Honestly not sure if anyone else feels this way so I'm curious what the rest of the At&t Note 4 community has to say...specifically on this...I mean two very important sensors got replaced for a fingerprint sensor and a heartbeat monitor that when you have a case on both are hard to use like it becomes pointless...which I think they are both too early in development to actually lose a humidity and temp sensor which alot of apps like to grab ahold of and becomes kind of important...the restriction is killer almost like I don't want it anymore honestly no root locked bootloader...can't do that for as long as I have been let alone alot longer...the camera has alot of gimmicks in it but does have a little better camera itself just think the software is horrible...I will say the pixel difference is there though and the screen is wonderful...it does have the lastest snapdragon which i like its the only reason why I still wanna hold it honestly...the battery is like a huge noticeable difference it decays alot faster then the three did and the phone does warm up alot more I think it has alot to do with the snapdragon the screen and the software layout like there is a lot of white when there doesn't need to be and the teal menu &!*# kills me I can't stand it there are alot of s5 layouts and even apps on here that they tried to hide but don't even work almost like they ported the s5 to the note 4 with minor changes it sucks ...but is that worth it over the note 3 I replaced it with I don't think it is....it think maybe a tmobile version of this phone would be worth replacing my at&t note 3 maybe thats a maybe its like they just through something together and sent it out because apple has a new i phone they need to compete with but it needs work i think it got put out to early...but this is definitely not worth it...just my opinion I'm curious what others feel...if it was a loss or a gain...

I am coming from the Note 3 and I am loving the 4. The screen is amazing, I find battery life even better that the 3. Definitely more responsive with the 805 Snapdragon. I have the Ringke Slim case which allows me to still use the heart monitor with no issues. I find the fingerprint sensor to be a nice option. I personally don't mind the teal settings menu since I just don't interact that much with the menu. I also really liked the Note 3
I always believed that somebody who own a Galaxy Note should wait at least two year period for upgraded.
Hardware jump is not as impressive as the Note 3 and quite frankly, Samsung is really becoming insistent that the better value of the device is it ecosystem and built-in app.
So any one who are still owning a Note 3, don't feel the rush to upgrading, you are fin at least until Note 5 has something better to offer.
2.5D glass makes the device a dream to use when swiping from the edges of the display.I went from the note 2 to the M7 to the Note 3 to the M8 to the Note 4 and I think it's worth it but I'm a early adopter/ enthusiast type of guy
Both phones are great and indeed very similar, but the Note 4 just kills it on camera which blows it out of the park.
Battery life for me has been better with Note 4 ever since I killed the bloatware (compared to N3).
Seriously though, the camera... It's not even about pixel count at all, it's the optical image stabilization and wider field of view... Incredibly more capable as a walk-around point 'n shoot. The glass seems to capture a sharper and wider image. This has nothing to do with pixel count. Numbers only tell you so much... Image quality tells you everything
IMO, it depends. My Note 3 running DynamicKat was pretty much just as fast as the Note 4, plus I had all the other benefits of being rooted. Honestly, I've been using the Note 4 since it came out but I find a reason I missed my Note 3 everyday......
EXCEPT! IMO, the "Quick Charge" is the biggest reason to get the Note 4. I'm no longer caring about my battery life. Seriously, I LOVE that feature.
I came from the note 3, and love the note 4. I will, however, return this one, and buy the t-mobile one. That way I can root.

Here's the Note 3 sensors...
Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, gesture, temperature, humidity
And the Note 4's...
Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, gesture, UV, heart rate, SpO2 (blood oxygen)
So UV, heart rate, and blood oxygen replaced temperature and humidity. I'd guess how "very important" the swap is depends on individual use cases. Out of curiosity, how did the loss of temperature and humidity sensors impact what you do with your phone?

It's the new "normal." Look what Google themselves is doing with 5.0. Two years ago I'd say about 75% of my circle of friends and associates rooted their phones. Today it's about 25%. Anyone connecting to a company network can't use a "tampered" phone. And it's not a physical restriction, it's the security document you sign that says using a tampered device to connect to the company network is an instant terminable offense. So T-Mobile doesn't lock their bootloaders (they don't do a lot of national account business either) but that's going to become the exception not the rule. I haven't been able to use a rooted device in over a year based on the networks I need to connect to.
The camera has alot of gimmicks in it but does have a little better camera itself just think the software is horrible...

