Guys is there any way to extract the image elements from the watch face files, weather it is a .watch or a .face file. I think it would be great to be able to do this as I it opens up further tinkering with the images.

You have to find the correct folder inside your facer folder for the face you want to edit. Inside that folder there is an images folder. The names are completely random so I usually just transfer the whole folder to my computer. Change the name of each image to add a .png extension and they should display and edit like any other image file.

Just to add regarding the image names:
You can open watchface.json and the Edit page of the watchface on the Facer app for your reference. In the json the different elements of the watchface are separated by braces {} and identified by the tag "id". What you'll need to do is the count the element in the Facer app, and find the id tag in the json of the corresponding number. The "hash" tag will have the image name. Hope that's easy to understand.
However, this is probably only useful if you're searching for a particular image in a file with many images.

Just change the .face or .watch file name to .zip and run any extractor program on it.
Yeah its just a zip
The question is, is there a way to transfer .face or .watch files to ur watch without using Facer or WatchMaker?
Well, what exactly are you asking?
.face files are Facer files, created by and for use with Facer.
.watch files are WatchMaker files, created by and for use with WatchMaker. WatchMaker (for now) can also import .face files, although I suspect the new major update coming for Facer will stop this.
So, considering that those files are made for those programs, why would you want them on your watch if not through those programs? Or I'm maybe missing the point of your question here.
Also, I thought I had posted this but maybe I dream about it (that sounds weird). You can open, edit, view the preview image, sort, organize, and then export Facer and WatchMaker files on your PC using the little program I created recently. Link is on my signature.

The reason I would want them on my watch but not through those apps is because the main purpose of those 2 apps is to create your own watch faces. But I don't want to create my own watch faces because I'm not good at it, I want to use watch faces that have been created and shared by other users. So why would I want to spend money on those 2 apps if I'm not going to use them to create watch faces? If someone creates a watch face and shares it publicly, I should be able to use it without having to pay for it. That's the whole point.
Your program can only display faces on the PC, I'm looking for a way to actually transfer them to my watch. Facer and WatchMaker should at least allow you to use other people's design and only charge you if you use the app to create your own design. Public/shared designs should be free for anyone to use...

So that's the problem. You're confused. Facer and WatchMaker work perfectly fine if you don't pay the ridiculously small one time $1 premium. You're just limited to the free faces they give you. The one time $1 payment allows you to USE custom faces and also to make them.
You think those of us making the faces and then handing them out for free should pay the $1, but you the end user consuming the same faces shouldn't? It's $1, once, for something that makes your $250+ accessory immensely better. Pay the $1.
Nobody is going to get around that, and if they do, I'm sure the Facer and WatchMaker guys will have something to say about it. They work very hard to make these apps for us, you should support them.

Who's to say that I haven't paid the $1? But that's not the point, it's not about how ridiculously small the $1 is and whether I should pay it or not, it's just that I believe this "freemium" business model is being abused... We are getting to a point where there's nothing u can do with those "smart" devices anymore unless u pay, and keep paying $1 after 1$ then you end up spending more than what you paid for the damn device...
I just believe that if someone creates something and they decide to share it with someone else for free, this someone else shouldn't have to pay to be able to use it. Like say I have premium and I created a watch face and I would like to share it with my brother or friend, they shouldn't have to pay to be able to use it, that's all... Those of you making the faces end up paying for premium, spend your time designing watch faces and in the end the app developer ends up collecting all the money and you don't get anything out of it, that's not fair...
I believe the app should allow you to use custom faces without premium, premium should only be to create them. This way, those who are creating the faces can choose to distribute them for free or actually sell them and the income would be distributed fairly between the app developer and the face creators...
But it's not a freemium system. Those make you pay as you go, for more and more. This is a $1 investment. Once. Freemium would be pay for every 10 faces you install or something. Would it make you happier if it was $1 to get the apps in the first place? They have no obligation to make it be free, you do understand that, right?
If you want to make a face and distribute it to your friends for free, then 1) make your own program that will accept similarly created faces (and don't charge people to use it!) or create your own face as an APK and distribute that.
Point is, you're seeing the faces as independent from the programs. They're not.
My group and I provide free custom content for a game. We don't even accept donations, we don't have ads, we don't have any revenue. It's all expenses. Do you think our users should be complaining that they have to buy a Xbox/PS3/Wii and a game, and the game peripherals, because our content is free? Should they complain that Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo and the game publisher is charging them to be able to use my free custom content?

