[Q] Flash L Firmware with KK radio? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm in Australia with a Telstra branded One M8, full RUU conversion to GPE, with manual flash to Telstra radio.
I want to try SkyDragon or Sinless Roms, but I have to flash L firmware and I noticed the firmware has a radio file in it.
Can I remove the radio file and flash the firmware, or, replace the radio file with the file I currently have from the KK GPE?
Thanks!

Are you S-off ?
If so you can flash any radii you want and stick with the one you think works best

I am S-Off, went back and did a more thorough search and found this (for N5) http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/lolipop-radio-t2939844
Will try tonight after work, thanks for the confirmation, gives me a bit more confidence!

You're not going to try to flash that on an m8 are you?
Sent from my HTC one m8 Google play edition

It must be for your device

Yeah, flashing a radio for another device is a great way to brick.

I feel like I must be super clear to the OP
If you don't understand radios are per device I now recommend just calling and texting with it.

Lol sorry guys for the panic, and I really appreciate you guys looking out for me, but no, I was not going to flash the N5 radio to my device, I was just posting it as it was an example I'd found of someone else flashing a radio from a different Android version to their rom.
Anyways, flashed Sinless with the Telstra One M8 radio provided here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56629450&highlight=telstra#post56629450
Everything works fine, although as a matter of preference I restored nandroid to GPE 4.4.4 as I can't live without Xposed :/
Edit: I realise going back and reading my post it sounds like that is exactly what I was going to do...

well if you are on 4.4.2 and want to flash a 4.4.3 rom, you need to flash new firmware or else some things will break, like wifi and BT I believe. In order for you to flash new firmware you have to change the SCID or else it will error out.
1. change SCID
2.flash firmware
3.flash rom
So if you stay s on you can only flash 4.4.2 or aosp roms is that correct
I have never had a device with a off capability I'm just trying to get my head round it all I wouldn't know which firmware to flash I have a UK o2 carrier locked/branded device any advise is truly appreciated
Basically I'm having issues with adb on my laptop so Forrester is out if the question and atm I can't use sunshine as I can't afford it as I've spent all my money on my m8 lol

Well in that case you can only flash 4.4.2 roms. Or you can flash 4.4.3 but you will suffer from slow boot times and maybe broken wifi or BT
Wouldn't a custom kernel fix that issue just curious
Ah custom kernel will not solve it at this moment. The kernels have changed from 4.2.2 to 4.4.3....they don't match.
There is a way to flash the new firmware on a s-on device, there is a topic about this somewhere. Not sure what criteria the phone has to meet up with tho....like official main version number.....
But the official 4.4.3 is rolling out as we speak so it doesn't take long before you can flash a 4.4.3. But the basic answer still stands.....no you do not need s-off for flashing roms. And im fine btw thank you

HTC One M8 (Asian model) conversion to GPE - Radios

Hi everyone,
This is my first post on XDA and i'm actually thrilled.
So I have the Taiwanese unlocked model of the HTC One (M8) and I'm thinking over fully converting it to a GPE with the famous RUU.
I tried searching the forums but couldn't find a strict answer for my issue: If I fully convert my device, I know this means the radio image will also change to the stock one of the GPE version.
What does it mean? Will I lose signal because this is a different radio image than the Asian one? Do I have to change the radio image after installing the RUU.zip?
I'm fairly new to modifying my devices so take it easy on me.
THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE.
Nimi.
If it's anything like the regular M8, you can just reflash the radio of your choice.

Yes, It is anything like the regular GSM M8, just the CPU runs at 2.5GHZ rather than 2.3 on US models, and of course it supports different bands.
So, I do everything just like the tutorials say and after im finished I can reflash the Taiwanese radio for example? Will I still get OTA updates?
Thanks!
You should be able to. But you may want to wait until someone with the Asian version can confirm. If you want to test it out, flash the 4.4.3 GPE ruu and see if you get the 4.4.4 OTA.

