I don't want to be negative, but I've used android since 1.5 and had AT&T since then. In that time I've had a few phones with locked bootloaders and I've seen quite a few petitions to unlock it and I've never seen anyone successfully get them unlocked from AT&T, it's always been boot strapped or some other method for bypassing it. Not saying don't try, but don't seriously get your hopes up. Also even if you got everyone on XDA with an AT&T Note 4 to sign it's probably less than 1% of their sales of the Note 4.

Last I checked the reason for mentioning the Motorola atrix 4g was because att released the ability to unlock it, if I'm not mistaken.

In the hopes that we may as a whole have a louder voice that AT&T will hear... I have created an online petition for this. Please show your support and sign it. Tell your friends, your family, etc. This has come about by way of suggestion from FXP.
Please note, that if you decide to sign the petition, this is a LEGIT cause, and to please sign as yourself, not your online alias.

Seeing as the Boot lock really looks to be in full control from Sony I would suggest trying to get them to hear you. At some point there agreement with ATT will end and this device will be dropped as the new ones come in very soon. So maybe just maybe Sony will listen and help us out.
^if u read through some of the other threads about sim unlock and what not. an ATT rep specifically told someone it was only the first 90 days... their exclusivity clause whatever.... in other words we should be allowed both sim unlock and bootloader unlock via ATT now. granted i see your point about Sony being in control of it. but, that doesn't make sense when they've got the SXS unlocked and getting AOSP love.... >_<

I signed although I feel it will do nothing it will be worth the effort. I believe this is a control set by att as sony allows the bootloader unlocked on lt28i/lt28h.

I disagree with this... i have been trying to get the unlock code from att for my ion and they do not have it or have a release date for. i have been with them ten years and never asked for a unlock for any of my devices. i left for japan three days ago in hopes that i could take my ion with me and use it on docomo network so i didnt have to buy another phone while here. and att told me they would have my issue resolved long after i arrived, so thanks to att i had to buy another phone upon arrival.
i would have had a better chance at unlocking an iphone 5 before i left, than unlocking my ion
Plus one for me. Rogers canada locks there boot loaders as well.

We did the same for my wife's White SGS3. She really wanted the iphone 5 (tried to talk sense into her but it was of no use...die hard icrap user). So the deal was if she could sell the SGS3 for enough to get the iphone she could. She called, got the unlock code, went to tmobile and borrowed a micro-sim and finished the unlock. I then rooted it, installed SU and Busybox...then we sold it on ebay for almost $700. So now she has an iphone.
Just call ATT and get the code. If they start to give you trouble just tell them you'll be going out of country to Canada for a while as part of your job and want to take your phone and not the crappy business phone most of the time they'll just give it to you along with instructions. If not, call back in a few minutes and get someone different.

Damn. You might wanna log back online again & talk to a different rep. The person that gave me mine didn't ask any questions & even told me that Samsung supplies the unlock codes for all of their devices as soon as you buy it. If I were you, I would try again. You'll eventually get a cool rep that will give it to you.

indeed, just about to update that the int'l care rep gave me a 8-digit code, saying that if I get a foreign micro sim, the device will ask for it and be ready to go. (hopefully no glitches in there..)
Or you could of just searched around here and you would have found the free way to unlock it without having to waste time online. Check this

Apparently its going to be illegal to unlock your cellphone if you purchase it from a carrier instead of outright buying an unlocked phone.
http://consumerist.com/2013/01/25/a...roviders-permission-to-unlock-new-cellphones/
I think we should all sign this petition
Webstas, none of my post below is directed at you. I can see how it would come off that way. That is not my intention at all.
Let's read a bit more into this. It is NOT going to be illegal for you to unlock your phone. It WILL be if you do it without the permission of your carrier. That means that T-Mobile and AT&T will have to do it for you. For Verizon (and Maybe Sprint but not sure), there is an FCC requirement that any devices utilizing 700MHz for LTE cannot be locked.
In your link, it states:
So what that all means is that, if you have a cellphone right now, you can still unlock it at your leisure and not be breaking the law. But any phone purchased after tomorrow will need to be done so with the permission of your wireless carrier.

Then there is this from Cnet:
Starting this Saturday, it becomes illegal in this great land to unlock a new smartphone without the permission of the carrier that locked it in the first place.

