[Q] Factory Format on Rooted Z1 Compact - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, just have a quick question, any help appreciated -
Will a factory format (*2767*3855#) cause any issues on a rooted Z1 Compact with unlocked bootloader running CM11?
Its bit of a weird one, I installed LiquidSmooth rom other day but didnt really get on with it so went back to CM11. I now cannot change the wallpaper which is still that of LiquidSmooth (purple background) & theres no option anywhere to allow me to select the lock screen when I go to change wallpaper and its not anywhere in settings.
I understand I may lose root but should be easy enough to re-do.
Please let me know if I'm looking at this wrong, still new to this, many thanks.

If you want a clean device use the Flashtool to do a full clean wipe, trying to do it in a halfarsed manner can be more time consuming and troublesome in the long run.

Xperia Arc S - Help With Install Cm9

Hello everyone,
im new in this forum, and two devices with android, the first is the "asus transformer prime" and the second is a new cellphone - Sony Xperia Arc S - and this is the problem.
I really dont like what sony do the android, the interface, beside iam very familiar with standart ICS in my "Prime" so i search a bit and found some posts about Cyanogen 9 (talking about performance ans stuff), but in that same posts i read that CM9 is only for "Xperia Arc" not "xperia arc S" and i need to use some external "kernell" to be loaded.
My questions are:
What i need to do to install CM9 at "arc s"?
What the procedures?
I need a external "kernel" or just extract the zip (cm-9.1.0-anzu.zip) and get the *.img ?
What is the easyest method to install it?
Can send me a easy guide to do it?
and finally. it will work in portugal? with the operator TMN?
Can someone post the link for one guide to do the install, that actually works?:fingers-crossed:
Thanks in advance for the answers
If i can make a clean and smooth install, for sure i will donate
(sorry my english)
p.s- i know they are a lot of posts about this, but is because that i cant find my way through they.
Install instructions:
1. Flash kernel (fastboot flash boot boot.img)
2. Install a Recovery (there are some around this forum)
3. Wipe (only required 1st time)
4. Flash Rom
5. OK!!

o.k, but which files i should use? can u post some links?
preferable the most stable version, i know they are a lot of them but cant choose because i don't have any experience on it.
Im thinking is use one of this two, whats better?
1 - this kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1520654) with this room (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526717)
or
2 - this kernel (FXP128, by FreeXperiaProject) (come people say works fine) whit this room ( http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=anzu&type=) cm-9.1.0-anzu.zip
please advice,,
Thanks everyone
Hi all!
Hi!
to flash the kernel you'll need to do it via Fastboot. There are some guides in this section to help you get CWM recovery easily, but if you're a noob like me I'd give try to Flashtool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000012).
It's a little program that helps you out flashing kernels, roms and some other joyful gift from xda...
Try it out and let me know!
For the ROM/Kernel choice if you want a clean AOSP (android stock) experience go with the FXP CM9 or AOKP (for a little more customization)... If you browse the "Android Development" section you're going to find plenty about it and in the related thread you'll find some help with kernel choice!
I actually am on JJ's Hybrid Rom with ArcKnight kernel, it's based on Sony's firmware but looks like aosp (I don't like the CM9 camera) and it's really smooth!
Cheers and let me know if I helped you out! :fingers-crossed:

Hi ,
I believe you
Really helpfull man, i take a look at your description and look really nice room.
And i even have a option to install it with "Locked Bootloaders"(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673489) so if someting goes wrong i can restore the phone with Sony software (SEUS).
Can you tell me if this are the files you use? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1537717) you apply the patch too?
Im really happy with your feedback (i can see now some light at the end of the tunel)
To finish i have just one more litle question. is about the "baseband".
I am im Portugal and my phone is under TMN phone line. do you know if this rooms works fine? (i suppose it works because you can update too official ICS before start installing JJ's Hybrid Rom, but can you confirm this?) my thought is correct?
Best regards, and thanks for the reply.
Yeah that's the thread!
I applied the patch but it works just fine as it is, even without it!
baseband should be no problem, the problem is combination rom/baseband and not baseband/network (dunno if I can explain myself, sorry about it).
In other words, if your phone is on ics .431 stock and you flash this, you'll get the same baseband and everything's gonna work out!
I unlocked my bootloader so I'm not familiar with that kind of install but it should be even easier.
Let me know if you need any help about it, I hope we are not going too much OT!
Happy to help!

