Hello. I have a choice to choose between 2 handsets, I'm currently on GS3 and was considering larger phone. Anybody went from GS4 to G pro?

Well I had the S4 for a week before going back to an HTC one and now the G pro. I had the octa core version and it's a nice size, feels very comfortable in the hand, light and has a beautiful display. Nice battery life, great camera, love multiwindow and airview. Also charges fast. But it lags a lot, I mean a LOT. There's been a recent update so maybe that fixed things.
I just got the Optimus G pro yesterday and I love it so far. It's so fast and smooth, I love the transition effects, love the display (really amazing), love the big screen, battery life is the best, charges fast, also has removable battery and expandable storage plus it comes with 32gig. I prefer the G pro but the S4 is great also.
Development is better on the galaxy s 4 side but here we have ppl working hard to unlock the boot loader. Once that's done it's going to be an even better experience. We already have root. I personally would recommend the G pro if you don't mind bigger phones (and honestly it isn't that big). Otherwise s4 is also a great choice. It's up to you.

i had the s3, then went to the note2. i was about to purchase the s4 but bought the xperia zl instead. the small screen size (5inch) was a big factor in why a got rid of the zl for the og pro. try the og pro cuz the s4 is just a hold over to the note3.
I had the s4 for 2 days lots of lag! Og pro is definitely the better device

I was traveling with my GS4 when the lag got to me and I marched into an AT&T store and bought the Optimus G. I have no regrets. The GS4 has a lot of potential, but it's hampered by a poor user experience thanks to the constant lag. The recent update for the AT&T model did not resolve this.
The Optimus G runs buttery smooth all the time and, while it might not have as many features, most of the useful ones are covered and LG even has a few twists of their own that I find preferable.
I had note2 lte , i bought HTC one, s4 and g pro e988 (all lte version) within the first week of June, but now I only got s4 on hand, g pro battery actually no better than half of note 2 lte version, and the thermal control setting is too low, I found that it turn down the CPU frequency when temp reach 37c, once that happened, everything just turn noticeable lag, even got typing problem, tho I type quite fast.. at the end I keep my s4 and gave g pro to my brother and sold the others..

Thermal throttling can be disabled. And the G Pro has way better than half the Note 2's battery life.

Just got rid of my super laggy Galaxy S4. This Gpro is buttery smooth. Just disable thermal throttle and you'll love it.

I have the LG g3 I've had it for a little over a week and I do like it I have it rooted with a custom Rom and kernel. But the note 4 is so much more powerful I feel like even without root right now I might like it better than the g3. I'm only really worried about the lag that some have on the note 4 I don't have any lag on the g3. Also I hear the note 4 battery is awesome I can get about 4 hours maybe a little more on the g3. And I'm afraid that after time on the g3 games won't be smooth with the 801 chip and I'm sure there won't be any problems with the note 4 and games or videos. If I decide I like the note 4 better I'm going in today and I'd like to hear any opinions you guys have. Thanks
sent from my stumped and bumped g3
I had a g3 briefly and I was one of the ones who felt like it was kinda laggy like the 801 was struggling with the 2k display. I can tell you first hand the note 4 is smoother and overall faster than the g3. Brighter screen and better battery life/gaming performance as well. Plus if you're the type to accessorize the note has many more accessories, docks, cases than the g3. Both are good phones but the note spanks it hands down in my opinion
I had the g3 from the first day it came out till about 3 weeks after the bootloader got unlocked. note 4 is a better phone all the way through but if you want root or anything then you better not switch