You're pretty much alone in your opinion. You give up nothing from the Note 3 and gain a lot. And that's according to people on the forum and reviewers.
The battery is like a huge noticeable difference it decays alot faster then the three did

The Note 3's over a year old and so is its interface. The SGS5 is six months old and was Samsung's first effort to streamline and flatten TW and move to a more contemporary UX design and colors. The Note 4's s/w looks far more modern and has much better stock app integration than the Note 3's. I think you'll find it hard to find people that want to go back to a UX design that was already dated when the N3 launched. UI and UX design is also subjective.
Battery is better than GN3. It has to be some bloat were, if you have a poor battery life, an Index Service bug, for example. GN4 is substantially faster not only based on the CPU speed, but also on a faster memory controller. Definitely better and faster camera, brighter screen for outdoor use.
I got the Note 4, for me the upgrade was worth it including the other sensors. I would defiantly upgrade if you have the option through the Next program, if you're going to have to pay retail, not worth it.
I was rooted on my Note 3, but I have disabled all AT&T apps and have the exact same setup with Nova Prime on my Note 4. Hands down, this is a better device in terms of screen, camera, and for me most importantly BATTERY LIFE! My Note 3 was running stock rom with root because I have AT&T versions. The biggest eater of my battery life was Android Wear with my Moto 360. It literally sucked the life out of my Note 3 where it would only last barely a day - it was pretty bad. Also, I've owned every Note since the first one came out. I had a black Note 1 and people were shocked by how big it was when it first came out. I then got a white Note 2 (I truly loved this phone - it was rooted with the best rom = CLEANROM). The white Note 3 that replaced it was decent. Now, I'm back to all black with a Ringke Slim Black Soft Feel case. The battery life just doesn't seem to want to drop at all, lol. Even the stock pull down doesn't bother me as others have said. I still have it pretty customized using light manager and Textra, etc. I used Helium to restore all my app data perfectly. I highly recommend the Note 4. However, like others have noted, it's probably best to get the Tmobile version if you have the money and root it and use it on AT&T. The only reason I stuck with AT&T is because my friend has a hook up (I got my phone really early) and the amount just factors into my bill through the Next program so it's cheaper overall.
I was heading towards the Nexus 6 but with the debacle today I think I will go for the note 4. Your comments were very helpful.

its the edge your talking about right? or something like the 3D glass you out on?
I went from the Note 2 to the Note 4, and honestly, I would still call this an incremental upgrade. That's not a knock on the phone, merely an observation on the state of the technology in this category.
The screen is much better, but the speed increases are negligible, the software is not significantly improved, the stylus actually feels cheaper and a step back though I have not used it enough to make a call on functionality. I did not spend any time with the Note 3, but this is actually (IMO) less comfortable to hold vs the Note 2 due to the "squared" design.
I was skeptical of upgrading, but I had numerous hardware issues after two years with the Note 2 that really forced my hand into upgrading now. If you're OK with your Note 2 or 3, then pocket the cash or donate a portion to me and wait for the next big thing. Wow. That was not intentional.
I was thinking about passing note 4 cuz I had a Note 3 (rooted) . The screen is amazing and my battery is absurdly insane awesome on the note 4 . I'm a moderate user to heavy use and haven't got battery below 75 % . I'm impressed !

I came from my wonderful rooted Note 3 running urdroid rom to this amazing specimen of a phone.
snappiness
camera quality
screen quality
s-health coolness
Sheer power to carve up commands effortlessly
battery life
quick charge
These are all things that I consider more than just marginal improvements over my Note 3. I honestly never thought I would be using touchwiz. I'm the guy that automatically goes and installs nova prime without batting an eye. I'm going two week strong on touchwiz and loving it. The spen integration is improved. I like the new wrinkles around being able to manipulate windows and apps in bubbles and such. I pledged for root because the one thing that I don't like on stock is the fact that I have no real control over how cluttered my notification area gets up top. Give me root with wanam exposed and I am one happy camper.
It may be gimmicky bit I like being able to gauge my stress level. I measured my stress level and my wife's at the same time one evening. We had both just gotten home from work. She was clearly stressed while I had what I thought was a low stress day. The measurement was on point. This phone is making me utilize s-health more than ever before and I like that. I run a lot and count calories so it comes in handy.
All things considered, rooted or not, this is one helluva piece of technology.

