All,
Sorry about if this is a duplicate post, but can anyone confirm if the procedure http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4257045&postcount=38 is still good for rooting a G2 Touch phone?
I have been using mine for a while and am eager to be on a later version of Andriod. Do the new builds have the HTC Applications (such as bookmarks where you can take photos) or are they free of these applications?
If they don't have them, is there anyway I can add them?
Many thanks.

Do you want to root your phone or put a new rom on? Rooting the phone will only allow you to run apps which require root access, most custom rom's have root built in and can allow you to use v2.1 of android os. If you want to put on a custom rom then follow my guide in my sig if you just want root I think that guide is good.
Read the custom ROM topics to see what apps or tweaks have been made.
If your Hero is a newish uk T-Mobile one, the first method in that sig may not work. I had to use the goldcard method, what HSPL You using?

Use this guide: "[Guide] Newbie Guide to Install a Custom Rom [Updated 19/03]"
I have same phone as yours (HTC G2 T-Mobile) and did everything nice in few hours of carefulness and now my phone is happy with latest Villain 4.0 Beta2.
P.S. everything worked 100% with golden card method which is explained there in noob level.
Good luck!

The link in BTDAG's sig is the same one EDISMX is referring to,... and yes, the Goldcard method that BONESY mentioned is also explained there, by far (in my opinion) the best tut for beginners on here.
Hi, guys!
Please tell me how to root a locked bootloader stock 4.0.4 (.431 firmware) Xperia Pro.
Can it be done without downgrading??? And if not, please be kind and give me a step by step tutorial with .ftf links.
I don't want a custom rom for now, just rooting for stock 4.0.4
Thank you!
Why dont you have a look on google or xda on how to root your 4.0.4
You can find a root tutorial in the second page
Sent from my LT18i using xda premium
Check the stickied threads under the General section. The rooting method is the same.
I checked the threads before posting this and I didn't get a thing.
So, can someone please tell me with a little sense of English how to root it, because AeonWorld left me in a total blackout with his coherence and English...
And also, is it true that you can install cwm only with unlocked bootloader???

Should have checked google then. You can install CWM with a locked bootloader, but obviously can't flash a custom kernel, which most custom ROMs use.
Nevermind, everything is solved!
Now I have a beautiful rooted Xperia Pro with stock, which I heard it's the most stable and fast rom.
But now I have other questions...
First of all, what are all the tweaks I can make to make it even faster... (links please)
And the themes from arc and neo should work for pro without a problem also, right???
Use zeppelinrox's V6 Supercharger. Follow rexstor's guide. Make sure you read the original thread first.
Partition your memory card to use it with Link2SD. Follow XperiaBlog's guide to set it up.
Thanks for your useful reply (the first one around here...)!
Hi All,
Since this is my first post I am unable to ask this in the relevant thread so apologies. I was just wondering if the excellent rooting toolkit posted on the other thread is available with JB instead of ICS? I know there are guides to flashing xperia arc LT15i to JB but none I can find that don't require the bootloader unlocked..
Thanks for your support

Why would you need it? There is no JB for our phones, so it is not needed. All custom ROMs are already rooted, so you don't need to do anything.
Perhaps I misunderstand the process then, I understood that in order to upgrade phone I had to have bootloader unlocked OR phone rooted. I am basing this assumption on the information I found androidgadgematic.com/2012/09/root-sony-xperia-arc-lt15-arc-s-lt18-ics.html you mention that there is no JB for xperia but I have seen several vids on youtube that claim otherwise, but again I stand to be corrected.
In essence I have an xperia arc LT15i running GB that I cannot unlock the bootloader on and I am trying to find a way to upgrade it to JB. I have been searching here, youtube, xperia blog etc but cannot find a way to do this with bootloader locked. Then I came across the method linked earlier that seems to do the job for ICS but would like JB.
Hope my rambling makes sense...
thanks again for your time

It amazes me how many new members sign up here, come straight to Q&A claiming to have searched, this that and the other then ask a question which they could find the answer for in the stickys prefixed [GUIDE] in General.
Click the first link in my sig and read from start to finish, then you might understand a bit better.
with respect I have spent over 2 days searching this site for information, perhaps I mis-understood it or was looking at the wrong info but that does not change the fact that I have genuinely tried to find an answer myself prior to posting. I think this is borne out by both the xda link and the link to androidgadgematic. It is unfair of you to assume that I am misrepresenting myself.
I would much prefer to have found a solution myself as it is faster and avoids these situations I will have a look at the links you have indicated
thanks