I have Asian version. And I have rooted to convert to GPE. Everytime I install the GPE rom or OTA update. I always have to flash the asian radio so that I will get signal. I wish there was a way such that OTA will install and know that an Asian radio is required; or maybe something that will prevent my radio from being overwritten.
About the question if you'll get OTA updates automatically, I remember you have to modify you CID or MID or something. You will have to look up for that...
I have the Asian model as well, I converted over and placed the asian radio in the ruu zip before flashing, and now whenever i get an ota it doesnt change the radio

Rooted, ROM'd, and wondering!

I've just finished rooting and installed a custom ROM on my device, but now I'm looking into S-Off. My question is, how?
I did this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2706391
and now I don't have Wi-Fi, which apparently means that my firmware needs to be updated.
How, exactly, does one do that when you're no longer on the service provider it was on?
I'm on T-Mobile now, it was on AT&T. The phone is an AT&T HTC One M8.
I've got the files for Firewater, but I'm not 100% sure how to go about it, other than following tutorials I've found. Anyway, if someone could assist me in this search, it would be greatly appreciated.
Chances are firewater is not going to work, you'll need to use Sunshine S-off (pay 25$), S-off jas nothing to do with carrier
Sunshine: http://theroot.ninja
Firewater instructions: http://firewater-soff.com/instructions/
If I try Firewater, is there a chance to royally mess up my work? I.E. brick me, or will it error out beforehand?
firewater does NOT work. and will never work again. You can own the files but they won't work as it has has to establish a connection to the s-off server which is offline. sunshine is the one and only way. you can read that in the s-off thread here on xda and on their website !
and also questions belong in the Q&A section so please use that board the next time instead of the general subforum.
good luck with sunshine

Theirs a AT&T RUU here >>link removed by request
that will let you flash some roms here, not all
You'll have to relock your bootloader to flash it - fastboot oem lock -
and when your finished updateing unlock the bootloader and flash TWRP and root

Ah, see, this is the info that I couldn't find at all. I had no idea it was server-related, so it wouldn't work. I thought all the files were local, that's why I was investigating. Well, as long as Sunshine will work and not mess anything up, I guess that's what I'm going to have to do. Even though there's another ROM on my phone, I should still be able to use Sunshine and get the firmware updated without any issues, yeah? I would just like to get confirmation from someone who knows my exact situation and not search the forums to a situation "Similar" to mine and eff up my phone.

S-OFF means do as you like, change firmwares, convert to GPE and back to sense. S-OFF is freedom
Okay, here's where I'm at, if anyone would inform me in the direction I should take...
I've unlocked the bootloader, flashed a ROM, and rooted. Wi-Fi doesn't work because I need the newer firmware on the device.
In order to get the newer firmware, I need to have S-Off. I don't. Sunshine doesn't work because the ROM I have flashed is a 5.0.1 version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2706391 If it helps.
Can I go digging to find a KitKat-based ROM and see if Sunshine will work then, or do I need to go through the BS to flash stock everything on my phone and THEN run Sunshine? I'd really like some advice before I royally mess something up.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: I found this and it looks like something that might work. Flash InsertCoin, download and pay for Sunshine, S-Off, flash firmware, go back to SkyDragon?

Forgive me for asking, but I've searched... Where is this rooted stock one you're talking about?
All right, I've flashed back to as stock as I can find, but it's still not allowing Sunshine to be installed.
However, I've stumbled upon something saying that if the Recovery is fastboot booted, it acts as though the device is S-Off? If I run the recovery in such a manner, could I possibly flash a new Firmware on there like that?

I did it with that one..
Okay, here's an update:
I flashed that ROM you showed me, Alex, and then used Sunshine to S-Off my M8. That worked. I paid for it, all is well.
Flashed the Viper ROM, but didn't have Wi-Fi. So, I went back to SkyDragon, same thing.
I flashed firmware 4.28.401.9 (I think. I did typed that from memory..) but I still have no Wi-Fi.
I'm going to try to flash the GPE firmware now. I'll edit once I get it up and running!
Thanks so much guys! I really appreciate your help!