Also coming from the Note 3... And I'm still on it.
Note 4 is in its box until the wifi issue is fixed. Any B, G, N network speed is horrible. AC Seems fine though but I travel a lot and AC is new and expensive, no where is going to have it so its unacceptable for me.
Its really not an upgrade, its like getting an iPhone 4 S from a 4 or a 5 S from a 5. Yeah the cameras are a bit better, but that's about it in all honesty. Hating Kit Kat.

How did you kill the bloatware if not Rooted?
So I just sold my Xperia Z2, Thinking about the Note 4 or G3?
Im leaning more towards the Note 4 but is there common issues going on with them? I`d be buying one Used AT&T is asking way too much for theres.
Also is there an International like rom/stock rom that will work with the AT&T varient? I cannot stand what AT&T does to there software.
Honestly I have Note 4 from AT&T, it's amazing... way better than LG G3... G3 has a few serious issues people say the battery life is horrible, also they phone overheats, it will auto dim your screen when this happens, if you try to turn it up a message comes out an say your phone is to hot... also you can't use no roms on at&t note 4, SM-N910A model and SM-N910V (Verizon) model both r not able to b rooted yet, but I personally think after 5.0 gets released an couple months after we will have a root but right now no... people will alway find ways just takes time an no point when they kno a software update is due... personally I bought a Note 4 but if I was gunna buy any other phone would have been iPhone 6 or 6+ or Nexus 6
my wife has the G3 and I have the Note 4. I'm obviously biased but I prefer the N4 over the G3. Just personal preference since both devices are great. I do like the 'knock to unlock' feature on the G3 and the speakers seem to be louder but I dont regret getting the N4.
It all comes down to your preference.

tl;dr = YES!!
My full $.02 is on my site: http://www.stupidputer.com/2015/02/the-nexus-4-finally-dies/
I am really drawn to the camera. It takes great pictures, focuses quickly and has very low shot latency, which is really important. My last phone, the LG G2 also took nice pictures, but was so damn slow in shooting. But I'll probably be the first person to jump to the Galaxy s6 and HTC One M9 when they come out. Android doesn't do a great job with utilizing the bigger screens of phones. With the iPhone 6 plus, you get nice landscape UI shift with a lot of apps.
In all honesty, if I had it to do over again, I would probably get the iphone 6. The Note is a little laggy and slugguish and the allure of the spen wore off pretty quickly.
I can't decide which one to get... I'm mostly concerned about the battery life and camera.
Has anyone used both phones ? What is the battery life and camera like on the note 4 compared to the lg g4 and which one is less laggy?, I'm interested in the exynos version of note 4...
I only have the Snapdragon version of the Note 4. The battery performance is comparable, but I havent had the G4 long enough, nor do I have root to fully debloat the G4. I say its fairly even as of now.
Camera on the G4 spanks the Note 4. Note really worth the comparison especially in low light.
I like the Note 4 build quality better.
I agree with on every point there, the G4 is not really a huge improvement over the Note 4.
I have not really had chance to play with the camera much but hope to this weekend.
Hopefully we will get root for this device soon

Depends on your choice... I really like the note 4 due to the exceptional battery I get... Around 5.5 6hrs of sot.... But I hate the fingerprint scanner and camera is good.... With the lg g4... You get a better camera and almost same battery .... But the camera is very good... Won't replace my DSLR anytime soon.... ?
im most likely trading in my note 4 , cant stand not having root, and most likely LG G4 will be rooted; - also i dont really like the two-handed design, i'd rather get a lil smaller and i think ill be able to one-hand it.
Tough one. With the G4 you have a better camera but in saying that the Note 4s is excellent anyway. Battery life with the Note 4 is better and it has a more powerful GPU than the G4 perhaps leading to poorer framerates in games and stutter in UI on the G4. The Note 4 also has Gorilla Glass 4 Vs GG3 on the G4. If you want a top class camera then the G4 is your phone, otherwise there's really not much difference.
I am exactly in the same boat....
But as I read all around, battery life is really bad on the G4, I think I will order a Note 4 on Monday.

