How to revert P935 back to stock Telus ROM?

I'm currently on Avatar's JB ROM with Wind kernel, how do I revert back completely to the stock Telus ICS/GB?
It seems that HOINO's stock Telus ICS ROM is giving install errors.

Did you do a nandroid backup directly after rooting your device as recommended by most people?
If so, simply revert to that, and if you're using cwm as your recovery at least, I know it backs up your original recovery so you can just delete the cwm recovery.IMG, and rename the backed up recovery to recovery.img
Now do a factory reset, load into stock ROM and use your rooting app to unroot. Factory reset again and that should be that.
If not you may have trouble getting back to true stock, as many of the stock imgs that are around contain all bloatware removed which would require root, which should void the warranty if that's an issue for you..

i know for me i soft bricked when trying to install CWM recovery because i hadn't read about locked bootloader, and then unbricking doesn't bring you to a stock telus rom it brings you to stock at&t at which point it's impossible to backup stock telus rom.

i believe one of the ways to return to telus stock is by flashing a stock telus KDZ, i have never wanted to return to stock so i don't know the exact steps, what you need to do is find a telus kdz from a reliable source and make sure its for your model and everything, then read a guide how to flash kdz in order to return to stock you should be able to find guides on these forums if you can't then i'll try to help but i think they are easy to find

however if you want STOCK ICS experience i don't even recommend returning to telus stock rom.
if you go at&t ics rom it's better, but it has the same stability as the stock telus rom. the only thing it's missing is 2 or 3 telus apps, but you can find those and install them on your own if for some reason you need them.

all you have to do is add Telus APN in order to get your data sms and mms working. this rom is 100% stable like stock rom all he did was remove bloat and crap you don't need, i also recommend installing the ICS wind kernel as your kernel, its far better than stock and 100% stable on a stock ics rom.

unless you have an su640 if so get 3.6 ics su640
i'm also not sure if the rom i linked supports su640 u might want to check that if u have it before flashing.
i recomend using this rom because you can keep a recovery on your phone and still do backups and stuff that you can't do with a real stock rom, however this rom has everything that you would want a stock rom for.
you can also continue to test new roms as they come out until you find a custom rom you like (while still having a stock backup in CWM recovery to revert to in case needed)

[Q] Roms for 4.3 rooted phones?

Finally got Superuser installed and TWRP recovery working - Ran the Knox script. What ROMS will work with the new 4.3 OTA MJB besides slimrom?
I understand that if I update the ROM it shouldn't include a bootloader that is why I am asking this question???
Also since I have been using the stock 4.3 my battery is draining like a sieve. Anyone else having this issue?

Any rom designed for the d2att should work as long as the ROM is compatible with the bootloader.

Yes. The 4.4.2 ROMs I tried work with the 4.1.2 bootloader too.

Look at the updater script of the ROM to see which bootloaders are supported.

where is that located. Also have you tried the quantum 4.4.2 rom?

I haven't tried that ROM but I have tried Cyanfox and Validus, both of which are based on 4.4.2. I think all ROMs will work with your phone's 4.3 bootloader.
The updater script is located \Meta-INF\com\Google\android\

Ok. I have the same concern. Rooted 4.3 att stock rom. I wonder if cyanogen rom 4.3 or 4.4 would work?

You should install a custom recovery first, then install a custom ROM.

Another question: Does the modem affect the rom in any way? I am on MJB from the last OTA update. I am just a little nervous because now that I am on 4.3 I cant use ODIN to flash the old stock rom anymore. All I have is a Nan backup of the current stock rom from ATT.

Yes. I installed cmw touch when I rooted. BTW I flashed CM11-M3. Working fine. But my GPS is screwed since I went back to stock 4.1.2 via Odin.

You can install an older ROM by using mobile Odin since mobile Odin does not flash a bootloader or modem.

mobile odin is 5 bucks. is there another alternative? I saw mobile odin lite but I was not sure what kernel to use? I have twrp recovery installed. is this a good recovery to use?

Quantum & Quantum Kernal
Quantum and quantum kernal are what I've been using since the first day I rooted me phone.
I recommend using them if your looking for a fast energy saving 4.4.2 KitKat rom.
I also used Odin on my PC to do my initial root/bootload/ROM etc. I'm sure you can Google and find an installer. Its what I did.
By the way Quantum is Spectacular!!!!

Have you looked at PhilZ Touch 6 Recovery CWM Advanced Edition 6.x. This looks like it is replacing the current CWM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860. Do you have any thoughts on this?
What version of ODin are you using? I have never tried this method except for restore my phone back to factory image. Which now looks like we can no longer do?

The MJB bootloader in the official OTA 4.3 will prevent you from using an older bootloader. Odin .tar files of stock ROMs prior to 4.3 include bootloaders, installing them will brick your phone. The MJ2 bootloader from the leaked version of the 4.3 update will allow you to go back to 4.1.1 or 4.1.2. I have seen one mention of one of the devs using a difficult way to revert to older stock even after having the official 4.3 bootloader.
There is not a Odin .tar for the OTA 4.3 but enewman17 has provided a method to return to it from a custom ROM. AT&T I747 UCUEMJB Stock Restore

I haven't tried a new ROM in forever because I was satisfied with what I'd been using. Lately, though, my 4.1.2 ROM (SpeedBean All-Star) has gotten very slow and is starting to drain the battery faster than it used to. If I decide to try out a newer ROM (4.3 or 4.4), is there anything special I need to do apart from the usual wiping of everything?

