Q Rom - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So im with at&t so our latest is 4.4.3.... I currently cant run 4.4.4 because i lack the firmware and im s-on... So where can i find a 4.4.3 base rom? Every thread posted is for 4.4.4 which borks wifi without proper firmware... So im pretty much stuck with having to deal with aosp... Im really sick of the bugs on aosp but if i have to remqin stuck then i guess i havent a choice
EDIT... just realized that i'm on 4.4.2... at&t is starting to fall behind on updates for this m8... looks like ill seriously be sol if i cant get this resolved because i really want to use a stock rom but i can't because they're failing to update this device... when i had the samsung galaxy s5 they made sure they kept that phone updated a lot... this is just ridiculous lmao

You are far from stuck. Pay the $25 to use SunShine S-Off and always have the newest. Simple as that.

Download this. Rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip (the first is a zero not an "o"). Place it on the root of your SD card. Boot into fastboot. Enter hboot. Sit back and let your phone do its thing. Reboot. Profit!
Once you are S-Off, follow these instructions and you will have the latest firmware available for your device.
EDIT: Once you are done, delete the zip from your extSD. Otherwise, every time you enter hboot, the firmware will try to update again.
Also, if you have any problems flashing the firmware, feel free to PM me, and I will help you out.
THIS IS NOT AN INVITATION FOR EVERYONE TO PM ME. Post in the Q&A, and someone; maybe me, maybe someone else; will help you.

Will I need super cid or do I just flash it?

[Q] New Sprint update available to 4.53.651.1 - break root???

Any of you super smart devs tell me if the new update from Sprint broke the new root methods?
I applied it like an idiot, it doesn't fix hardly anything that's wrong. I've given up on Sprint. I want to head off to Cyanogenmod land, but am worried it might be broken now.
Thanks!!!

honestly, why did you do that??i just looked at androidcentral.com and the update doesnt fix anything special..anyway im sure a dev will have a rooted version soon..and just like he said, did it change the hboot?
You should always assume that an OTA update will break root (since it will not have Superuser installed) and that it may NAND Lock your phone (take away your S-OFF). If you want the update just wait around for a short time and a rooted version will appear here.
Well, try using an app that requires root permissions to see if it broke it, like titanium backup.

Hboot version is 2.16.0001
It was not clear from your OP if you had already rooted and then took the OTA or you wanted to know if you could still root your phone.
That is the same Hboot as the previous OTA so you may still be able to root with Revolution if you have not already. If you did already root your phone you need to check to see if you still have S-OFF and a recovery that you can use to get CM loaded.
Boot to recovery (hold Vol - and Power button)
What version of HBoot is it?
Cardinal Rule:
Once rooted, never bother accessing the OTA section of your Sense ROM.
Sorry, I have never rooted and am a complete rooting noob.
[my reason is that I've had blown speakers, cracked screens, etc. and have had 5 different replacements from Sprint and don't want to void my warranty unless I can get it back to make it appear as though I've never rooted]
I did find that this Hboot version still seems to be supported with the new root methods. I have one real quick question, and I have a hard time sifting through the posts, threads, forums.
I want to root, flash a new ROM and want to be able to recover my stock Sprint ROM in case I need to send my phone back for the aforementioned issues. If I follow the root procedures and install Amon_RA's backup and backup the current ROM, I should be able to flash that ROM and get back to S-ON? or would I have to go through some procedure to get back S-ON?
Again, my apologies for posting what's been posted probably 1000 times, you can just link me to a thread....I haven't been successful in my searches for a definitive answer. And the "noob guide" sticky on the forum hasn't been updated to the new root methods, so I'm not sure what will brick me and what is usable.
yes, I will never OTA update after rooting, but in case I want to get back to a stock ROM from Sprint for warranty trade in purposes.
follow up noob question to rooting, all the proper radios and account information will be imported into my phone after flashing a new ROM? Or will I have to know specific radios, PRLs or basebands after I root. It's my primary device so I can't afford to be without.
Damn. Just rooted a few days ago under the assumption Sprint has moved on as far as supporting the EVO.... Dig root but I hope this doesn't create a problem when the update is forced on me.
You can always turn off auto update, and you can also hit cancel if the auto updater pops up. You do not Have to ever update your phone if you dont want to
And if you do decide that you want the update you can wait for a rooted version to appear on XDA and flash that.