i was thinking on taking the note 4 but i got to this conclusions:
features:
first g4 got FM radio note 4 does not.
second the note 4 got kind of finger print sensor not really good one but he has that and the S pen which for me is useless.
Winner : note 4
Price:
in my country the note 4 is about 50$ more expansive than the G4 not the leather version its not much but the g4 is still cheaper...
Winner: g4
Build/premium feel:
the gorilla glass number does not really matter if you end up putting a good glass screen protector on it and lg claims that the slim arc design is more durable, dont know if that is true.
the premium feeling - if you are like me you are going to put your phone in a case so it does not really matter how it feels.
Winner: tie
multimedia:
as it appears to be G4 camera is better but as you said they both good, speaker almost the same preformance, screen its tricky but i am not going to say that the note 4 does not look good i just dont like the amoled color approach.
Winner: some say the headphone sound on the note4 is better so this is a: tie
interface:
if there is anything that i hate about touchwiz and i know its stupid its the appdrawer there is no simple search button (i know you can search but i just want a button on top just like HTC Sony and LG)
touchwiz is still laggy LG ux 4 is really nice some handful features in my opinion
Winner: g4
handling and operating:
after holding the g flex2 and the note 4 today i can tell you for sure that the note 4 is not a comfy phone at all (not to hold or to operate)
the holding - every phone with a curved back will be always more comfortable to hold than a flat one.
the operating - the screen 5.5 vs 5.7 not that much diffrence but... the flex got onscreen buttons while the note 4 does not... so flex is somthing like 5.2 without the buttons so.. 5.2 vs 5.7 it is a big diffrence ,so it is much easier to reach the buttons on the g4 than on the note 4 and you can hide them on any app you like on settings...
and another point that it might just be me but...(i dont know how to decribe so just ,you know listen to the story)with the note 4 your are surfing on chrome moving between pages press back go to another website press recent apps button go to check emails again rencet button back to chrome want to check the wether click home button and than ahhhhhhh its a physical button why? why do i suddenly need to add more pressure , it just ruins the user experience, and it's like that in all Samsung devices why they didnt just go with touch buttons all the way..
Winner: g4
benchmark(SD 805 VERSION):
note 4 benchmarks are slightly better in the gpu department only which is where the g4 is more efficient this is why he almost never gets hot..
but on reality the note 4 still suffers from touchwiz lags as the g4 on the reviews fly with out a problem
Winner : g4
updates:
i think you can count on LG in that department because they want to prove things.. and because the note 4 is almost half year old if not older i am not counting on fast updates.
Winner : g4
battery life :
from the battery thread i got this the g4 got better battery life than G3/S6 and avarge SOT is 4-6 hours which is pretty decent and it will last you a full day under moderate use and got better and from what i read the note 4 SOT is 6-8 (running on KK) it is more but if you really want that 2 hours more SOT you can get a future zerolemon or mugen power extended battery(with the same dimensions of the original one ) you might be getting a closer to same SOT as the note 4 .
any way in my country you are getting a free extra battery and a battery charger free with the phone so....
Winner: note4
(i do think that the g4 will get an update to polish things up)
summary:

I just traded in my note 4 for t mobile g4. I'm not going to lie, the note is an awesome phone. I was personally just not a fan of touchwiz. It has some nice functionality and the spen is sweet but there was a lot of lag and it was just a hair to big whereas the g4 is a perfect size and fits my hands. Either way you can't go wrong, both are great phones. I think if I didn't have jump1 with T-Mobile I would have definitely stuck with the note....

The question I personally have to ask myself is as I already have the Note 4 is it worth the extra £500 for a G4. The answer i find is, no its not. The G4 just doesn't have a massive advantage over the Note 4. If it was a brand new purchase I'd have to seriously consider a G4 but there's just not enough for me to shell out another £500 for a G4 when I already have a phone which is pretty much on par.