I've handled it so far. The only thing I really miss is 3rd party apps writing to the SD card. The file manager built in does it fine and connecting it to pc is fine. At least there's a workaround though. I've got Apex loaded on mine.
I got the note 4 and so far I like it and I can disable a lot of bloat so that's good I'm sure I'll be happy with it
I can't decide which one to get... I'm mostly concerned about the battery life and camera.
Has anyone used both phones ? What is the battery life and camera like on the note 4 compared to the lg g4 and which one is less laggy?, I'm interested in the exynos version of note 4...
I only have the Snapdragon version of the Note 4. The battery performance is comparable, but I havent had the G4 long enough, nor do I have root to fully debloat the G4. I say its fairly even as of now.
Camera on the G4 spanks the Note 4. Note really worth the comparison especially in low light.
I like the Note 4 build quality better.
I agree with on every point there, the G4 is not really a huge improvement over the Note 4.
I have not really had chance to play with the camera much but hope to this weekend.
Hopefully we will get root for this device soon

Depends on your choice... I really like the note 4 due to the exceptional battery I get... Around 5.5 6hrs of sot.... But I hate the fingerprint scanner and camera is good.... With the lg g4... You get a better camera and almost same battery .... But the camera is very good... Won't replace my DSLR anytime soon.... ?
im most likely trading in my note 4 , cant stand not having root, and most likely LG G4 will be rooted; - also i dont really like the two-handed design, i'd rather get a lil smaller and i think ill be able to one-hand it.
Tough one. With the G4 you have a better camera but in saying that the Note 4s is excellent anyway. Battery life with the Note 4 is better and it has a more powerful GPU than the G4 perhaps leading to poorer framerates in games and stutter in UI on the G4. The Note 4 also has Gorilla Glass 4 Vs GG3 on the G4. If you want a top class camera then the G4 is your phone, otherwise there's really not much difference.
I am exactly in the same boat....
But as I read all around, battery life is really bad on the G4, I think I will order a Note 4 on Monday.

i was thinking on taking the note 4 but i got to this conclusions:
features:
first g4 got FM radio note 4 does not.
second the note 4 got kind of finger print sensor not really good one but he has that and the S pen which for me is useless.
Winner : note 4
Price:
in my country the note 4 is about 50$ more expansive than the G4 not the leather version its not much but the g4 is still cheaper...
Winner: g4
Build/premium feel:
the gorilla glass number does not really matter if you end up putting a good glass screen protector on it and lg claims that the slim arc design is more durable, dont know if that is true.
the premium feeling - if you are like me you are going to put your phone in a case so it does not really matter how it feels.
Winner: tie
multimedia:
as it appears to be G4 camera is better but as you said they both good, speaker almost the same preformance, screen its tricky but i am not going to say that the note 4 does not look good i just dont like the amoled color approach.
Winner: some say the headphone sound on the note4 is better so this is a: tie
interface:
if there is anything that i hate about touchwiz and i know its stupid its the appdrawer there is no simple search button (i know you can search but i just want a button on top just like HTC Sony and LG)
touchwiz is still laggy LG ux 4 is really nice some handful features in my opinion
Winner: g4
handling and operating:
after holding the g flex2 and the note 4 today i can tell you for sure that the note 4 is not a comfy phone at all (not to hold or to operate)
the holding - every phone with a curved back will be always more comfortable to hold than a flat one.
the operating - the screen 5.5 vs 5.7 not that much diffrence but... the flex got onscreen buttons while the note 4 does not... so flex is somthing like 5.2 without the buttons so.. 5.2 vs 5.7 it is a big diffrence ,so it is much easier to reach the buttons on the g4 than on the note 4 and you can hide them on any app you like on settings...
and another point that it might just be me but...(i dont know how to decribe so just ,you know listen to the story)with the note 4 your are surfing on chrome moving between pages press back go to another website press recent apps button go to check emails again rencet button back to chrome want to check the wether click home button and than ahhhhhhh its a physical button why? why do i suddenly need to add more pressure , it just ruins the user experience, and it's like that in all Samsung devices why they didnt just go with touch buttons all the way..
Winner: g4
benchmark(SD 805 VERSION):
note 4 benchmarks are slightly better in the gpu department only which is where the g4 is more efficient this is why he almost never gets hot..
but on reality the note 4 still suffers from touchwiz lags as the g4 on the reviews fly with out a problem
Winner : g4
updates:
i think you can count on LG in that department because they want to prove things.. and because the note 4 is almost half year old if not older i am not counting on fast updates.
Winner : g4
battery life :
from the battery thread i got this the g4 got better battery life than G3/S6 and avarge SOT is 4-6 hours which is pretty decent and it will last you a full day under moderate use and got better and from what i read the note 4 SOT is 6-8 (running on KK) it is more but if you really want that 2 hours more SOT you can get a future zerolemon or mugen power extended battery(with the same dimensions of the original one ) you might be getting a closer to same SOT as the note 4 .
any way in my country you are getting a free extra battery and a battery charger free with the phone so....
Winner: note4
(i do think that the g4 will get an update to polish things up)
summary:
g4:8
note4:4
so i will be going to get the g4
sorry for my bad english i hope i helped in anyway...