*noob alert* Those normally appear in the Development forum, correct? Is there a particular title I should be looking for?
No offense, and I really mean that, but you should not root your phone if you are that worried about the consequences. If you aren't willing to accept that Sprint may be able to tell you rooted you phone then deny you warranty repairs just stick with what you have. Once you get past that point then its time to have some rooting fun.
Seriously though, everyone is going to tell you how great root is, but I bet 60% or better never actually do anything with their phone that would have required root to being with!
But to get back to a factory state, all I'd need to do is flash a Sprint RUU and turn S-ON. I'd assume that's pretty straight forward, I was just curious if anyone here knew the best instructions that were easy to follow.

Using older root methods (pre-Gingerbread), yes. But the new root method for GB/Hboot 2.16 installs a new, non-official hboot - 6.16. No one has been able to get the s-on tool to work or downgrade to a different hboot. You can flash an RUU that will take you back to stock, but you cannot gain s-on. Whether or not Sprint cares about the s-off 6.16 hboot, I don't know. Sprint is supposed to service rooted phones as long as the firmware is stock. If it's not, they'll RUU for you. You may have problems or you may not, kind of depends on who you deal with.
The revolutionary root method is still in a beta phase, what I believe they call a "developer preview" or something. Perhaps once it's released officially there will be an easy way to gain s-on.
I think that if you are worried about rooting or don't know why you would be rooting ("it seems cool" is not a legitimate reason) then you shouldn't do it. But that's just my opinion.

my reason is that I'm sick of Sprint/HTC's flaky software that breaks things like wireless-n, my ability to stream music/contacts with my car stereo over bluetooth, icons constantly disappearing after reboot, Sense rebooting itself, etc. I don't care about its "cool" factor, I want control - its android, right? otherwise I'd just go get an ibone.
Thank you for that update on the 6.16 Hboot change and S-off/on status, its very helpful. Any thoughts on my question of new ROMs will know how to contact the Sprint network with all my information properly, or do I have to do something fancy to that.
I don't know...last month I couldn't root 2 or 3 weeks ago root pops up for GB 2.3.3 I rooted my phone and to tell you the truth I ain't gonna lie I'm still a noob when it comes to rooting...but I think once you try it yo ass ain't never goin back lol cuz I've been on CM7 this whole time and I'm blown away I'm gonna try out vaelpak RC2 tonight when I get home there's just so much you can do...but that's jus my opinion

Pissed Off Desire HD

Hi everybody, I was thinking whether to open new "story" or not and I thought I can do it by myself..but..I did everything I could, I have read hundreds of forums..some things totally confused me and some simply I don't understand..so however I decided to open new thread because I really need professional help here.
Here is the story,
I've bought used HTC DHD before two days with an custom rom android 4.2.2 but WI-FI not worked and also camera not worked very well (when I take a shot phone turns off). i have tried few roms in hope that will fix the problem (PACman v23, CM10.1 and JT 4.2.2 - and still on JT) but nothing. In bootloader says Unlocked but security is damn ON. So, I worked two whole fckin day without success. I have tried many tools, guides etc but it simply won't make S-OFF. Also I've tried to flash to few stock RUU roms to do a downgrade but every time when try I'm getting some errors (140, 150, 170 or even unknown error xD). I really don't know what to do anymore and because I'm pissed off I came here. I love this phone and I won't sell it third day already. I gave last money for this smartphone..I won't money back..I won't new phone..I just want this to be working device. On pic you can see what I already tried..
So please, be patient and take your time to solve this **** together.
Come on guys, I know this can be fixed. I need just little of your time. and thank you very much in advance.
NO idea why you so desperately want S-OFF in the first place as you can flash custom ROMS without it and there is no other way you can fix wifi on software level (so most probably it's a hardware problem), but anyone have access to search in the upper right corner if you wish.
As for the phone shutting down when taking photos, it's a common problem and is thought to be related to aging battery, but you have a great chance of fixing(compensating) it by increasing CPU voltage a couple of notches. Install CPU Master and increase the mV of corresponding maximum frequency used, it should be 1Ghz to look at if not overclocked, try to increse it by 50mV
You are unlocked and still s-on so, as with every one who has issues like yours, you need to flash the boot.IMG via fastboot from the ROM you want to install, after you've installed the rom.
I suggest switching to SVHD by mygamers, every thing works, its super smooth and is great on battery too.
P.s. unless you REALLY really need the advanced functions of s-off, I wouldn't worry to much about it.
"Some" advantages to unlocked bootloader and s-off are:
Flash new Roms direct with out having to flash boot.img
Restore nandroids that are different from current installed rom easier
Flash radios
Change splash screen (you may only see it when you turn on phone, but it can be awesome thing to show off a bit)

First, why do you need S-Off? You can flash ROMs without S-Off, and S-Off won't fix your WiFi problems. It's not clear whether you're successfully flashing ROMs right now, but you can. You do need to flash the ROM zip's boot.img from fastboot each time after you flash s ROM from recovery.
Second, please bump a thread only once every 24 hours per the forum rules.
It's pretty damn clear that he have tried other ROMS.

