Guys i'm not sure if that is actually lagg or so but i'm frequently having some slow effects when i'm opening/closing the app menu. It's not happening always but it's doing it quite a lot. It's like dropping the fps when closing the app menu and it's driving me crazy... Any ideas what it could be ? . I did a soft reset but fully restored my settings from a backup and the problem still remains.
Not enough info:
Stock or modded? If modded, what ROM, any other mods, like overclock, undervolt, etc.
If stock, what software version?
I saw another complaint from one other use about lag when closing the app drawer. Not every time, just sometimes. And stock device. I have to say, I'm a bit surprised as this device is very snappy. But I haven't been on a stock ROM since the first day I bought the phone.
Also, this should be in the Q&A forum section. I've reported to the mods to move the thread.

I (still) love my Desire, unfortunately after two weeks of usage or so the screen starts annoying me! Any live wallpaper is unusable due choppy home screen scrolling and some menus like "All Apps" or "Customize" become very slow at the bottom. At first I thought it was problem of custom ROM, but this is happening even on stock ROM, so it's probably a HW problem (GPU maybe?).
Can someone help me?
Thanks.
HW problem? Don't think so. However, can be, but it's not likely.
I suggest to try a different kernel and if that not helps do a full wipe & reflash.
I see, that we use the same radio & kernel (except that I'm on LeeDroid) - but i never experienced that slowdowns.
Nah, coutts, CM, HTC, ziggy... All the same.
Try changing your governor
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Maybe a ram thing .... i use (i know not all think this is good but) a taskmanager with a auto close apps widget
with kind regards...Alex
Still the same and I have plenty of free RAM.
If your device can still play 3d intensive games without slow downs or errors then I doubt it's a hardware problem. So...Does it play games properly?
Recommend such game that is OK on your Desire, so we can compare.
Try nenamark (1.5 free in the market). I get 20.9 FPS with the stuff in my signature. So if you get more than 15 then I think it won't be a hardware problem.
Also I noticed the lag when something is installing. So can be the a2sd+ slowing down your phone.
It can't be due A2SD (read OP).
Btw, I got 18,6 FPS.
Hmm, then the gpu/cpu seems to be fine. Must be a software error.
But what SW? Every ROM and every kernel behave in the same way.
That's what I try to figure out. So if you do a full wipe & changing ROM - Lag remains.
Changing kernel - lag remains.
Seriously, I have no idea. Usually a full wipe & reflash helps (ROM+kernel).
Can't it be the radio?
Can't be, this problem started in virgin stock ROM (I have copyright on that ).
Have you tried aosp roms its probaly a HTC sense issue
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
AOSP ROMs have the same issue.
maybe your NAND got corrupted in some way?
maybe after you install new ROM try not to restore your previous apps or system setting with neither titanium backup or mybackup, whichever you use.
however,i would assume you tried that already.
also you could try going back to stock ROM and or even HD rom which fits on NAND and try booting without SD card which maybe trying to read something and it cant.
so was your phone branded?
and when did you noticed this performance issue?
Unbraded. And I noticed it during using stock ROM.
Don't know if its just imagination but i think my desire has also gotten more laggy lately.
My phone has definitely slowed down LWPs are pretty much unusable & Sense always slows right down at the bottom of some menus, including the app drawer.
Hi all,
This is my first post here.
I have flashed the InsertCoin stable ROM 03/06 and I have to say it's great (despite the video playback bug). Recently I found another issue that bothers me a lot.
The problem I found is that the ROM seems to be killing non-active apps too aggressively. I learnt if I press "home" button in an active app, it should stay for a while until it is killed to free up memory. However, in my phone, the non-active apps are always killed within one minute even when the phone isn't running out of memory. Why it is an issue to me? Because:
1) It is killing the browser too fast. Usually I switched to other app, do some work, and back to the browser. Since the browser is killed it has to reload the whole page to restore the state. This wastes time and data.
2) Most importantly It is killing my music app!! I tried fire up HTC's music app, select a song, tap to play, leave the app and do other things like web surfing. The music app would surely be killed in a minute. This happens to other music playing app like Winamp.
This makes my phone a relatively single tasking one. I didn't install any 3rd party task killer because I never needed one. But I cannot find any settings regarding this "feature" on my phone.
I found people in this forum seeking help on how to kill some background apps. What I want is the opposite: How to prevent some background apps to be killed.
Anyone here has similar problem and has found a solution?
Thanks in advance!
on 1.0.8 i had no problems
on v45 (which is last 2D Rose version) you need to flash pre46test.zip in order to fix agressive app killing.
other than that i never heard of any complaints regarding apps being killed too quickly.
Thanks, dzumagos. Yes I am running 1.0.8 and unfortunately this happens on my phone
Maybe I'll try flashing the nightly version (v51) to see if things improve.
Whatever you do, don't use task managers and other memory scripts. Every developer makes his own memory parameters which suit his rom the best, so I think you are best off pointing baadnwz to this issue and see what he says.

The ROM has HTC's ROM manager built in, and I didn't have any installed by myself. AFAIK the only difference between the Stable and Nightly version is the Rosie 3D homescreen that is missing in the Stable version, so I flashed 1.0.9 and unfortunately the problem persists.
And looks like I'm not eligible to ask on the development thread
Hi all,
I'd usually always had average speeds in scrolling through menus etc. on my Arc S. Then I installed Nova Launcher a few months ago which made it lightning fast!
But recently, it's become painfully slow to the point of being unusable. I've installed several new games and apps lately, and I know that I could uninstall them one by one and see if that's causing the problem, but I'd rather not go through that and lose my data - especially if the cause is something else.
Is there a menu option somewhere that shows me what all the processing power is being spent on? In a similar way to the battery drain screen? I also notice that my Arc S will start chugging, and stutter several times, whenever I'm playing games. It'll have every minute or two, stutter around three times for about five seconds, then go back to normal.
But menu screens are painfully slow. Does any have any ideas? Is there a cache I can clear too? I'm rooted and on the latest ICS ROM.
Thanks in advance,
schnide

Itll be best for you to install a custom rom stripped of all bloatware (the useless programs that use up all tie processing power) and with speed tweaks apps such as "root cleaner" and "seeder" are also very useful apps to speed up your phone good luck!

