[Q] Need to recover file from nandroid backup?! - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I need to recover some information from my phone from before I flashed a new ROM, and wondering what's the easiest way about it based on the scenario given below;
I was running a rooted stock ROM (LB) with TWRP. I used titanium to batch backup my apps ( but seem to have overlooked my notepad app which had info in it that I now need.)
I installed resurrection remix which comes with CWM so can't just do a new nandroid, then restore the old one to get the info, then re-restore the newer backup.
Is there a way to extract the info direct from my twrp backup on my SD/ laptop or do I need to/is it possible to flash TWRP to replace CWM and keep the rest of the ROM as-is?
TIA

If you are just recovering a file, and not restoring the backup itself, try using nandroid manager. I can extract a file from my nandroid backup (created by cwm). I never tried it with twrp nandroid backup though.

Other option is to try to flash the Dual Recovery on your phone.
Then you have TWRP and CWM on your phone.

nandroid backup

hi
im trying to perform a nandroid backup before flashing a new rom
i'm already rooted but cant figure out how to get into the nandroid bootloader to do this
help
thank you
Get back into recovery using whatever method you used to root - it's step 2 or recovery-windows.bat, whatever you used, and nandroid is under the Backup/Restore section of the recovery menu. Pick nand backup, not the nand+ext.
thanks so much
just tried booting the phone without being connected to the computer and wondered why the option wasnt there to perform a backup

CWM Backups on TWRP?

I've had CWM for quite a while now and I have my nandroid backup of my stock rom on it. If I switch to TWRP, will the backup still be there? Also, if it is, will the backup be compatible and able to restore using TWRP? Thanks.
no
So should I just stick with CWM or is there anything I can do that can keep my backup if I switch to TWRP?
Just keep a copy of the cwm recovery. You can always reinstall it if you need to flash your stock backup.

[Q] Flash a new rom then restore a backup

Lets say I am on a fairly stock rom and have a good TWRP backup and try a radically different rom (like a CM 10.x) and decide to go back to what I had before do I have to flash the old rom file then restore the back up file or can I just restore the TWRP backup?
You can just restore the backup but do a reset first. Eg wipe to install new rom

Hi - it depends on what you include in the backup on TWRP. If you select also Boot, System, Data and Recovery you will get back really everything you had. If you don't have a backup of EFS I would include that too. I did that quite often. When restoring backup you have also your old kernel/modem as it was working before. I never had bad experience with that. Whenever I'm now on CWM 6.0.3.5 as I'm using Android 4.3 (Probam 4.4).

you need to flash cwm recovery first and do a full wipe. I think the backup folder is clockworkmod/backup/"date". I find it easier to just wipe then do a backup, even though is nothing on your phone, and this will give you the file structure you need. then go to the "backup/date" folder and delete the contents and replace them with your saved backup and flash it. and dont forget to flash the boot.img from your backup too

[Q] Nandroid backup problem

Hi everyone,
I have rooted LG G3 running Lollipop 5.0. I've managed to install a custom recovery (TWRP) and now I want to flash a custom kernel. But before doing so I need a nandroid backup just in case something goes wrong.
The problem is that when I make a nandroid backup (everything goes ok), I can't find it on my sdcard. If I boot into recovery and open a file manager from there, I see it - it's there. But when I try to find it using some kind of file explorer (I've tried ES File Explorer, Root Browser, etc) the TWRP folder, where the backup is supposed to be, isn't there.
I have installed the revovery over my stock one and haven't got any other recoveries before that (if that matters).
Am I doidng something wrong or there is just something that I am missing?
Please help.
Best regards and thanks in advance.
