Google account mysteriously disappeared from Accounts & sync, can't add it back - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HTC One M8, Android version 4.4.3, HTC Sense version 6.0, Software number 2.23.841.1
I hope somebody can help me out with this issue.
Today I tried to enter the Gmail app as usual, but it displayed an "Add a Google Account" option and asked if I want to create an existing or new Google account. I backed out and tried Google+, and got the same popup. Weird as I've had a Google account since I first set the phone up.
I went into "Settings > Accounts & sync" and discovered there was no "Google" account under "Manage accounts". Very odd. So I tried re-adding my existing Google account, and it seemed to add the entry back under "Accounts & sync". But after this, any time I tried to enter Gmail or Google+, I would get an error message:
"Unfortunately, Google account manager has stopped."
I decided to play it safe and do HTC backup, factory reset, then restore from HTC backup afterwards. Upon restore, it found my Google account again, and for a few hours everything seemed fine, and I could access Gmail and Google+ without any issues.
About 5 hours later I tried to enter Gmail again, and got the "Add a Google Account" popup again. When I checked "Settings > Accounts & sync", my Google account entry was gone again. Wtf!
I had not installed any new apps or changed any phone settings for a week or so before this happened - it was completely out of the blue. I do have auto-update enabled however.
At this point I have no idea how I can fix this issue, as a factory reset hasn't solved the problem, and my Google account in "Accounts & sync" keeps disappearing after a while. When I try and add it again, I start getting this error again on opening Gmail/Google+:
"Unfortunately, Google account manager has stopped."
The only thing I can think of is that a bad software update has been rolled out by Google, and is installing after a short while on my phone and nuking my Google account, but I have no idea where to go from here.
Has anyone experienced a similar issue or perhaps knows how I can fix this? Thanks for your help!
tl;dr I'm seeing a sudden problem where my Google account is inexplicably disappearing from my "Accounts & sync" section, and a factory reset doesn't resolve the issue.

Thank you for the quick reply! I tried this the first time around (before doing a factory reset) but I was still getting the "Unfortunately Google account manager has stopped" error. Just to make sure I performed the steps correctly, I should:
- Go into Settings > Apps > All
- Under the app pages for "Gmail", "Google Account Manager" and "Google Services Framework" I should press "Clear cache" and "Clear data"
Interestingly before I saw this reply, I decided to do another factory reset + restore. This time when the google account disappeared, I readded it back manually (specifying I had an existing account) and it appears to be syncing and working correctly now.
Perhaps I missed a step the first time around in clearing the cache and data? Thanks again.

I do know for a fact that Google is having server issues today. The problem should solve itself in a little time.
I'm getting a "sync is currently experiencing problems" message on my phone, and hangouts was having problems loading on my pc with a message about server problems.
EDIT: looks like it's working again for you, but not me yet. lol
I'm sure a reboot will hook me up again.

About 24 hours after posting this reply, it actually exhibited the same behaviour again: My Google account disappeared from "Settings > Accounts & sync" and it asks me for a google account (or gives an error about Google Account Manager) when I try and open Gmail/Calendar/Hangouts/Google+. Pretty frustrating! I'm not going to bother factory resetting the phone again as that clearly didn't fix the issue... fingers crossed it's a Google server problem they're resolving.

[Q] Google account stopped working and can't be deleted in SHP :-/

My Google Account in SHP stopped fetching mails two days ago, push IM for GTalk stopped around the same time. I''ve got a notification reading "Google downloading" (or something like that) stuck in my pull down bar since then. Now, I wanted to try to just delete the account and set it up anew, but...
If I try deleting the account, I get 2 error messages, one after another, reading: "connection error" and "service not available"
If I try switching of Push, I get "connection error" and "unknown error, try again".
For changing any other options for the Google accounts, error messages are similar.
Now, is there anything that I can do without resetting or full flashing the phone? Like, using sTune to get rid of the malfunctioning account.
Try restarting your phone...if the problem still exist try to disconnect your phone from both 3G & Wifi then delete that account....it shouldn't give you any errors if it is disconnected because it won't be trying to use push
Best Regards

Good idea, thank you! Tried it and still didn't work, though :-/. I fear I'll have to da a full flash / master reset again.
Please follow the described process below to solve your problem.
1. Menu => Email => Accounts => Settings => Email accounts => Delete account => (select/touch "Gmail") Delete.
Then return phone to main page.
2. Menu => Settings => Internet =>
a. Clear cache
b. Delete cookies
c. Delete saved ID/password
d. Delete database
Then return phone to main page.
3. Restart phone.
4. Register your Gmail account again.
Best of luck.

