When at home I'd like my nexus 7 to be able to access & play music files which are stored on our NAS.
Original plan was to mount relevant folder on NAS as smb share & then use any music player of choice. However I've had no luck getting cifs mgr (or similar) to do this (mount folder on NAS) so am exploring alternatives.
I have enabled UPnP server on the NAS and can use BubbleUPnP to play music. However I'd like a player with a few more options (equalizer being the main one).
Does anyone have any suggestions for music players with playback over UPnP capability? Or an alternative way of doing this?
Nexus 7 rooted but running standard launcher and jellybean.
Thanks in advance....
Try Upnplay, not sure if it has the equalizer but it is very good at playing music over the network

Thanks - not sure how I hadn't found it before. Unfortunately it doesn't have equalizer in it but good to try different options even so.
Gets a CIFS manager and mount the share. Use any player you want after that. Its music and not video so it won't saturate your connection.
DLNA is great but unless your gonna do full blown media station its unneeded in your situation.

Hi im using apollo music player on my phone and now i got a nexus 7 too and using it there
but my problem ist, that the images which apollo music player displayes are way to small but the aplbum covers i implemented in the id3 trakts are much large,
so does it scale down the images
or does it only use online ones
and is there a way to force it to use lokal ones
and is there a mod for tablets?
I bought my daughters nexus 7's for christmas and took them out to get them set up and get some of their favorite games installed and load some of our videos on that they like to watch on my phone. I noticed that the stock video player on the nexus 7 doesn't play many different video formats, basically only mp4 files. The stock touchwiz video player on my galaxy s3 has played every file I have thrown at it with no stuttering and no problems. I was wondering if there was a way to get the video player from my phone onto the nexus 7, would it be possible to use titanium backup to back the video player up and just install the apk on the nexus 7s, or is it more tied into the touchwiz ui than just the video player apk? I know I can use mx player, or another one from the play store, but honestly, I have never found one that outperforms the stock galaxy s3 video player.
Yes! Thank you!

I agree 1000% percent. I have some free MKV files that came with purchased movies. I was able to copy them to my Galaxy S3, as well as AVI's, and it played them flawlessly, not conversion, just like I would play these on my Windows PC or Playstation. I too dont want to install some app from the market and additional codecs to try and get my MKVs to play. But I did try, and it doesnt work. This tells me there's something in the Samsung S3 VideoPlayer app that can play these videos, and that means it should easily be able to run within Nexus 7. I too am trying to find the valid VideoPlayer.apk to try and install it on my Nexus 7. Have you tried that yet? Let me know if you do get it to work. I really love my Nexus, but a few things irk me. No support for Adobe Flash, the video camera app is set to 480p but found posts where you can turn on the ability for 720p, and this, playing MKV and AVI files.
I am using a N 5X and the 7.1.1 developer preview and want to use one app for playing music on my device.
I have been using Play Music but find it a bit awkward to see what is on my device and what is on their cloud service. To get around this I have started to use Poweramp to play music stored on my phone and it is great but my phone does not recognise it as a music player app. So if I click on an mp3 file I get the option of Play Music or VLC to open it but not Poweramp. I have cleared all defaults etc but Poweramp isn't ever given as on option.
Likewise Poweramp isn't given as an option to associate with music on the android auto app.
Other than Play Music are there any good alternatives that are recognised as apps to set as a default for music files? Or am I (and Google search) missing something I can change in the settings to enable Poweramp as an option?

I always use BlackPlayer EX. For me it's the best music player on android.
Great design, great customization, tag editing, everything.
The free version is 100% usable so you can try.
Shuttle Music Player is pretty sweet. It's been my favorite for a while now.
I use sony walkman is really nice looking
Just use Default App Manager Lite to set poweramp as the default (it should work with nougat but i haven't tried it)
Asus Music Player simple beautiful in theme and apps section in nexus 5x section

I have tried that, the app says it is default but when I tap on an mp3 file I still only get either play music or vlc

One issue I have come across is that neither app is able to be prompted to play without manual intervention. So I have a task set within Trigger to open the music app when I connect to the car via Bluetooth, which it does, but when I press the media button in the car the track info comes up but doesn't actually start playing. Play Music does this and I am wandering if there is something I am missing?

I wanted to use AudioGlow or an xposed module (NavBar media visualizer) but whether i play musik nothing works.
It looks like the apps do not recognize that the Nexus plays sounds.
I tried SoundAbout but i cant get it to work.
I am on MOB30X 6.0.1
