After searching for a soft silicone type case and only finding one cheap $5 on the bay...I came across what I thought was something possibly softer and has more grip than the typical TPU cases out there. I didnt want an expensive O-box type or one that adds so much bulk. I was only looking for something with moderate protection but soft and very gripping like silicone rubber.
I saw this YouTube vid on the Body Glove Satin case and it looked like it was softer and yet offered decent protection, so I was excited to get it for a few reasons.
1. it reshapes the bottom of the phone so it lays flat
2. has cut outs for the volume and power key making it easier to find and use quickly compared to covered ones
3. may be softer than the million other TPU type cases
But now after getting it......it failed in the one area of being at all close to anything soft or silicone. It is pretty much the same TPU type material as the million others out there. Though it has that etched/molded "satin finish" lines on the back, they only provide slight help in grip as the material is slippery anyway like the other TPU cases. It is nice that the molded cut lines on the side give it some decent feel and slightly better grip than a smooth TPU case.
The cut outs:
-All the cut outs are slightly larger than the few other cases I have seen in general.
-Charge port cut out is not at all restrictive to any of the many plugs I use.
- Headphone hole is plenty big enough to work with several different sized headset plugs I have.
-Mic holes are larger than the exit holes on the phone which allow sound to travel easy into phone.
- Power and volume cut outs are also wide as well. The opening off the bottom of the keys is done so
your fingers can rest and or quickly adjust as needed. It is also easy to do in the dark or not looking at the keys.
- Speaker and the Camera cut outs are perfect and not too big or too small, very well done.
As mentioned one of the aspects I like very much with this case is that you can rest the phone on its back and it does not rock or move around when you use the touch screen.
The lip of the case over the top of the screen is not tall, maybe 1-1.5mm above the screen. It also does not hang deep into the screen off the sides which would limit any swiping ability from any side of the screen.
Over all I like the case a lot, I just wish it was closer to being a softer silicone type material for grip in the hand as well as its grip on things like car seats, my counsel above the shift lever (that fake wood laminate) that i often set it on to use GPS while driving, and any other surface it may be knocked off accidentally like tables and such.

The BG satin case weighs 31gm. My Moto G is 151gm.
nefescalanadam send me a pm as well. Im still looking for possible alternatives.
Is that case only soft grip around the side bumper? What is the material like on the black back side?
I'll just post what nefescalanadam sent.

I picked up the Case-Mate Tough and wanted to put in a short review.
The case is great. It is built really well and is definetly an upgrade or equal to other available cases. FYI, I own the Seidio Innocase II and Rugged models.
Innocase II was great for 2 weeks and then stretched out and became unusable
Rugged was an upgrade but too bulky
The Case-Mate fits 95% perfectly. I'm OCD and rarely notice seams between the shell and the skin - if there were any noticeable fit problems I would toss the case. I give it a 95% because the volume buttons are hard to press. The power button has actually become easier to press with the rubber button.
The only downside I can think on this case is it adds more bulk than a one-piece case and the shell is a little too tacky and makes the phone hard to get out of my pocket sometimes.
I realize this is the most poorly written review ever, but I wanted to get it out there in case anyone is looking at the Case-mate. I have probably had this case longer than anyone that doesn't work at Case-Mate and it definitely looks like a reliable and well built keeper.

Indeed we can see the website pictures, but people like to see the realistic pictures of how it arrived when you reviewed it. kind of like how McDonald's shows pictures of perfect hamburgers on their menu but when you get it, it looks like a turd between two over-cooked pieces of bread.

LOL, I have a question, is the back a soft gel type or like a TPU?
I got one of these Tough Cases for my wife's iPhone 4 and she loves it. While this case is different then the iPhone 4 case its the best one I've seen to date (we have about 60 Evo's here and just about every case is being used by someone).
Yes it does add a bit of bulk but it's nothing you don't get used to right away. It's nice b/c it makes the camera lens recessed so no issues laying it flat on its back. It's a two piece deal where you put on the soft jelly like cover on first then the hard (it's not a metal type of hard so keep that in mind) cover goes on in the back. The hard cover does not offer complete protection of the top and bottom (just the corners).
The case feels very solid and it is not slippery you feel like you have a good grip without it being "clingy" to other materials. It's very easy to get on an off and the only thing you need to be mindful of is the volume up/down button. If you don't take some care it can get pinched into the slot in the hard case part.
One complaint I have about most cases is that they still allow way too much dust and crap to get into the case at the point of contact areas. This case does still allow some to get in but I'm very impressed b/c of all the cases I've compared this to it keeps the most dust/grime out (a GREAT way to see this is to put phones with different cases in a womens purse for a month! this should be a standard test).
Anyway I've very happy with the case and I'm seeing a slow but steady attrition from users of other cases going out and buying these.
Still a great case
Reason I pointed to the case-mate site for pics is because they really do have good pics/video of the case.
Unlike McDonalds, you are getting exactly what you see in the pics. The case design is well thought out and the fit is perfect. Other than a little bit of difficulty in pressing the volume buttons there are no problems in design. Access to ports is good, stand is easy to get to and balances well, and the power button is much easier to press. To be honest, the only time I have difficulty with the volume buttons is when I am in recovery mode and need to click around a lot.
PS- Its nice that they include a screen protector, but I don't think that it should effect your purchase. In my experience you need to have a couple of static protectors available if you want a good chance at a successful install. It is just too easy to mess up the install with a dust particle or something and only including one in the package is kinda asking for disgruntled customers.