If you're running a custom 4.1.2 rom you should only have to update to a newer 4.3+ compatiable recovery, such as TWRP 2.7.0.0 or CWM 6.0.3.7+, if you don't update the recovery it will most likely end up with boot looping after flashing a 4.3+ rom or possible file system corruption which ends up usually needing to go back to full stock rom to fix.

Thanks! I do already have the newest TWRP, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I found Slim 4.3.1 is the most stable with low battery and memory consumption if you want to try. Looks like 4.4 Kitkat but without bugs and shut downs.

TWRP 2.7 lets a new ROMs to overwrite system setting in root directory (preload?) and prevents them from changing back to default. Restore from backup won't help. I've had a few problems with KitKat Roms after they changed a system sound settings to "LOW". Has used ODIN to reflush back to stock.

A new build of Beanstalk KitKat by "soundofmath" works very well on my Hercules. Can't find any bugs. The only problem is battery life but this is a common problem with all KitKats.I went with "conservative" and "row" kernel setting and it helps a little.

Sounds like you are on stock rom, if so you would want to follow one of these guides here or here on getting rooted - you need a custom recovery to be able to install any custom rom, figure out what rom you plan on installing and check it's thread for what recovery version is needed.

the real problem i have is that i have already rooted i installed a rom called tweakwiz but since then my phone vibrates for no reason im trying to figure out what to do with this problem i have try to install another rom but the installation always abort and maybe i thought is because i have an old version of CWM idk but if you have a answer about this problem im having please let me know thank you

What rom (link to it) are you installing?, also it cant hurt to update your recovery if using CWM to the lastest, but if you want to use TWRP then with a 4.1.2 rom use TWRP 2.5.0.0 or 2.6.0.0, or if a 4.3+ based rom use TWRP 2.7.0.0

[Q] Trying to remember the right way.

I've been out of the loop for a while (was still running rooted 4.1.1 until last night), it's crazy how much has changed and I pretty much forgot how to do anything with my phone. I managed to get myself up to stock, rooted 4.4.2 with SuperSu installed and KNOX disabled without pestering anyone on the forums. Do I need to unlock my bootloader to use Jrummy's Rom Installer for a custom recovery and rom?
I used Towelroot (which is amazing btw) if that makes a difference.
And this is of course an att i747.

edit: I suppose I should also ask if using Rom Installer is a good method or if GooManager is still around, or should I just flash roms through recovery.

No the boot loader is fine you should be able to flash a costom recovery like always with Odin, then find your ROM (make sure its 4.3 and up) do the standard wipes and flash and you should be set......since your on 4.4.2 you can't downgrade the boot loader or modem to 4.3 or else you will hard brick

Ah good to know, I guess I was mixing the terms boot loader and recovery. Just to confirm - none of the 4.3 ROMs would come with an incompatible modem then right?

No none should....stay away from Odin flashables though.....if you just use custom Roms 4.3 onward you should be perfectly fine

I have never used ROM installer, I have used ROM manager by CWM and the lack of Roms on that app kills it for me.....can't speak for ROM installer though

I flashed the Hyperdrive RLS16 rom on my unlocked s3 att i747 but now i only have calling and no data service. I am using this phone on tmobiles service btw. Also i have provided pics from PHONE INFO hopefully that gives some more information on what the problem is and how i can fix it. Also i flashed the at&t file when you choose the carrier

That ROM appears to have a pretty old base and uses a stock kernel, and you're phone is on relatively recent kitkat bootloader and modem. You might be able to get everything working by flashing a custom kernel.

This one is the most up to date. It's Perseus' unofficial version.
Make a backup of boot using your recovery before you flash the kernel. It will be very fast; probably a 10 - 20 MB backup. Then flash the new kernel. That way if you bootloop or it doesn't work out for some reason, you can boot back into recovery and restore that backup of boot to get back to your original kernel.
If that doesn't work, you can try some of the other touchwiz kernels, or just update to a more current ROM.

Before you mess with kernels, have you made sure you're on the right APN for T-Mo? Just thought I'd ask since that ROM supports a wide range of carriers.

You should be able to get back into recovery and restore the backup you made of boot to restore your original kernel, or just flash the ROM zip over again. Either way will get your ROM working again.
I suspect that old 4.1.2 jellybean ROM you're trying to run just doesn't have right ril libs/binaries to work right with the kitkat-gen modem on your phone. Did it let you edit APN's and show your IMEI in the ROM? Either of those not working is usually a sign the ROM just doesn't know how to work with the modem on the phone.
You'll probably have better luck if you switch to a newer touchwiz ROM based on the NE4 ROM that matches the firmware on your phone or an AOSP ROM.

You are on a 4.4 bootloader and modem. That ROM says you need a 4.4 bootloader and modem in big red letters right in the OP. I think it should work with the firmware on your phone. :good:

Whatever you do, do not try to downgrade your bootloader and modem to work with older ROMs. Not sure if you've read this about this phone yet or not, so I'll put it out there. The 4.3 and 4.4 bootloaders and modems (MJB, NE4, NJ1, & NJ2) always need to be matched. Some people have reported hard bricks trying to flash a modem that doesn't match their bootloader, and those 4.3 and 4.4 bootloaders cannot be downgraded. The result of attempting to downgrade those bootloaders is always a hard brick.