I just traded in my note 4 for t mobile g4. I'm not going to lie, the note is an awesome phone. I was personally just not a fan of touchwiz. It has some nice functionality and the spen is sweet but there was a lot of lag and it was just a hair to big whereas the g4 is a perfect size and fits my hands. Either way you can't go wrong, both are great phones. I think if I didn't have jump1 with T-Mobile I would have definitely stuck with the note....

The question I personally have to ask myself is as I already have the Note 4 is it worth the extra £500 for a G4. The answer i find is, no its not. The G4 just doesn't have a massive advantage over the Note 4. If it was a brand new purchase I'd have to seriously consider a G4 but there's just not enough for me to shell out another £500 for a G4 when I already have a phone which is pretty much on par.

Basically I am at peace with my decision to go with the g4 but it would not hurt to hear another opinion

I think youll do great with the G4, its a great phone and theres nothing much that the Note 4 can do better as long as you dont need a stylus and a root method is found for the G4 which im sure it will.

With root you can do a lot. I couldn't live without apps like Viper4Android or disable certain apps and services that cause battery drain and monitor what is causing the drain. You can also install Ad blockers, debloat your Rom and ultimately with an unlocked bootloader install new Roms and kernels. Root (and an unlocked bootloader) is a fairly vital function for most advanced Android users.

I have had the Note 4 since launch and is my favorite device purchased to date. Got to mess with the G4 last week and really like it. Overall, I prefer the Note 4 for three key reasons. Much better battery life (over two hours SOT, based on all reviews that compared), no nav bar and the Gear VR integration. Even without Gear VR I would prefer the Note 4, but if the Note 4 was not an option, the G4 would be my second choice since the S6 with no battery or sd option IMO is too Apple-like. The G4 would be a better option to me.
Speaking of VR, I wonder how the slight curve will impact VR set usage? Seems it could cause an ever so slight hourglass shaped distortion (maybe not enough to bug?).
hopefully my g4 gets here Wednesday and i can do a comparison against note 4 and g4

Battery life is significantly better on the Note 4, but if carrying a spare battery or not out all day, no harm no foul.
Added: Based on Anandtech and other tech reviews, the display is not as power efficient as the Note display, so not sure how the battery life can be improved much on the G4. It does not seem to be
a case of rogue apps burning in the background, but per reviews mainly to do with the display tech. It is MUCH better than the G3's, but still apparently just as power thirsty.
The display is the biggest weight for power of average usage for devices.

I'm always in the market for the latest and greatest tech and had every flagship last year. Aside from the S6 which is a no-go for me due to the no sd slot and removable battery, the Note 4 (IMO) can't really be beaten at the moment. That will probably change later this year though. The only thing that would tempt me to the G4 is the camera but with its other downsides like locked bootloader, poorer battery and subpar GPU, it's just not enough.

