If using an unlocked DI2 with AT&T sim card in GSM mode, the APN settings should be auto-configured & work for voice & SMS, data if enabled & provisioned in the carrier's plan features - there is no "programming" code to input, unlike VZ's CDMA network using *228

SIM Unlocking Question

My phone (and my wife's MyTouch 4G) are both rooted and running AOSP ROMs. Do I still need an unlock code from T-Mobile before I can switch to Straight Talk Wireless?

Yes.. I still need an unlock code to use it with a different carrier
Rooting does not unlock your phone. Common misconception
Thanks guys. I knew rooting didn't affect SIM lock, but wasn't sure about running a whole different ROM.

you also need to call straight talk to give them you imei and phone info i did it for att worked fine if it works let me know i might get a strau=ight t. sim too lol good day to you :fingers-crossed:
Well I live chatted with T-Mobile support and put in a request for unlock codes. Hopefully I'll get those within 24 hours. Then it's on to Straight Talk.

Okay, I've got my unlock codes and my SIM cards, but now I'm having another issue. I put the straight talk SIM card into the phone, but was never prompted to enter the unlock code. I can make and receive calls and have data, but it won't let me dial Straight Talk's voicemail number. I get an error that says my call can't be completed as dialed and to call 611 for assistance. Is there a way to force the prompt for the SIM unlock code, cause I think that's my problem?

You have to be on Stock Rom (ICS) to be able to input the code.
So, you have to flash back the stock Rom, unlock it and flash back
whatever Rom you want after that.
Thanks. Though I'm beginning to think that may not be the problem, since I can make calls and get data. Just not sure why I can dial Straight Talk voicemail.

you can always call tmobile and have them unlock it for you
Thanks, but I forgot to update: all is well, the issue wasn't the unlock, but a problem on Straight Talk's end that they eventually resolved.

T999 to Metro

I have an S3 rooted with 4.3.
I have a Metro PCS sim which I am trying to use with this phone.
The phone seems able to read the sim OK.
Under status I can see my phone number.
Everything else is unknown. Network is unknown, Mobile network type is unknown, service state is out of service.
I get full signal too, but when I go to mobile networks, I receive a message "Insert SIM card to access network services"
So I can see my phone number, and I dont have a message telling me to insert sim when I start the phone.
I have checked with Tmobile and I know the phone is not black listed, but when I make a call I get not registered on the network.
I do see also my IMEI number and seems to be correct under about
I really dont know where else to look for answers. I would love some help with this.
Any ideas?
Anyone?
Do you have the 4.3 modem? And also did you add the device to your line? Otherwise it won't work no matter what you do

The Baseband version is T999UVUEMJC.
I tried to add this phone by contacting Metro, and they told me that they couldn't because the phone is locked. I contacted T-mobile, and the person sent a request to get it unlocked, and said that I should wait 72 hours to hear from someone. I waited more then 72 hours, and I called T-mobile again, and then I was told that I needed to have service before they could unlock the phone. I was not sure if that was the issue since the phone did not give me the invalid sim card error.
I went to Metros site to see if I can check the IMEI. Their system said the phone was lost or stolen. I called T-mobile to check on the IMEI, and they told me its fine and there are no blocks, and ready to activate.
I also confirmed the status using both Swappa, and checkesnfree. They both say the phone is ok. I would think just using the Sim should work, but I am not sure what to believe.
Ok there are 2 things you need to do.
1) update your modem to a 4.3 modem
2) add the device to your line.. Just swapping sim cards will not work. It also doesn't need to be unlocked.. Any T-Mobile phone will work with metro as long as its in a gsm market, so you might want to try doing it again.. I worked at metro so that's how I know all this
Edit: never mind you do have a 4.3 modem my mistake for reading too quickly.. But it looks like you're set to go, you just need to add the device to your line, so try adding it again

Have you read THIS
There are people offering remote flashing services on ebay. I have had 4 Sprint phones flashed to StraightTalk, using Verizon towers. 2 of them were S3's. If I find the link, I'll message it to you. If you have access to all menus, you can change the APN. You will need to use a 3rd party messaging app. They'll hook you up

Straight Talk data issues with custom roms using 4g LTE Verizon sim

Greetings everyone!
Signed up so that I can hopefully help someone else in need with their LG G3 phone using the Straight Talk 4G LTE Verizon sim card.
After many hours of flashing roms and trying out various things, it turns out for some reason other variants of the stock roms like Bliss Pop, CoudyG3, and Skydragon will not work with the data. I can still use my phone and make calls and i can still get text messages and even pictures sent through text messages, but for the life of me data would NOT work.
The only rom that did work again was the Jasmine rom. To my understanding it works pretty close to the stock verizon rom that comes with the LG G3. After the flash, BOOM! Everything worked and data came back to life.
I noticed the APN settings is very very different but this rom wont let you go in it to see it's settings. Surely there is a way to import/export the APN data to push on over to another custom rom? Just weird that after putting this specific custom rom data happily worked again.
BTW, if anyone tries to activate a verizon lg g3 with straight talk, be careful. Though their stupid website said that the phone was already registered with another tracfone provider/service, I was still able to get the phone to work. If after entering your MEID/EMI or whatever the numbers are and the straight talk website spits it back out at you, CALL straight talk. I got screwed and used up the network access code which somehow got lost into oblivion, but turns out that they themselves can manually add the Verizion 4G LTE sim card with the network access code card. (I bought the 4g LTE sim card package from wal mart). As long as the phone is in good standing, it will work!
Thanks. Hope this helps someone else out trying to get it to work with straight talk. I will try and see if there is a way to export this APN setting. I was told by straight talk that you don't need an APN set, but i think they are lying.
Peace!
solved
Back again,
Happy to report im using skydragon Rom with straight talk. Turns out you do in fact need to set the apn in the settings. Just add this apn
acct.tf.gw6.vzwentp
This is the apn for the Verizon 4g lte sim card when you use it. I didn't have to reset the phone but now data works great.
Hey question. I have a Straight Talk S3 currently running CM 11 kitkat based rom and things work great but I found other roms I want to install one of them being a Pac-Man custom rom but I have no data. I have a Verizon CDMA 4G LTE sim coming in acouple days just need the apn settings. Could anyone help me out with this? Thanx in advance for any help.

Surely it is the same APN setting as above. Try it out once you get your Sim card. Also, that S3 being a different phone may pick up on the access point names when you try another rom and set itself up, but if data is still not working, then try that APN I posted on the first post.
Also, be careful that you are actually connecting at LTE speeds as long as your area has it. Flashing to another rom I was only connecting at 3G. Turns out that once I tried another rom, you have to set the preferred network to LTE, then give the phone a reset. It took it a moment after reboot, but LTE finally showed up.
Depending on your phone, there are other settings to be set in it's hidden menu settings using the phones dialer. Just google around.
Hope this helps!
