if your device still v4.4.2 (.230) you can easly one click root with towelroot then install superSU. here u can get towelroot apk.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2791374
after 'make it rain' download superSU from playstore.
boom...! ur device rooted..?
i can't help if you already upgrade to the latest version. because im stuck here. hehe.
but here to root v4.4.4 (.283) -using flashtool(pc)
http://soleheen.com/2014/09/cara-root-xperia-zl-android-4-4-4-kit-kat-firmware-283.html
just download flashtool, .230 kernel, .283 kernel and easyroot tool if you can't understand malay, then use this ? for instuction. (do not download kernel from here)

CWM and Root or Root and CWM

Hi, i own a Xperia Play since 3 days.
Normaly it is no problem for me to root my older devices and put cwm on it.
But the Xperia Play makes me angry...
I managed without problems to unlock the bootloader.
Than i installed .42. There i could root the phone and put cwm on it but when i installed a custom rom, the device stuck on "sony ericsson" bootlogo, so i need to install stock .42 again. (i rooted with superoneclick and flashtool) CWM was installed by the cwm app and "cwm-install" from the forum.
No methode works for me to install a custom rom.
Now i installed .62 tft on the device because with .42 didnt worked for me.
But now i couldn't install root(superoneclick or flashtool doesn't work). So i couldn't install a cwm.
Could you help me ? I read a lot of threads, but couldn't find an answere.
I read something with kernel, but kernels are normaly installed by customrom itself or manualy after installing rom, i am right=!
I hope you could help me, because i want a fast device.
Best regards bikerboy-030

.62 firmware is unrootable by normal methods, therefore you have to use a pre-rooted rom/kernel to have root and CWM
thanks for the fast answer!!!
Thx a lot, now i know, that i do not need to test it with this rom any more
Does an pre rootet stock rom exist, that i can install with flashtool?
So that i can install cwm over the new app? That would be awesome

Try DooMKernel. Pre-rooted and comes with CWM.
BTW there is only pre-rooted kernel, not rom. My mistake

can you please tell me how do you flash the kernel when the phone is not rooted?
I am in the the situation but couldn't work out how to flash new kernel.
thanks!
edit: finally figured out that I need to unlock bootloader first. strange that I didn't need to do that for my first root.

[Q] Help rooting android 2.3.3 Xperia Play r800at

Hello, I am new to these forums but have looked through (to the best of my ability) and have not found the solution to my problem. That problem is that I want to root my AT&T Sony Ericsson Xperia Play r800at (android v. 2.3.3).
I had it previously rooted using the Zergrush method (was still on 2.3.3) and it worked just fine, then about a month ago (perhaps half a month) my phone automatically updated itself via the software update function. Now I cannot get root back using the Zergrush method. I also tried the SuperOneclick method to which it hangs on step #7 and I am at a loss.
What information do you need about my phone to help in figuring out any possible solution?
Thank you for your assistance and I look forward to any replies.
Have you tried with DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit?
PD: If the phone updated after November 2011 it seems you can't use zergRush, try with Flashtool

Indeed I have, that was the Zergrush method I mentioned previously. Thanks for asking.
I'm new with this but I think that your only solution is unlocking the bootloader and flashing a custom kernel & rom

If I were to use Flashtool, what kernel would I need and do I absolutely need to unlock the bootloader in order to flash said kernel? Also, is there way to relock the bootloader (with original files intact) just in case I need to return the phone to AT&T repairs/maintenance or anything?
Ok, I've searched a bit more, seems thath you DON'T need to unlock your bootloader, just need to flash a firmware build that can be exploited by zergRush method.
I've searched and I found this (I haven't tried it)
1. Download flashtools
2. Download the .270 build Xperia_Play_3.0.1.B.0.270_ATT.rar
3. Flash the older build
4. Use flashtools to root
And you should get root acces

Oooohhh... My eyes flashed at that one!! I will try and get back to you as soon as possible!
Fingers crossed!
Good luck!
When you finish (sucessfuly I hope), if you want to unroot just update the phone with PC Companion

Yep that will work. Once rooted you can update to the latest AT&T build which is .285 but you must do it OTA. If you update through your computer it will remove the root.

He was talking about the carrier branded rom from AT&T which is his cellular provider. OTA means over the air. Basically doing the whole update process through the phone.

