I have a couple of friends that use iPhones and they can't seem to see my group messages. All the other recipients in the group could see it. So far I have used Textra which seems to work but I rather use the stock messaging app. Anybody know how I can fixed this?

If they iMessage you, you won't get anything, because Android phones can't receive iMessages- Apple owns the protocol and they won't allow anyone else to use it.
They have to send you at least 1 SMS to set their iMessage app to handle texts to and from you properly.
After that the group messages should work.
I sent individual texts before and it works. They can't see my group text unless I use textra.

Was your last device an iPhone? There have been many reports of problems with messaging after leaving Apple for Android.
Other than that, I really have no idea.
Hopefully you find an answer to this. Good luck!

FYI for anyone with that iMessage problem after switching from Apple, Apple FINALLY allowed a way to sign out of iMessage without an iDevice.

Is this only working when everyone uses Windows Phones?
Tried it today and the conversations weren't threaded at all. It basically put my outgoing in one thread and replies from people all in their own threads. It was impossible to follow the conversation.
Has anyone tried it?
Yes it have it set to use MMS for group texting and all the devices I was texting were Android and iPhone devices.
Edit: and yea, I'm 100% sure it wasn't using different protocols for different people, since they were sitting next to me when I tested it...
Also, replies from others in the group were only coming to me, which made it impossible for anyone else to follow the conversation.

Did any of the iPhones have iMessage enabled? I know it reverts to SMS if the recipient does not support iMessage. I suspect for Group messaging, it will revert to MMS. I am wondering if there may be an issue if some are MMS and others are iMessage.
Also, with iPhone's the numbers of all recipients are visible to all recipients.
http://www.moxiemoshow.com/group-messaging-iphone/
When you sent messages to the group, were all numbers visible to all recipients?
I am wondering if Mango implemented group text messaging in a way that does not expose the numbers of all recipients. If the numbers for all recipients are not visible to all recipients, then Windows Phone 7 and the iPhone don't implement it the same. So, on one of your friends phones, check to see if all numbers are visible for messages you sent. Since their replies only went to you, I suspect they are not receiving the numbers of all recipients.
I don't know how Android implements Group messaging. Since you didn't say any of your friends had issues, I am guessing it is the same way the iPhone does it. This probably means that iMessage isn't a factor.
Unfortunately, I cannot test this because I ported the number for my LG Quantum to Google Voice to use on my iPhone that work pays for. At some point, I will be getting a prepaid SIM to put in my Quantum so that I can test things, but I have not done so yet.
All I could see on the vibrant was that I got a message from myself. Nothing about other numbers. Biggest reason I wanted to do this is so that I can cc myself in every thread I start, giving me the ability to respond transparently from any of my devices.
Was traveling for 12 hours and people got confused when I swapped devices (and.sometimes I plain.just don't feel like switching off what I'm using at that moment). Don't think I message was the issue, since the android phones aren't working either.
I knowbiys sending an mms cause.I can see the empty subject field on all of the devices.
Maybe it only works for instant.messages?
This keyboard has the worse Autocorrect ever.

There are lots of legitimate shortcomings of this wonderful platform, this is not one of them.
I mass-text enough. And I have never expected their responses to show up in the mass text field. How on earth would that be engineered?

Although i haven't used the group texting, i wouldn't expect it either to do what i think he is thinking it would do.
Windows Phone keeps history on all your contacts and what each contact has said under that contact. It's not a forum with all of your users joining a thread and posting for all to see. It would make sense that the response to your text came from just that person. It's not designed to let everyone see the response, only the response coming from that person to you. If it allowed more than it would be group instant messaging or group chat. That is not what it is.
Also... isn't what you are trying to do, what email is for? would make more sense.

Funny thing. The OP posted about this in another thread stating that Android doesn't support group messaging. Somehow it became a Windows Phone 7 issue.
In any case the mods removed that post for other reasons and disabled his account. I only saw the post in an email, because I get emails of all posts to the thread he posted in. When I actually went to the thread it was all cleaned up. Since this is the 2nd disabling in a short period of time, it may be permanent.
iPhone does implent group sms so that when iPhone users text each other using group SMS, it effectivey is like a chat room. Responses go to all recipients. All recipients receive the phone numbers of all recipients which allows reply to send responses to all recipients.
I am not sure if Windows Phone 7 group SMS does something similar to this when all phones are Windows Phone 7. To me this feature is primarly useful for event organizers, such as the captain of my softball team that sends things out to all of us, such as weather updates or asking if we know of anyone that can sub. Not as much for a big chat.
I don't have an active SIM for my LG Quantum, so I can't test it.
I have always thought of group texting as more of a way to send for example a merry xmas to all your friends (like 80 or so) in one clip. You don't want all your friends getting all 80 responses (that may kill someones text plan if they have limited)
Interesing that the iphone does that. you would think it wouldn't due to the above issue or to use a different transport.