The difference is that game consoles are a piece of hardware, it's different with software. Let's say you're a graphic designer and you designed a Logo using Photoshop (which you paid for) and then you want to give this Logo to your friend or sell it to a customer, your friend or customer wouldn't have to buy Photoshop to be able to use it, same with all other software like AutoCAD, PDF, etc... they all provide free viewers for their file formats, you would only have to purchase the pro/premium software if you want to create/edit content.

The Moto360 is an Android device. All apps, watch faces, etc you see on it are Android apps, which are in APK format. So .watch and .face are formats created by the creators of WatchMaker and Facer respectively to work with their software. WatchMaker decided to (without permission) import Facer files. Facer guy is not happy.
If you want to make your own and distribute, you need to know how to create Android apps. You need Eclipse, you need knowledge of Java programming for Android, and you need to understand Android Wear.
Or pay the $1 and have your friend pay the $1 admission price and use WatchMaker or Facer without having to do all that hard work yourself.
I think we've covered all the points, so I'm going to stop with this. If by now you're not convinced why these app developers deserve your $1 (and your friend's $1), I won't try to convince you anymore.
Does anyone know if you can still import .face (facer) files into watchmaker? there's a few facer watch faces i really like but i prefer the setup options watchmaker offers. I've been racking my brain on how to go about this. Where are the actual files stored? on my phone somewhere? on the watch? I'm using a gear sport tizen 4.0 if that makes a difference. I can't find any .face files from facer to change them over to watchmaker format. If this is even possible. Any help is appreciated!

is there a program out there to make a favorite/bookmark into a cab file so it will install as a .ink or program file? my whole idea is to make a bunch for things like fedex/ups tracking, store locators, and random rss feeds and some random websites for easy access. i want to make a folder in my start menu for these and iconize them to look like apps. thanks in advance. i am 100% willing to share my work if i can get the program and i am willing to take on custom orders.

the starbucks.cab actually creates an .ink file that when launched, directs you to the store locator page on their site. i downloaded it probably 2 years ago and i forgot from where. it is exactly what i am looking to create. i dont want to make wigets because they take up alot more space than an .ink file. as you can see, this cab is a measly 12k and wigets can be 100k+.
I opened the cab in WinCe Cab Manager and it has an exe in it and also a shortcut its not hard to make one of these the exe is still very small mine for you mail is 22kb and it has a few feautures but it just gets the job done.
ive never used visual studio in my life, but i learn new software very quickly. let me know which version of visual studio i should use for wm6.5 wvga and i will get it crackin and pump out exes all weekend
btw with everyone looking at this thread, leave comments on which sites you would like me to create, like i said i got all weekend to work on this...
visual studio 2008 you kinda have to know a lil visual basic or some programming language you can now add 6.5 and 6.5.3 sdk's to visual studio.
cool im bout to start working on it now. thanks!
just downloaded vs 08. im reading all kind of tutorials ive found about it to make exes. lets see how long it will take me to figure this out
Are we talking like IE or Opera or something else?
Because for IE it's easy, you have Windows\Favorites and file name is what ie uses for name and inside is like
[InternetShortcut]
URL=ht+tp://something/
without the + of course

ok im stuck, please someone help if you can. i looked for a wm template for vsb8 to make exes and i cant find one, so i basically reverse engineered the starbucks app i uploaded to see if i can just switch out the site and icon and i cant. credit and appreciation is granted to anyone who helps out!
{SBR}_L3GION, thanks for the jumpstart on this. unfortunatly after 5 days of trying to get a template for wince exes, i had no luck. like i said before, i dont know a damn thing about vsb8 and i tried to learn and failed, so i am ceasing production with these. it was good while it lasted. again thanks.
for an easier approach, try using link creator from freewarepcoketpc.net. paired with an icon changer. you can grab any favorite you have saved and make a link to it in the start menu, then use icon changer to make a high def. icon. use iconpedia, they have awesome icons for free!