Nice :good:
i understand what you try to explain about baseband. no worry
dont know yet if i install this room by "unlocked bootloader" or "locked".
The Locked version have some vantages right? if i want to go to stock ics i can keep update the cellphne by Sony software. But im wondering, how many time the sony will update this phone? maybe not much,,because already listen someone say it will no get jellybean official update, so im really think in "unlock bootloader".
about the patch, how apply the pacth? right after instal the room, or reboot a couple of times them instal the patch?
by the way can you send me a link with the method to install it? dont want to mess with the room itself.
Thanks for all the support , really appreciate :highfive:
well,
I think this thread is the best if you need some guidance, I don't think I'd be better that this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653188
Anyway if you unlock your BL, I'd proceed like this afterwards:
-backup all the things you need to keep from your phone because you're gonna delete all the data!
-download Flashtool, install all the drivers inside the drivers folder after the install, launch it and try to get your phone in "fastboot mode" (click on the lightning and select fastboot, then pick the button that suites you better )
-download the kernel you chose and flash the img by pressing "flash kernel img" in the fastboot menu (you may need to flash wifi modules later, so download them and put them inside your sd card
-download the .zip file of the rom you chose and put it inside your sd card
-ALWAYS DISCONNECT YOUR PHONE FROM CABLE BEFORE YOU TURN IT ON, not always, but sometimes it makes android crash
-turn on your phone and keep pressing volume down till you get to recovery
-select "wipe data/factory reset", "wipe cache", go to "advanced" and select "wipe dalvik cache"
-select "install...." (second option in the main menu) and then install from sd card and pick the ROM file...
-after the flash is over, do the last step again and select the WIFI MODULES
-reboot to system, check if everything's working, if you want to apply the patch (in JJ's rom case) turn off your phone, get to recovery again and install the related zip...
Anyway I hope I'll not be held responsible if your phone is gonna explode, mine didn't!
Good luck!

Hi, once again THANKS for this mini tutorial
No worry you will not be responsible if my phone meltdown , i know flashing is always a little risky, but if something goes wrong most of the time only need to rooting again e flash it. (little chance of burning literally the phone, only if doing insane overclocks), beside i try the "locked bootloade" first so, i think is even easier to restore factor ICS if something bad happens.(hope not) :fingers-crossed:
-when you install the patch, you don't clean cache or something? just install?
-about the hifi modules, i should install it or only if my wifi not work?
in my work days i don't have time to do this procedure but in weakend i want apply this. Really lov the stock ICS look, not that changed version of sony (i mean, is pretty, but don't like)
Thanks for all the help.
I didnt wipe cache or dalvik when I applied the patch... Wifi modules are linked with the kernel you choose, so if you dont flash them, wifi won't work...so "yes" is the answer in any case! let me know if everything works out!

You should when flashing any new ROM because it rules out any issues that might a rise after installing.

Not needed, but there is a baseband for CM9 which is in the thread, up to you if you want to use it or not.
Questions go to Q&A.
Also most of your questions would be answered, had you taken the time to read through the forums and search.

Hi, o.k e see.
i tell you if everything works and my opinion about the room .
by the way, im thinking in root the phone before doing the rooming just to test something, remove bloatware on xperia. My friend speak about this http://www.unlockroot.com/, do you know if its work? because as far as i know we need to downgrade the ics 4.0.4 to 4.0.3 to apply the rooting.
have a nice day , and thanks for your fast reply to all my doubts

can i ask you something subjective?
if i root the xperia ics stock room, and clean all bloatware, really i need a new room? i mean. it will be more stable? or what i will benefit from it?

You'll have more system space, probably your phone will be smoother and stable.
Anyway, IMHO:
-change kernel if you're looking for performance improvement, overclocking/undervolting or some particular feature
-change rom if you find some features you'd like/need that are not inside the stock one or if you want to customize it.

Speaking in root, do you have some thoughs about this? http://www.unlockroot.com/, to rooting the phone? (i am in ICS 4.0.4 - 4.1.B.0.431)
(this weakend i have played with the phone, photos, system, etc,, and this is a great phone for a single core, really fast, my fried have a galaxy S3 and the diference is not so much and the price is more them 2x more)
take care, and thanks for all the help and feedbacks.

[Q] Lose GSM signal and does not regain (ACRO S)

Hi there,
I have an Acro S and absolutely love the hardware couldn't wish for any better. :good:
However I have an issue I am struggling with right now. At my workplace I get patchy signal with my carrier (Orange/EE in the UK). I'm ok with this but lately when I go to a part of the building where I lose signal, the phone never recovers signal again, it just shows "Emergency Calls Only" and needs either re-booting or airplane mode on and off again to recover signal.
Is this something anyone else has seen and is it likely to be a software issue or a hardware issue?
I've looked in the settings and I am running software version 6.1.A.2.50 which I think is the latest.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix as my wife is pregnant and I'd hate to miss an important phone call because of this!
In my view, this problem must be connected to which ROM you are using
with refrence to my experience, I get so many issuses like this..
Firmly suggest you change your ROM and try again XD

Thanks for the advice, however I am using the standard Sony ROM and there doesn't appear to be an update available. I'm tempted to root the phone and install one of the ROMs in the development section here but I use the Barclays Mobile app and find it very useful and that won't work on a rooted phone.
Do you have an Acro S if so which ROM are you using?