Good trade!
Today i received the case and again i want so share some thoughts about it.
(let me say it right here: this is the best case ive seen so far and i can recommend it to everyone that is searching for a very slim case with considerable protection)
ORDER
i ordered the case from Obostore. it took 7 days for shipping...quite good for free international shipping. they also give discount if you order several pieces.
MATERIAL
i expected some regular plastic case but actually it is something i would describe as rubberized plastic.
makes the phone definitively way less slippery.
as far as i can tell it doesn't attract dust.
FIT
it fits perfectly and the cutouts on the side are made well. the phone fits very tight and doesn't move in the case (like in the zenus skin air jacket i reviewed some pages ago)
PROTECTION
if you are searching for an everyday-protection against scratches and some little drops this case should be your choice.
as you can see on the pictures the top and bottom of the phone are not covered by the plastic.
but that doesn't bother me because (unlike the samsung mesh-case) it fully covers the corners of the phone.
so if it drops on flat ground it will be fully protected. (not from great hight of course)
quite hard to explain but i tried to show it to you in the pictures below.
i tilted the phone to 45° and then take a shot that is showing that there is still some space between phone and surface (light coming through).
the camera is also covered very good so no scratches should get on it.
SCREEN PROTECTOR
the case came with a free screen protector from nillkin. i don't have any reference but i think its pretty good.
(although i messed it up by having a little airbubble in the down right corner. my fault.... )
CONCLUSION
this is by far the best case i have seen or used so far.
sure there are some cases with better protection but in my opinion they often add too much bulk and mess with the great look an slimness of the phone.
so i can fully recommend this case to you!
(if you liked this review please show by hitting the thanks-button)
(and sorry again for the bad picture-quality )

I also have one, and am very happy with it, but they seem to have a minor design flaw.
Doesn't really affect the usability of the case, hell, I didn't even notice it until someone on another forum pointed it out, and I doubt I ever would have if they hadn't.
what flaw are you talking about?
(although it may be better if you never tell me )
1 of the sides did not flush well with the phone when facing up.
Looks like the cutting is slightly off will gradual abscess from top going to the bottom.
Its pretty obvious if u see it at an angle.
Only seems to be an issue with the black case
The white one I got seems to fit fine
Sorry, photos aren't very clear

I also have the one in OP but chose red instead of black. I have to say it's pretty awesome. The color looks classy and the case fits just fine.
I like the rubberized texture. Without it, I always felt like the phone was going to slip right off my hand. Now not so much. Plus it almost doesn't add any thickness (I'd say around 1.5 mm at most).
Very happy.
Be careful with unprotective cases, barely there cases and only rear protecting cases

Here it is the white one, after few weeks of usage.
h t t p://imgur.com/a/LnGKp - sorry i can't post links yet (new user)
I have the phone for 2 montsh now, but i have 2 other type of case and using a different one all the time. The first 2 week was fine, no coloration at all, but at the 3rd week the brown coloration happened, which was my pocket. And the funny part is, i am carrying it in my pocket for 40min each (work)day.
The way i imagine this case:
- hard plastic
- soft touch overlay
- some thin protecting layer
No coloration in the first few weeks, but after the ""protecting layer"" wear down, the case started picking up everything. I tried to clean it, no luck.
Lastly, i really don't know what are those pink spots, or where do they came from. (It's not the camera )
I've one of these cases too.
The first thing I did was to use my fingernail to scratch away the NILLKIN words. Took me just 2 min, and I had a perfectly blank back for the case.
How good it fits to the phone? Does this case scratch the phone?
Thanks!
There are many hard cases on the market and most feel like hard plastic shells. This case actually feels like rubber with the stiffness of plastic. It just feels like quality. It also manages to come about 1/4 of an inch further on the bottom and top to cover more area. The cutouts around the power and volume rockers are recessed which make a world of difference when pushing the already almost flush buttons. It also give extremely good grip. I dropped my first galaxy s3 with a casemate on it and that case didn't have any bottom or top protection and my phone suffered. I posted a picture of the damage and the casemate. If it were in the rearth it would have survived without a scratch. I can't say enough how good this case feels in the hand. Its a really slick phone and it needs a grippy case.