If your wifi isn't working with ViperOne, then the firmware didn't flash correctly. Go to your bootloader/hboot and check the readout there. What it says under OS is your firmware version. If it is blank it is because of your recovery. TWRP 2.8.0.3 is recommended. You can also tell by the hboot number. 3.19 = 4.4.4 firmware

That's awesome to know. I literally just flashed the GPE firmware, and I think I partitioned properly. (no errors while installing) It's currently doing the first boot.
Flashing that GPE firmware was nerve-racking. It went sooo slow. Here's hoping it goes through! UPDATES TO COME! I'm excited.
UPDATE:
HOLY HNNNNNNNNNNNNNG IT WORKED.
Good LORD I CAN FINALLY DOWNLOAD MY UPDATES.
Please excuse the caps, I'm effing excited right now. THANKS SO MUCH EVERYONE.
Nice that you have it working.. Don't forget.. If you want to go back to sense you need the sense firmware.. As the partitions are a bit different.. Btw I'm very happy ? with gpe 5

Right at this point, I don't care to go back to Sense firmware. I'm spoiled by the bright look of SkyDragon, so this is where I'm staying!

[q] help.asap.. Stuck

i have an HTC One m8. i rooted my phone and installed the harman kardonn mod. ever since my phone got screwed up and i didnt take a back up. now i want to return to my 100% stock rom with boomsound. i completely wanna unroot my phone. but i cant find the ruu or recovery or Nandroid backups anywhere. most of the links are gone cause MEGA is taken off the web. My software number is 3.35.720.1 running 4.4.4. can someone tell me how to i go back to stock. where can i get the back up/RUU ??? HELP ME PLEASE
So are you going to make a nandroid before making any system changes next time? I would certainly hope so.
You can ask and hope for somebody to post the nandroid for your software version.
Alternately, just find a custom ROM to your liking, and flash it.
HK mod requires appropriate firmware (s-off required).
There's a TMO RUU here: http://dl4.htc.com/RomCode/Source_a..._20.56.4198.02L_F_release_385597_signed_2.exe
If you poke around htc you might find more too. Worth a look.
But yeah, like repoint said, you could just flash a stock rom too...might be easier.

There are RUUs for T-Mob US, Sprint, and AT&T, as well as Dev Edition and GPE versions. But s-off is needed to run an RUU that does not match your CID/MID. Its not clear whether the OP has s-on or s-off.
Flashing a stock or any custom ROM is almost certainly easier. Just flash the ROM, and the issues with HK mod incompatibility will be fixed.

can i flash harmankardon RUU ?

to my s-off htc one m8 ?
super cid
Yes, but you might have issues with reception as it's based on US bands
Harmon Kardon is the Sprint version, which is a CDMA phone (actually its both CDMA/GSM, but most call it "CDMA" version for simplicity). I've never seen any definitive answer on whether that variant is different or not in hardware from the GSM versions (some say yes, some say no, and I haven't seen proof either way). But I'd err on the side of caution and recommend not to run any RUU for the CDMA.
Only real difference in the software itself is the Harmon Kardon mod, which you can install manually provided you also install the proper firmware. Look in the Development section for details.
thanks both of u
so i got this
yes i can flash but i have to flash my radio separately
and yes there is a MOD that i can use it on android 4.4.4 base
i want to try something different may i ask what u two are running on as daily driver?
I'm 100% stock, not root, nothing changed, using the stock EU Lollipop build

That is not personally what I recommended in the first paragraph of my previous post.
I recommend you not run the Sprint RUU on a GSM device. Yes, it might be fine. But there isn't much benefit if it works. And certainly not worth the risk of bricking the phone.
If you want to run the HK mod on Lollipop, just hold on. Someone may extract and post that mod. The LP update for Sprint is very very new (yesterday!). So just wait and see if someone posts it.