With root you can do a lot. I couldn't live without apps like Viper4Android or disable certain apps and services that cause battery drain and monitor what is causing the drain. You can also install Ad blockers, debloat your Rom and ultimately with an unlocked bootloader install new Roms and kernels. Root (and an unlocked bootloader) is a fairly vital function for most advanced Android users.

not to mention Xprivacy is crucial too!!! - love root, need root, its ashame companies are taking it away from us for "security" reasons, BS...i rooted my original Droid, still own it, and never had any "security" issues, only security issues is google cant steal my info as easily...
I have had the Note 4 since launch and is my favorite device purchased to date. Got to mess with the G4 last week and really like it. Overall, I prefer the Note 4 for three key reasons. Much better battery life (over two hours SOT, based on all reviews that compared), no nav bar and the Gear VR integration. Even without Gear VR I would prefer the Note 4, but if the Note 4 was not an option, the G4 would be my second choice since the S6 with no battery or sd option IMO is too Apple-like. The G4 would be a better option to me.
Speaking of VR, I wonder how the slight curve will impact VR set usage? Seems it could cause an ever so slight hourglass shaped distortion (maybe not enough to bug?).
hopefully my g4 gets here Wednesday and i can do a comparison against note 4 and g4

I think youll do great with the G4, its a great phone and theres nothing much that the Note 4 can do better as long as you dont need a stylus and a root method is found for the G4 which im sure it will.

Battery life is significantly better on the Note 4, but if carrying a spare battery or not out all day, no harm no foul.
Added: Based on Anandtech and other tech reviews, the display is not as power efficient as the Note display, so not sure how the battery life can be improved much on the G4. It does not seem to be
a case of rogue apps burning in the background, but per reviews mainly to do with the display tech. It is MUCH better than the G3's, but still apparently just as power thirsty.
The display is the biggest weight for power of average usage for devices.

I'm always in the market for the latest and greatest tech and had every flagship last year. Aside from the S6 which is a no-go for me due to the no sd slot and removable battery, the Note 4 (IMO) can't really be beaten at the moment. That will probably change later this year though. The only thing that would tempt me to the G4 is the camera but with its other downsides like locked bootloader, poorer battery and subpar GPU, it's just not enough.

Unless the Note 5 has a 4K display (for Gear VR use) and still has battery and sd options, I will happily stick with the Note 4. That presumes of course a 4K display is somehow power efficient (perhaps 4K mode for Gear VR and 1440p for everything else). I think though that Samsung is going to lose marketshare to the G4 and will mainly impact the S6. Really think Samsung screwed up with the S6 and actual sales appears to support this. Key differentiaion was the battery and sd option, but Samsung KILLED it and likely their chance of market improvement.
If only the G4 had the same power efficiency as the Note 4 display, it would be about "perfect". Not rooting or tweaking is going to help the display.
Hey all. I'm on verizon. currently own a iphone 6 plus. the phone is ok but i HATE HATE HATE how it only has 1 gb of ram and that when i multitask, it has to reopen and or refresh apps all the time. i cant have more than 2 tabs in safari without one of them having to refresh. same with apps that i just opened. i hate it.
late last year, i did own a nexus 5 before the iphone 6 plus. i was on straight talk with but ATT where i live is HORRIBLE so just went back on my families family plan. being that the nexus 5 does not work on verizon i sold it and got the iphone 6 plus. i would have went with the nexus 6 but was not out until a month after the 6.
anyway, i can't decided if i should go nexus 6 or LG G4. my bud has a nexus 6 and he let me mess without for a while yesterday and i really like it. just like the nexus 5. love stock android. love having bootloader unlocked and root and having system images to the latest version of android. he was running liquid smooth rom (5.1.1) and it was really fast and nice. the only thing i dont really like about it is that the phone is a little wider than my iphone 6 plus and that phone is already wide to begin with. i know these phones are not really meant for one hand use but i want to at least be able to reply to a text message with one hand. so not sure about that part. also worried about the battery life with it. dont like that i can't get 64 gig version on verizon. also no micro sd slot and being that im a tech nerd. i HATE buying older tech products. nexus has been out for about 6 months or more know, it does have a 805 chip while the G4 has the 6 core 808 chip and much better camera. but going with the G4, i get a plastic phone, probably wont see its bootloader ever unlocked. and i hate skinned android. How long did it take for the verizon LG G3 to get root? as long as i have root so i can uninstall bloat apps ill be fine. plus i like how the G4 is closer to the same size as the 6 plus i have rather than the huge 6" size the nexus 6 is.
TLR
have a 6 plus. hate that it has 1gb ram and has to reload every app when multitasking. cant decided if i should go with the 6 month old nexus 6, or get the LG G4. i want root, good battery life, fast performance, good camera,