I assume it based on the fact that 9 out of 10 users who say they have searched actually haven't which 9 times out of 10 is usually proven by a Google search of the actual thread title they started theirs with, and if you have actually spent 2 days looking then I'm amazed you don't seem to have read any of the stickys or JB type ROM threads either which would have answered your query of having a locked boot loader.
Anyway, let us know how you get on.
I take your point and thanks for the links I have since rooted phone and installed CWM, Someguyfromhell mentioned no JB for Arc yet I see ROMs here which is somewhat confusing can you clarify?
Thanks

The clues in the title - [CM10 Based][MIUI CM10 Based], it's not officially been released and as someguy has already said custom ROMs will be rooted anyway so you don't have to. First thing to do now you're rooted is to backup your Phone in CWM then start looking at flashing ROMs.
So after a lot of reading tonight I think I see my issue, I checked se site and ICS is available for LT15i but clearly not released by my carrier (PC companion says I am up to date on (GB 3.0.1.A.0.145 sigh). I could install the stock rom if my phone was able to have bootloader unlocked (*#*#7378423#*#* bootloader not shown in configuration menu) and apparently there is no way to do this other than pay for it which sucks!
The only alternative is to install a custom ROM that works with a locked bootloader but I cannot figure out which ones will work for me so for now I think I just have to wait for my carrier or fork out €€€...
Thanks for your help and patience

You don't need unlocked bootloader to install stock ROM. If you do it via Flashtool.
I have tried installing 4.1.A.0.562 (perhaps this is not the correct ROM) using flashtool (using flashmode) and it bombed out then I tried xpart cwm but same result just looked at your ROM link and will try again with 4.1.B.0.431
Cheers

Hi irish, just a few comments, not sure how you've read my guide and come away with the conclusion that you need to unlock the bootloader to update your ROM or why you're trying to flash 2 old ROMs when I link to the latest 587. Patience is key.
ok so a severe case of brain fart I think, back when I tried this at the start of the week the flashboot failed hence my assumption that it was related to bootloader locked and hence my chasing down rabbit holes began. Looks like it was all down to having MTP enabled!! I am flashing A version of 587 I found earlier in the week (could not fine a link a 587 ROM on your post but this post indicates that 431 is oldest for LT15i.....?. Anyway it is flashing now and I will let you know how it goes. Thanks again for your assistance. I think I have been reading so many posts and hoping back and forth I have tied myself in knots
Thanks again

Hello,
I've tried to root my S0-03D several times already, and I only managed to do so once...
Anyways, even when I managed to Root it, the Phone changed from Acro HD to Acro S.
Due to that I lost signal...
I always keep flashing my phone back to 'Stock 2.3.7 Docomo', and by doing so I can get an official 4.0.4 update.
Is there a way to Root the Acro HD while in 4.0.4 ?
Without downgrade or changing it to the non-japanese version?
I've spent a week already on this and I'm about to give up...
Right now my phone is, yet again, on Stock 2.3.7 Docomo, everything works. full Signal.
I can root it with the instructions given on the site but again, I get an X above the signal bar.
Lets say I do it again, is there a way to make the 4.0.4 Rooted Acro S => back as an AcroHD ? still 4.0.4 while keeping the root ?
Thanks in advance.
For iCS 4.0.4 have you tried this??

I have... I always get the restore/backup file not found within the system/app error.
Even when installing the apk's, it doesn't work... Is there a way to push the files into the system ? without rooting your phone, can you change files within the root directory ?
I also tried option #3 (for newer devices), but after a while I just closed the cmd window - didn't seem to do anything...
I'm running Win 8 x64... should I run it as Admin? as Win XP app. ?
1. I tried just pressing the file, which led me to the backup.apk not found.
2. running the file as Admin doesn't seem to work...
3. and running CMD as Admin and going to the dir:\runme ENTER doesn't work as well, same as the 1st option.
Anything else I should try with this method ? I guess its working for European acro S but not for the Japanese one
4. I tried the 5 step (*.bat files) method which didn't work and seemed too complicated with the error windows popping up all the time.
5. and the 2 step method, which actually worked, rooted my phone and gave me 4.0.4 but, Acro S with no reception/signal.
I'm gonna update to 4.0.4 again via the pc companion...
from 2.3.7 - 6.0.A.5.12
to 4.0.4 - 6.1.F.0.106
I'll try that method again X_X"

Running ......
Doesn't seem to do anything...
I tried editing again, this time : system-app-Backup-wizard.apk (changed 3 entries I think)
but got the same result... after I press the RESTORE button nothing changes in the CMD...
Unfortunately there's no way to push the restoreback apk in to system/app without root access. I don't have and ACRO HD, rather i had Xperia S.
Wait for some one who has ACRO S or ACRO HD to reply.

Or you can wait for the Jelly Bean upgrade, since it will release within couple of weeks i believe.

