Never attempted before....what do I need to convert dvd's to the Galaxy Nexus?
This is a noob ? I have never done this and need all the best but easiest tools and advice.....and what are your experiences with movies on Galaxy Nexus...
On Mac osx I use handbrake to convert, using a pre set that I found for the Motorola Xoom.

Xilisoft Video converter works good also.
G
Great question! I too am interested in how to do this.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
you need to crack the DRM on the DVD (legal here in the UK) then I would use Handbrake to convert it to x264 at 1024x576 (assuming it's widescreen) or 1024x480 (if it's NTSC and widescreen) with around 2-4Mbps bitrate (depending on how much space on the SD), same fps as source, stereo sound (aac) with bitrate of around 128kbps
I am using a Windows computer, and I hear Handbrake is good. Anything more simple to use for a first timer?
I use DVD Catalyst. It costs, but it does a great job.
Does the inbuilt video player play avi OK? I used to use rockplayer for it on my old x10!

avi is only a container. The actual codec used could be one of many.

Go to vuze and download that program it's free, then go to extratorrent.com and search for whatever movies you want find a good quality which there's usually screenshots. Download that movie using vuze, after it downloads go find it in the vuze file folder and move it to the phone. It takes as long as the movie takes to download instead of converting and other crap. Best part is its all free.

The bad thing is it's also illegal, of course depending on the movie you are downloading. Owning the movie on a DVD does not make it legal to download one from a torrent site...

And, i never said it made it legal It's the easiest and cheap way to do this instead of buying expensive programs and spending way to much time converting a movie. I've done this for years and no problems. They are looking at people who sell the torrents that are downloaded and make money at the studios expense.

Nevertheless, you're still encouraging others to participate in an illegal practice, which is a violation of XDA forum rules.
Has anyone seen John Connor?
Download AnyDVD trial and any DVD ripping software of your choice. AnyDVD will remove any of the copy protections that disc has so that you can actually make a digital copy for yourself.

Question: With a mkv having 720p video and digital audio, is there a program that lets me convert the audio to AAC w/o touching the video at all? MKVs play on my Nexus via Mobo Player fine but there's no audio. I've had the same issue with an ASUS Transformer tablet.
Just wanted to let everyone know that Slingplayer for tablets is half off. Regularly priced 29.99, now priced at 14.99. Looks great on my Nexus 7 and Xoom. Quality and controls way better than the phone version. Good way to spend some of your 25.00 Google Play dough.

I really need to bite the bullet and buy a Sling box. I watch only 3 channels though :silly:
Definitely worth it if you love sports. NHL package on the go

Dish (which owns sling now) dropped AMC so I won't buy this. Even at $15 it seems too much, on top of this I read elsewhere that its restricted to one device. Can't be installed other Andoid devices.

I can't speak for the Tablet version, but I have the Phone version installed on multiple Android devices.

What you can't do is watch on multiple devices simultaneously. No other restrictions at least AFAIK.
The tablet version works very nicely on my new Nexus. But I'm glad for the Play Store credit + sale.
I hate that I've already payed for my SlingBox and still have to pay for an app. An expensive one at that.

Ah. Gotcha. -- I only have a single SlingBox PRO-HD so I never ran into a condition trying to use the application on multiple devices simultaneously.
I just purchased the Tablet version too with the Play Store Credit. Works great on the N7!
Cheers,
Kermee
Glad I got my Slingbox for FREE!!! I haven't used it in months, but I may have to try it out again. I'm usually always home, so I don't need to use it much...I might even actually buy the app for $15, I didn't buy it at $30...haha
I know this has been mentioned before, and we sound like a broke record. But in my frustration I must say this again.
It's impossible to find any Samsung accessories on any online retailers besides eBay at outrageous prices.
Been trying to find the HDMI MHL adapter: 3PHPBEGXAR
For the Note 10.1, and after 10 pages on Google full of retailers that are OUT OF STOCK, it's clear Samsung has no intention of making customer's happy after their initial purchase.
Even Asus, a much smaller company has made their accessories available at my local retailer at a good price let alone online.
This is unacceptable.
Could be. Try here. I just got my book cover from them.

Send it to my business and I will forward it to you.
PM me if you would like to. You pay the exact shipping nothing else. Just trying to help.
Thanks for the offer. Appreciate the kind gesture. I decided to order the Tab 7 dock instead, on Amazon. $27 shipped to Canada.
XDA Users report it also works for the Note 10.1
CostCaption has some rather hideous ratings on http://www.resellerratings.com/store/view/CostCaptain/page/2
I'd be careful before ordering from them, especially if the product has to take detour first.

I totally agree, its soooo hard to find accesories for note 10.1. It would be great if they do something on this area coz i really love my note.

+1 scandalous pricing for the HDMI cable and still not dedicated HDMI / MEDIA Dock, Apple are expensive but at least the gear is available. SAMSUNG FAIL. I've order the tab7 dock to, looking forward to my little DIY project.
What tab 7 dock are you guys talking about. The ones I've seem have corners that would prevent the note 10.1 from fitting
just bought a All in One card reader, CF, Sd, MS, microSD, for the galaxyTab... works fine on Note10.1
bought it at the market in Vietnam for 10$ ^^ No offical accesoir tough.
Dude, if you register your device on Samsung's website, they send you a 50%-off code. I got the $99.00 AllShare Cast Media Hub for 49.00 & the desktop dock for like $15.00. I also picked up a navigation mount with USB auto charger for the GS3 for $10.00 (nicest nav dock I've seen in awhile, very solid.). You can use it for up to ten items on Sammy's accessories on their website.
All share cast is not available on Samsung website

I love the way GameKlip works with Nexus 7. Unfortunately, I couldnt find a similar solution for Moga Controller. They ship their product with a tablet stand, which is not that great. I saw a video somewhere that showcased a Moga ProA controller with Nexus 7 Mounted on it. With high hopes, I contacted MogaAnywhere and they informed me that there are no plans to support Nexus 7 as a mounted device. I requested them to not drop the idea since I had already seen their video cast showcasing the controller's ability to hold a Nexus 7 properly.
Anyways, while we don't have a solution by the seller itself, I was wondering if there are any third-party solutions out there (similar to GameKlip with PS3 controller) that can be used to achieve this.
All thoughts suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've been looking too and haven't found anything yet. I was a little annoyed when I saw the promo videos with the old Nexus 7 being used with the Moga just fine, but tablets that size aren't actually supported by the production unit. Seems like a bad decision on their part to exclude 7" devices.

I was exchanging emails with their customer service rep last week, and I strongly put in a case to not drop the idea. Requested them to forward my email to their design department for review and a possible suggestion which the rep confirmed would be delivered. I would say we should start sending them more emails. Maybe it will help them change their minds.
Uncomfortable after 30 mins of use (Nexus 7 2)

Hi guys, I made my own makeshift mount to use the Nexus 7 2 with the Moga Pro with some Velcro and a old book that I used as a case. Working nicely and pretty sturdy.
I tried it out on my commute home (30 mins on the train) and I found the weight distribution with the Nexus mounted was not good. Therefore it felt pretty uncomfortable towards the end of my journey. I guess maybe that's why Moga is not keen to support anything bigger than a Note 3 mounted on the Pro.
Just wanted to share my experience to anyone who is considering using the Nexus 7 mounted on the Moga Pro. The Moga Pro is still great and I would recommend anyone who wants to game on Android to get it.
