Just wanted to let everyone know that Slingplayer for tablets is half off. Regularly priced 29.99, now priced at 14.99. Looks great on my Nexus 7 and Xoom. Quality and controls way better than the phone version. Good way to spend some of your 25.00 Google Play dough.

Dish (which owns sling now) dropped AMC so I won't buy this. Even at $15 it seems too much, on top of this I read elsewhere that its restricted to one device. Can't be installed other Andoid devices.

What you can't do is watch on multiple devices simultaneously. No other restrictions at least AFAIK.
The tablet version works very nicely on my new Nexus. But I'm glad for the Play Store credit + sale.
I hate that I've already payed for my SlingBox and still have to pay for an app. An expensive one at that.

Ah. Gotcha. -- I only have a single SlingBox PRO-HD so I never ran into a condition trying to use the application on multiple devices simultaneously.
I just purchased the Tablet version too with the Play Store Credit. Works great on the N7!

Glad I got my Slingbox for FREE!!! I haven't used it in months, but I may have to try it out again. I'm usually always home, so I don't need to use it much...I might even actually buy the app for $15, I didn't buy it at $30...haha

ebay selling the original KF for 99 bucks today. thinking about getting one but want to know if its worth it or should i just spend 200 for the nexus 7? any advice?
Hey buddy,
Ask in the general forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1307, since your question doesn't relate to android development, people here will just tell you to go buy an iPad already.
Hey man,
I think that you should probably just get an ipad.
What can you afford?
If $99 is all you can afford, then go for it, but don't get it just cuz it's cheap, that's not why a person should buy a tablet.
If you can afford it, the Nexus 7 is currently the best android tablet money can buy at the moment, because of support, features, performance, etc.
If you want a really good tablet experience though, the iPad is hard to beat in terms of support, amount of apps, screen quality, performance, battery life etc. etc. Unless you need a particular android feature, and you can afford one, iPad is the way to go.
whoops not sure why i posted this in dev. meant to go in Q&A. thanks for the advice ordered the ipad

I got mine for 79 including shipping on a referbished special. BUT I bought it mainly for reading at night which my older Kindle with 3g is not good at. After rooting and shared launcher I was pleasently surprised that compared with my larger tablet it was easy to grab for quick trips that I might need to do some browsing. Also its easy to watch movies and access prime through tether on my phone. If you want to spend 99 bucks on limited use than go for it.

Anybody have one or planning on getting one? I'm kinda bummed I'll have to get another one (already have MHL) dumb competing standards. The few available on Amazon seem overpriced (in the $30 range) for a chunk of plastic and some wire.
Buy the one from analogix. That is the official one and it does cost $30. It is pricy when compared to regular MHL adaptors, but its worth it if you plan on using it.

What the cable gets you that the chromecast doesn't is direct streaming of content. chromecast does not currently support file playback through gallery. All direct streaming from the device (not from the internet) is "beta"
So say you want to play an MP4 file, you'd need this

I didn't even notice the port was not MHL. What nincompoop opted to go with this rather than MHL? Maybe I don't know something I should here, but hasn't MHL been around for a couple years now? And is there anything allegedly superior about slimport that would make it desirable over MHL?
This is just a little disappointing to me because both of my Samsung phones use MHL and at this point my backpack is already the subject of Guantanamo style field stripping every time I fly international.

MyDP (SlimPort) adapters are appearing on eBay for less than $20USD which I think is pretty good value. SlimPort has some clear advantages over MHL (scaling/no need to have charger plugged in etc).

Haha no worries. That's true. It will take a long time to arrive. They've just been really hard to get even through Asia so just thought I'd let people know since I came across them. Thanks.
I'm looking for one too. Even the one on ebay cost around $20 from china. Not counting waiting for over a month for it. Bought more than a few items from china, and only about 50% of them ever work.
Just be careful with the non analogical brand slimport adaptors. People from the N4 were having problems with certain ones. You can check in the N4 accessories thread as there is more information about them there.
I can confirm that the official one works perfect.

No clue about this guy. I have a Netgear PTV3000 that works pretty well for screen mirroring. I use it for streaming media. For gaming I use the Analogix Slimport since wireless mirroring addsd latency.
Would like to hear people's reviews about the Asus product as well. I guess will have to wait till it's release and someone tries it out.

AllCast is definitely a great video streaming option, especially for the cross platform (I have only tested it out on my Samsung TV). But, it is rather limited, at least at this time. Currently, it will only stream videos that are on your phone. It won't display pictures, stream other video services (Netflix, VUDU, etc), or even do mirroring. Hopefully, it will have these features in the future.
As for a mirroring device, I have high hopes for the ASUS Miracast Dongle. Hopefully, the dual bandwidth will cure the latency issues with the current wireless options. Unless I see reviews of it being a complete failure, I will be purchasing one of these.
Anyone seen when these will be released?
$100 for this is just crazy... and people complain about Apple's pricing?
android tv stick is a better choice
i recommend to buy an android tv stick like tronsmart mk908 or t908. it is a standalone pc stick and can even sstream everything via miracast.
it is much cheaper. chromecast or asus dongle are very limited of its functions.

Miracast actually mirrors what is on your phone/tablet screen; of course your device has to have official Miracast hardware support. (think of it as wireless hdmi with a slight lag). With Chromecast, you have to use an approved app on your tablet/pc/phone, and those apps essentially send a special secured link to your Chromecast device, Chromecast pulls the link, and Chromecast processes it & displays it on your TV. Or, you can mirror a chrome tab from your pc/mac; this only works with some (not all) websites.
I almost jumped on this at $30, now its $20? Can anyone that actually has it confirm that it works ok with the Moto x? The reviews are less than stellar, but I'm really interested in getting one. Just trying to decide whether to spend more money on one with better reviews. I would be using it for watching tv/movies from my device. The main issue I'm worried about is audio sync, absolutely annoying during a movie. A little stuttering is fine, but out of sync for 2hrs would be unbearable.

Can you provide additional info on how this particular dongle worked for you? I have just gotten into Miracast, and am looking at dongles etc. I have looked at Netgear's Push2TV and Actiontec Screenbeam Pro. I was very skeptical about these smaller manufacturer dongle...so I would appreciate your input on this dongle you bought.
BTW, just remember that as far as Laptops/Computers go the computer HARDWARE must be Intel certified for Widi to work, even though Windows 8.1 has Miracast SOFTWARE. So for now I am stuck using only my phone/tablet natively.
Thanks for any feedback!

Well it worked if I was on the same wifi even though it didn't need the net to be on in order to work. Since the chrome cast option came out I didn't really worry about using the miraicast anymore but wanted to try it out. I'm sure it will work even better with a higher priced miricast doggle but ya again it works but for hotel wise I just went with my android doggle it always plays anything perfectly fine and it entertained all of my gf and Is roommates a ton.