Glad to hear a good review. I ordered one of these for my preordered S3.:fingers-crossed:
I ordered this, the casemate barely there, the Nilkin hard case, and I bought an Affinity smoke glass hardshell from Bestbuy that I was planning to return once I got one of the cases I ordered but boy does it look nice. I might keep it. It looks gorgeous.
Is there any angle that would hit the bottom or top edge if you dropped it? like facing 45 degrees forward?

No there isn't unless it falls on a squared edge. Plus the rubbery coating gives extra protection.
if i ever buy a hardcase for my galaxy it will be this one.
glad to hear it works well.
Wow. After this case came, on the website they are giving away lanyard strap with it.......
could you post some pics of the phone with the case on it?

Had the Slim on my SII and my Note. Absolutely loved them.
If I had a III this would be the case for me without a doubt.
It's a shame that they don't have any plans to release one for the One X.

I could but they wouldn't do any justice to the pics on the rearth website.
I bought one of these for my Note. For the $30 I paid for it, I expected more. Why they don't make the plastic go all the way around the bezel is beyond me. I will pass on this one for the S3.
I think it would be fragile, that the reason no cases manufacturer makes a case like this with the bottom and the top covered.
Just ordered mine, thanks for the recommendation.
It took me a while though as I could not find a slime case!

i think it's the size of the phone. large, but thin, that makes me feel like it will not take a fall very gracefully. fingers crossed until the case arrives.
oh also, in case anyone is having problems googling the case... it's Rearth Ringke Slim (the OP is missing a "g" and added the "e" in slime LOL)
This is an advertisement, not a review.
Got my Ringke Slim the other day. Similar to my Galaxy Nexus one, except it doesn't protect the top and bottom and it doesn't come with a screen protector or rubber port protectors. Overall I love it though, very thin. But after receiving my ROCK case, I'll probably use that more often. If you're looking for something that will make it look like you don't have a case on it, this is it.
I just saw this case on eBay and was wondering if anyone has tried it (or heard of DZ-Tech before?)

I bought one because it's cheap enough and it has a kickstand. Really unsure about the material and fit, and it takes a couple weeks to ship to Canada. But I'll post pics/comments when I get it. Hopefully it fits perfectly.
The only thing I want from a case is that it's relatively easy to take off (without scratching or marking the phone) - and the buttons should have a little feedback when pressed with the case.
I have one of those on my Active S4. I like it a lot. Build quality is great, fit is perfect, I have no complaints. I just think it's really ugly.

Good to know. I agree this case is one of the more bulkier around, but the rugged look reminds me of an Otterbox (in a good way).
I haven't found any pictures of that case with the N5 inside, so I guess I'll find out soon!

The case I have for my S4 Active is just as solid as any Otterbox I've ever owned. Actually, I've had a couple of bad experiences with Otterbox cases...to clarify, I like bulky cases, I just don't like the design on the back of this one, but that's just my personal preference, I still use it daily. I care more about function.
I received the above case. Mostly favorable impressions so far. It took a whopping 14 business days to get from California to Montreal/Canada, but I'm quite happy with it. Took many pictures of it and a review on Google+.
Price: $10 + free shipping on eBay
Design: It comes in two parts, an inner skin made of soft silicone and an outer hard shell made of plastic. Both parts can be separated and assembly/disassembly is easy and quick. The inner layer is flexible, it absorbs shocks and feels a lot like the soft-touch texture of the Nexus 5. The outer layer is rigid and holds everything together. Once you slap on the hard shell, the Nexus 5 fits snugly and won't come out easily. The phone is also completely encased in the soft material, so there is no contact with a hard plastic. This means your device won't get marked from within after an impact. The screen is also completely surrounded by silicone and the bumper is raised by a generous 2mm all around - slightly more than the Cruzerlite A2 case. The bumper will also easily accommodate a screen protector (I don't use one personally).
Colors: The inner skin comes in black, white, blue, pink, purple or red. The outer shell comes in black, blue or pink. I went for a simple black/black case.
Cut-outs: There are cut-outs for the camera/flash, charging port, speakers, headset and microphone. They are perfectly centered and don't cause interference. The headset hole is also large enough to accommodate all kinds of 3.5mm audio cords (unlike some other TPU cases that can't work with larger audio plugs).
Buttons: Unlike the Cruzerlite, there are no cut-outs for the buttons. No separate built-in buttons either (like the Spigen). Instead, they are fully covered by soft silicone material. This will be a plus for some people, a negative for others. For me it's a plus. With this case, you lose the ceramic feel in favor of soft-touch (which I like). More importantly though, the buttons retain their normal feedback when pressed. This is something that the official Nexus 5 bumper is criticized for (where buttons will sometimes respond without any feedback). On this case, the fit is excellent and there's no accidental press. The volume button is also marked with individual +/- parts.
Kickstand: The built-in kickstand sits flush with the case when not in use, so it doesn't get in the way. To use it, you lift, slide and lock in place. The Nexus 5 can be positioned in both portrait and landscape modes. The angle is just right. However, the plastic hinge feels a bit fragile/flimsy; something you might easily break if you're not careful. Still, it's a nice bonus compared to some other cases.
Overall: Nicer than I expected for the price. I give it an A- or 4/5. It does add more heft than the official bumper, Cruzerlite or Spigen Neo Hybrid. But for its size, it's relatively light, dual-layer and actually doesn't look too bulky from the front like an Otterbox. It takes a few extra seconds to slap on compared to a bumper, but significantly easier to take out than a Spigen Neo Hybrid. I absolutely like the soft touch buttons. They are fitted perfectly and preserve 100% feedback when pressed with no accidental push (crucial for me). I'm surprised that some cases cost 3x as much, yet don't pay attention to this detail. All four corners are protected by silicone. The kickstand is a nice bonus. The hard shell on the back doesn't attrack fingerprints as badly as I thought. I just wish it had a more premium/textured finish to closely match the Nexus 5. Though for $10 + free shipping on eBay, it's hard to complain. If you're looking for an all around / good value case, I would really consider it. It makes for a nice 'Christmas stocking' gift.

