So I was playing around with my phone a bit and I noticed that the app MusicFX was running in the background. I checked the next day and it wasn't running. The moment I started the music player, however, it started as well.
I didn't install this app myself, and I'm not sure if it was on the phone already, but looking at the version number, it's already outdated. Finally it doesn't give me the option to uninstall it, just disable it. I just don't know if the music player actually depends on it or not (maybe the included equalizer uses it or something), so I'm hesitant to disable it.
Does anyone else already have this app preinstalled?
I do. I'm going to go ahead and say the equalizer in the music player uses it

Interesting that google would use 3rd party software in their OS without even announcing it. I wonder what would happen if I downloaded MusicFX from the market (since it doesn't acknowledge that I have it installed). I guess there's only one way to find out...

Are you sure it's the same app? What is the full activity name in the app manager? (e.g. com.google.apps.AppName...)

com.android.musicfx - I'm almost positive that it's the same app. Same icon as well. Do you not have it? It shows up in the cached processes section of the running tab when you play music with the stock player.

I don't have a Galaxy Nexus yet. But if the activity name is com.android.musicfx, then that's a Google app. Maybe Google bought the company that made the original Musicfx?
FWIW, I use Spotify, and have been regularly seeing crash notifications for MusicFX. I just disabled it and haven't noticed any issues in Spotify playback.
MusicFX - Android 4.03
After the recent update to Ice Cream Sandwich I see an option to enable MusicFX in the music effects panel. (Settings>sound>music effects) HOWEVER it does not show up in settings when playing a song in the stock music player, which it is supposed to do.
I have been using equalizer app for months which seems to work fine with ICS.
I looked up MusicFX in the Android Market - it did not say open, rather install so I installed it. Ended up with two copies in the music effects panel, and Equalizer stopped adjusting volume levels. I uninstalled the MusicFX I downloaded and Equalizer is now working again.
It appears Google Music is not implementing MusicFX despite it being in the Options.
Some folks have reported volume problems since updating to ICS. Any thoughts/suggestions on this problem????
Many people here are using Volume+ instead of music fx and have seen improved results with it.
I have noticed in custom roms that MusicFX is being removed. There are volume issues with the Galaxy Nexus (being too quiet) and I assume (part of) the problem is this MusicFX app considering the process to get the SGN louder is to get an equilizer app like Volume+ and going to Settings>App>All>MusicFX and disabling it.

It does show up in Play Music at least. Play a song or go to the Now Playing screen, tap the menu or actions button, Sound effects. Whatever music effects app you have selected under the system settings, sounds, music effects will open. In my case, my I've selected DSPManager instead of MusicFX.

It does show up in the app, if its enabled under Settings. Stock music app being Google Music, of course.
4 Years later it's still revelant
MusicFX is still being pre-installed still. It has improved EQ, Bass Boost, and Virtualization effects for us who like to customize our listening experience. As far as I know MusicFX is pre-installed with agreements with the developer. It's probably in line with Google's vision. It does sound good. My device is a Huawei Union (Y538) with it pre-installed. (manufactured in 2015).
MusicFX compatible players use it for example, selectable in PowerAmp(has it's own sound system better than MusicFX). Google Play Music, Spotify to name a few.
Love this device, but there's two things left on my list of things to update/modify which I'm stuck on.
I rooted the device
went through the Xposed catalog
updated to KitKat
downloaded a bunch of apps like Dropbox, Google Drive, Coursera, emulators, games, synced all my e-mail/social accounts, etc. etc.
bought the Samsung OTG adapter to connect a 1TB external HDD (Game of Thrones Seasons 1 - 3!)
Later I plan on getting a controller and keyboard for games and productivity.
So the basis for this entire post;
The last 2 things I'm trying to get on my tablet is flash and Viper4Android.
My GSIII on PacRom (4.3) has flash enabled using an older version of Dolphin Browser (allows me to watch full episodes of the Colbert Report/Daily Show on Comedy Central). Also, Viper4Android works flawlessly.
I can't seem to find a solution for my Note 2014 tho.
My main questions are does anybody here know how to enable flash and install Viper4Android on the Note 2014?
What I've tried so far;
trying to enable Flash
-downloaded Dolphin/Boat/other flash enabled browsers after dl'ing the recommended files from Adobe's official website
-use the old version of Dolphin the same way my phone has it
trying to install Viper4Android
-install to System/apps then another suggestion to install from System/priv-apps (all permissions set as suggested)
-followed a few guides that talked about editing build.prop (found a solution for the Note 3, however, the lines required for me to edit weren't there on the Note 2014)
Mainly I don't expect my tablet to turn into an amazing sound system, but one of my minor gripes is that it's speakers are somewhat quiet. If V4A doesn't work for us, is there a sound hack to increase how loud we can set the volume (especially for movie watching, even MX Player's 200% sound increase is a little lacking for me)
Thanks! regardless even if there's no known solutions yet.
Here's your answer for flash, don't know about that other thing your asking....