But he finishes that line with "but nothing." Given the number of "flash the boot.img" posts I've had to write lately, I was wondering if that meant he managed to get them to boot or not.
Sorry guys that I did't mentioned before but mainly what I want to do is to bring back stock rom but I can't..someone said that I need S-OFF for that, I heard that when you flash stock rom can fix wi-fi and camera and then if you want can install new custom rom after. About damaged hardware, everything is possible. I was in service shop and guy there said that hardware is modem in essence that controling wi-fi, GSM, bluetooth and GPS. Maybe I understood him wrong. But my BL and GSM working just fine. I have to try new step-by-step tutorial, I'll be back soon.

You don't need to get S-Off. Just relock your bootloader with fastboot and run the RUU executable from your computer while the phone's connected to it.

OK, let's clear this. Every rom I've tried worked but wi-fi not again, camera is little stable in JT 4.2.2. Only rom that not worked was JT 4.3 beta 3. Installed very well but when it boots it stays on splash screen forever.

Excuse me, but its "pretty damn clear" that only jellybean roms have been tried!
Why are you getting so agro (agrovated for non Aussie readers)) at the mention of trying to use something other than jellybean?

umm if your stuck on splash screen you haven't flashed the kernel. Extract the zip, then place the boot.img into your adb folder. Reboot your phone into hboot then fastboot. Now go to your adb folder type in fastboot flash boot boot.img from cmd.
If that doesn't work to achieve s-off on newer versions of android is 1) Make a goldcard 2) Downgrade with a ruu 3) Get root exploit 4) Get s-off exploit (This was back in 2010 so I don't know if the procedure changed but I s-offed with this. It's probably easier since its 2013:silly
For future reference, Unlocked bootloader means the boot.img is restricted from recovery YOU need to flash kernels via fastboot with Unlocked Bootloader, S-OFF means nothing is restricted apart from splash image, ENG-Soff is engineering mode is same as s-off but with a Eng tag and splash screen is changeable.

First of all there was no any hate nor any of this "agro" of yours lol.
Secondly, none of the mentioned JB ROMS have wifi issues, so there is really no point in wasting time and trying every available ROM.
Cheers and I hope you now got it, we all learn from our mistakes, don't beat yourself up too much.

GS3 model confusion

So my dad bought a GS3 and it shows that it's a t999 model in the settings. It's on UVDMD5 has the UVDMD5 radio as well. I was going to odin flash to the new 4.3 root 66 but it threw out an error. I looked at the phone and in download mode it shows it's a i-747 so I'm super confused right now. I also have an s3 myself and when I remove the battery and check my phone it shows model: sgh-t999 and also shows t999 in download mode as well. On the new phone my dad purchased it shows model: GT-T999 where the battery goes. So yeah I'm pretty confused. I managed to flash the tmo twrp and flashed superuser zip and rooted it sucessfully but I wanted to update it to 4.3 but now I'm not even sure what firmware to flash
Looks like yet another frankenphone. Wish I knew where these things were coming from!
Its hard to tell you what to do, but if it currently had MD5 on there, you probably need to stick with T999 firmware. Well, maybe....
Install terminal emulator and enter this:
getprop ro.bootloader
This will tell you what the firmware is. You cant judge by the rom or baseband.
Anyway, almost every time ive seen these things, the recommendation is usually to see if you can return the device. Theres just too many questions and things that dont match up. If you plan on using it as is, and never care about updates and such, I guess it might be ok, but otherwise theres just too great a chance for future problems!
For starters, there's no such thing as a GT-T999. And If download mode says its an I747, id guess youre using the I747 base firmware/bootloader. However, your system and baseband are from the T999 firmware, so we can be pretty confident that flashing I747 firmware will not work. But you probably can only flash I747 firmware because thats what your bootloader appears to be! Very confusing, very messed up, I know! Its highly possible, judging by the GT-T999, that it might be a chinese knock-off.
It may or may not help, but install Phone Info - Samsung app. Then let me know what it tells you. I dont think theres going to be a lot we can do though, but ill be glad to take a look anyway.