On the iPhone,
It doesn't send 80 messages to each recipient. It just includes all 80 phone numbers with the message.
But, if they reply, it will reply to all 80.
Somehow the replies from iPhones doing this only count as 1 message though.

I think it is because group messing is actually MMS, not SMS.
This blog explains it well. http://shawnblanc.net/2010/12/iphone-group-messaging/
So, it uploads the message once.
Also, iPhone users have the free benefit of iMessage which gives unlimited messaging regardless of carrier between all iPhone OS 5 users. This also applies to iTouch and iPads.
So, on AT&T with my iPhone, I can message and iPhone on Verizon and Sprint for no charge. And to us it seems no different than SMS, except the background color is blue instead of green.
I turned group text off the minute I found out what it was I have a feeling most people don't know what they are actually doing when they use it. Whenever one goes out, I always end up with a bunch of unnecessary texts from people I don't even know.
So I have a little trouble with text messaging I cannot seem to resolve. When i send out a text message to a group of people, each the recipients cannot see the others on the list that i sent it to. The only see it as me sending it only to them, therefore there is no reply all.
This is getting on my nerves....anyone have a fix for this?
TIA!

Use GoSMS or Handcent, the stock app doesn't group messaging with MMS. Alternatively, flash AOSP based ROM and the stock app has it built in.

Its a mix....but its doesnt seem to matter. All of them tell me that it all of my texts come to them with their name as the only recipient.
Moreover, I've tried GoSMS....same deal with that.
That's how SMS works. It's not like messenger or group chat. When you send it to multiple people, what your phone does is sends that same message to each of the recipients individually, as if you were just sending it to one person. In short, you're out of luck.
If you're open to spend a little time to fix this annoying problem (I had it, too, trying to group-text between iPhones, Androids, and Windows phones), use GroupMe.
https://groupme.com/
Creates a new number which you all text to and it relays messages: works with anyone phone with SMS. If you want to send pictures, you'll need to use the app.

Really??? That's pretty cool :good:
I have a group message going with 2 iphone friends, a windows phone, and my note 3. Everything works great 90% of the time but sometimes the group mms will get fragmented. For example some messages will come through in a thread that only includes me and 2 of the members or some mms will come through as only for me. However, everyone gets these mms's that get screwed up, just not in the thread they are supposed to be in. We don't know who's phone is causing this but I suspect its the windows phone (Nokia Lumia 521). All the phones are on ATT except the Lumia which is on metro pcs. Has anyone heard of anything like this or have any suggestions to fixing this issue?

Yup, happens with me and my brother.
We have 5 people in the thread and only his texts come through separately. Happened to me with the Note 2 and Note 3
Only fix that worked for me was downloading a third party SMS app(Textra worked well on the Note 2 and fixed the issue.. But Textra doesnt work well with the Note 3) Stock messenger stinks
Maybe Chomp SMS or Go SMS will fix the issue too?

Im on Tmobile and hes on Verizon.
I am the only one having that issue. Honestly, Group MMS has been buggy the past few days for me. My phone is sending out blank messages once in a while. PITA
Textra has just updated their app and its working pretty well with the Note 3 now.
With Textra, I dont have the group mms issue that you and I are/were having.
Try Textra and see what happens
I have issues too, its def my phone as my friends all have iphone 5s except me and it worked perfect with my S4. Out of every 10 group texts I get, I would say 3 of them show as an mms from the separate party that never changes to a group message because its unable to download the mms. I feel this phone was rushed by tmobile to get it out

Make sure you click "Use MMS for Group Chats"
If that doesnt do it, also click "Activate Mobile Data" too.

I have both of them clicked on my phone and it works pretty well. Not as good as it did on my Note 2, but better than the stock messenger.