I initially looked at the flip case, but having had a go with a friends, I didn`t like the `flip` when making a call.
I started looking round for alternatives and spotter the Amzer Pudding TPU case.
I wanted something with protection all the way round the phone. I`ve seen several where the corners are exposed. Dropping it on a corner is something I had with an old phone and it immediately cracked the glass, so a fully enclosed cover was top of the list.
This has a `rubberised` texture and in use, it certainly feels grippy. The edges are sticky enough so you won`t drop it easily, but not so bad that you can`t get it in and out of your pocket without it `grabbing` the material. :good:
For £6.50 delivered, I really can`t complain. :good:

Neat cutout for the headphone
Camera & Speaker cutouts
Power and Volume controls are covered, but they are easy to use and I haven`t struggled to press the buttons at all.
By how much does the thickness increase..
i know its too much to ask but if u ever remove the case can u post pictures of case and bare mobile side by side
btw i have never used a tpu case..its is rubbery flexible or plasticky...i have heard that its a combination of both

But a drop of more than 2-3 feet would probably still break the phone. To get better protection, one should have a case with thick rubber bumpers on the corners like the Trident or Ballistic case. But of course, it wouldn't be as pocket friendly.
I have this case and dislike it. It adds too much thickness for me, but about what you can expect from a TPU case. I buy cases for scratch protection rather than drop protection. I hate the glossy bezel and just wish they had that same back finish for the entire case. The finish of the back is nice since it doesn't pick up fingerprints. The last thing I can't stand is how small the usb connector cutout is. This can probably be fixed with a knife, but it still shouldn't come like that.
is it sturdy material or flexible that it can be like silicon cover in the ease of putting/removing the phone from it?
It is not terribly difficult to put this case on or remove it. One of the best features of this case for me is the matte back section which greatly improves grip and the button molds in the side.

Every time I use a heavy-duty case though I end up removing it after a few months and using a less-protective one because of the bulk, tpu cases seem like an "OK" compromise (or at least I hope).
I've been eyeing the Cruzerlite bugroid ones since watching this IRL drop test (nexus 5) video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KY9Svj9fYVg but the Amzer one reviewed here looks very nice :good:
isit a good alternative for the gripshell?
I need a bumper what do you suggest?
It does provide good protection but makes the device look dull. I guess I'll have to buy something else for my wife.

This was the only tpu case available when the phone first launched online. It is a durable case with good protection, not too bulky. Offers good grip. Overall 7.5/10.
After much ado I finally decided on this case, bought it, received it, liked it at first. Then I had it in my pocket for a day at work.
Took my phone out of my pocket and the screen was covered in little waves of dust. And it had gathered up around the edges. Even had a small piece of plaster or something sticking to the screen.
I work in a dusty environment but this is ridiculous. I didn't have problems with my 3GS or Lumia, and though the bareback Moto G's screen seemed to attract a little more dust than those... This case is a DUST MAGNET.
I wish someone would have mentioned that in any of the dozens and dozens of reviews I'd gone over.