Legacy phones seem to be exempt to this policy for good reason.
Enforceability? I highly doubt you'll get a jail sentence for going to a 3rd party to unlock your phone. Maybe a small $20 penalization on your bill. But really, how could they enforce that? Are the big 4 going to run some algorithm that will scan all of their customers IMEI numbers and ping the mothership when the come across someone that used a hack or 3rd party? I doubt it.
Not saying that there isn't cause for concern at BigBrother again dipping his hand in the cookie jar. But let's not get the pitchforks and torches just yet. Petitions are great ways for people to voice their opinions and great things can happen because of them (ala Change.org and the Verizon $2 "convenience" fee), but they need to be worded correctly and not some rant like many become.
My work filter won't let me look at the petition that you linked, so I am not sure what it says. I work for lawyers, so I tend to think the way they do.
Its true...better get your new phones NOW before this is enacted across the board.
http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105...king-of-smartphones-becomes-illegal-saturday/
Plus, T-Mobile makes it pretty easy to request an unlock anyways. For customers on a monthly plan:
- your T-Mobile account is in good standing;
- you have a minimum of 40 consecutive days of active service with T-Mobile;
- you did not request an unlock code in the last 90 days (except in connection with a device exchange or upgrade);
- the device has not been reported as lost or stolen;
- T-Mobile has verified usage of the IMEI applicable to the device; and
the device has been completely paid for.
I just requested the unlock code for my old G2 and got it in about 2 weeks.
I only bought unlocked phones in the past. But since there is only one carrier I intend to do business with, an unlocked or locked T-Mobile phone won't matter to me.
Would this be true for contract bought phones? Or even phones bought without contracts?

After I heard about this a couple of days ago and I was driving home from work sort of zoning out and I wondered :
Could websites like this one get into some sort of legal trouble? I'm sure that I am way over thinking this, but a lot of websites specifically show step by step instructions on how to ROOT almost every phone known to man. But then I thought to myself.... Just because something may be against the law, doesn't mean that you can't talk about it or have instructions on how to do such a thing. Okay, now I'm questioning myself after that description. What do you guys think? Will this have any effect on us going into the future?

...from what I've read this only affects people who make and use tools to unlock their phones for free without contacting apple/the carrier like the one for the iPhone.
Its my understanding that websites that offer unlock codes for a fee (or just imei unlock in the case of an iPhone) are still going to be legal.

T-Mobile will fight this full force. Their newest game plan is to have AT&T customers bring their unlocked phone over to them for use on the T-Mobile network.
As for us current T-Mobile customers, all you have to do is simply call them up and tell them that you are going out of the country for a while. They will give you the unlock code for free within a couple days. T-Mobile is really good about unlocking. Honestly we, as T-Mobile customers, have nothing to worry about with this matter.
(Though I do still agree that this is a total BS law which should be overturned).

#1. Why did you try 6 times if it didn't work after the third time?
#2. Are you sure you have the correct code from THEM???
If it's not working then it seems that it's the incorrect code!
I would contact AT&T again, if that's where you got your code from!
Which would have been sent to you in an e-mail. Because I have done it myself, but not for this device...
#3. Before trying again MAKE sure you have the CORRECT code!!!

I've called them multiple times, spoke to 2 tiers of technical support. got sent to a corporate store just to be turned away at the door because they can't unlock phones. so why was I sent there? Who knows. at&t is no help. I don't know what else to do. I already switched my number to tmobile. it's been over a week and I already got my first bill for a phone I can't even use. To use the unlock code, T-Mobile Sim is in the phone, boot it up, a menu asking for unlock code, type code, after a few seconds a message verifying network unlock replaces the code box. It's immediate, because the unlock code is stored in the phone.
You should verify the IEMI number under the battery -- that's what they need to retrieve the code from their database.
I vote for bad code or bad typing. Is there any way to backtrack your customer service efforts and get at&t to recheck their work?
I would

AT&T sickens me! Not only have they butchered this phone and delayed updates but their latest stunt is unforgivable. I got a text saying as a note 4 owner I would be eligible for a free gift. Apparently if you put the code into the mobility website you can get a free t-shirt that says "If I was with Verizon I'd have Root by now!". How low can they sink?
