I've Samsung galaxy note 2. Updated to 4.4.2. Rooted. Response screen of root checker attached for reference.
I'm trying to install the xposed framework. I've downloaded latest apk file. When I try to install the framework on clicking the apk file, the installer starts and shows the informative screen (screens hot attached). However, the install button at the bottom does not click - seems to be disabled. The cancel button cancels the process.
I've enabled unknown sources under security. I've tried with stopping and disabling the anti virus programmes - Avast and AVG.
What should I check? What am I missing?
I've explored the threads with similar subject, but could not find anything that would help. If this question is already answered, please point to appropriate link.
Thanks,
Vikas Garud.
this is weird and should not be as you have attached ss showing that your device is rooted. can you install other APKs? if yes, then this exposed installer maybe not supporting to the android version, try after upgrade, make it 4.4.3.
Can not install any apk
Thanks Niton for the pointer. I checked with few more apk's. And the problem continues. I'm unable to install any apk. System information shows about 470 MB free RAM and 1.47 GB free storage. (I haven't installed KNOX).
What else can/should I check?
Thanks,
Vikas Garud.
PS: I had installed from apk's in the past. I am not sure when this behaviour started.
Vikas Garud.
You better flash a pre rooted stock firmware and why you are still on 442? It's 444 time.
How do I migrate to stock ROM
Thanks Nitol for the suggestion. I'd certainly like to upgrade to 4.4.4 and further, as and when it becomes available. So far, I haven't done that since I use S-Note a lot and quite a lot of data exists under that application. I may be wrong, but I read that S-Note will work with Samsung ROM's. Any suggestions on migration from that app?
Any detailed guide/pointers/links to the process of getting and flashing pre-rooted stock ROM?
Thanks,
Vikas Garud.
Do you have any screen filters activated? If so, it disables your phone from registering the install button on apks so remember to disable your screen filters during installation of apks!

What is a screen filter?
Thanks Epic_salamence for the pointer. Pardon my ignorance, but what is a screen filter? I haven't installed any "Screen Filter" on purpose. However, any of the installed Apps may be functioning as one. How do I recognise it? Any example of "Screen Filter" would help me in narrowing down the culprit.
Do the screen filters selectively disable the install button? The cancel button adjacent to the install button is
Sorry for the late reply but a screen filter is an application which helps your phone to further decrease screen brightness to optimise battery life and yeah, all screen filter apps disables your phone from registering the "install button' when installing apks. I had that problem too when installing xposed module but luckily my friend notified me about the screen filters. Oh yeah go to Google play store and search "screen filter" and you'll see an app called screen filter you might wanna check it out
It worked - kind of
Thanks Epic_salamence for the pointers. This kind of worked.
I searched through the play store for the screen filters and disabled all the apps installed on my phone. Did not work. So I un-installed them. Did not work.
Then I disabled the "copy bubble" app, even though it was not under "screen filters", but hey, it was on screen. And it worked. The install button was enabled and I could install Xposed framework and some modules.
Next stop, flashing of ROM!
Thanks, once again.
Hahahha glad I could help! Have fun flashing ROMs!

hm.. my first thought after unknown sources would be a program that does a graphic overlay, but you alreay looked at that. look here?
Yeah, I already uninstalled every program that makes a screen overlay.
OK, I found a workaround in that thread. I connected my keyboard and was able to select the install button. Thanks mate.
But the button is still inaccessible with the touchscreen, so I need a real solution
Greetings all..
I am working on the Not e 4 and run a large collection of Xposed mods
I have a Sprint Note 2, Note 3 and Note 4 and the 2&3 have never given me any issues with Xposed Framework Modules.
The frame work
Several are causing boot loops upon reboot.
The device will not boot into safemode- which is a huge pain if you did not do a backup in recovery.
I just wanted to remind everyone that if you install Xposed ( and ignore all of the "make sure you nandroid/ backup first messages) this time REALLY MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP /System at least before you activate mods.
I will post a list of the ones giving me issues shortly as I work out process of elimination.
Do you have an idea why my phone says "updating" after I install Xposed?
It's not stuck or anything but in the status bar it has a logo with a checkmark and I have no service. Am I supposed to freeze something?
I don't use many xposed modules and don't have boot loop issues with the ones I use. My problem is not all options in Wanam works. Like disabling sound waning when putting the volume too high. Hopefully the Wanam devs will fix that.

I turned off Software Uodates and it still comes up in the notification bar
I don't get any service either upon installing and restarting with xposed
When you installed xposed installer (assuming this was not from a titanium backup), it should have saved a zip file called, Xposed-Disabler-Recovery.zip to your sdcard or internal memory.
Install it in recovery and it will disable xposed framework so you can figure out which module is not working.

