Especially on AOSP ROMs such as OmniROM? I'm looking at this product:

Would it work as exFAT, or would I need to reformat it to FAT32?
I don't see why not. When I was using my S3, I used a 128GB Micro SD Card for a while. Now mind you this was on TouchWiz ( MOAR Rom ) . It was fomatted to FAT32.
Also you can get the same SD Card from Amazon for less. Check it out in the link below.

If you mean a larger capacity SD Card than Samsung officially states is supported on the S3. Then the answer is yes. As I previously stated. I used a 128GB Micro SD Card on my S3 running TW with no issues.
My S3 runs fine with a 128GB Micro SD Card formatted with exFAT. Absolutely no issues...

According to Samsung and all other websites, our SGW doesn't support microSDXC, it only supports microSDHC up to 32GB class 10.
SDXC is not downwards compatible.

yes..at first its hard for me to believe that it would work on mobile phone but after days of search all over forum & google.. I saw a few say it works on sII, by formatting to FAT32.
By formatting the micro sd card in the phone setting under storage menu.
check this out.. speechless this youtube video:Sandisk 64GB Micro SDXC Vs Samsung Galaxy S II.
sorry cant post link this my 1st post.

To be honest, I don't see any technical reason why it can't read a 64 GB SD Card... as long as the SD Card is formatted as FAT32 or ext2/3/4 ...

I was wondering what the max size Micro SD card for the external slot could be used on this phone for music, videos, picture, maybe eventually moving apps to?
Thank you,
Whiteice
128 micro sdxc is the max i think it says on the box. (trashed mine) currently ruinning a 32 micro in my S3 no problems what so ever
The Samsung web site lists 64GB as the max size, but that may just be because that's the largest card currently available. The sdXC spec allows for up to 2 TB cards,.
I have a 64GB GB Sandisk card that works fine.
64GB is the biggest that will work on this phone. Some of the 64GB cards won't be recognized, and will need to be format to FAT32. My SanDisk Ultra 64gb Class 10 Micro Sd card had to be formated to FAT32 so I could use it in my S3 even though it said it was made for Android.

yeah i agree as well, the galaxy s3 doesnt have a limit of ext storage to support once it was upgraded to support SdXC, other then the Sd support max limit which is 2T of space for a SDXC memory card. Ull just have to format the XC memory card to extfat or Fat32 both beeing close to the same and supportive specially if ure rooted with CWM and want to nandroid.
had to do the same with my new MicroSdXC 64 Mobile Ultra Class 10 which also said it was made for android devices. using my OTG usb mass storage it shows me having 2-2Ts separate connected together. dont ask i watch alot of movies
so you have to format 64gb sdxc card to fat32 to work on sgsiii, if you are rooted......correct?

My card came formatted exFAT and I did not reformat it before using it in my phone. The only gotcha with exFAT is that the recoveries can not recognize exFAT. I also had to download an update from Microsoft to get my Win XP machine to be able to use the exFAT partition. If that is an issue you can use SD Formatter to reformat the card to FAT32.
Just what I was looking for!!!

Guys, be warned that SGS3 DOES NOT support UHS-1 (i.e. class 10) cards.
There's a thread some on here where the exact card is supported.

does not support, but it works fine if you format the card in the phone. exFAT does not work, however, so you are limited to files < 4gb in size. Kind of defeats the purpose of having such a large microsd card though
UHS1 is simply a speed classification typically used by high power cameras. C10 refers to the minimum write speed of 10mb/s.
This card will work in exfat format for stock GS3, however cwm or twrp recovery only supports fat32 which this card will format to.
I have used this card before so don't be reluctant to to purchase it.
I have been using this exact card since the date I got my GS3 (mid June). It works well with everything and never crashed. It also works with backup and restore within CWM. YMMV though. It is exFAT formatted.
Phone will format it as fat32 and all will be fine. Tested and works well.

