My friend just got the Note 4 coming from the iPhone 5 and cannot receive texts from other iPhone users. She says it's something to do with imessage. She's not a techie and I don't know anything about apple.
Can anybody shed some light on this? What's going on and how can she resolve it. Thanks.

Yeah its a known issue with switching from iphone ? to android Tech support should be able to help her they have to deactivate the imessage account all together

Thanks I will have her try that. :good:
Apple released a new app that fixes this problem.
Just follow this link. They need to deregister their number with iMessage. https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage
Verizon N4 : Thank me if I helped ya
Just another reason I hate Apple. Took me a full day of deactivating, deleting accounts, opening new accounts, etc before I was able to get texts from my daughters with their iphones when I tried the 5S. What a pina!!!!
Basically imessage hijacks your number and they don't care if you go back to android, not their problem. Only took years for them to evidently come up with a fix.

The issue is easy fix person with iPhone needs to go into setting and shut off imessage. As I phones have two methods of sending text. Message or imessage if you notice on the iPhone bubbles can be two different colors from sender.

Is this only working when everyone uses Windows Phones?
Tried it today and the conversations weren't threaded at all. It basically put my outgoing in one thread and replies from people all in their own threads. It was impossible to follow the conversation.
Has anyone tried it?
Yes it have it set to use MMS for group texting and all the devices I was texting were Android and iPhone devices.
Edit: and yea, I'm 100% sure it wasn't using different protocols for different people, since they were sitting next to me when I tested it...
Also, replies from others in the group were only coming to me, which made it impossible for anyone else to follow the conversation.

Did any of the iPhones have iMessage enabled? I know it reverts to SMS if the recipient does not support iMessage. I suspect for Group messaging, it will revert to MMS. I am wondering if there may be an issue if some are MMS and others are iMessage.
Also, with iPhone's the numbers of all recipients are visible to all recipients.
http://www.moxiemoshow.com/group-messaging-iphone/
When you sent messages to the group, were all numbers visible to all recipients?
I am wondering if Mango implemented group text messaging in a way that does not expose the numbers of all recipients. If the numbers for all recipients are not visible to all recipients, then Windows Phone 7 and the iPhone don't implement it the same. So, on one of your friends phones, check to see if all numbers are visible for messages you sent. Since their replies only went to you, I suspect they are not receiving the numbers of all recipients.
I don't know how Android implements Group messaging. Since you didn't say any of your friends had issues, I am guessing it is the same way the iPhone does it. This probably means that iMessage isn't a factor.
Unfortunately, I cannot test this because I ported the number for my LG Quantum to Google Voice to use on my iPhone that work pays for. At some point, I will be getting a prepaid SIM to put in my Quantum so that I can test things, but I have not done so yet.
All I could see on the vibrant was that I got a message from myself. Nothing about other numbers. Biggest reason I wanted to do this is so that I can cc myself in every thread I start, giving me the ability to respond transparently from any of my devices.
Was traveling for 12 hours and people got confused when I swapped devices (and.sometimes I plain.just don't feel like switching off what I'm using at that moment). Don't think I message was the issue, since the android phones aren't working either.
I knowbiys sending an mms cause.I can see the empty subject field on all of the devices.
Maybe it only works for instant.messages?
This keyboard has the worse Autocorrect ever.

There are lots of legitimate shortcomings of this wonderful platform, this is not one of them.
I mass-text enough. And I have never expected their responses to show up in the mass text field. How on earth would that be engineered?

Although i haven't used the group texting, i wouldn't expect it either to do what i think he is thinking it would do.
Windows Phone keeps history on all your contacts and what each contact has said under that contact. It's not a forum with all of your users joining a thread and posting for all to see. It would make sense that the response to your text came from just that person. It's not designed to let everyone see the response, only the response coming from that person to you. If it allowed more than it would be group instant messaging or group chat. That is not what it is.
Also... isn't what you are trying to do, what email is for? would make more sense.

Funny thing. The OP posted about this in another thread stating that Android doesn't support group messaging. Somehow it became a Windows Phone 7 issue.
In any case the mods removed that post for other reasons and disabled his account. I only saw the post in an email, because I get emails of all posts to the thread he posted in. When I actually went to the thread it was all cleaned up. Since this is the 2nd disabling in a short period of time, it may be permanent.
iPhone does implent group sms so that when iPhone users text each other using group SMS, it effectivey is like a chat room. Responses go to all recipients. All recipients receive the phone numbers of all recipients which allows reply to send responses to all recipients.
I am not sure if Windows Phone 7 group SMS does something similar to this when all phones are Windows Phone 7. To me this feature is primarly useful for event organizers, such as the captain of my softball team that sends things out to all of us, such as weather updates or asking if we know of anyone that can sub. Not as much for a big chat.
I don't have an active SIM for my LG Quantum, so I can't test it.
I have always thought of group texting as more of a way to send for example a merry xmas to all your friends (like 80 or so) in one clip. You don't want all your friends getting all 80 responses (that may kill someones text plan if they have limited)
Interesing that the iphone does that. you would think it wouldn't due to the above issue or to use a different transport.

On the iPhone,
It doesn't send 80 messages to each recipient. It just includes all 80 phone numbers with the message.
But, if they reply, it will reply to all 80.
Somehow the replies from iPhones doing this only count as 1 message though.

