[Q] USB connection to PC charges only? - T-Mobile LG G3

I have a new G3 through T-MO. It is completely stock. I cannot get my PC (Windows 7) to recognize it as a drive, I have installed the latest drivers manually. Is there a setting on the phone that I can't find? This is killing me! I don't want to install the LG bloatware to manage files, I don't need that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Did you figure this out? Enable the Developer Options yet?

-Do you get a USB connection notification on your task bar at all? You absolutely should. If you do, swipe down, select it, and make sure MTP is selected
-Are you using the cable that came with the phone?
-Have you tried a different USB port? Different PC?
-Make sure you have a good cable first. Once that is a known good cable that possibility can be ruled out. Even if the cable is brand new, it can still be a bad cable...
-Try removing your USB host drivers in device manager, and rebooting. Sometimes they just need to be refreshed. Don't worry... You mouse and keyboard may stop working during this. The reboot reinstalls them, so don't sweat it.
-Run an error check on your PC's hard drive. (Right click your primary drive > properties > tools tab > check now > leave the settings alone > click ok > confirm scheduled check > reboot)
Please update with your results

A solution
I had this problem and the solution that worked for me in Windows 7 was to uninstall all LG drivers, restart the computer, connect phone and allow Windows to auto install its drivers.

[Q] Help! - New to Android, cannot transfer files via USB connections

Hi all...I am new to XDA forum, but have been browsing in the trove of information to help with my problem. At the end I am resorting to posting a new thread to hopefully help me in resolving this problem or provide a good explanation why it does not work.
Problem: I am trying to use the USB cable to transfer files to my SD Card. (I am not sure what reason, but someone has informed me that either Samsung's proprietary software Kies does NOT work, you can only transfer using Samsung KIES Air...which is painfully slow.)
Now here is my situation:
1. I have a Bell Canada - Samsung Galaxy Note-2
2. The Phone has been unlocked and rooted (using Odin)
GOAL:
- I don't care if I need to transfer files to the SD card, and then sort the files out afterwards on the phone.
- Primary goal is to allow me to transfer files (music, mp3, etc.) via USB cable.
Your help is greatly appreciated...in providing some sort of clear cut instructions or directions.
Thank you in advance.

I know you didn't ask for this, but could you possibly use Airdroid? It has always been reliable for me and honestly it's my best solution for myself because we don't actually have UMS anymore, sigh.
Airdroid Vs. Kies Air
Thanks for the response and recommendation.
So is Airdroid? better or the same as Kies Air?

I've never used Kies so I can't say!
But basically, you download the app from google play and go to web.airdroid.com and you type in the code that you see in the app. From there you can read your phone's text messages and transfer files and do other things via your wifi connection. File transfer on my (good) wifi network is fairly fast (about the same as using a usb cord) and it's good for me because I personally use Ubuntu and Chrome OS, so the USB storage options don't work or don't work well.
usb driver
All you need is go to samsung website and install the usb driver. You should have an option to do this during the kies installation too.

Just in case, make sure that MTP is checked in USB computer connection.
*Settings>Storage> Menu button>USB computer connection> check Media device (MTP)*
I know it may seem obvious to some but it does get overlooked sometimes.
Cheers!

In regards to the downloading the 'Samsung Driver' I have already attempted that, and with no luck of cooperating. Under 'device Manager' in Window 7. The listed device when I plug-in the phone is "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" with an exclamation mark. I have been trying to try the driver files so I can 'direct' the appropriate drivers file. But no luck locating it. The Samsung Kies installation mention that it has installed, but no luck.
MTP Option:
In regards to the MTP, I do not have that option available on my phone, the only thing avaliable is through the 'Developer option -> Checking/Unchecking USB debugging'
Please Help! :crying:
I have download the driver form the Samsung.com website.
Now, It doesn't technically allow to choose my specific phone model, with my carrier (BELL), so I went with the closest ATT.
I have located the folder with the USB driver, and force window to look through it.
But still windows says it cannot find the correct driver for my device....this is getting frustrating.

