Cant flash any new rom placed in SD card! [SOLVED] - Xiaomi Redmi 1S

Hey guys, I need some help. After I have flashed CM 11, I decided to move on and flash the PA rom. However, after that, I wanted to go back to MiUi. Hence, I put the .zip file into my SD card and flashed it, only getting Status 7 error. I googled and followed the steps to fix it, but to no avail. I then only had the option to restore from a backup of MiUi. Now, I wanna flash PuRe Performance Rom and I just get an installation abortion when "Installing Update". No other details were present. Is this a problem with my SD card? Or the rom? Or just my phone? And how can I fix it? Please help as I have no OS on my phone now. :crying:
Cheers!

Buddy did you see that the zip you are trying to flash is not a flashable rom but it looks like a backed up rom...there's no META-INF folder & the System is packed inside tar.

try restoring it....
Extract it in TWRP's backup folder where you have other backed up ROM, remember to extract inside a folder and name it.
For TWRP Recovery ► /External SD/TWRP/BACKUPS/*you will see a folder named randomly*/*inside random folder create another folder & name it something different*/*extract the zip files in your created folder*

[Q] Flashing rom

hi,
my phone freezed the other time after wiping (becasue I had a screen issue ) and glevitan helpfully flashed an unbranded rom back ( with the hack kit or something ) .
I fixed my screen so there shouldn't be any issues now and just wasn't too sure about flashing to get back my previous rom.
details of phone now

I checked my SD card and there's a clockworkmod folder with the files .android_secure.vfat (357,525 KB RAR) ,cache.ext4 ( 5KB RAR) , data.ext4 ( 489,783 RAR) , system.ext4 ( 424,852 KB RAR) , boot.img ( 4,096 KB IMG file) , fsinfo (1 KB file), nandroid.md5 (1 KB MD5 file) , recovery.img ( 8,701KB IMG file ) . anything i can do with them? they were the backup I did prior to my wiping disaster earlier.
I also have an ARHD 6.3.3 rom zip on my SD card too.
my volume button is spoilt. I installed 4Ext touch recovery , wanted to update it and it mentioned it needs busybox box from google play , which in turn requires root. So I can just download that , update the 4Ext touch recovery for use ?
thanks !
this too if it's of any use
I'm assuming you flashed 4ext from fastboot? You could restore your CWM backup from 4ext (I'm assuming that your 4ext isn't so old that the backup isn't compatible). Then you would have a rooted ROM. Or clean flash your ARHD.
no, I didnt flash the 4Ext from fastboot. I installed the 4Ext apk as per normal on my SD card after I got my screen repaired. It wasn't really outdated ( probably last month), but actually I can uninstall this and get a new copy from the site and install that too. Do I still have to download busybox or SuperSu , then clean flash the ARHD copy on my SD card ?
If you still have a custom recovery, go ahead and try to restore the backup. Or if you flash ARHD it is already rooted with busy box.
oh, so if I'm doing a clean flash of that arhd , I can use the 4ext recovery to wipe and then flash that without needing to download anything else ? thanks

Yes.
Here's how you install 4ext: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ih5orslc-4M
If you want you can install a CWM touch recovery instead and do everything as before on the original CWM only no need for the volume keys.
You can install CWM with this app form the market very easily: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simran.recmanager&feature=search_result
After doing that when you want to install a new ROM do a full wipe and flash on! Good luck!
i think it'll ask me to install busybox too if I click on update etc.
So I should be good to go from there ?
otherwise I'll have to have a go at the CWM. you mean to install by flashing cwm touch recovery from the Recovery Manage app, ilans93 ? I haven't used this before - just looked at the page and it's last updated was Feb last year.
I'm not sure if you still have a custom recovery. You could check by connecting your phone to your computer and using adb: adb reboot recovery.
If you don't, you need to fastboot flash a recovery first. Check the DHD General forums, Ace Think Tank guide, bottom of page 9, the section "S-Off no custom recovery." If you want 4ext download the image from their website and use that instead of the CWM image. Then flash ARHD from the recovery.

yes, I should have the custom recovery. as mentioned in 1st post , I have a folder on my SD card "clockworkmod" with the files .android_secure.vfat (357,525 KB RAR) ,cache.ext4 ( 5KB RAR) , data.ext4 ( 489,783 RAR) , system.ext4 ( 424,852 KB RAR) , boot.img ( 4,096 KB IMG file) , fsinfo (1 KB file), nandroid.md5 (1 KB MD5 file) , recovery.img ( 8,701KB IMG file ). that's the backup my previous 4ext did before I wiped and got stuck that time.
So i have to copy the recovery.img file to the PC adb folder and flash it ?

Thats the backup file, and it is located at /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup, but in order for you to be able to restore the backup, you must have recovery.. like bananagranola said, you need to flash the recovery first if you didnt have it, or just go to the recovery ( ext4 recovery or cwm depends on what you have installed) and restore the backup..