I think it is because group messing is actually MMS, not SMS.
This blog explains it well. http://shawnblanc.net/2010/12/iphone-group-messaging/
So, it uploads the message once.
Also, iPhone users have the free benefit of iMessage which gives unlimited messaging regardless of carrier between all iPhone OS 5 users. This also applies to iTouch and iPads.
So, on AT&T with my iPhone, I can message and iPhone on Verizon and Sprint for no charge. And to us it seems no different than SMS, except the background color is blue instead of green.
I turned group text off the minute I found out what it was I have a feeling most people don't know what they are actually doing when they use it. Whenever one goes out, I always end up with a bunch of unnecessary texts from people I don't even know.
Okay so I disabled iMessage on my iPhone before my M8 was even active, its been over a week now and I have turned off iMessage on literally all of my apple products and for some reason I still can't receive some texts from certain iPhone users. One day it'll work fine and then the next day I don't receive them. This is also happening with some group messages too. My brother who is an iPhone user could group text with my friends and I fine the other day, and all of a sudden today I can't receive any of his messages anymore. I've already spoke with Apple and had them manually deregister my phone # from iMessage and apparently that doesn't seem to be working fully either. Does anyone else have this same problem or something similar and if so how did you go about fixing it? Incredibly annoying. Never had this issue on my AT&T branded M7 with or without the AT&T stock ROM.
This is completely unrelated to your phone. This is all apples issue with imessage. The phone number doesn't deregister properly from Apple. Therefore some people iPhones still think you have one yourself. Don't blame your m8 blame crapple!

Same problem here. I called Apple and they said my number is not registered anymore and yet I still don't receive any texts from anyone with an iPhone. For sure on Apple's end.

My buddy had the exact same problem today.
He said he turned off iMessage in his phone before he deactivated his iPhone.
He also sent a text to 48369 with the word STOP (An alleged fix from Apple) and that didn't work either.
He called the 1-800 MY APPLE number and had them remove his phone number from the iMessage system and it started to work 30 minutes later.
Aplple just won't let me go. I recently switched back to Android (Should have never left!!!) and I'm still not recieving messages from iphones. This is mainly in the group messages. It's weird, because sometimes I do and other times I don't. The main problem seems to be getting pictures or links, but regular texts is a hit or miss. Again, this seems to be an issue in group messages, but I guess I wouldn't know If I am not getting some messages unless the person called me out for not responding. Yes, I have done the whole Apple website BS and had my phone # removed. Even when I did that it said that the number isn't registered with imessage. Anyone have any idea or suggestion? Thanks! Even with this issue I will not go back to Apple.

No the iPhone is long gone. I did everything that needed to be done before turning it in...
Ok ? I don't know then sorry usually you have to turn imessages off before you switch but you said you did that ..I hope ? you get it fixed
I'm having the same problem. Some texts I receive and some I dont. My wife has an iphone and thinks I'm ignoring her. ... OK sometimes I am but it is a real problem.
I tried using Verizon's Messages + instead of Chomp . That did not fix the problem.
Dont know what to do next.
Al
I overheard a similar problem while browsing at a vzw store and they said they had to call Apple and tell them to disable ur imessage service. I've never really used apple products for the last 20 years but hope it helps.

Hey everyone,
My girlfriend has a Note 4. She switched from iPhone to her Note 4 about 5 months ago. She did the whole thing where she had to disable her iMessages or whatever it is that needs to get done. Her phone is currently running Lollipop. Ever since she went to Android she has had a problem where she will sometimes (more often than not, actually) not receive group texts. We've tried everything.... different messaging app, cleared the cache, done a factory reset, called ATT multiple times (the issue has been escalated and we are currently on a 3 day waiting period to hear back from someone). The issue is only noticeable when she gets group texts from other iPhone users regardless of carrier. She is at her wits end and about to just go back to the iPhone. Is there anything else she can do? Thank you.

On their iPhones under messaging settings turn on SEND AS SMS. Also, GROUP MESSAGING and MMS MESSAGING need to be turned on. I know it kinda sucks, but all of her friends that have iPhones and send group messages need to do this. This will allow the iPhone users to continue to send via imessage and non-iPhone users should now be able to group text with them.

Thank you for the info guys. She had done something similar to that in the beginning with her close friends. She had to add a bunch of people to her contacts because of school and she didn't realize until after a while that she wasn't getting group texts. I think she's fed up with the issue and just switching back to iPhone, unfortunately.
Thank you for the help though. This is good to know of for future reference.
Is anyone experiencing issues receiving group messages from iPhone users?
No issue here on my 6 pro or my wife's 6. Could it be a carrier issue for you?
The reason I say that is my wife and I are in a mms group chat with family that has iphones but we're all on the same carrier
No issues on Google Fi, other than the annoying separate message every time someone reacts to a post.

I'm starting to think that this issue was somehow associated with my number. Originally I was on T-Mobile and ported my number to to Xfinity Mobile. Since the port, I've been having strange issues with group MMS messages. I feel like at this point I might have to get a new number.

It could be related, but it could also not be. I don't think it's specific to the device though, tbh.

I put my sim in another phone and I'm still having the same issue
I would try having the sim replaced before I get a new number
And are we talking about a delay or "never comes, not today, not tomorrow and not in a hundred years"?
If it's about the former, is your phone rooted? Do you have any battery saving apps? Did you tinker with any ADB commands?
If the SIM/your phone number itself is the culprit, that should be relatively easy to find out. Just put it into the phone of someone else (they can create a guest account) and see if that works.
I know my family (all iphone users) say that sometimes i (and other Android users) miss some of their texts. I blame Apple
I updated my plan last week and have not received group messages. I was on a chat with Verizon today for like 2 hrs because I ordered a new sim but it wouldn't activate so they activated then after about 45 minutes they were able to get my group messaging working. It seemed like they removed group messaging from my service then added it back and everything has been fine since. Good luck it was driving me crazy for the past 5 days
It's likely an issue with the sender's carrier. Once upon a time I absolutely would not receive any mms from any iPhone on at&t on time. They'd come in days late, and out of order. Made group texts a nightmare.
If you can, get your people to switch to Signal. It's like iMessage, but it works cross platform.