What are you guys talking about? Have anyone actually tried this out?
I have this exact same card UHS-1 Class 10 (not the old Class 6 one) in exFat format and everything works fine in CWM and in Android.
EDIT: BTW, I formatted the card with SDFormatter on my PC, not on the phone.
S3 doesn't support UHS-1 speed but it does support exFAT format. The card itself came as exFAT, S3 won't even ask you to reformat it as FAT32. Just pop it in and everything works 100%.
Sweet, just nabbed one. I check the price every day also and was just about to post it here...beaten to the punch as usual .
ps anyone want to buy a Zune80gb heh heh
Is there a good way to utilize an "external" sd card to store apps and nandroids? It seems like the GS3 (and maybe just ICS/JB in general) is setup to use the "internal" sd for everything.

Cool, thanks. Any idea about Play store apps? I checked the reviews on Apps2Sd and they were all complaints about how it can only see the internal memory partition.

SD formatter is awesome software. I had issues with a 4speed card jumping in my canon. The SDformatter, made it stop. Dunno how it works, but it does.
Saw this on another android blog this morning and picked up a 32 for the gf, and a 64 for myself. Thanks for posting guys.

Be aware!
I bought the very same card at the beginning of the month and after 2 days of use the Card stopped working...
The card became unusable and I had to fill a claim with Amazon since the seller didn't reply to any of the emails I sent...
Just my experience guys...

As far as I know there is NO 512gb micro sd card available for purchase.... I would believe it to be fake...
It's in this line here - "with the way the card is made and formatted it may hold varying storage from card to card. Errors may be experienced once the maximum capacity of the memory card has been reached."
In other words, if you can't hold more than 2 gb on it that's your problem and we hold no responsibility... Jerks out looking for suckers...
n this is why i ask questions before i do anything lol. so then is 128 the current size thats legit then? and which brand is more sturdy aka less likely to corrupt/fail
ASUS Zenfone 2 supports up to 128GB but only FAT32 format.
Sincerely
ASUS_USA
@Asus_USA are sd's pre setup with fat32? or would i have to put it in an adapter n reformat to fat32
does it have to b sdxc? or can it be a regular sd
previous question: safest brand to go with?
If SD card cant be detected then you may need to use an adapter to format to FAT32
Zenfone 2 supports microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC, with speed class up to Class 10
Unfortunately we dont have a specific brand to recommend
Sincerely,
ASUS_USA

exfat supported... I never change the format.
Fat32 has 4gb file restrictions, I have 8gb+ files there...
NTFS NOT natively supported.
Recovery however needs 32gb or less or Fat32 formatted card to install updates if you download the OTA from here.
Cheers...
Hi, you can purchase 512gb micro sd cards inexpensively around $20 ea. from OUS sites legally and with assurances. I used aliexpress. I put one in my samsung avant 4 4 2 from tmobile, and it seems work. I also put in my older samsung, ExhibitII, also tmobile, with gingerbread but it seems that version cant handle the memory volume. I guess size does matter.
SO apparently The SD card i bought (EMTEC MICRO SD XC 64GB) ISNT COMPATIBLE FOR BEING ABLE TO FORMAT AS INTERNAL CAUSE ITS NOT FAST ENOUGH WHICH DOESNT MAKE SENSE CAUSE IT STATED ON THE PACKAGE ONE OF THE FASTEST SD CARD. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT TO LOOK FOR APPARENTLY CAUSE I GUESS I CANT GO BY WHAT THE PACKAGE ON THE SD CARD STATES. THANKS EVERYONE IN ADVANCE

I've recently been researching into this. Consensus is either the Samsung Evo Plus or SandDisk Ultra. Both priced about the same.
128GB for around £35, 64GB around £17.
Also make sure it's class 10.
New SDcards will have A classes, they are meant for installing apps on them, meaning they are optimized for smartphone usage. SanDisk already announced one in A1 class.