how do you like it? hows the battery life? the feel of the phone? is it old samsung plastic feel or is it a decent thick plastic feel? (know that sounds weird but some plastic phones feel like cheap while others feel fine) how is the multitasking? does it have the memory leak issue like the S6 has? example in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUw9PUlFUF0&feature=youtu.be
i wish it had 5.1.1, which fixed all the memory leaks

I got my G4 last Thursday, and I love it. I like the same things most people are liking...but if youre trying to decide Ill tell you this: once you experience knock-on/knock-off you wont want another phone without it Mine is leather backed, and its comfortable.
The leather version G4 is going to be one of the nicest looking phone you ever had. (ironically the plastic version looks the poorest/most normal among all the flagship smartphones out there imo)
But not too sure about the durability of the leather though.

the black leather version looks nice but im not really a fan of the itching down the middle tomorrow im going to call my local verizon store and see if they have any working display units before the street date so i can play with it and see how it is. hopefully they have one on display before this Thursdays release. i have tomorrow.
I get mine Tuesday, I loved my g3 then switched to the nexus 6 when I got my upgrade, wasn't a fan of the s6 edge. The nexus 6 is a very solid phone, I have mine rooted with aosip rom from droyd running zen kernel. Battery has been amazing using this combination, speed is silky smooth, and volume is loud! I love a loud speaker that's why I'm going to try the g4. The g3 with sound hack has been one of the loudest phones I've had. I can speak up on the g4 Tuesday but since there's no root yet I can only give details on the stock experience. You have 14 days to return the phone so I say try both and see what suits you. I was lucky enough to have my wife's upgrade as soon as the g4 was released so I have both. :good:

i really like the nexus 6. from the time playing with my buds, im pretty sure ill get that. I just dont like buying tech things (computer parts or phones) that have been on the market to long. i know the next nexus is rumored to not come out till this coming October, but being how the G4 has the 808 chip and a better camera. the thing that's making me indecisive is the G4 having a skin over android as well as the risk of not having root and or custom recoveries.
how long did it take for the G3 to have root?
To also sum this up, it also depends on what your needs are. If you want primarily a gaming and heavy-CPU use phone, as well as lots of development (now) the N6 might be better off. If you like lots of gadgets and a great camera, the G4 is for you.
I had the Nexus 6 abs and I decided to go with the G4 and I'm loving it!
I have had my note 4 since it came out, my G4 is sitting here almost ready to go back, I had the G2 and G3, all notes so far. I really wanted to like the G4 better than the note.
I got the S6 edge, but returned it (not as good as the note 4).
G4 vs Note 4 = note 4 is rooted and I am running Dynamic Pop, or CM12.1 depending.
Performance and benchmarks
The note 4 Antutu is 50,000 to 52,000 the G4 is 48,000 to 50,000, G4 gets hung up easy on some tasks, both are about as fluid on easy stuff.
Screen, the Note 4 is at leaast twice as bright, much easier to read indoor and out doors and have MUCH better viewing angles, like a printed page vs a lcd screen. The G4 just looks dull, and you have to wait for the back light to turn up so you can see anything, not a biggie, but its a flagship phone?
Download speed, again for some reason the note 4 seems to do much better, same area same time seems to be getting in the 30 or 40 Mg down, and the G4 stays around 14 or 20.
Leather, the G4 is way better than the note 4 fake leather.
Size for almost the same size the note 4 has much more usable screen.
Battery, note 4 at least a few more hours...
I guess I have to send it back, why get a newer, slower, dimmer, slower downloading phone?

