Just stumbled across something in which I thought I would share....I looked into the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 forum, specifically in the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 Original Android Development, and noticed there is a build available of Cyanogenmod 12 using Lollipop 5.0!! The topic is labeled "Cyanogenmod 12." Since AT&T SG3 Roms work on our T999 phones, I thought I'd give it a shot. It works like butter! The build available is build #4, and it is pretty stable for being in the alpha stages. Only problem is that the stock camera doesn't work properly, but if you download the Nexus Camera from the play store, that one works just fine. Just make sure to download the CM12 build, the gapps, and the SuperSU flashable zip, and you'll be in business. The root in the build itself doesn't work properly, which is why the SuperSU flash is needed. Flash the build, then flash the gapps, then flash the SuperSU. It takes some time for it to boot, took me around 8-9 minutes, and some have reported having to pull the battery once, but it does boot up and works. You may notice an error while flashing that says something about /data locked or busy, but that doesn't stop the flash, and it still works just fine, so don't worry about that error. Make sure to Nandroid first before flashing....always Nandroid....but there you go. Everyone have fun!!!!
I downloaded but installation aborted stating error as Rom is for ATT, lte and this device is tmo hence operation aborted
I am on latest bootloader and modem for t-999
Any advice
change the updater script to include your device/model (?)
"all i can really do , is stay out of my own way and let the will of heaven be done"
I used the download as is, and just flashed it without changing anything and it worked for me. I am using Philz touch recovery, latest version. It only gave a /data error but kept flashing after. Then flashed the gapps and the supersu and it booted up for me just fine. WiFi works, GPS works, calls work, the only thing not working is the camera and screenshots.

I'm at Cyanogenmod's website, all I see is version 11..
Please post the link..
It's a port so you won't find it on cyanogenmod website... My description says where to find it and what the thread is named... Please read it. Lol. And my signature says I'm using an i747 but I'm on a t999l. The port labels my phone as an i747 but works just fine. Lol

my bad, thinking of editing bootloader version ; not carrier.
good catch. thanks.

(removed). Using two 2.8 I am unable to flash said rom with the same error everytime
This does work on t999. I'm using it now. Check out the q&a thread where I posted this as well and others are using it and loving it. All i747 ROMs can be flashed on t999 phones as long as it doesn't contain radios or i747 specific hardware elements. The ROMs are just the software and are compatible. Don't know about t999v but t999 and t999l can use this ROM. I'm on the build 5 and it works great. No fc and only issues are camera not working, just get the nexus camera from play store it works, and a little lag on app choice screens but that is tolerable.

are you sure it stuck when you rezipped? myself have had to use different editor to get changes to stick. just my experience.
personally i use total commander and works well.

Thanks for the help. I got it working.
This liquid smooth, it would be good if someone could post this on the t999l forum, or a good [TUT] about phone we can crossflash, I honestly thought all development was dead on the t999l and had almost given up all hope of seeing 5.0 on my phone. Thank you for posting, this probably saved me the $800 dollars i would have spent on an iPhone! :good:

We now have working exploit for out Canadian friends .
We are publicly releasing Bells, Rogers and Telus. This is the same 0.5v that removes LG Security.
Further details can be read in thecubed's post here.
Due to the nature of the varients make sure you download the correct file!
Bell:

Rogers:

Telus:

Currently, the download is Windows-only. I will make a OSX/Linux/Windows version soon
Also Bell, Telus and Rogers are now supported by the 1 click freegee app! This is $1, and the pc method will always remain free. This is just for those lazy and want to donate .

Worked perfectly! Thanks again to Team Codefire for high levels of awesomeness.
Now bring on the roms! lol
Thank you! :highfive:
EDIT: I'm wondering if someone made this flashable, we (bell, rogers) would be able to flash the BASE ROM from the att forum and then flash this since at this time we don't have a rom that's flashable yet..

If it disables LG Security does that mean we can safely uninstall google apps like movies and books?
Im just trying to make sure I have all my ducks in a row here, so I appologize if this is a redundant question. Which recovery are we supposed to use?? In the Sprint development forum there is a tethered version of CMW. Do we use that?? Or, is there something included in the FreeGee exploit? Or even still, do we just use the stock recovery?

Freegee includes CWM. Once it's done you can boot into the bootloader and get to cwm, or use adb and reboot into recovery that way (easier, because we can't see what we're selecting in the bootloader at the moment, vol down twice then power gets you there )
Just so I am clear you arent able to see the fastboot options because of LG's doing right? Not because of the exploit made here? Or was it because of the exploit and that was just an unfortunate side effect of doing it this way that would be fixable in a future update?