Thank you! I already resetted the phone (did too many experiments anyways...), so I can't tell you wether that would help. I'll keep it in mind for next time (hope that doesn't happen, though).

Gmail App stuck on "Waiting for sync"

Hi,
I have a rooted HTC desire with MIUI GB Rom. Everything worked fine till yesterday the gmail app suddenly stopped syncing and has been since then stuck on the "waiting to sync" page - "Your email will appear shortly". When i manually sync it, the app force closes. Even if i go into "accounts and sync" and uncheck and re-check auto-sync, the app force closes.
Googling this issue showed that tons of other folks have had this issue but I haven't found a solution. I've literally tried everything (i think):
Manual sync, uncheck and recheck auto sync, phone reboot, removing battery, uninstalling updates, uninstalling the app itself via Titanium backup and reinstalling via market, clearing cache and data of gmail app, clearing cache+dalvik from recovery, full wipe and reinstall of rom, factory reset and trying different rom, upgrading to Nikez lente ICS rom...
...but nothing has worked
Please help. What's the point of an android phone if the gmail app doesnt work
Karan
Turns out that only my account doesn't sync, If i use another email address, it sync normally. Suggestions?
Karan
Hello,
I have exactly the same issue since yesterday (Inspire 4G rooted stock GizRootv_1), though I tested the issue with CM7.1 and the problem is the same.
My gmail email address is stuck at " Waiting for Sync", at times the Gmail App FC. If I add another gmail account, stop syncing my account and I sync Gmail with the new account it works without issues.
I had tried several Factory resets adding the account with problem first, last, nothing the issue appears and is related to my account.
It looks like a Gmail problem rather than a phone/ROM problem.
Any help for troubleshooting?
Thanks

I agree it's a gmail problem but troubleshooting did not yield any results, hence the call for help
Sorry, I missed to post what I wonder if you can check in your account.
Please check if in "Google Dashboard" -> "Account" -> "Websites authorized to access the account" do you have an entry for "Android Login Service — Full Account Access".
Having the same problem you described I tried a different account in the phone and it worked, so far this is the only difference I can find is the not working account does not have the entry described above.
Thanks

It does have this piece of access:
"You have granted the following services access to your Google Account:
Android Login Service — Full Account Access"
Another dead end, I thought that having it missing was the reason I was having problems.
Please let me know if you find something, I am checking with google's gmail forum but no answer from anyone yet, I will post if I find something.
FYI, I tried from scratch three different ROMs (Stock rooted, CM7.2 & MIUI) and installed Gmail as the first app and the problem was the same in all ROMs, it does not connects using my account but it does with two other different accounts I tried, my phone is an Inspire 4G.
Thanks

Ok, today the app suddenly started working normally!! :victory:
These are the things I tried, maybe it'll help:
1) Leave gmail unsynced for a few days
2) Go into IMAP settings on pc gmail and sync nothing but the inbox
3) Take all the inbox mails and put it a new unsynced folder, so the only thing ure syncing is an empty inbox
4) Update Gmail to 2.3.6
All the best!:good:
Success!!
I finally got mine working:
What I think got it to work was going into System Settings/Data Usage then hit the menu button and make sure Auto-Sync data is checked on.
Then I went to Apps/All/Email/Force Stop/Clear Data
Then I Added the Account back in and it worked!!
Just in case, I had also previously done the following (but unsuccessful until I did the above):
I've updated the ROM, removed/re-added accounts, updated GAPPS, Revoked access/Signing in again in Google/Account/Authorizing Applications
I encountered this problem after changing the email account associated with an Android phone. Avoiding the Factory Reset, I cleared the data in Manage Applications with the Gmail apps. Contacts and Calendar synched OK, but the dreaded "Waiting for Sync" message persisted when launching gmail.
Clearing the data for *all* Google apps solved the problem: gmail, gmail storage, google apps, and google backup transport. Then I launched gmail and went through the gmail account setup process. One or more of these two things was the key: configuring the new account through gmail or clearing data from all the google apps.
Make sure Auto-sync is enabled
Press your device's < Home > button, then press < Menu >.
Select Settings.
Select Accounts & sync.
Make sure the checkbox for Auto-sync is checked.