Anyone find a solution for this? I'm in a group chat with 8 people and one of them keeps getting separated. We tried making a new chat and still, and everyone else gets his just fine. This also happened with two different group chats with completely other people.
It seems that in every group chat, one person gets left out. Happens on any chat client I use.
Sorry for the bump, only thread I've found that's spot on with my issue.
Bumping again in hopes of an answer because I too am having a problem conducting group messaging.
My Note 3, two Galaxy S3s and an iPhone 5, but we discovered today that it is originating with me. I checked the message details on all the messages I tried to send through group messaging and found something odd. When I start or respond to a group message, MY messages always go out with "unknown" in the "To" field and all the receipients are "CC'd", so when they reply to my message, it comes back only to me as an individual message. Everyone else's messages that DO show up in the group message on my phone all have everyone in the "To" field. Everyone checked their phones and all group messages that they send have everyone listed in the "To" field. I am the ONLY one whose messages go out with "unknown" in the "To" field and all receipients in the "CC" field. I can remove everyone's name and add them again before I send and it STILL goes out like that. And I can't figure out a setting or anything that stops my messages from even having a "CC" field.
So my Note 3 is junking up our group messaging and it has GOT to be a Note 3 issue originating with Samsung because I'm on Verizon and I see others posting here are on other networks.
It's probably some app I disabled that has to be enabled for group messaging to work on my phone. I say that because I kept getting an error message when trying to access my stock email app for my Exchange email whenever I had a new email after I disabled the My Magazine app. Once I re-enabled it, the error messages stopped. (Found that fix elsewhere on this forum :good
Stop texts from breaking up, How?
Every time I get a long text message it's broken up into multiple messages, it's annoying because sometimes they dont all come in at the same time, or they do and i think i have a **** ton of msgs lol. It's the same on the stock messaging app and google's messaging app. Is there a setting somewhere that I've missed? It's happened with incoming msgs from iphones and android phones on different carriers.

There is little you can do, it is the carrier of the sender that is doing it. Many carriers limit the number of characters you can have per text. So if they go over it gets broken into multiple text messages. It is not an issue on your end.
I also hate this.. When I had att I didn't have this problem..
Wasn't there an option to send messages bigger then a # of characters through MMS instead of using normal split SMS?

Just a guess, but I'd say it's likely due to being Google's app and having tighter integration with the framework than carrier based bloat.

Just tried this sending myself a very long text via Wi-Fi on Sprint messaging app; it does work to combine the messages without converting to MMS.
Like others have said variables may limit results. My wife is also on my Sprint account using an iPhone 5 and her messages to me split from what I can see; don't know if hers from me split or not. Cross platform texting hasn't been reliable.

Initially failed to Motorola Photon Q. Had found the setting and enabled it and rebooted the phone; split the long message into 4 out-of-order texts. Did the System settings/System update/Update Profile on both phones and it works both ways. Sent the same text to to the iPhone 5 and it split. I've asked my wife to update her profile but she's busy; will try again later.
On my phone, had to defrost Samsung DM Service and reinstall Sprint Zone and let it update and opt out of EUL anonymous data sharing, agree to terms before I could update the profile.
BTW, combining the long text and sending a short text after that may have the shorter message arriving first. I actually sent an inquiry after getting notification that the long text test message had been forwarded back to me. The notice and inquiry went through before I got the combined message sent first.
I don't know if it happened to me or not.. never pay attention to it....gotta test later to see if if it's the same problem
How long is long. . I tested by sending to myself. But don't know if it is long enough.
My test text message consists of 80 words which was splitting into 4 text messages. Seems to be working between two different Android phones but still unknown if profile update will get it working cross-platform to/from iPhone. The Sprint iPhone 5 on the account seems to frequently have inability to sync texts with Android over Wi-Fi. Sometimes, it's just texting in general that the iPhone 5 loses.
For testing, just kept using the same message forwarded until it was received by both phones without the split.
May be wrong but sending it to yourself may only be an indication your phone can combine. It takes the profile update to tell Sprint you wish to use the combining method which appears to be an exception to every phone. Being on Gingerbread and CM for a long time, this is the first time I've seen the combining feature. About time! Hope it continues to work without frequent profile updates then broke again/update again.
This doesn't make sense. .i sent to my wife iPhone.. she received one full message but when she sent to me using the same text message it broke up to 4...wth

Did you perform the profile update on both phones? Does the Sprint iPhone have the combine text option for texts?
I haven't tried the profile update and retest with the iPhone 5 yet. Haven't seen the the settings menu on the iPhone 5, either. I think that phone is still on iOS7; afraid the update would result in early upgrade.
Not on the iPhone just the note 4
Open the stock messaging app and go to text message settings and make sure auto combination is checked.
Sent from my SM-N910P using XDA Free mobile app
I'm running stock Oreo 8.0.0 on Samsung S9 using the bundled texting app.
When I receive group texts from an iPhone user, I only see myself as a recipient; the other recipients aren't listed.
Also when I reply to what I happen to know is a group text, my reply only goes to the sender rather than to the group members.
Is there a setting I'm missing or do I need to use a different text messaging app?
I use the default messaging app on my stock S9 (VZW) and I don't have this problem. Half my family use Android-based phones and the others use iPhones. Our group conversation work just fine. However, all of the group conversation I am involved in include people already in my contacts. I'm wondering if your missing recipients is related to who is in your contacts?

Maybe I'll try a random texting app and see what happens.
Other apps exhibit the same problem. Anyone have any insight into this problem?