Welcome to android. Definitely got a good device for first android experience. Well now since you are rooted you will have to flash a custom recovery. You can download the goo.im app from the play store to get cwm recovery. That way you can flash anything to any partition within the phone. Now is that kernel for the t mobile s3? If its not, then I don't recommend flashing. Just flash what you find here. Ktoonsez makes great kernels. There are also stock over clocked ones and others as well. Once you have cwm OK installed then go ahead and download the kernel using your phone's browser. Then to boot into custom recovery, power off the device and when powering it back on press and hold the power and the volume down button. When the device vibrates once, you can then let go and and from there cwm should work and then flash file from .zip and look for your downloaded kernel and flash it

Do not flash anything to your phone that didn't come from this forum (TMo S3). In other words, don't flash that kernel you were talking about. There are certain exceptions, but just follow this rule: do not flash anything to your phone that didn't come from this forum (TMo S3).
you used http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238 this to root your phone? - that thread is for international S3 version

Yes. My M919V from Wind (using it on Virgin) got an update this morning. MDC to MDJ now. The firmwares posted on samfirmware are the newer ones that includes today's 18 Mb update.
I didn't notice any difference as of yet. The description only read "Stability Improvements".
Me too I got update on videtron .

Is there any root for our version?
I had my S4 crash on me once so I'm assuming the update fixed that. I'm not sure what caused the crash but it reminded me of the crashes I'd get with AOSP roms on my S3 which shocked me. So far no crash though. TBF, I think that the roots for the TMO work for us as well, however I haven't tried yet either as I'm also waiting for confirmation hehe. :good:
BTW has anyone gotten the unlock for the M919's to work on M919V's? When I dial the code in, it doesnt want to accept it.

I suppose I'll get things rolling a little bit.
1) Root
The motochopper method works. Tested it myself. Even on the newest M919VVLUAMDJ.

2) Sim Unlock
Again tested by me, works flawlessly even after flashing stock rom again.

3) Recovery
Not tested by me, but others have had success installing TWRP.
Link here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2263947
4) Stock
I flashed stock ROM with Odin after rooting to return back to stock. Everything is just how it is supposed to be.
Let's get going!
Thanks dj_aj, for root we don't need to go back to old firmware ?
I can confirmed I followed yesterday the method posted in the main Galaxy S4 Genreal forum(not T-mobile one) by looking at your links it look like same steps, and my videotron is unlocked I tried Telus sim of a friend it is working http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2282683
For me the only important reason why I want to root and install a custom ROM is to have Pdroid as Apps now days ask for crazy permissions and I want to block that. Is there any Stock Base ROM that include Pdroid or OpenPdroid ? Because otherwise my phone is ultra fast and smooth no need of crazy flashing like I use to do before with my LG lol

Could you elaborate on how much the battery life has really tanked? Is it down to just a few hours? And how less is it compared to the previous times?
I ask only because even though I initially thought that my battery was draining much quickly on this new firmware, it isn't really so. I'm getting about the same battery life.
Also, at this moment there is no way to downgrade to the previous firmware. The reason being the only stock firmware available to be flashed is the latest one.

You are welcome and no, I did not install any ROMs or custom recoveries. I like the stock touchwiz roms and generally only root to get rid of bloatware & do some minor tweaks.
I assume that all custom roms for the t-mobile sgh-m919 should work on our sgh-m919v variants. But, I have no expertise in this area & if anybody knows more can correct me.
I've updated the main post with links people have posted on here just for good reference. I hope that's okay with the original posters.
Just to confirm that i just rooted my videotron S4 with the link in OP . No need to roll back firmware worked perfectly with latest . Dont forget to turn on unlocked screen as you will be asked to allow root on your phone.

So I dont think its the firmware. Forgive the noobiness. Here's what happened: for two weeks since I bought the phone I have been following the same usage pattern every weekday - full charge with phone off at night, turn on at 8am, an hour of radio streaming and some browsing, gmail syncing sms and sporadic short browsing, repeat hour of streaming/browsing on commute home, some browsing on wifi in the evening. I have all smart features disabled and only syncing my gmail and calendar all in the effort to conserve bbattery.NEway this process would take my battery to about 20% by 11pm. Then last week for 2 consecutive days my battery life plummeted during the day to the point where it was 100% drained by 6pm. I didnt consider whether I had done anything differently on those days but now I know. I tried to send pictures through gmail over the network. With each pic weighing I at approx 3mb gmail was working to send them for hours while draining my battery. It just so happened that this took plafe the day after I installed the upgrade. Lesson here for me is wait for wifi to email pics taken by the fantastic camera on this phone.e
So my mother's non-rooted stock UVDMD5 S3 was sitting there and mobile background said update checker used 3 kb, so I checked the update checker and a 527.00 MB file started downloading. Just a heads up, is it the new download?

Edit 3 : This has KNOX. Proceed at caution.
Edit 4 : have you ever been to jail? No? Me either. But if I had to picture it this update is much like it. Still to Docs leak thread or AOSP but don't touch this with a fine toothcomb if you want to root and later downgrade.