This worked for me! No need to delete data or anything. My settings were different, as shown below:
Settings > accounts section > Gmail
Found the account (it says sync is disabled)
Clicked on the account
Sync Gmail / tap to sync now / sync disabled < I did this. It took a few minutes, and completed the sync. Yay!

Last year when this thread was opened the actual problem was related to this Gmail Forum thread: http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/gmail/jb9zyCni3pc[1-25-false]
Do a search for "AGforum0822" at Google's Gmail forum and you will find more detail.
Maybe the problem came back.

Open the "Google Play" app and press the home button to return
Go to Settings → Applications → Manage Applications
Select the "ALL" tab, Search for "Google Play Store" and press it to open.
Press "Clear cache"
Press "Force stop"
Return to Settings → Applications → Manage Applications
Press "Google Services Framework"
Press "Clear Data"
Press "Force Stop"
Start "Google Play Store" and it should give an error
Reboot.
Once your device has restarted Google Play Store should work. Wait a minute or too if it doesn't.
This should help if a corrupt cache is the cause of your problems (a corrupt cache might lead to strange error messages, amongst others). If it doesn't help, you might try the same steps but include "Clear Data" for the playstore app.
I too facing this problem
Tried al steps but no luck
Still same error

I just started having this problem.
Tried all steps, did not work.
Tried factory reset, did not work.
Phone is an LG-LS970 stock, never been rooted or had any ROM installed. Phone is the same rom and such as when bought from the store.
What can I do now to fix this?
[edit] Also wanted to add that all the Gapps are unable to be deleted as there is no option to do that. The Delete option that is on apps that I install is not even present on the pre-installed apps.
[edit 2] Wow, such empty. I was told I could get help for this problem here. Guess my friend was wrong.

Can't turn off Google Now [SOLVED]

As the title said for some reason I cannot turn off Google now today. Never had this problem in the past.
It just gives this toast message (see attachment as well):
"Failed to turn off cards due to a network error. Please check your network connection and try again."
Has anyone come across this before?
EDIT:
Clearing data for "Google Framework Services" and "Google Search" reset "Google Now".
Have you rebooted your phone and tried again?

*nods* of course.
Unfortunately not too many things I can explore with this unit. It's a stock SCH-i515 on 4.1.1.
im also having exact problem with exact phone..
hope someone can help too
Same problem, saw Maps app was chewing up battery after turning it on and now it won't go off
Using a CM10.1 build on Infuse... Grrrrr
I did a catlog dump, I believe this is the relevant error:
W/Velvet.VelvetNetworkClient( 1814): Network error: com.google.android.searchcommon.util.HttpHelper$HttpException: 500 Internal Server Error
Can you turn it off when connected to wifi?
Can you turn it off after disabling sync?
I'm just trying to think what I would do in that situation, sorry if I am no help.
Just some suggestions:
If possible clear Google service framework and then try freezing Google search.
Also deleting your google account and then setting it back up could be tried

Found a solution based on your prodding.
Load up TI Backup Manager:
-Backup/Restore Tab
-Tap Google Services Framework - Wipe Data - Yes [This step might be optional, doing just this step didn't fix it, but the next step did, so next step may be only necessary one.
-Tap Google Search - Wipe Data - Yes
-Reboot [Recommended]
Now you should be back at square one like you never enabled Google Now
Don't forget to thank the noob!

I think you may be right in that clearing data for Google Search is the only step necessary.
I had cleared data for Google Services Framework before and it didn't do anything, but after doing that and clearing data for Google Search, Google Now was indeed off.
Since this is a stock unit I didn't clear data through TI Backup Manager, but just from the plain old apps list.
I hope Google fixes whatever causes this error.
Thanks!

Can't access developer mode

Hi guys, I'm just a begginer here. Rooted my phone just today, so please be patient with me.
Going direct to the point: I can access settings normally, but when I tap into Developer options the settings app crashes, and a message appears with the saying: "Settings stopped working".
Also, all the other google service apps are not working (google books, google movies...). Google Play Store wasn't working too, but after reinstalling, the issue was fixed. I had the "System UID's are inconsistent" but solved it as well.
What can I do? I've cleared all cache, including dalvik. Will resetting it to factory fix it? I really don't want to lose all my data. Please help me, I'm hopeless
EDIT: I forgot to say that I want to access it to do USB debugging in order to restore some lost data through FonePaw Android Data Recovery.
Deselect the 'Mount namespace separation' in supersu. And then reboot and try again.