It runs ok for some time...and then becomes slow like other ics rom...quite sure of what I'm saying ! I've tryed a lot of ics rom( From August 2012 until today some day ago! xD)...I'm not saying that your rom is ****...but the best rom for the Arc's hardware is GingerBread....
Try CM10. Your quadrant and AnTuTu scores will falter but don't let that bother you. It made my phone much more usable and not to mention quicker! Make sure you OC your Arc to 1.6Ghz and turn on 16bit transparency.
The thing I do, use titanium backup to backup everything then factory reset...thereafter it may feel faster n new

Don't OC. Unless you want to get rid of the phone ASAP.
Thanks for all the suggestions - I actually went through all the apps I'd installed lately and removed a few to see if it would help. Strangely, it was Canabalt HD which seemed to be causing the problems. I uninstalled it, and it's back to normal. I reinstalled it again to see if it would slow down, and it did.
I think that game uses OpenFeint, so I don't know if that's anything to do with it. I may install CM at some point but right now I'm happy with the latest, rooted stock (and besides, I can upgrade in two months and might get the Xperia Z).
Thanks again!
Mine's been overclocked to 1.6Ghz for a year now and I haven't faced any issues so far.
Hi. I'm actually on pa.2.55. Going to 3.69 but can't seem to find the latest gapps for it. pa_d2att.

Hi there,
Was hoping to get a response from Ayysir or Gideonx, but not sure if they're monitoring this thread (obviously everybody's expertise is welcome!). I've been having a bit of a problem with 3.69 (and had the same problem with 3.68). After a clean install on 3.69, including only a very few data restores from TiBU (and none on the apps that are giving me trouble), I've been consistently getting random but inevitable freezes on nearly all the games I play on my phone, sometimes to the point that the phone actually reboots. I get a screen flicker, and then progress slows to an absolute crawl and I even see frames flickering back and forth at times (i.e., the unicorn in RUA2 moves back and forth a frame or two on screen). When I can fully close the app, it usually reboots fine, but then freezes eventually as before. Everything else about the ROM is absolutely rock solid - I actually just commented to my wife that, other than the freeze up issue, I've never had such a clean ROM on my phone, awesome battery life, smooth as silk, etc.
I've tried pretty much all the kernel options available, in addition to stock, to no avail - the problem persists. No undervolting at all in any case, and the highest CPU temperature I've seen recorded through trickster has been 54 degrees, which shouldn't (I think) be enough to trigger heat-related issues should it? The CPU is generally sitting around 42 degrees under load, which seems great to me.
Anyways, if you have any thoughts about what could be causing the issue, I'd appreciate it. I'm assuming it's ROM-related because of the steps I've taken to eliminate it, but who knows, maybe the issue is hardware related and there's nothing to be done but replace the GPU or something.
Thanks,
--Rob
EDIT: Should also say that this is the second clean install I've done and the problem has continued in both cases (i.e., doesn't seem to be a bad install).
Just to add to my previous post: I've been reading that some problem on Nexus 4 devices have been having problems running games built with the Unity engine since the upgrade to 4.2.2. Anyone have any thoughts on whether this could be the culprit?

You may want to try this... Goto Settings --> Developer Options --> and check Disable Hardware Overlays (I haven't seen this mess with Halo functioning) and Force GPU Rendering. I think there was another related setting you need to turn on.
I got a warranty replacement and haven't been able to switch back from TouchWiz due to a baseband upgrade... So I apologize if that isn't as thorough as I would have liked.
I turned these settings on and game performance went back to normal.
HTH.

I'll give it a shot if it reappears - the problem hasn't occurred in two days now, after having been a very consistent issue since 3.68. All I've done in the meantime is some clean up of the file system via sd maid. Truly bizarre.
Thanks very much for the suggestion!

As stated in the title I have the AT&T ion and just like everyone else I got sick of running ICS. I decided to flash the international jelly bean firmware but no matter how many times I do I keep getting the battery issue, lag within my app drawer, and the HD video recording problem (which I know can't be fixed yet). Some people say the battery settles over time or after running down but my main issue is the lag. It's extremely annoying, and I only get it when scrolling through the app drawer, not the homescreens. I tried rooting and tweaking, clean installs (even without keeping the baseband) and even using third party launchers but no matter what it still lags. In Nova launcher for example I get it while opeining the app drawer. I've searched all over about this but I've only seen one other person with this problem. I have no idea what the problem is because it's obviously not the launcher itself, or the kernel, or the firmware in general but I can't seem to get rid of it unless to use ICS. So my question is: anyone have any idea how to fix this? Thanks in advance
I am running the 28i rogers with the Honami home and don't have these issues. Restoring apps from a ics Sony backup can cause problems too. With standby mode I get a day from it on average. Try a clean install of the Rogers rom and de bloat it.
U could try to supercharge it..

Thanks for the responses. But like I said it's not the launcher or anything like that. I used the stock international firmware and had it rooted and debloated, and I used the honami launcher which was definitely an improvement but didn't solve the problem. The battery thing seems to be hit or miss, i would say about half of those on jelly bean seem to have it. I'll look into supercharging it. Do you have a link to anything in the forums? thanks