This is for Verizon. You wouldn't be running a CM ROM on Verizon since the BL is locked.

Having previously owned the G2 and G3, I was looking forward to the G4, however personally the camera is the only reason why I stick with it. Everything else seems like a downgrade from the G3, especially in the looks and feel. I'm glad we have root and Xposed which helps greatly, but going from the G2 to the G3 showed a large decline in dev support, and seeing as how it's been several months since release and we still have no custom ROMs makes it seem like there is going to be very little dev support going forward, even if we eventually get custom ROMs.
I don't remember wanting a new phone so quickly the last 2 years, but I've been anxiously awaiting the new phones this fall to see if there is something else that I'd like more. I'm leaning towards either the Moto X Pure or new Nexus.
Is anyone else disappointed enough in either the phone or dev support that they are looking to replace their G4 earlier than usual?
For most people the G4 is one heck of a phone, but for those of us who hang out here, no development = no fun.
I do like the G4 for the most part. It has it's issues though. Particularly the Verizon one more so from all I've read.
I mainly am bothered by the touchscreen issues. So many missed taps or swipes registering as taps instead and opening things I meant to just swipe across or whatever. Little bit of lag but it's workable.
Coming to it from the Galaxy S4 it was definitely an upgrade regardless. The only thing that really stopped me from buying the S6 edge was the piddly battery and it not being changeable. Now that the S6 edge + is out and they've beefed up the battery, in hindsight if it was released at the same time I would have bought that instead because I did like the S4 for it's time.
That's the tech world for you though, you buy something new that's the best that day and something (arguably) better comes out right around the corner.
Every point I was going to make has been covered.
The Samsung development overshadows LG development, 2 to 1.
Definitely will be a consideration on the next purchase.
Take note LG, we wont be fooled again.
I was going to sell my G4 now, but not really excited about anything out there. Probably waiting for the new Motorola X Pure. Checked selling prices on swappa and I will already lose $100 or more if I sell now. Maybe I shouldn't wait..
I already got the galaxy s6 edge+ and have the moto x pure arriving soon. The development in this and the main G4 section bores me, so i recently listed my G4 on Swappa. Time will tell if i list my Samsung, but I should at least be good with the moto for a while!
If I wasn't trying to save money, I would consider the MXP. That said, even though there isn't a thriving development community for it, the G4 works pretty well for my needs since root and Xposed are available for it and haven't been giving me any issues.

I remember reading that the Note 5 and I assume S6 Edge + are not able to be unlocked/rooted on Verizon and AT&T, as Samsung has incorporated that into Knox that the phones will no longer work if modified (or something along those lines).
I miss the days when pretty much all phones, especially flagships, had tons of dev support and were rooted quickly. Seems like as time goes on pretty much only Nexus and unlocked global phones get any support.
Bailed for Nexus 6...couldn't take not having roms....... my wife is happy with it.
Made the exact same decision. I don't miss that phone at all. Nexus 6 may be older but it still is a kick a** phone

So far love the G4, but it's only been a week, not noticing any issues thus far. Coming from a bad experience with a Sony Z3V and Verizon, who finally agreed to give me a new phone and I picked the G4. My biggest concern was the battery but I'm getting 2 days with moderate use.
Yes, for now.
In general the phone is pretty good I'm just disappointed that there is no unlocked boot-loader and custom recovery as yet for the VS986. I hope it becomes available in the near future.

I have a Galaxy S4 and trying to decide between the S6 and G4. What has me most considering the G4 over the S6 is the lack of removable battery and expandable memory on the S6. Reviews I have seen mostly rate the S6 higher as far as specs. But I can live with a slightly slower performing phone if it has other features more important to me. I don't care what material the phone is made of because I always put them in cases to protect them. You say the G4 is definitely an upgrade. What about the G4 in your opinion make it better then the S4? Also that screen issue you were referring to, is that typical of the G4 or an issue with some owners? I would appreciate feedback from any other former S4 owners. Thanks.
Pretty unhappy with my G4, even after rooting and trying several fixes for existing issues. The battery life is poor at best, the touch screen misses and issues are awful and on top of that, general lag persists throughout the day. Overall, I WANT to like the phone. I like the camera, the shape, etc. I really think we need the bootloader unlocked to have users fix these issues that LG and VZW cannot. I'm stuck on the edge plan, so I guess I'm waiting.