Yes it was super confusing! It's so weird. I did the getprop ro.bootloader and I got I747UCALI5. I'm kinda scared to odin anything since I really have no idea what model I actually have so I just ended up flashing the latest PA rom & so far everything seems fine
Yup, its exactly as I expected! I747 bootloader/base firmware with T999 system and modem. These are not things that should work together and it also means there is no safe way to update your firmware. LI5 sounds like its really old btw. But tbh, I dont know if its even a real build number! I can say you will not be able to run TW kk roms and might not be able to run 4.3 ones as well. CM/aosp, im not sure about, but I know they were known to be really buggy on older firmware.
If it is an option, I strongly suggest seeing if you can get a refund. May I ask where it was bought from? I think whenever we run into these we need to start letting people know not to purchase from those sellers. For one, to protect folks from having this happen to them, but also to try and discourage this type of business practice (if you even want to call it that!). Its almost as bad as people who sell devices and then report them lost!

Just asked my dad & he said he bought it from a pawnshop which isn't surprising why there is so much confusion about the model lol. Would having an old bootloader cause problems? I was able to flash the latest PA beta but I haven't encountered any issues as of yet
I dont use non touchwiz roms, but I do remember they all started requiring certain bootloaders nrcsuse they were encountering too many bugs on older ones. I dont know any details though.
Id imagine youll encounter issues flashing any rom thst has the assert check. It checks to make sure you have a certain bootloader, and most here will be checking for T999 builds. Since yours has the I747 bootloader, it may cause trouble flashing certain roms.
That and you wont be able to easily or safely update the firmware...
Not sure theres much that could be done since it came from a pawn shop though.

Yeah this whole situation has been odd. I'll advise my dad to avoid pawnshops from now on lol. Whenever I was in download mode I noticed the flashcount had shown 3 and I ended up using triangle away to reset it when I was still on 4.1.2 for the moment. Before I rooted it or anything it already had supersu installed but I don't think the phone was actually rooted cause everytime I would open supersu it would tell me to update the binary and it would fail each time and any other root apps I installed were denied root. The phone still had stock recovery as well. I honestly thought it was a t-999 up until I was going to flash the nc2 update and it failed and that's when I realized hey this isn't really a t999. I ended up flashing twrp instead and flashed the supersu zip to get root. I flashed paranoid android afterwards and when I went to about phone i noticed everything changed from t-999 to I747 including the modem. It was weird. I ended up reflashing att twrp just to be safe, I flashed the latest modem from at&t, and I crossed my fingers & bravely flashed a zip that updated my bootloader to the latest one for the I747 and it actually worked which was a huge sigh of relief. I reflashed paranoid android afterwards and so far no issues. Now that I updated everything I might end up just flashing a touchwiz rom from the at&t forums. Thanks for your help though, I greatly appreciate it! :good:

HTC One M8 Updating/custom rom

Android is definitely, for me, one of the hardest to understand when it comes to updating when rooted. Maybe because I just don't do it often.
Carrier is Rogers, v4.4.3 using the Android Revolution HD. Rom v2.22.401.5. Its rooted and s-off.
I saw that the new lollipop update was out and want to update to it. As far as what to do to get that, and still have AR HD and root, well, I don't know where to begin. I've owned an iphone before and jailbraking that was just easy.
However, with an android phone, I'm not quite sure. Rooting it was a challenge, having to go through many posts and then trying to figure out the update I need for the phone based on the carrier I was with, it sucked.
What I need help with, well, I'm just looking for an easy ensure. Maybe a guide if its not that simple. I'm kind of hoping that just by downloading AR HD and installing it that would be it!? Sooo, is it that simple? What would the steps be to updating my HTC One M8 from 4.4.3 to lollipop, while keeping root, and s-off (what ever s-off is again) and then installing AR HD.
My apologies for asking what to me seams like a lot. I just don't know where to begin.
Thank you,
SpaceGold
Edit:
I recall I had to download something... I don't remember what it was. Something to do with fastboot or updating the phone...
Just want to confirm. Downloading AR HD with 5.0.1 and running it, would that do what I want, or do I need to update the phone first?

