Anyone try stock internet app from S5? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just sold my iPad Air and bought the Tab S 10.5. Didnt get here yet but been getting things ready. I see a lot of people dont like Chrome, I dont either lately, extremely buggy on everything I own. My S5 didnt come with stock browser, but I flashed one I found in the S5 forum. Has anyone done the same on the Tab S? Thanks.

The tab s has the stock internet browser out of the box. Chrome is also included which sucks with the lag in it. Firefox is great with no issues.

Appreciate it! Didnt know it came with it.

SSL errors now with the stock browser on Kitkat

[Q] Weird picture scaling in Chrome?

Hi all,
I got my Verizon HTC one a few days ago and noticed something weird that happens most often when browsing reddit. Any time I click on a link hosted at i.imgur.com the pictures are incredibly small in the too left corner. The attached file is an example.
Is this a chrome issue, HTC one issue, or both?
Chrome bug. It's fixed in the latest Chrome Beta.
Honestly, though, I would stick with the stock browser. It doesn't drain the battery as much since it's optimized specifically for the One, and it's a heck of a lot smoother.
I was going to ask that. I know chrome is stock on some phones, but everytime I try it, I go back to stock browser because chrome still isn't great on mobile. On samsung's browser, you even get your desktop chrome bookmarks so not much reason to use Chrome mobile.

[Q] What are you using for Flash Player?

My Galaxy S4 on stock rooted 4.3 displays videos on Facebook and other sites just fine using Chrome. But my G Pad will not. After clicking on a video link, I get a message that I need to install Adobe Flash player but that my device does not support it. I searched XDA and everything I found says Chrome is not compatible. But Chrome is obviously compatible since it works on my S4. Any ideas how to get around it? I'm stock rooted on my G Pad.

There's a KitKat compatible Flash Player .APK floating around the xda forums.. Basically some framework needed to use Flash was removed from Android in KitKat, that made it impossible to use Flash, but then a dev repacked this framework into Flash Player .APK itself and relinked the paths. So.. Basically you will have to search for that special .APK, (It is over in the Nexus 5 or Nexus 7 2013 forums somewhere.)
They recommend using Dolphin Browser and Dolphin Jetpack along with this .APK.. But I guess you could try other Flash compatible browsers such as Maxton, Boat and Holo Browser.
Who knows. It works at least for me.
Also Chrome isn't compatible with Flash, never have been and never will be. It must have been something else.. HTML5 or whatever they use these days. Chrome has never been able to play Flash content.
Hope this helps.
Yea, I've seen that thread about it. But I'm currently on stock 4.2.2. And I agree about Chrome, that's what I've heard too. But seriously, it works on my S4. I can use Chrome on both my phone and tablet, navigate to the same exact site, and click on the same exact link. It will play on the S4 and give me the error on the G Pad about needing flash player and my device not being compatible. I'll ask in the S4 forum to see if anyone knows why/how it works. Appreciate the quick response CuraeL.

How about the "Request Desktop Site" in Chrome drop down menu? Is it enabled on one of the devices. I reckon it will work better if it's not set to request desktop since it may use a mobile player plug-in instead. Perhaps that's the catch?
If not, then I don't understand how Chrome is doing anything, it has never been able to.. ;/
But yeah, maybe the Sammy S4 boys know something we don't, lol. ^^
Let us know what you find.

[Q] Increase Stock Browser Zoom

Is there a way to increase the pinch to zoom on the stock web browser? I would like to be able to zoom in even bigger. On the S3, one can make everything huge versus on the S4 not so much. There has to be a way. Looked in settings and see nothing and looked up a bunch of CSC options and don't see anything there either. Been searching everywhere here for an answer, trying multiple search terms and still come up empty handed.
Modified Stock, rooted, Android 4.22.

I very VERY strongly suggest you install Dolphin browser with the additional Jetpack addon. It is significantly faster than the built in browser. So fast in fact that the facebook mobile website is faster than the facebook application!
Not only that but think about the built in browser for a moment... it is never updated so you are stuck with the same version that came on your phone when you bought it (excluding flashing new roms). Dolphin on the other hand is updated often and they even implement fixes to help troublesome websites work better.

AOSP Browser seems to work on KK

One thing I HATED HATED HATED about moving to KK was the browser issue. I use my phone mostly for a webbrowser. Wow did I miss the old 4.3 AOSP experience when I went to KK. I looked all over and finally tried the installer available on the playstore.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mkrtchyan.aospinstaller
I has bookmark sync, Quickview...the two things I missed most.
Yep it does. Replaced my browser the instant we had KK. Won't work with Flash though, even after removing the appropriate APKs that cause it to fail on JB. Oh well.

Laggy scrolling in browser

Is anyone else have problems when scrolling web pages? My phone laggs pretty much in browser. Sometimes less, sometimes more. Problem can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jttoOoC8k_Q#t=00m07s
Loaded page is http://m.monitor.hr, browser is android default browser (but same problem exists in Chrome).
it is probably a lot of advertisment content inside
in my G4 is same as you - laggy
Yeh, I've had lots of problems using chrome on some web pages. Seems to be advertising.
I'm now using Opera, which runs smoother for me.
@johnny8910
if you rooted already you can use adaway app
which is adblock - very pleasant function to me

It's totally smooth here using UCBrowser (rooted + adblocked of course) :good:
It's driving me crazy, especially because I'm using desktop browse agent. I desperately need root+adblock, tried the adblock plus without root solution didn't work well.
Tried that page on mine. it's as smooth as silk with no lag at all.

Thanks
I have it installed and updated, but still get some issues.
Thanks for you replies guys.
It is true that page on video is loaded with adds, but by my old Samsung Galaxy S4 scrolls it without problems same as my 7" Alcatel tablet bought for less than 40€.
From your replies it seems that some of us have this issue and some not. I'm considering to ask for a replacement unit because I tried other unit in T-Mobile center and that one didn't have problems with laggy scrolling.
Will try to do a factory reset and test it again (shame because of lost time for settting it up).
Hard reset did not solve the problem I think I will try to get replacement tomorrow.

Will wait few days for update. Tried to update it yesterday but already on latest version.
Sorry to necro this thread, but this link might help.
I can't post links, so just Google "10 speed hacks to make chrome faster"
Basically,
You can use chrome flags to give chrome access to more memory and other thing thing that help chrome scroll smoother. Just got the lg g4 and giving chrome 512 memory seemed to help.
Firefox is laggy in scrolling, also when rooted and adaway installed. Opera or Chromium is very smooth on my G4...
