Just curious (since I'm still waiting for the OTA to show up), does hitting the back button to close an app still make chrome pop up briefly before going back to the home screen? I used to only see the chrome pop up for some apps, but it has gotten to the point that almost everything does it now.
Never experienced that

Is there any way to navigate backwards in the browser when you just entered it from the homescreen. The back button simply kicks you out of the browser and puts you back on the homescreen.
No, when this happens you have to go through history. It is annoying but not half as annoying as not being able to return to a previous app after browsing for a while.
MS certainly need to do something about it - like long press back to skip this app's history. Also, the idea that when you launch an app from the start screen it should just restart instead of resuming (this is what IE demonstrates) is totally perverted without fast switching between apps. Wait till we get copy and paste - that's when the pain will come in.
i've also experienced some of the other screen issues that others have when the phone is charging, but i have noticed something more specific: w/o any other apps in the multi-task queue, i press vol-up to press play on my current song, and when the song comes on, my back button stops workin. actually all of the soft buttons do this, but after 10 or so seconds, home and search button come back, but back button still unresponsive. Sometimes happens when I have multiple apps going on as well. Kind of an annoyance.
i'm considering going back to the store to check my options, but (even though i don't think i'm qualified to make this distinction) it may be a software issue that may be updated with the connectivity issue on the 16th?

I can confirm this. It happened to me just today. I was using the "Sleep" app made by a buddy of mine. I played a sound from the app and then I hit the back button. It took me into the multitasking view. I literally could not exit the app unless I hit the home button. Afterwards, my back button stopped working but the home and search was still functional.
I let the phone sit for a while and everything started working again. I don't know if this will be addressed in the 16th update but I really hope so.
I also heard that a battery fix is coming as well.
One issue I have always had with Android is knowing whether or not pressing the back key will take you to a previous menu or close the program. Now that the back button is dynamic, would it be possible to create a mod where the back button turns into an "x" when it will close the program? I think this is something that should be part of ICS, but I also know that modders can do some incredible things.
I wouldn't get your hopes up. Every application is coded differently and it depends on the developer to what function the back button does. I think for this to work, hypothetically, you would need specially designed applications to include this feature.
You could have the button linked to environmental variable that always takes you back home, bypassing any specific app uses, however that would be redundant since you already have a home button. Other than that, I don't think there's another way to do it, definitely not dynamic since its up to the specific App. However, I remember on CM7, there was an option for SMS so that the back button always took you to the inbox, and not just quit, which I miss.
The application controls whether the back button moves you to a previous screen, home screen, or even exits the program.
Edit: Just noticed I repeated what everyone else said
If it were possible to mod Android so that the back button was unable to close apps, I would be very happy. Could this be done?

Don't think of the back button as closing the applications. Think of it more like the button triggering the app to close itself. It's an app specific issue, but not really an issue... Just use the home key!

Just an example using Google Music:
Listening to music, I want to go into the app using the widget or icon on a home screen. Sometimes it goes to the Now Playing screen, other times it will go to the Recent/Artist/Albums view. (Which is a whole 'nother issue I have with Android)
I don't wan't the back button to go back to the home screen, I want the back button to back within the app. If the system can be modded so that the back button never navigates to home, I think that would work for me.

Yeah I have noticed this with Google music. Hopefully Google will update this with a fix but understand it's not an 'android' issue its a apk issue.

Hope someone can help, I've searched but couldn't find the answer.
I have a really annoying problem in that if I lock my phone then unlock it, if i open an already open app, the bottom key bar (which contains the back key, home key and open apps key) is unresponsive apart from the home button. If I'm in messaging, the keyboard will be as well. If I press the back button for example, it shows it being pressed but does nothing. Sometimes the Google search thing pops up when you hold the home button. To remedy the only way is to press home then open again without locking the screen. Any ideas?
Ya samething happens to my phone also but not always. Wait buddy you will get more bugs like this its sony.
RichRoberts44, what is your FW? Do you have root? Did U unlock bootloader? More info is needed to even try to find a solution
This happens to me also from time to time and I don't even use the key bar, I use gestures with a 3rd party app. When this happens only home gesture works. It does happen rarely though.
The same problem began on my phone two weeks ago. Over the last two weeks, it increased. I had to restart my phone all the time. Besides the two issues you describe, I had two additional issues:
The clock on the lock screen didn't always appear when I managed to turn on the phone.
When I put the phone to sleep, I often couldn't turn it back on for several minutes.
Over the two weeks, all the problems occurred still more often. At the end, it was so annoying, that I backed up all my stuff and did a factory reset and recovered the backup. Now it is working perfectly again.
I run 14.4.A.0.157
are y0u r00ted 0r what?h0w ab0ut the running apps?is it t00 many?

Something peculiar happened to my LG G3 recently. It seems that Settings is permanently stuck open. I can see it when I press the recent apps button, but I cannot swipe it away. It doesn't go away...ever. Even after reboot. I've tried clearing the cache. Rebooting the phone. Going into apps and force closing settings. Nothing works. If I have other apps shown when I press the recent apps button, and I choose to "clear all", they will all close EXCEPT settings. Like I said, I can shut down phone, pull the battery, reboot the phone and upon a fresh boot, without having opened ANY apps, I'll push the recent apps button, and settings will show up and I cannot swipe it away. If I push the settings image, it takes me right to settings, as it normally should. But I can't clear it away.
This is driving me nuts. Has anyone seen this before? I've searched Google and can't find a single other occurrence of this behavior.
Oh, btw, I'm completely stock/unrooted and am using the latest update of Marshmallow.
Thanks,
Xphyle