You can do a Repair using PC Companion...But before you do, backup all your settings/apps in the internal memory as it will factory reset your phone all the way back...So just do full backup using " Backup & Restore " first, then connect to pc and hit Repair using PCC

[Q] Unresponsive screen after flashing ROM/Kernel

Hello All,
First time post and as an offering, I will say 'thanks' to anyone that responds in a positive manner to my post (trying to win some friends)
Here's my issue, I have an Arc S LT18i.
Unlocked bootloader and rooted.
Whenever I flash anything custom the touch screen fails to respond, i've flashed LupusV7, slim bean 3.1 and 3.2 (with arc fusion 3.6 and 4.5) and Super Jelly Bean. All seemingly start without any issues and the physical buttons work no problem. BUT the screen refuses to work in anyway at all!!
I have made sure I wiped the system, cache and delvak (sp?)
Any help greatly appreciated, I am a NOOB but underneath it all I'm just trying to make the most of this wonderful Arc S...
Anything you want to know, please ask away...
Please help.
Namaste
Ricky:fingers-crossed:

I flashed stock ICS .587 (world india) from this site talk.sonymobile.com/thread/35239
Does that count as stock ICS .587?
And then followed the rest of the instructions, the exact same thing happens... buttons work but the touch screen does not!?
Any other ideas please? Or does anyone else have a suggestion?

Hello, thanks for the reply...
According to the Slim Bean page, I can use ANY kernel with that rom. But also, if I just have the Lupusv7 Kernel on there, the touch screen doesn't work within that, so not a ROM/Kernel conflict I belive.
I've also tried other Kernel/ROM combinations, same thing keeps on happening. Touchscreen works 100% with a SE restore, stock ROM.
Any other ideas please??

Hello,
As previously mentioned, the reccomended kernel is Lupusv7, When i flash this Kernel into recovery mode, all looks well but as it has a touch screen interface this still doesn't work!
I'm presuming that it cannot be a conflict as it's happen before I instll the new ROM etc... the touch screen doesn't even work within the GUI of the Lupusv7 kernel.
I can get multiple ROMS to load with different kernels but so far, none have booted with the touch screen working!!
I am very much a noob but have read loads of articles on how this should be done, unless i'm missing something very obvious which isn't stated then I dont see anyone else having this issue.
Any clues people? :good:

Hello Someguyfromhell,
I haven't used AROMA, the guides i've been reading haven't mentioned this!?
This is the process I went through:
flashed stock ICS ROM
flashed kernel
wipe data/cache/davlik
flashed rom
rebooted, ROM loads up and the touch screen doesn't work.
Any help you can give me on AROMA, links etc?
I'm looking right now, but a 'leg up' would be great.
Thanks for the reply.
Ricky
here what to do
- Make sure you had installed Official 4.0.4 ftf pack
- When flashing official ftf pack remember to exclude / tick these things:
1. simlock.ta (Exclude TA)
2. Kernel.sin (Exclude kernel)
3. FOTA (Exclude FOTA)
After flash successful, power on your phone and let it start completely
- Now you can start to install any ROM
1.Flash the Recommended Kernel: Vengeance , KTG Anzu , RUSH
2. Place ROM on SD card
3. Power off the phone and boot into CWM
3. Backup and restore > choose Backup
4. Wipe Data/Factory Reset
5. Mounts and storage > Format /system
6. Advanced > Wipe battery stats
7. Install zip from SD card > Choose the rom
8. if rom uses aroma Follow on screen instructions on AROMA, remember to choose "Unlocked bootloader" and also the correct kernel modules and of course the correct phone model
9. After complete installation tick "Reboot" and let the phone restart
10. Give the phone a good full charge, and enjoy ur phone !

ok man, you've got the same problem like me
First thing, all roms that make your touch screen doesn't work will based on cm (e.g. cm10, slim, any jb).
and ALL STOCK roms will get no problem.
There's lot of people here got this problem and still has no clue why this problem occure to ours, so sad story.
Someone says that the touch screen firmware sould be updated to the lastest version, but i don't know how.
One solution that i found is, remove the battery to turn off then turn it on to reboot again and again. If you lucky enough, the touch screen will work like a miracle!
and the success rate is also <50% ( based on my experience only)

on all the ROM guides, I have never seen a part where it says i should install a device specific patch, do you have a link to where these may be?
Or even a ROM with guide where it says this? I'm very happy to follow that to get this working. I have no preference to CM10, Slim Bean, Racing Bean etc... as of yet i've not been able to use any of them.
Thanks for the continued response.