Thank you,
SpaceGold

Dude.
It's simple.
Download this firmware.
Using a file explorer, rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip (that's a zero, not the letter)
Put it onto the root of your extSD (by root of I mean just on the card, not in a folder)
Get into your bootloader and choose hboot
Follow the prompts (vol up to flash, power button to reboot)
Congratulations! You now have Lollipop firmware.
Be sure to delete that file off of your extSD, otherwise ever time you boot into hboot, it will try to update again.
Now you can flash all the new cool Lolly ROMs.
Edit:
Alright, got it working through bootloader... It did the update but no change. Thank you for your help.
Lol, that does sound easy. Sooo, this would be for all carriers including rogers? And I get to keep root and s-off? And just to add to my ignorance... Bootloader? Thats TWRP?
Why the name 0P6BIMG? I'll name it that, I'm just curious.
Edit:
How do you know what you need to download, there are so many things on this website, how do you know what update is for what... Super confusing
As an example, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51536075#post51536075
I have no idea what to make of all these, they seem like they are for the order updates...

There won't be a change that you will notice. The firmware makes it so that your phone can run a Lollipop based ROM.

Firmware + ROM ??

Hi there ,
I have a brand new at&t HTC M9 . Looking forward to unlocking the boatloader , rooting , getting S-off and flashing a ROM. But there aren't Much Roms to pick ,
So my question is , if I can have different firmwares and a ROM , for example AT&t firmware and ARHD Or Maximus ROM. . As long as the firmware and ROM are the same base (5.1 or 5.0)
With the M8 I had it worked , but this is different phone and most likely works different too .
Thanks for the help
yes it is the same, just to flash the latest firm and then flash whatever custom rom that "must use" the latest firm as well to work properly, you can tottaally do it.
My recomendation is flash by recovery twrp the developer rom 2.8.617.4 and then ober that, flash the firm wwe 2.10.401.1 and then if you want any custom rom that may have the same base wwe 2.10.401.1 thats how i have it working with venom rom.
There's really not much difference in the bases. The 2.x firmwares seem to all work with the various 2.x roms. There were conflicts on some of the 1.x bases and kernels, but I haven't seen that with 2.x.
Before you make the same mistake i did, Know this, s-off now costs 25$ through sunshine app. There is no other way around it. Dont touch your phone if you dont acceptt that, instead OTA to 5.1 then just unlock bootloader, flash recovery and do custom rom.

I was thinking on keeping the at&t firmware which is 2.6.502.16 then flash any ROM

Thanks for the answer , which mistake did you do ,
I'm sure I have to change CID first with S-Off.

That's so good to know .
Even mixing it. The AT&t firmware with the other roms, that's what I did with the M8, the phone was performing great , till it fell in the water ???? . The people from asurion were really nice . That they send me an M9 , which is full of bloatware and it gets really hot , also feels slimmer.
But yeah that's the question , AT&t firmware+any ROM, is it possible to do in this phone too

I've only run a couple of roms, but I've never heard of any conflicts of that nature. I have run AT&T, Dev Ed, and WWE firmware interchangeably with ARHD.
I wasn't expecting s-off to cost cuz it was free on the M7, so I found that out after boot loader unlock and custom recovery, also going back to stock for OTA was impossible after unlock and recovery. I was hitting one roadblock after another. In the end I gave in and paid for s-off even though I would have not needed to if I had just OTA FIRST

That part I don't have an issue paying the 25$ , HTC has put more security into the phones , the people who made devoted time to it , the user the only thing that has to do is just run the app. That's great app.
But yeah I'm happy I'll be able to increase the network speed and take all the at&t crap out
I'm curious why did you need it to go back to stock

That's great to hear , that's what I'm thinking on doing too, with the at&t firmware the phone has with ARHD also adding xpose to it too
Question , does your phone over heats a lot ,or that's only with the stock ROMs

I needed to go back to stock to take the OTA, i dont need to have S-off as i dont flash firmwares and kernels etc, it doesn't serve any purpose to me. Taking the OTA would update the firmware and radio etc on its own, which makes s-off pointless for me.
With the stock firmware that came out of the box, the phone would get very hot, not enough to hurt my hand, but enough that it may hurt the internals on the phone, mostly the battery was a worry to me. After 2.10 the phone gets warm during heavy use, but never hot, although i have noticed that the battery drains quiet fast when compared to my m7.

It does sometimes stop charging because it's overheating. Beyond that, the only time it gets really hot is after flashing when it's optimizing apps. I put it on a cold pack for that.

I was reading with the new recovery TWRP the Option to receive OTAs can be add it ,
I'll have to read more into to it
http://www.teamw.in/site/update/2015/06/22/twrp-2.8.7.0-released.html
That might help you
Now that the phone is completely stock , it gets really hot .