That is odd. Do you have a Storage category under System Settings? It should show you available space on internal and sd storage. What happens when you hit the menu button? (button to the left of the home button)
When you connect your USB cable, do you get a notification that says "Connected as a media device"?
Heres what you do.
Make sure you have current samsung usb drivers. Redownload just for fks sake.
Yeah idk wtf ms prob is but its got issues with samsung phones.
So ok drivers gtg?
Plug in phone
Wait for annoying pop up.
Leave phone pluged in and on restart computer.
You should get the all clear but first it may give you the cant recognize drivers thing give it a min should work.
Other solution

Basically just keep going back and forth witj mtp and mount you should kick it in.
And you may need to restart computer.
Sgs3 easy wotks pretty good for me.
You gotta make sure you have the microsoft mtp update installed.
Pia I know.

I'm sorry. That is my bad. It looks like those options are not available on the stock rom. I thought they were. The option is there on CM.
It looks like it is probably a driver issue. If your computer is not recognizing your device when it is plugged in, it could also be a bad USB cable. If you can try a different cable, see if something different happens when you plug in your phone.
Worst comes to worst, you may just have get a card reader and connect your sd card to your computer that way.
1. Is cable good? It may be sending incomplete signal. The fault could be your device's usb port or cable or pc usb port.
1a. test device with another known working usb cable
1b. test cable with another known working device
2. Is PC port good?
2a. Plug a different, known working USB device into port, do other devices work?
2b. Plug device into another usb port on PC, not into usb hub or front usb ports.
2c. Does it successfully connect for transfer with another PC?
3. Is driver good?
(This is most likely your problem, but a bad usb device, cable, or port can make it more difficult to troubleshoot. )
3a. Re-download driver. BUT BEFORE YOU DO...
use a different browser to download or delete your browser's cache. (Attempting to redownload may just be grabbing the already known poor copy.)
3b. Run Windows Update after driver is installed.
If still having problems.
Search for, download, and run the portable program usbdeview. Attached USB devices will be highlighted. See if it shows up to the system and what it is being recognized as.
It sounds like either a bad driver install or conflicting program/setting.
Turn off antivirus temporarily to rule that out.

Can't get Nexus 7 to show up on computer

Shows up on my laptop but not on my desktop, have tried back and front USB ports
have uninstalled USB drivers, reinstalled USB drivers (universal adbdriversetup6 downloaded from xda sources)
downloaded android SDK manager and installed whatever USB stuff it had there
used USBdeview to remove any nexus 7 related things and then re-install USB drivers
Cannot for the life of me figure out what's going on... can anyone help me please
When I plug it in my desktop it makes the sound like something got connected... even has the safely remove hardware thing with nexus 7 there, but nothing in my computer
also have tried with/without USB debugging
tried removing my rom and flashing stock etc
Nothing has worked so far
and yes forgot to put in the title but this is for the Nexus 7FHD 2013
Is there a chance you are using usb3.0 port and can switch to usb2.0?
I would suggest you backup, flash stock, and redo your driver deinstall/install on stock. Try to get it working there first. Make sure USB debugging is disable on stock.

Driver instal with WinXP
I went around with this problem after both my Win7 laptop and WinXP desktop both recognized my N7 2013 the first time I connected to them. I had no problem dragging and dropping files.
I had then returned the tab back to BB for a exchange for another. This time after setting up the tab and setting the MTP file toggle and USB settings correctly......The Win7 laptop worked find and recognized the N7 just like it did on the first tab. But now the WinXP desktop did not work and only saw the N7 as a ABD device.
You may already have the correct drivers (if not those are available here in several posts). You just have to direct windows driver update to the correct place for the MTP driver. Here is how i did it.
1. Open up the Device Manager on your PC and locate the Android device it sees. Select the update driver option and you get to the "Welcome to the Hardware Update Wizard" screen.
2. In this window it asks "Can Windows connect to Windows Update to search for software?" Select the 3rd option ' No, not at this time"
3. In the next window "This wizard helps you install software for...." Select the 2nd option "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
4. In the "Please choose your search and installation options" window... go down to the bottom and select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install" option.
5. Now finally the window we need..... "Select the device driver you want to install for this hardware" The "show compatible hardware" button should be selected...if not check that box. You should see 2 choices in the "Model" area..... Google Nexus ADB Interface" and what we need to select " MTP Device" click on the MTP Device and hit next......it should install and your Nexus 7 should then show up properly.
Hope this works for all that have had a hard time as I did....I just found it odd after getting a replacement N7 my XP desktop did not recognize it as it did to the original one I used the day prior.