Hit thanks if it helps.... Enjoy.
For V4A, extract the audio_effects zip and place the audio_effects.conf file in system/etc folder and set permissions. Enjoy!

This kind of works! Thanks! With one caveat however, I played a few songs using PlayerPro (bought the full version and is my preferred player) the stock Samsung Music Player, and Google Music Player; but it doesn't seem to fully function. Driver Status says Processing: No.
So I set the FX Compatibly Mode from Normal --> Compatible and selected Force Enable V4A.
Retested the three players on my tablet, and the Google Music Player has an audible difference. I tested this by putting the reverb to some ridiculous setting, and the Google Player was obviously audibly different, while Player Pro and the stock music app were the same. Can't check Driver Status in Compatibility Mode however, but it was clear GMP works with V4A while the other 2 did not.
So now, the problem changes from getting V4A to work (because it does with Google's music app!) to getting it to work with PlayerPro and universally across apps in general. Curious if there's anyway to do this? Im hoping to find a way to get V4A to work with MXPlayer and PlayerPro as well!

Make sure you delete or freeze MusicFX from your system. This will ensure that V4A is the default system sound equalizer. And of course make sure it's installed as a priv-app.

can you help me ? im having the same problem.. i did what you said still doesnt work on my tablet. What permissions do i put it , and where do i install the app? thank you!
So I flashed CM12 to my 2013 Nexus 7 and it used the audio for the keyboard that kit kat uses and I hate the way it sounds. So I went to /system/media/audio/ui and replaced those files with with the ones from my friends 2013 Nexus 7 who is on stock 5.0.2 and now it makes no sounds. So I then downloaded stock image for my Nexus 7 from Google and extracted the system.img and took the sound files from it and placed them on my Nexus and it still won't make any sound. When I play the .ogg files on my computer they all work but when i play them on my Nexus only a few play like NFC sounds but things like Lock/Unlock and keyboard clicks won't play.
Edit: So there was an update for CM this morning and upon updating the keyboard clicks and lock/unlock sounds work but they're those disgusting kitkat sounds. Is there any way to change these to lollipop?
Edit: I figured it out so this post can be deleted.
I am using a N 5X and the 7.1.1 developer preview and want to use one app for playing music on my device.
I have been using Play Music but find it a bit awkward to see what is on my device and what is on their cloud service. To get around this I have started to use Poweramp to play music stored on my phone and it is great but my phone does not recognise it as a music player app. So if I click on an mp3 file I get the option of Play Music or VLC to open it but not Poweramp. I have cleared all defaults etc but Poweramp isn't ever given as on option.
Likewise Poweramp isn't given as an option to associate with music on the android auto app.
Other than Play Music are there any good alternatives that are recognised as apps to set as a default for music files? Or am I (and Google search) missing something I can change in the settings to enable Poweramp as an option?

I always use BlackPlayer EX. For me it's the best music player on android.
Great design, great customization, tag editing, everything.
The free version is 100% usable so you can try.
Shuttle Music Player is pretty sweet. It's been my favorite for a while now.
I use sony walkman is really nice looking
Just use Default App Manager Lite to set poweramp as the default (it should work with nougat but i haven't tried it)
Asus Music Player simple beautiful in theme and apps section in nexus 5x section

I have tried that, the app says it is default but when I tap on an mp3 file I still only get either play music or vlc

Thanks for the recommendations, am currently giving Shuttle a go, solved all my issues so far ?

One issue I have come across is that neither app is able to be prompted to play without manual intervention. So I have a task set within Trigger to open the music app when I connect to the car via Bluetooth, which it does, but when I press the media button in the car the track info comes up but doesn't actually start playing. Play Music does this and I am wandering if there is something I am missing?

When I play music through the music app that comes with lineage os or the phone rings or alarm sounds the speaker crackles but if I play sounds through SoundCloud or YouTube the sound is perfect. Im guessing it has something to do with the lock screen equalizer maybe creating lag as SoundCloud doesn't have them but phone calls do and they crackle too. I have also installed OpenGapps with pixel launcher and running on the Samsung s7. Any ideas or solutions ?
Think I might move to a new rom I think this one has too many flaws at the moment .

I had the same problem and i managed to fix this like so :
It was indeed the equalizer AudioFX that was messing the audio even with headphones, disabling it didn't worked, i had to download Magisk anyway so i figured that i would remove this ****ty app with the debloat module and it worked perfectly afterwards.
In short :
- Download Magisk and flash it on your phone
- Download and install the module Debloater (Terminal Emulator) by veez21 along with Terminal Emulator on playstore
- After rebooting, in Terminal Emulator accept root priviledge and type : "su", then "debloat", select "System Priv-Apps" with 2, find AudioFX and type its number and then enter.
- After the uninstall reboot and it will be disbled for good and the crackles should stop.
Do this or just download some debloat app on the playstore idk if there is some that work...
Thank you, your solution worked for my Samsung galaxy A5 2017 with Lineage 16 ..no more crackles!
