconds.

When it stops working it doesn't matter if I'm in an app or not. I've gone to the application manager and closed all apps then tried again, still nothing on the long press. I'm hoping that wiping the cache and fixing permissions did the trick

Works fine for me. Settings > Lock Screen > Wallpaper > Gallery
or gallery -> choose image -> menu -> set image as -> lock screen wallpaper
what things have u tried so we can skip past any steps u have already done
I know how to do it, it just won't change. I have tried both settings then lockscreen settings and the gallery select picture and set as routes. I have cleared app data as well. I uninstalled quick pic so the only thing to manage pictures is gallery. I even tried removing nova launcher.
Sent from my LG-E980 using xda app-developers app
The only thing it well let me do is use the stock wallpapers
Sent from my LG-E980 using xda app-developers app
so the option is there in the gallery app to use a pic as a lock screen but it just doesnt apply it? u do a battery pull since u removed quickpic? is it only ur lockscreen u cant change or is even ur home screen wallpaper too?
Yeah...option is there, just not applying. It lets me change home wallpaper, no problem. Didn't do a battery pull....Just a reboot. Is there a difference?
I'm also going to try wiping my cache in CWM now that I'm thinking about it.
*update* I have done all of the above...still no luck. It pops up with a message stating "wallpaper has changed" and everything. I'm honestly at a loss
Sent from my LG-E980 using xda app-developers app
maybe a conflict with quickpic or nova or some other mod/tweak...fastest solution i would say is make sure everything is backed up and wipe it and start over. maybe install apps one at a time checking that the lock screen works each time to try to pinpoint the app that caused the conflict
That was my next step...was hoping there was a simpler solution
Sent from my LG-E980 using xda app-developers app
Well the wipe worked. Not sure what was causing the conflict as all apps are now restored. Thanks for the suggestions!