I've noticed what you said on another thread and...
You think that if I'll unlock the bootloader I'll be able to root ?
I've got 0.106 after all ...
Is there anyone who tried Option #3 ? (for new devices)
Can I just downgrade the kernel to 0.55 or 0.50/45 so I can root it and then re-upgrade to 0.106 ? (not sure if its possible, and if so, how?!)
Again, thanks :good:
EDIT:
Also, I've checked my Rooting status and it says: Bootloader unlock allowed: NO.
It said YES before I started all the flashing... I guess that updating it to 4.0.4 via PC Companion, locks the bootloader. X_X
Does it means that I can't root my phone?
Unless I flash it?
EDIT2:
I've created my own *.ftf so I'll try to root again...
FTF creation/backup :

EDIT3:
The only thing that was missing was my own baked FTF file..
Since I managed to do it, the rest of the rooting process went smoothly .. my phone is super fast, very fine tuned and rooted
Thanks to everyone who showed interest in this thread and tried to help me..
Have a great weekend!

No prob.
Though in the upcoming weeks we should get a new official JB update ..
I guess the procedure of rooting it will be the same...
you should start a japanese QnA thread or just a simple japanese general thread and share what worked for you specially because your acro hd doesnt have its own dedicated forum, since it was made specially for the japanese market [though i think one could be made as a subforum here in s-acro s-ion forum]
us filipinos have a philippine thread in the general forum and everybody shares what worked for their device so that others could learn too
I'll just post the steps here :
1. if you have 2.3.7 just connect to the computer to get the official 4.0.4 via Sony PC Companion.
2. once you have 4.0.4 just back it up by following the steps in this link:
http://mytechencounters.wordpress.com/2012/06/12/how-to-create-an-ftf-file-of-your-xperia-ics-firmware/
That's how to create your own Official 4.0.4 with the japanese kernel/firmware.
3. Once you created your own 4.0.4 FTF file continue to this link:
Japanese Ver.http://blog.huhka.com/2012/11/xperia-acro-hd-docomo-so-03d.html
English Translation http://lemmymorgan.com/root-sony-xperia-acro-hd-soi12-sony-xperia-acro-hd-so-03d-sony-xperia-acro-s-in-two-quick-steps/
There's a list of files in both sites, download everything just in case...
You'll end up with 3 *.FTF files ...
1. The one you baked - Acro HD 4.0.4 - to keep the official japanese kernel
2. The generic - Acro HD 2.3.7 - for root step A
3. the easy to root kernel - Acro S 4.0.4 - for root step B

Hi guys,
VERY new to the Android world so appreciate your help. Just got a new Xperia SO-03D from NTT in Japan and am looking to root my phone after reading about it.Tried several "one-click" rooting solutions found on youtube and neither worked. From what I can tell, many solutions were done on ICS 4.0.4 with older build numbers but the one I have (6.1.F.0.128) seems to be too new to have any solutions that works? I then stumbled upon this thread and before I venture onto what looks like a more complicated way to root this phone, does anyone know if this should work with the build number? In case anyone is wondering, I am in Japan and plan to stay with Docomo. However, I don't read Japanese (yet) so am leary to try solutions posted by Japanese developer community. Appreciate any help you can provide!
By the way, I did backup my phone via PCCompanion so if I try and fail (and brick the phone), I should be able to bring it back right? Company phone so can't afford to brick it for good

A friend suggested another one-click solution and this one actually works. Since I'm a noobie, the forum won't let me post the url. If anyone else needs it, try googling xperia hagurekamome rootkitv3.
I was able to root the phone and installed Titanium to verify root. Just drop the link into google translate and it's pretty simple like other one click solutions. Hopefully this is helpful to someone later too.

You can try to backup your phone first and then roll-back to 2.3.7 with the PC application.
after that do the 4.0.4 update and create your own *.ftf file:
after that you simply flash it while mixing it up with the 4.1.2 *.ftf, keeping what you need from your official update, so it will work with your provider. (get cellular bars, etc.)
Just go through the links I provided or search for my old messages on the forum, I'm sure you'll find a fix.
btw, do you have Acro HD or Acro S ?

This thread is for people with ACRO HD
ACRO HD => japanese version
ACRO S => other countries
Its easier to flash ACRO S, and it still get updates from time to time.. unlike the japanese ver.
So you should have it quite easy, rooting the flashing your phone... If I'm not mistaken Acro S got an official JB update...
try some other threads ... and you can root/flash/update easily with 1 click softwares ...
just search the forum
Have a nice day
Is there an easy & safe way to do this ?

The flashing part sounds confusing
If I tried the root & I have problems can the incomplete root be taken off my phone ?
Do I downloaded the latest one here from this month instead of the one thats in the post ?