Unless the Note 5 has a 4K display (for Gear VR use) and still has battery and sd options, I will happily stick with the Note 4. That presumes of course a 4K display is somehow power efficient (perhaps 4K mode for Gear VR and 1440p for everything else). I think though that Samsung is going to lose marketshare to the G4 and will mainly impact the S6. Really think Samsung screwed up with the S6 and actual sales appears to support this. Key differentiaion was the battery and sd option, but Samsung KILLED it and likely their chance of market improvement.
If only the G4 had the same power efficiency as the Note 4 display, it would be about "perfect". Not rooting or tweaking is going to help the display.
I'm curious. Is anybody going from the G Pro to the G4? I've had the G Pro for almost 2 years. Thinking about going to the G4 or wait and see what the Nexus 7 phone will be later this year.

I have the Samsung S4 active and LG E980---both rooted and the S4 active has Lollipop and faster processor. Guess which phone I use? The LG! The battery life on all my Samsungs just can't compare---they're at 20% by 8:00 PM where the LG is at 60%. Also, the LG is faster and rarely seems to get bogged down. I am curious about the G4 though and it's either that or possibly the Moto. I'm done with Samsung---too much bloat and crap.

But is the G4 a definite step up, or is it a lateral move? I remember looking at the specs for the G3, and it seemed that the OGP still had some Better specs in certain areas. So, if we migrate over to the G4, what if anything will we be losing? I might wait a bit and see if the G4 Note becomes a reality...
Edit: if you like a bright white screen, you might not be happy with the G4. When i did a side by side comparison between the G4 & the OGP, I noticed that the G4 was much dimmer than the OGP, and it had a distinct blue tint instead of the bright white I'm accustomed to. Both phones were set to m max brightness. I'm not sure if the G4 has any sort of tint or tone settings to have caused the blue-ish screen, but it was definitely set set max brightness. It reminded me of the coloring on an Amoled from a Note 2. One thing of note though...when viewed by itself, the G4's screen looked fine! But when placed side by side, there was a marked difference...
Let snapdragon 820 phone come. I will upgrade rather 808 or 810
I miss the home button LED on the ogp.
I played with the G4 twice in the store. The G Pro and the G4 both have the same size screen, but you get more screen to use on the G Pro when you factor in the G4 having onscreen buttons. I wish they had made the G4 with a 5.7 inch screen like the LG Stylus.

Quite honestly, maybe I'm missing something. I messed around with the G4, G3, Samsung S5, S6 and the Nexxus 6 and I noticed very little difference in the LG E980 and these other phones. Screen--not much difference. Reaction time---almost the same. Size---same, thickness---slightly better but nothing crazy.
Honestly, about the only phone I thought was "exciting" was the Iphone 6 plus. But I want external memory and removable battery. Just not excited to upgrade...is there something I'm missing?

Yeah you missing that you are crazy nut. Lol serious thought. I agree on pretty much everything. I do not think the last few years have made a big difference anymore. And the G Pro is probably the best phone you easily can buy for under 150 probably the best one anyway. Because most phones more expensive or same price range have build in battery and those after roughly 2 years aren't lasting anymore. I had to get a replacement for my G Pro because the battery drained within 3 hours. But isn't a big deal since it has a replaceable battery.

I sold my G3, because of a very poor battery life, had to charge it 4-6 times daily, and this G4 is reported to have even poorer battery life than G3 on several sites
so I wont buy g4, there are better alternatives with lower price tags

I moved from the G Pro to the G4. Battery life has been great so far, standby lasted a few days. On screen was near 6 hours with heavy use and the quick charge feature is great! Now that it's rooted and all of the bloat removed, it's an even better phone. The camera is very impressive and crisp. I still have my G Pro and love it however, I just don't turn it on much anymore. The G4 has impressed me to the point that my other devices really don't get touched anymore.