I don't really understand why you want an .exe, when a simple .lnk file will work just fine.
I just got my self a samsung windows phone 7 and was looking around for a few hours. my question is, Is there a file browser(file explorer) built into WP7. I just cant imagine Microsoft settling with Iphone like interface where you need to sync music a photos and what not.
Simple answer is no and you won't be seeing one from Microsoft any time soon if at all. You can find plenty of threads on this topic if you take the time to search for them.
thank you. yea i would searched but didnt really have time to spare :\

It's probably because you don't do things which require that massively.
Like me - I never watch movies on my device so I did never care about missing codecs support.
But that doesn't mean they're not needed.
And BTW, regarding users etc.
The most successfull platform today supports all those missing things
yet it didn't prevent it from boasting a massive success on the market.
I'm probably going to try it this year, there are announcements of upcoming devices in Poland
unfortunately no qwerty ones (HD7,Trophy and this great LG)

maybe we don't miss it because we are not trying to use our devices as usb sticks (of which most people have several laying around).
The OS was designed that if something is stored on the phone, the proper apps can find them.
I too have not missed having a file explorer. The only reason I ever used it was to install cabs/ tweaks/ mods which are unnecessary on this device.

So I say still - you don't do things which require that. Fine for you.
Composing email with many different attachements is the simple example here, without success on WP7 right now.
Deleting unwanted files on the device en masse is the second.
Currently you cannot even put all the desired files easily on the device with one simple move
Like docs, videos, pics alltogether. Videos are compressed for instance AFAIK before beeing stored.
Zune does not support docs. All is complicated than.
Device's ability to recognize files by an app is not blocking seeing the file structure.
My SE X2 can do it like WP7, but with all the file explorer capabilities.

is there any hope of us getting a official File Manager? they said they werent going to allow a file manager but they said the same thing about multitasking and now they're allowing that has any thing been said about the possibility of them adding a file manager? and downloading mp3's and things from the web? they can limit the access to the file system if they wanted so i dont see the big deal about allowing us to have a file explorer
i know touch xplorer is out there but will there be a official one from microsoft? has anybody used touch xplorer? how is it compared to the old windows mobile file explorer?
I doubt it. And it isn't a task manager per se...more of an app switcher, so far as I can tell you can't kill the app from there. And I believe the multi-tasking is still iOS-esque in the sense that it tombstones still (except some apps are allowed to petition for run in the background [i.e. music apps]) and just restarts the app, but it does it much faster now.
I really don't understand this. If you want all that, go get an Android device. Wp7 is good because it's so lean and -easy-. Not that I mean that file managers aret hard to use. But I don't care to look at my files in a big list in a folder. Honestly, what's the point? I use my phone quickly, I put it back in my pocket. There are no apps taking up battery life or memory. Not likely at all. A file explorer would open up the system to manipulation and allow things to be added that could compromise the integrity of the system. The multi-task'er won't harm the system and will be one of the best there is.

I agree, that is the best reason why file managers would not be implemented. However, I think with Nokia's entrance in WP7 scene and considering their stance on closed & limited use of phones, we are likely to see a few things "enabled" at least on the developer side.
They never said there wouldn't be multitasking, they merely said they hadn't worked out a way to do it they were happy with. It's always been a 'coming soon' feature.
I doubt we'll get a 'File Explorer' in the way you want it, but I can see in future more freedom in adding/removing music, photos and videos. I can see you being able to download things through the web browser to the appropriate hub (provided the phone recognises the content type). I also think at some point they will allow you to load files into 3rd party apps storage areas, for example the Adobe Reader.

compromise the integrity of the system, how ? by adding, moving, deleting .... files ? crap man, that's what computers are for is file manipulation !
a task manager will harm the system (or battery life mostly) more than a filer would ever dream. messing with already -really- nicely done scheduling is osmething that doesn't need to be done. ever.
my 2 cents
Good grief. Look people if you don't understand what files are you shouldn't be posting about them.
Files store information in a structured way.
Sometimes this information is intended for use with only one program. E.g. files storing user settings. It is best for these files to be isolated for use only by this program.
Sometimes this information is in a standard format, usable by any program. E.g. mp3, jpeg, rtf, html, wmv or most files you know about. These files should be usable to any program, with restrictions by user only.
WP7 is an irredemably flawed system until it has this ability.
Once it is there anyone can write a file manager. Microsoft doesn't need to provide one.
Once you have a file browser, you need to have assoiations so you can open files with applications. This opens a whole new world.
Personally, I would love have a section of the memory on WP7 device to use as a USB drive, just so you can view your files on the device (music, Videos, word/execl docs, etc) and have a explorer just for those files. The OS would not get touched and everyone is happy.
MS did not say they are not going to allow Multi-tasking, it's just not added yet.