Exactly. The app does everything for you. There is no need to update the market app because it works perfectly, he only updates the online databases. Trust me, everything is up to date.
Note that the CWM touch can't install the new ViperDHD 2.0.0 ROM. For that you'll need 4ext or TWRP. I switched to TWRP and it's pretty good. I recommend you install it.
The way you install TWRP as easily as possible is to download GooManager from the Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zMHVwLmdvb21hbmFnZXIiXQ..) , run the app, hit menu and select "Install OpenRecoveryScript".

tried adb reboot recovery and I indeed didnt have custom recovery. it rebooted and I got a factory reset phone back - had to relog google market etc.
you mean to look at gevitan's ace guide , isn't it - i was looking at the pg 9 thread for a while and saw nothing related ( default forum number of posts per page ) , then realised gevitan's guide on pg 9 for "14. Stuck in the splash screen " seemed more probable .

S-OFF with custom recovery: Get a custom rom in your sdcard and flash it.
S-OFF no custom recovery: You need to re flash a custom recovery to be able to flash a custom rom again. Follow these steps:
1) Boot in hboot and choose fastboot.
2) Plug the phone to the pc (you have to see fastboot usb in red in the phone)
3) Open a cmd as admin or terminal as root in the PC.
4) Type (case sensitive):
5) wget http://db.tt/YV7fTEx7 --no-check-certificate (wait until the download is ready)
6) Fastboot oem rebootRUU (that will put your phone in RUU mode, with a black screen with silver HTC)
7) Fastboot flash zipcwm-5.0.2.7-ace.zip (it will send the file first and then flash it)
8) When you see OKAY. Finished (near the bottom in the cmd session even if the green bar in the phone is at half way)
9) Fastboot reboot-bootloader.
10) VOILÁ…check and you should have CWM again.
"
the DB link expired , but in any case, I need a touch recovery since my volume button can't work.
I looked around and saw this thread on CWM touch recovery : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474490
then again, the steps are slightly different too - I'm not too sure about the ENG s-off and whatnot.
but if i follow gevitan's guide, I should need a CWM touch in "zip" file format ? i looked at the CWM site and it only has the img file - do i need to change anything ?
thanks!
Edit: I was wrong. See the link below for the correct way.

Yes, you are right !
TWRP R03.1 is only for Android 4.2.2 ! - sure work also on KitKat but with some issue & also can break your device !
If you want , you can make for you ( update.zip with this recovery ) to flash on TWRP R03.1, but do not share it !
Have been here a few unfortunate cases : break device because was flashed custom recovery on locked firmware by this method ( update.zip with custom recovery in ) !
This command : > fastboot flash recovery recovery_twrp.img will not work on locked firmware !
So, we will not force any device to install custom recovery, into device where is not allowed to flash custom recovery !
By flashed update.zip with custom recovery in, we force to re-write recovery partition on device with locked firmware - in this case the device must necessarily take it to an authorized center for repair !
Thanks! Now I have EMUI2.3 + 4.4 KitKat and TWRP R03.1. It works with them (or together). Nevertheless you are advising to go to KitKat recovery. Ok, good...
If anyone has the time and resources, making a video tutorial on how to use TWRP and install custom roms, as well as get back to stock recovery, would be helpful. You are supposed to flash recovery via command prompt, not via SD card.
What you are supposed to do is to get the adb tools.
Follow these instructions:
1. Download the fastboot.zip from here: http://goo.gl/T4Z1Kp --> press ctrl+s on the page to download the rar. (Now you can view and download the file without permissions! Sorry, forgot to enable settings to share)
2. Extract the folder from the zip.
3. Open the folder, shift+right click, click on "open command prompt here".
4. Turn on your phone, make sure usb debugging is enabled.
5. Type "adb reboot bootloader".
6. Then type "fastboot flash recovery twrp_2_6_3_7_recovery.img" without quotations. NOTE: If you want to install the old TWRP then type "fastboot flash recovery_twrp_4.4.img"
7. Finally, type "fastboot reboot".
8. You are done! Make sure to go into recovery mode to check out the new TWRP.
You want to revert to Kitkat stock recovery?
1. Open the folder, shift+right click, click on "open command prompt here".
2. fastboot flash boot boot.img
3. fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
4. fastboot reboot !

I also use this recovery, and I have no problem - at first glance, it looks like you did not follow the entirely instructions in the OP !

Ok, so you are not really on stock Huawei KitKat Beta ! To install this custom recovery 2.6.3.5 you must first to install officialy stock Huawei
KitKat !
The only correct way to install stock Huawei KitKat Beta it's by this method : you must flash /dload/UPDATE.APP on stock recovery !
From what I see the majority use in the wrong way custom TWRP recovery !
TWRP R03.1 is ONLY for Android 4.2.2 , and must not be used to update your device to Android 4.4.2 ! ONLY stock recovery can do this update !
The new TWRP 2.6.3.5 must be used ONLY after your device was updated to Android 4.4.2 ! - and sure ONLY for ROM based Android 4.4.2 !
Cheers, will redo the whole thing again.
Thanks yr time and work!