However, as i mentioned above; you can get ALL jb rom working :fingers-crossed:
But depends on your luck. Just turn it off when the touch screen didn't response, then turn it on again (and again) untill it work.
I hoped that the new linux kernel will solve this...

I have same issue have tried many stock based roms and kernels no problem but any CM based rom I have no touchscreen.
You can reboot and about 1 in 5 times it will work
Maybe it only affects certain versions of the phone. I even tried re-locking bootloader and doing official sony update then tried CM again I tried 7.1,9 and 10
same problem.
Here's where I am...
UPDATE:
So, here is where I am. Using advice from previous replies I have managed to install Xperia Ultimate HD and this is working off of the Lupus kernel without any issues. I'm still unable to get ANY Jelly Bean roms working...
Maybe my device will just not work on JB :crying:
Any other tips or tricks are greatly appreciated, would love to get JB working on here my beloved Arc S.
Ricky :good:
Any news here?
I have the same issue over here with a colleagues LT18i
I have same problem, touch screen doesn't work on many different kernels... only work on stock kernel
Any news about this problem?

Latest T-Mobile Update Slowed Down My Phone

Hi guys,
So i just downloaded and installed the latest T-mobile update and now my phone is slower.
Every time I hit the home button, the image blinks and redraws and there's just a hint of stutter.
The app drawer also takes a little longer now.
What the heck?
It used to be so zippy and fast. How do I fix it, anyone know?

Try disabling hw overlays in developers options to help with that redraw stutter. Remember you have to set it everytime you boot, unless you're booted with xposed installed, then you could download the module that keeps it active at all times.
This seems to have helped a lot of people with your issue.
Thank you.
It's sadly still doing it.

Did you take the ota or download one of the twrp upgrades floating around? Either way in your situation you probably need to do a factory reset. Alternatively follow the twrp method HERE if you haven't already and I can personally guarantee a better than ota install. If you want it to be done correctly to fix any problems you need to wipe the system and data partitions before flashing. Also don't forget to download super su if you want to keep root (linked in guide). There is another upgrade twrp file in the development section I think that is not a perfect 1:1 image and could give problems. Not saying that particular rom is bad or that it is the problem, its just not a 1:1 like the guide I linked you to it is directory/installer script dependent. The one I made transfers the whole untouched partition over and inside has all the symlinks and permissions preset by LG.
Factory Reset

Most stable Custom ROM for Z1C

Hi guys. Quick question: which Custom ROM would you guys recommend to install on my Z1C?
I'm having some issues atm. It keeps restarting; I did a factory reset, it worked well for a while, now the issue is back. However, it does seem to work fine when hooked up to my PC (with the PC Companion active). Before I start shopping for a new phone, I'd like to root it first.
For this purpose, I'd like to know whick custom ROM is the most stable that you would recommend I install. Also, I'd be very helpful if you could direct me to a good guide about the entire process.
Thank you in advance, I appreciate it!

Most custom roms are entirely stable. Between 4 android versions over almost 4 years, there's probably a few dozen to choose from. Search through original development forum here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/orig-development, as well as here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/general/z1c-nougat-roms-t3460868 and here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/general/z1c-marshmallow-roms-t3372565. If camera is important, you are currently limited to either KK, LP, or AICP N. No MM rom or other N rom has a usable camera.

Turns out the culprit for constant rebooting was the Facebook app. I uninstalled it for now and the phone hasn't restarted since. You also might want to disable/uninstall the (Facebook) Messenger app. Seems the last update from these two aps is incompatible with my phone.
Hope this helps, mate.
@levone1: Thanks for tips and helping me out, appreciate it!

I'll try it but i will install custom rom anyways. Its just so hard to root it
Tell me about it. I'm still looking for a coherent guide that would preferably include all the steps in one video/tutorial. What levone1 shared was helpful, but it still feels like a jigsaw puzzle
Hmmm it could be facebook i just tried to open it and it just kept flashing blue and white and then my phone froze not long after that. Still working on finding root (You can use kingroot, it will get the job done but i don't recommend it since it's universal and it forces root and most of the time ****s up system)
