Hi,
I still don't get why Android doesnt have this built-into the gmail app, but whenever you send a picture from the camera/gallery to gmail, it sends the whole picture without asking for resize.
I use Image shrink lite right now to do the job, but am wondering what everyone is using?
Key features are respecting Aspect Ratio and not using a worthless resize algo.
Right now the default program is Paper Artist, which I don't care for, specially since I don't know how to disable all of those fruity filter overlays. I'd rather open it with something different.
Ideas?
Update: just froze Paper Artist with TB, looks like it might be hard coded to use that app

Clear defaults for that app. You Must have set it as a default. When I do a screen shot I get like 6 options. I never set a default app to handle screenshots.

You are wrong. No defaults is set for note2 and it will directly open paper artist without any choice. The edit key is junk and you must open the picture and select edit. Then you can use your own editor.
spent over hours and still cannot find a solution to make the "edit" button on notification bar to work with other app. giving up and wait for a patch
Not the best solution, but this worked for me: http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/29473/ok-android-jelly-bean-reset-app-preferences/
As the OP realized, the Note II is hard-wired to launch Paper Artist by default in that instance, even when no defaults are defined in that particular app. Put another way, it's in the stock ROM.
If flashing another ROM outright isn't desirable ( and is likely overkill ), there are still a couple of options. For the benefit of future readers who stumble upon this page :
• See if there's an Xposed Framework module that takes care of it, possibly as part of a package along with other mods. If unfamiliar with Xposed, take a look here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/framework-xposed-rom-modding-modifying-t1574401
• If the device is rooted and Paper Artist will likely not be used in any context, the app can be frozen—or outright uninstalled—using Titanium Backup. Titanium will issue a warning if uninstalling, because Paper Artist is a stock app… but it's also a standalone app and will not cause problems if uninstalled. That said, freezing is of course the safer option. Either way, the impact will be the same : the post-screenshot message in the notification panel from then on will change to "Screenshot captured – Touch to view your screenshot". Tap it and it will open in the stock Gallery, and from there the image can be taken anywhere by tapping the Share symbol at the top ("Share via…" pops up followed by a list of every app on the device that can open that file type ).
That last option may look more involved than it is, but it's only one extra step : instead of screenshot direct to editing app, it's screenshot to Gallery to editing app. Also note that whenever the editing in question involves only very basic functions ( cropping, markups, framing ), it can be done directly in the stock Gallery app, without necessarily taking it further.
When I select an area of the screen with the S-pen lasso, I can copy the image to the scrapbook.
However, this image doesn't show up in the gallery. (When I do a whole screen capture, it does show up there).
Is there any way to make the image captured show up in some folder on the gallery?
The reason I ask is that I'd like to import these images into Papyrus, and the image importer there only allows a limited number of apps to choose the image. One of them is gallery, so if Icould make the scrap appear in the gallery, that would solve my problem. Or, maybe there is some other app that works with Papyrus. For now, the best I found is exporting the scrap to Dropbox, and then pasting from Dropbox - a bit too coomplicated...

I use the Share Via function to put them into either LectureNotes or Snote. Papyrus doesn't come up in the window. If you are not "set" in using just Papyrus I'd give LectureNotes a shot

Nice! So I have to do the following operations:
1. Laso
2. Select scrapbook for receiving the image
3. open scrapbook app
4. long click on image for save in galery
5. open papyrus
6. select image tool, galery
7. import image from Scrapbook folder.
Almost bearable... is there any shortcut one can make (I notice you have scrapbook in a window. Maybe if I had scrapbook in one window and papyrus in another?)
I guess best is if Papyrus would accept scraps...

I use lecture notes quite a lot. But try this: download Adam Smith's "the wealth of nations" in pdf. Then import
it into a lecturenotes note. Painful It is 786 pages.
Import into Papyrus is almost instantenous. I think Papyrus keeps it in vector form. Which also means you can zoom in and still see nicely formed characters.