[ROM]BackupKK_B706_EMUI_3.0_RePack_BbN

This ROM backup is based on chinese ROM kernel 3.0.8 for developers and it can be full of surprises.
IF SOMEONE WANTS TO MAKE A FLASHABLE.ZIP THEN FEEL FREE TO DO IT.
-ROOTED kinguser
- REMOVED CHINESE APPS
- GOOGLE SERVICES INTEGRATED
- ADDED QUICK BOOT AND ONE HAND UI
- LOCATION CHANGED FROM CHINA TO INTERNATIONAL (EN)
- EMUI 3.0 TWEAKS FROM SETTINGS for NAVIGATION BAR AND HIDE OPERATOR NAME IN STATUS BAR (SETTINGS---DISPLAY)
THANKS to: mihai_iulian
HOW TO INSTALL:
USE MIHAI_IULIAN's method post #14 (without gapps and superuser because they are already in backup):
"mihai_iulian
This is what I did and the ROM works great for me:
* download the zip and copy it into the SD card (I didn't unzip it and put the result in the TWRP/ Backups folder - it would've taken me 4ever)
* I downloaded the gapps 442 - and copy it to the SD card
* I copied the SU binary zip in the SD card (just in case)
I 've rebooted my phone into the Recovery (TWRP 2.8.0.1) did the wipe (advanced) -(wipe: dalvik cache, system, data, cache, custom storage) and then added those 3 packages to the installer
The installation ran smoothly an this new ROM works great (no issues so far) - although I didn't notice any improvement from the B704 (battery, CPU wise). I will keep testing it - again so far so good."

After restoring, the phone reboots, you will see the bootanimation, it turns off and goes back into recovery! (TWRP 2.8.1.0)
Update: I tried to install TWRP 2.7.0.0 and to try again but the problem remain

I dont know how he did it, but you can't flash the zip of a backup, neither can you restore a zip of a backup - the only way seems to me that you have to extract the zip into twrp/backups folder

Huge thanks to the awesome people behind this :good:
What you mean with "Easy rooting"? I used already but I not found anything related to rooting :/
This recovery is buggy, i can backup data but can't restore it, also maybe we need official TWRP
Sent from my Redmi Note 2 using Tapatalk
I agree. It may look nice but it's sluggish, buggy and is a pain in the butt to unlock its lockscreen. Regular TWRP is a billion times better

I used this TWRP about 2 months without any problems, almost on a daily basis.
Countless of backup/restores...
It is necessary only to turn off the screen timeout in settings, like in all versions of TWRP's.
This recovery working normaly with me.
I use this recovery since I've got my phone ( 2 mounths) and it works perfectly ! Backup/Restore works everytime, you can change the unlock method or just disable the time-out... Easy root mean that the recovery see when you have an un-root ROM and when you choose Restart System will ask you to flash SuperSU ( ex: MIUI Stable ROM ).
I use that recovery and backup and restore works fine for me.
Hmm wait, i remember,i had mounted system partition before i restore my backup, mount system partition is buggy if i want to flash / restore something maybe :/

Hi,
Followed the instructions but every time I try to install it I get the following error (see picture)
I'm on MIUI Global 7.1.1.0 (LHMMICK) Stable.
What am I doing wrong?
The best way is to flash it using SP Flash ! I've flashed it like this and I never loss my TWRP recovery !

But do I have to unzip the file first to get the scatter file in to SP Flash?
I've used this ( 7.0.8.0 fastboot ). I don't know, maybe they are all the same
Use what you want !
* Mi PC Suite (for the drivers)
* ADB Fastboot Tool
* materialized_twrp287_hermes.img
rename it into recovery.img & move it to ADB Fastboot Directory.
Connect your phone
MSDOS :
Change directory to ADB Fastboot directory
adb reboot fastboot
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
disconnect & reboot by press power + vol up.
*] front LED holographic keyboard >> another dream in android.

and this is what TWRP looks like but won't let me pick sd card or otg to install mgisk or no verify
is it possible to install custom roms via fastboot instead of having to go down the stock rom path?
Have you installed the official 32 twrp or the 64 bit twrp? have you formatted user data yet in TWRP? if not do a full wipe then flash ROM, GAPPs and reboot

Stock rom will not boot if you flash TWRP & select to modify system as clearly explained in my twrp thread
All you need to do is select install then select storage on bottom left - select the storage location you have placed your super user zip
If you haven't got one just connect phone to PC whilst in recovery mode & transfer it over
Or
Format system data cache then reboot to recovery & then flash a custom rom
Also your twrp is out of date - I suggest going to my twrp thread unless you flashing the lineageos 15.1 64bit version then you need the twrp from that thread that supports 64bit rom flashing