Swapped my OGP with new G4 from a retailer yesterday. Its like riding a Trimph after a base model of Honda. Though a lot of bloatware, but zero lag till now.
Well, need you guys help. Please share inbuilt qhd videos on OGP with me. Searched over on internet but couldn't find anything.
I was very exited when I saw the G4 with 5.5'' LCD and superb camera but now the lack of root (and roms) makes it less sexy that's why I wonder if the Note 4/Edge is not a better phone.
Here's what I found:
Advantages G4:
-New 2015 model
-Excellent camera both in daylight and night
-RAW
-5.5'' 1440p while easily one handed thanks to better body size
-Weight about 20grm less
-LCD screen means Zero burnins, good for Car apps
-Less lags than Note 4
-Better loudspeaker
Advantages Note4/ Edge:
-Rooted!
-Excellent camera in daylight, good in low light.
-Very crisp screen 1440p at 5.7''
-Cool Edge gadget on the Note Edge
-Better resale
-Ported S6 TW makes it less laggy than stock Note 4 one
-No Touchscreen problem
-Better Audio using earphones with Exynos version
You're in the wrong forum. This is the G4 You're going to get primarily G4 votes. If you go to the Note 4/E thread and post this, you'll get, as you might not be surprised by, votes for the Note 4/E.
Both are good phones. Coming from the Note 4, I suggest the G4. No lag or overheating. Camera is much better on G4. Battery life is also superior. You'll miss the s-pen though.

I too recommend the g4, I too have come from the note 4 and don't miss it at all no more. G4 camera, audio, and display is superior. Colors are accurate where the note 4 is amoled yes black levels are legit dark but colors are fairly saturated to make that pop feature. Battery life too is superior with the g4.
I went OPO to G4 back to OPO to Note 4 and haven't look back. I will try to come back to the G4 if/when root is released but now, in both phones present state, there is better performance and better functionality in the Note 4. Only area the G4 shines over a rooted, cleaned Note 4 is camera performance and the gap isn't so big that you can ignore all the areas where is pales to the Note 4.
Mind you, I said a rooted, cleaned Note 4. In original state, Note is laggy and not using full potential. But root it, clean it, install some of the rooted goodies and the Note shines.
Goodluck finding a legit, not clone version.. YMMV
My vote is also G4, otherwise phablet, I'd prefer the Nexus 6.
I had the Note 4 Edge and moved to the G4. The Lollipop update for the Note destroyed the responsiveness and battery life. It was terrible. T-Mobile admitted they were getting poor performance from the handset after the update.
So I'd say G4.
Looks like Root is not far now for all G4, though the "touchscreen issue" is still not fixed , I wonder if it's not a hardware problem...
Anyway I think the wise move is to wait for the unveiling of Note 5 in less than 20 days, not for the device itself but for the price downfall on both G4 and Note 4/edge, by then I think all G4 will get root and the touchscreen issue will finally be fixed.
I have both and like some features of the Edge and vise versa on the G4. By far the battery life on my G4 is spectacular, cant speak for the rest. The Edge battery is disappointing. I have factory reset after both 5.01 and 5.1 and can take it off the charger and within a couple minutes of use will be at 98%.
So the G4 got Root for mainly all variants!!
Price is still a little more than normal here, I am pretty sure it can drop a 100$ anytime soon
What about the Touchscreen issue? Is it hardware or software?
The Note 5 is releasing soon. If you are in the market and can wait, I would see what the Note 5 has in store. I highly recommend the G4 but if you like the SPen it would be wise. I heard August 8th. I'm not sure when they would be available to buy though. The Note 3 was out in September. The Note 4 was available in October. This year, Samsung is wanting to launch PRIOR to the Apple conference in Sept.
I would wait for Note 5 unveiling just for the impact on G4's price, the Note 5 itself will be overpriced for months and would not have SD card

I think the only advantage of the Note 4/Edge is that they have some custom roms, the G4 even with the Root is not able to get custom roms because of the bootloader and lack of rom sources.
A custom kernel could fix the touchscreen issue but the lack of kernel source is also a problem on G4, though hardware wise it's superior in every field