If nothing else here has helped you solve this issue, check my thread, it should be of some help to you...
I'm having an issue where I can connect to my laptop in debug mode, but I'm not able to connect in the MTP mode with debug turned off. I expected to be able to mount the device storage in either mode.
Is that correct? If so, any ideas? I do notice I can't seem to get the MTP driver to stay in device manager.

[Q] HTC M8 not being seen in adb

OK using a windows 8.1 Pro laptop, ADB installed properly with HTC Sync Manager, both Windows, HTC Sync Manager and the Device Manager in the Control Panel can see my phone. I tick on USB debugging and then press revoke USB debugging authorizations. Unplug my phone and plug it back in. I'm using the original USB cable from HTC. Everything pops up and shows like it's connected, except when I type in
Code:
adb devices
in the command prompt, then it just comes up blank. I've attached screen shots so you guys can see what I am talking about. If you have any ideas it would be much appreciated. I've attached some photos just to show that I've dotted all my i's and crossed all my t's as far as I can see. I also want to point out this is the second computer I've tried this on.

That's normal as the phone is using MTP, the Android Phone entry only appears once the drivers are installed. It's definitely a driver issue but as to what I can't say as I have no issues on my 8.1 Pro laptop
I think I figured something out, just flash CM 12 - (God it's amazing. ) and now I can see my phone on ADB, so whatever ****ery was going on I am blaming it on HTC stock rom.

is cm12 worth the hassle?
Sorry for the necrobump, but I ran across this thread while researching the same issue on my M8 and wanted to save anyone else the trouble if they also stumbled across this same issue.
Though the solution discussed would likely work, if you don't want to hassle with a new ROM, it is possible to fix it on your existing ROM provided you have root.

Thanks for this guide you put up. Interesting that there was no option for you to revoke USB authorization. My device is S-ON and have been using Viper for a while with the option available. Same for HTC stock. Good for you getting that fixed. Had a similar issue on a different device months ago.

i am not getting any popup.
Check the sliding switch on the right hand edge of the op3 is "down" to allow ALL notifications. There are plenty of "install OP3 drivers" videos on Youtube. Windows drivers are also on the phone.
This should still work - the drivers are also supplied on the phone. Doing nothing other than connecting a op3 to a windows pc should cause a cd drive to appear in Windows Device Manager and in File Explorer (look under "This PC") for "CD Drive (drive letter: OnePlus Drivers" . Double Click the icon and run "OnePlus_USB_Drivers_Setup.exe". If you are running a recent version (and clean installed in the last few months) of W10 Pro then you may hit driver signing issues

As regards the attaching of files, you have to have a minimum number of posts to be able to do that.
As regards the USB, be a little more specific like what you are trying to do, which ROM you are running, whether you are rooted, what happens when you connect the phone to PC etc which will enable the members to help you.
There could be several reasons for this, but lets start with the basics.
Have you tried a different cable?
Have you selected File Transfer (MTP) from usb options?

I get a windows sound like its connecting then in the bottom right where the time is next to that is a root sign then I get a pop up saying exactly.....The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it. Recommendation.. Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognize it, your device may not be working properly. When I go to the Device Manager/Control Panel it doesnt do anything. I've tried to add adb to the path but maybe added it to wrong path now it won't come on. If there is a work around maybe to re-add to right path. Device Manager was fine before I added adb and added path as per internet search. Device Manager before would say something like error 39. I've tried MTP that doesn't get it to open up either.

On my son's pc running windows 10, I didn't have any issues connecting my OP3 to it and viewing files, nor did I have to install any drivers, same for Windows 7.
Hook phone to pc via usb cable.
Pull down notification bar and select "File Transfer" from usb options or go to Settings and search USB and select USB Preferences > File Transfer.
Browse phone from Window's file manager.
If still having issues, you can try and install Oneplus USB drivers, reboot pc and see if the phone can be recognized.

If you are running Win 10, you will have to disable driver signing before the correct drivers are installed. May be that was your issue.