Thank you =)
Dude, it totally worked!! Not a single hiccup anywhere whatsoever!!! Thank you so much!!! :highfive:
Since you were talking about OTA updating and such: If I were to root and then update to the latest build OTA is it still possible to unroot using the flashtool or whatever was used to gain root? The reason I ask this is should AT&T ever need to look at my phone...
I think that the answer is yes, just update the phone with pc companion, also you can flash again .270 firmware and the phone should get unrooted

Awesome, and is there anything else I should be aware of? After all I am flashing things *wink wink*
As far i know, if you want to try any room, make sure that is compatible for locked bootloaders (you phone have a locked bootloader) and for you mobile phone type , follow the instructions carefuly and if you don't understand something, ask Oh, and don't try to flash a custom kernel (like DoomKernel) with a locked bootloader beacause you will brick your phone.
That's all I can tell you
if you downgrade will you lose your files?
thanks Mercado for the mirror sight for SOC 2.3.3
Hi Mercado: Thanks for posting the updated SOC Version sight. I tried using SOC 2.1.1 on my FREELANDER SXZ-PDX0-03 tablet witout success.

Xperia Play dont want to be rooted

so... this is my second problem today, the first one was with the FTS, but no its woking~
The problem is the Root. Yeah, the root...
I have tried to root my device using this and others FTS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43935357&postcount=2
but dont know why, if i use, for example R800i_4.0.2.A.0.69_World.ftf or R800i_4.0.2.A.0.79.ftf, my device dont accept the root...
BUT, if i use :R800i_4.0.A.2.368_World and other lower version, he accept... anyone know what to do? i'm trying to use DoomLords root, tried every version... help, again!
EDIT: now that i have tihnk for a time... the stock rom that came with the xperia play, acepted the root, so, its 2.3.2? the only problem is that i dont remember some stuffs in the 2.3.2, so i thin it is only 2.3.3 that came with the xperia play whe i buy it...
Already solved the problem.
You can only root devices from 2.3.2 down...
The strange is that I tthink may xperia play came with 2.3.4 and I rooted it before it bricks in boot loop...

you can root 2.3.4 until version 58 (enhanced v3) with locked bootloader. just flash the ftf, boot, enable usb-debugging and mass storage device (instead of mtp at usb-connection) and root it via flashtool.
otherwise unlock your bootloader and install a superuser application in any rom you want. flash the latest firmware (.79), flash custom kernel, install supersu or superuser via cwm and you got the newest firmware rooted.

Towel root. Rooting won't erase anything from your phone
Towel works great but not if you've already upgraded to 4.4.4.
i upgraded to android 4.4.4 and i want to root my phone
how do i do that?

Is your bootloaded locked, or unlocked? For LOCKED bootloader, I used the following procedure multiple times with no problems (I don't see why it wouldn't work for unlocked bootloader, but I haven't tried it):
1. Flash .230 kernel using FlashTool (basically, you are temporarily downgrading your kernel).
2. Root your phone using newroot.
3. Flash either .283 or .292 kernel (whichever 4.4.4 build you are on) using FlashTool.
4. (optional) Flash a custom recovery (I use XZDualRecovery by [NUT]
You will need kernels to flash in steps #1 and #3 - either search for FTF files to download, or create FTFs yourself using XperiFirm checker/downloaded and FlashTool. The procedure for creating FTF is described in XperiFirm thread.
There may be other ways; I am only telling you what I tried myself, and know 100% that it works...
i have unlocked bootloader
can i root without flashing a new rom? just a kernal

The way I understand it, the method I described should also work for unlocked BL.
Of course, you don't need to flash a new ROM -- just a kernel. That's exactly what I said... First, downgrade your existing kernel for rooting, and then, after the rooting is done, flash the proper kernel back.
I wanna root my phone , with locked bl. May I know which website to follow??

1) First go unlock your Bootloader Here ( Official Sony Website )
2) Download the Latest SuperSU Zip File
3) Download any Custom Kernel ( For Lollipop Of Course ) found in the Android Development Section, or you can use the boot.img kernel found in any CM 12 Rom
4) Flash the kernel on your Z1 Compact via Flashtool and enter recovery and flash the Latest SuperSU Zip File.
5) DO NOT REBOOT! Power Down and open Flashtool
6) Select the .270 FW and Uncheck All Except Kernel and FOTA ( Uncheck Final Verification ) here we reflash the stock kernel since using the CM kernel on Stock ROM would cause a bootloop
7) Flash and reboot
or
Install Kingroot on your Computer, root your phone and once your phone receives root access install NUT's Dual Recovery, after which uninstall the Kingroot Superuser app and use SuperSU instead since its less buggy and more stable.
With the first method, once your bootloader is unlocked it is very easy to root your device even when Sony updates it. Personally I used the first method to root my phone
Does the second method unlock my bootloader?