Well that's not all I use it for. I also use it for company email, hotmail, games, music/radio apps, etc. But the point is I like it's simplicity and ease of use. You put it away and it's good to go. There's no making sure you have to close apps, etc.
As for why I'm on here, I joined a long time ago for windows mobile, and of course got awesome awesome apps and tweaks here. And when I got a wp7, I just came here to talk about it, since I love it. I don't think being a genius developer is a prerequisite of being here?
I think personally that the people who are clamouring for a file manager have completely missed the whole point of Windows Phone.
The point is, you don't NEED a file manager, because your files are managed for you.
If your life is incomplete without a file manager,
A) Get out more

His point is that you shouldn't need to move it. A file should be associated with a program and it should reside in that program's memory space.
The whole File Manager aspect is archaic in a lot of respects. You shouldn't need to move it, you shouldn't need to extract the zip, you shouldn't need to add it to your library - it should be done for you.
I think the a appropriate request would be for Microsoft to allow 3rd parties to associate file types to their software - although this opens the system up to malicious softwares, it would allow developers to be much more creative.
Don't complain just because it isn't done the way you're used to - remember, this is no longer Windows Mobile

Such a scenario is not supported with WP7 now and probably never will be if MS sticks to their design principles with WP7. If such functionality is vital to you its probably best to consider another smartphone OS as WP7 will not be suitable for your needs.

And it's completely wrong. Only internal files that are understandable only to that application should reside in the applications isolated storage.
Actually his point was that Big Brother is looking after your files, and has chosen how they should be accessed; anyone who wants to do things differently should question whether he is a normal person.
The whole File Manager aspect is archaic in a lot of respects. You shouldn't need to move it, you shouldn't need to extract the zip, you shouldn't need to add it to your library - it should be done for you.

One reason is that folders are used for organization.
I think the a appropriate request would be for Microsoft to allow 3rd parties to associate file types to their software

That is great, and it assumes that there are files independent of applications. That is the key point and it's what I'm arguing for.
although this opens the system up to malicious softwares, it would allow developers to be much more creative.

Yes, it allows more things. There is no security risk however as only applications do things. Files don't do things. Applications can still be sandboxed (within silverlight) and access files. Of course a malicious application might delete files in common storage, but there are various ways of protecting against this, and it's an infinitessimal risk in practice.

Agreed.
Emailing Documents is a pain in the arse.

Don't complain just because it isn't done the way you're used to - remember, this is no longer Windows Mobile

so by this logic then they should be able to make a pocketrar app and have it available in the marketplace then correct? is it too far fetched for a app like that to be made?
I just picked up an Lg g watch r and i wanted to know if anyone knew how to get the included watch faces from the moto 360 and the g watch so we can share them between devices?
I was wondering the same thing myself. I renamed the Motorola Connect apk to a zip, and grabbed the "assets" folder, which contains all the included faces. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), the backgrounds, accents, numbers, hands, etc. are all separate images that need to be combined to get the full face.
I'm not sure how to get the faces from the G Watch though. Hope this helps at least a little bit. However, it's probably not useful without using the My Design type face on the Moto 360, or importing the assets into Facer or something.

Hi evrybody,
I use the “Dashboard” watch face, and I really like it. But, I wish that I could have a photo background.
Is there a way to modify this watch face so I can change the background?
If not, are there similar watch faces that you guys would recommend?
What I like about “Dashboard” watch face:
digital time with seconds
date & shortcut to timer
Additional things I wish it could have:
shortcuts to ECG, BP and Watch Translator
I would also be interested in designing my own watch face. I have Tezin Studio, so idk if I can make/customize watch faces in there. (Note: I can’t really code from scratch... only copy & paste lol. If I take this route, I would preferably want to use a template, or even just take the Dashboard code and edit it.)
Edit: I would prefer to use Tezin Studio and not Galaxy Watch Studio, because I dont have Windows 10.
I’m new to this forum, so sorry if this has been answered before.
Thanks
I use a Galaxy Active 2.