So my mother's non-rooted stock UVDMD5 S3 was sitting there and mobile background said update checker used 3 kb, so I checked the update checker and a 527.00 MB file started downloading. Just a heads up, is it the new download?
Edit : still not downloaded yet. The download is slow I may not know what the update was until 4 PM because she's going to work right now.

Thanks! Proceed at your own risk, for I cannot be sure current method of root will continue to work on 4.3 ...

One way to find out, I suppose. I'm not currently rooted, the phone's bone-stock. Saw the download and immediately came here to see what was going on. Under 30 megs remaining.
check samfirmware...theres an update with over 800 mb
I guess that's a confirmation. Any issues? The AT&T version was riddled with problems.
Edit- Confirmed. Kernel version 3.0.31-1962493, Produced October 31.
According to Kies the update is MJC so its probably the same or similar to leak version DOC post .

Nice to see T-Mobile being the first to release 4.3. I will definitely check it out when I get home today.

So does this include the kernel that we were missing for 4.3?

Cool! I'd say something like, "Hopefully, we'll should see a rooted version soon...", but this is XDA where it's definitely possible.

anyone have any issues with the update? I saw on engadget that some other carriers pulled the update due to problems
Can someone upload a rooted Odin package, please!
If possible, if not without root.
Thanks

Ok, something important to be aware of. From piecing information together from users around these and other forums, it appears just about everyone who had problems with the 4.3 update had updated via OTA. So if you choose to update this way, please let us know how things go. But if you do experience problems, DONT PANIC, Grab Your Towel, and start downloading the Odin flashable full firmware update.
This of course will include the T-Mobile kernel. I am 90% certain that the reason WiFi did not work with the leaked kernel is because we did not flash the full firmware update. I believe the WiFi modules needed to be built into the bootloader (likely the aboot partition to be exact). This is what I was attempting to confirm when I bricked my phone. So by flashing the full firmware/OTA update, you should have a fully working build, including WiFi if I am correct.
Aside from this, I would suggest reading through some of my posts in the leaked Rom threads. This is the same build that was leaked to us a week or so ago. Do let me know how things are going, I wish I could join you guys in the discovery phase of this "official" version, but I seriously doubt that other than the kernel working, and Knox likely being left out, it will be any different from what we have been using.
I do not see any reason you should not be able to root, but I will get an insecure kernel posted asap. As soon as my download finishes. In the meantime, if anyone wants the insecure kernel from the leaked build, it should be exactly the same one. Download here:
UVUEMJC_Insecure_kernel.zip
Hope everything goes well, and I am still here to help!

a root66 version will be coming soon. These have always been released within a day of us getting a new official release. Please be patient though, as I don't think mrRobinson has the S3 anymore. I will send him the download link as soon as I have it posted on my AFH account.
If he cannot get to it, i will do my best to get you guys a root66 build asap. But again, please be patient.

You know, I have to be honest....I was hoping to be wrong about the latest leak becoming our official build! Was hoping they would update one more test build first, then we would have had another kernel/modem/build......oh well! I must say that I am quite surprised they went through with our release so quickly!
Someone must be watching us......
Thanks Doc, I'm in no rush.
Thanks for all your help, great appreciated.

oh, one more thing. if updating via ota, try Voodoo OTA Roitkeeper from the store. its worked in the past to preserve root.
and can someone pull the ota before applying it, and upload it for me please?
look in /data/fota, /data/temp, /cache/fota
its there somewhere, just cant remember for certain.

Where can you get an Odin package without root? My doesn't care about root but would still like an solid update incase the ota has bugs

I'm bone stock rooted and software update complained about software being modified. Can someone confirmed that the T999L AND T999 are being updated.
Found a post somewhere claimed Lollipop for T-999 from this forum. But the date was back to October. Neither I can find any sources on this forum. Is this a fake? Unfortunately, I am a newbie and cant post the link. But if you do a google search on "lollipop s3 t999a" and there is a website of upgrade-lollipop.org on about the third or fourth one there. Please some one check this out and tell me what this rom is.
I have been flashing the d2att CM12 builds and it's been fine. all you have to do is update a few things in the updater script and it will work fine. If you need instructions in how to do it I would be happy to help.
I'm using Liquidsmooth now and it runs great(minus video recording and screen casting).

I'd like some instructions. I'd imagine its an easy fix but I was hoping we would just get an already script updated rom in the development section

Thanks for the quick reply, bobthesalesclerk. Sorry I just came back. So the one in that post is not the CM12 you mentioned, but it claimed everything is smooth. But I noticed there are several posts on that exact the same even with three exact reply praising it - that's signs of fake.
So what is the bug in this CM12 built? What I really want is Sidesync 3.0 to go S3 with my Tab S, but I heard it's not working in this Lollipop for S3. Also, in most of looting to new built here using Samsung Galaxy S3 must be rooted, unlocked and installed with a recovery tool like TWRP or CWM. But this "fake" one just use a "nandroid backup" format. Now I am totally confused.
So anyone tried the new lollipop with Samsung sidesync 3.0 yet? and the result?