Well to be honest as I write this I'm working on getting myself into the S6 edge + or Note 5 now that they've come out. More on that later.
But, coming from the S4 back in June my contract happened to be up for upgrade on the exact release date of the G4, I would have been totally content to stick with the Galaxy line had they not gotten away from the removable battery and SD card support in the S6, and the battery that is in the S6 really is pretty tiny. That was the deciding factor for me buying the G4 much like you're concerned with. Other than those things the S6/S6 edge would have been perfect to me. I decided to try something new and went with the G4 on the basis they had the removable battery and SD card slot (and the changeable backs as a bonus).
Naturally with there being two years between my S4 and the G4, the G4 is faster and smoother, has a better display, better camera. That's just advancements in technology at work. Down the line we'll look at the same specs as today's flagship phones as minor leagues.
Read around here and just about any phone forums, you'll see the same things echoed to varying degrees:
S6: Piddly battery life, no SD card, no removable battery, great looking screen, fast, arguably best camera, great build with the glass/metal, quick charge/wireless charge built in
G4: Bigger swappable battery, great (larger) screen, fast but some models lag depending on carrier, arguably best camera, nice changeable backs, wireless charge not built in, some models with touch screen response issues
Like I said you'll read the same things everywhere and just have to decide what works best for you. If you're the type that prefers to swap the battery for a quick boost to 100%, don't buy the S6 obviously. If you like the idea of using wireless charging, don't buy the G4 obviously. If you prefer a smaller screen go with the S6, if you want big go G4 (Or the newer Note 5 or S6 edge + of course), if you want to try a new button scheme go G4 (I do like the rear buttons) or if you like traditional side buttons go Samsung. It's a tough call really, you get what I mean, either way it's been years since the S4 so no matter what you're going to get a better phone due to the advancements both companies have made. Compared to the S4 both the S6 and G4 will fly through processing, have better displays, have better cameras, and be more efficient. You just have to decide which features are more important to you.
Now, I know you didn't mention the newer S6 edge + or Note 5 but they've been released since the G4 was released and in hindsight if they'd been released all at the same time I'd have chosen one of them over the G4 and am probably switching over to one of them soon as I can. As I said earlier the only reason I went with the G4 over the original S6 was the tiny battery in the S6, and in the newer two phones Samsung has beefed up that department to match the G4 at 3000mah. So that said, I'm probably looking to get back into a Samsung, because when it was in it's prime, I really did love my S4.
My main gripe with the G4 is the touch screen response, which like I said if you read around you will see it is pretty common and no known fix has been brought to light. It seems pretty hit or miss but it is really frustrating.
Hopefully I helped and answered some of your questions. If not feel free to let me know.

Cwey I very much appreciate your detailed and very helpful reply. After reading it this morning I decided to get the S6. I picked one up a 64gb version a couple of hours ago and my wife got a iPhone 6S (she loves apples ). I figure with 64gb's SD card memory expansion is no big deal. I had to give up my unlimited data because I'm doing the 24 month no-contract phone payment service. I really don't use a lot of data anyway. I was on the old service plan paying for minutes and text. I'm actually paying about $10 a month less with unlimited calls and text. I looked into other phones also like the soon to be relesed Nexus 5X but the specs don't seem to be that great. The S6 Edge+ and Note 5 are too big for my taste. The larger size of the G4 is also a negative for me. Also I have the S6 with the OE2 firmware which can be rooted. The updated OF1 cannot be rooted at this time. I just have to be careful not to allow the firmware update to go through. Thanks again.
I got a Nexus 6 as well. Great phone even though it is old now. Also got a One M9 and sent it off to Java Card S-Off'ed. Also a good phone with custom roms. I miss the G4 camera a bit but nothing else.
I'll be looking at the Nexus 5X or the Moto X Pure as a replacement for the G4
I'm not sure how long i will keep it, because the digital products update so fast!