Can't you "copy" from Scrapbook and "paste" in to Papyrus? Failing that, see if "clipboard" is an import option in Papyrus. That's where the image will be after you copy it from Scrapbook.

No, as far as I can see, both of these don't work. Too bad...

When I lasso an image, I can see several options for saving it. One of those is the gallery, so why not just select it instead of scrapbook?

Strange... I don't see the gallery there. You just lasso with the S-pen button, and then get the option of save to gallery?

Maybe it depends what apps you have. Perhaps instead you could take a screenshot and crop it before you save. my gallery has a folder for edited images where these go if I do it that way.
Put ur image into Google drive, then import from there

Saving to Gallery isn't an option for me either.
Old note app
After reading all of these posts I am wondering if anyone has used the old note 10.1. I used my old note 10.1 for school. It worked very well but the digitizer broke and I upgraded to a 2014 version. It is a total disappointment. In the previous version when I last lasso'd something like an equation from a textbook all I had to do was wait a few seconds and the lasso'd image disappeared and saved directly to the clipboard. Then I could just go to lecture notes click Import image and it would be saved right there in the gallery. Why have I lost functionality with a newer tablet? Will a root fix this? Can I use the old note app and settings on my tablet? S note itself is garbage but the pin is awesome when it actually works. It just seems this Samsung is unlearning how to make tablets. All I want to do is lasso an image and have it saved directly to the clipboard.
@sendeth: The `lassoed´ material should show up when you select `Paste from non-standard clipboard´ in LectureNotes' `cutter´ menu.
?
First, I don't see that option anywhere. Second, pretty sure that won't matter since my issue is with saving, not pasting or recovering. To reiterate, this is something the old note did automatically.
Edit: I found the menu option. I will experiment with it. Still much clunkier than my old note.
Hi,
It seems like the stock camera app is saving pics taken "normally" and videos in the one folder while shots taken in burst mode (even if only 1 shot was fired) and timeshift burst photos are put in separate folders. This means that a single burst, even if there's only a single file, is in it's own folder.
This makes any gallery app a mess because it honours the folder structure first and then the user defined sort order second.
I would like a way to force the app to consolidate all my files in a single folder or find a way to force a gallery app to display them all as a single folder. The Google+ Photos app will do this but it doesn't let me choose which folders to include or ignore so it pulls all non-photos as long as there are images. I really like Quickpic but it doesn't do what I need at the moment.
Can somebody please tell me if what I've requested is possible? I am open to using alternative gallery apps.
Cheers!
So with portrait mode on the Pixel 2 it saves 2 images for every pic taken in portrait mode. Is there a way to stop that and only have it save the bokeh picture. I don't need the other picture taking up space.
while viewing the picture in the photos app. you'll see 2 mini thumbnails at the bottom center of the picture. one is your orig, one has the blurred background.
swipe the thumbnails to the right to view the original picture, and then press the 3 vertical dots at the top right > delete. you'll be prompted to delete the current photo or both photos. this option only deletes the picture(s) from your device and leaves it on the cloud.
if you want to delete it from the cloud and from the device then select the trash can icon on the bottom right, and it will ask you if you want to delete the current photo or both.
as for stopping it completely, i dont think that is an option, not that i have seen anyway
The third button from the right let's to save pick which photo to save or show as the main photo in the gallery.
I think OP was looking for a way to not have to manually delete every non portrait version.
As someone who takes a **** ton (100+ average) of portrait photos of dogs at my work each day, I see why OP is asking.
There's no such thing as photos taking up space on pixels... that's sort of the point
Portrait photos actually take up less space than regular ones. They seem to average about 2 MB for blurred and 2 MB for unblurred. So that's 4 MB total. Regular photos are ranging 4-7 MBs for me.
i am facing this weird issue where only the normal pic is getting saved not the one with the bokeh effect. i tried many versions of g cam but no result.. any solution so that i can save the potrait pic?
If you have Tasker or are willing to purchase it, you can do a shell command to automate this for you. This is exactly what I have done.
Every time I open my file manager app, a shell command will find the regular image and delete it.