Yes. It removes xposed framework without uninstalling anything.
This way you can use the process of elimination add to which xposed module is screwing up your system:
Reinstall framework, turn one module on at a time, reboot, repeat.
If you are sure individual modules are not messing up, don't bother turning them off.

All you have to do is install the apk. Then once in Xposed, install the framework.
Id try uninstalling the framework, deleting the apk and download a fresh apk of xposed and start fresh. Dont associate TWRP with installing Xposed.
I think its working now. For some reason the update stays on my status bar for awhile before it turns off by itself. I tried to send myself some text messages last night and they took a long time to send, or just never sent at all. I have some decent status by my house so that wasn't an issue. I might've not given my phone enough time to boot up xposed or something, but regardless it's working now.
Being connected to wifi, does in anyway affect sending text messages while I'm on xposed? I barely had enough time to test it out when I was at home but driving around my city I was sending myself text messages and they seemed to go through okay.
Wanam Xposed
11/5/14 Wanam Xposed Module update available.
Drama!!! It is just Xposed Framework.
I have a Sprint Note 4 which is rooted and yesterday I downloaded Lucky Patcher and the Modded Google Play Store to replace my stock Google Play Store. So through Titanium, I backed up the stock Google Play Store and then I uninstalled it, since the Modded Google Play Store would not let me install it without doing that. I also cleared the cache and data on Google Play Store and now it just keeps crashing all the time. When I try to download something, it starts to download and then immediately it crashes and gives me the "Unfortunately, Play Store has stopped working" error. I get the error no matter which version of Play Store I use now, whether it is the modded or the official version. I tried clearing data/cache to Google Play Services as well, to no avail. When I try to restore my backup of Google Play Store through Titanium it stays frozen with "Restoring Google Play Store 5.1.11" and I end up having to force stop Titanium. This is so annoying! What can I do? Thanks so much in advance!!!
1) Go to Application manager/All, scroll down to where you find these three: Google Services Framework, Google Play, and Google Play Services. Force stop and delete cache and data for the first two (in order given). You won't be able to force close Google Play Services but choose Manage storage and scroll to bottom to clear all data. It's annoying that they may try to restart, just clear again and reboot quickly.
2) If that doesn't work, got a nandroid backup?
3) Re-flash current ROM, if no.
4) If stock and no backup, consider another ROM or start over with Odin stock tar.
Note: options 3 and 4 may require clean install.
Note 2: I've tried to suggest from least inconvenience to most; hopefully, the easier methods will do.
Edit: you may also see an option to uninstall update to revert to the original system application; consider that as option 2 or 3 for Google Play.

Ok I just did that now when I run Play Store it doesn't crash, instead it is says " Check your internet connection and try again" It seems as if it isn't recognizing that I actually do have a connection? I heard that if you go to the files on the phone to "etc/hosts" file and put a "#" in front of the second IP address in the hosts file that it will work but I just tried that and it didn't so I reverted the file back.
Also I tried going to settings>accounts and removing my Google accounts and re adding them but Play store still says I have no connection (which I clearly do). I made sure my date/time settings are right as well. This is happening with the modded play store and the official 5.2.12 Play Store.
YouTube randomly crashes now as well and gives me "unfortunately, YouTube has stopped " Google play store is still not recognizing that I am connected. I think I have tried just about anything besides flashing back to the stock ROM
Did you try step one again after swapping the Google Play versions? Worth a try, if you didn't.
One more thing: Lucky Patcher creates an Odex file. You should use the Lucky Patcher option to remove the Odex and restore the original. If you're ROM is deodexed, Titanium may not fix this for you. You can manually check for Odex file as well. Titanium is also useful to check for unneeded dalvik-cache files.
And one last suggestion I omitted: in recovery, delete all cache and dalvik cache and reboot.

Hmmm it is working now after hours of fumbling around with settings. Both the Modded and official newest Google Play Stores started working after I turned off "Google License Verification Emulation" and I had to turn off "Google Billing Emulation". Very stressful lol but they were the default settings and I didn't really want to mess with any of the settings as I am just starting with Lucky Patcher.

Was that Google Play version 5.2.12?
I flashed that to system yesterday and everything was working except that it didn't populate my applications and notify updates until a day later. I had to search for updates that I knew were available. Today, the apps populated and I got update notification for available updates. I think it may be part of the battery savings that lollipop is supposed to be bringing; less Google Play wakes.
Consider that your manipulation results may have been skewed by Google not immediately syncing the update.
As for my experience, I did find myself doing step one and considering flashing the nandroid but waited for applications to sync. They did finally sync this morning. The longer sync of apps may have been induced locally by the use of Xposed module "Recent Apps" which can be configured to force close apps and remove from recents, reducing wake times.

The # is used in scripts to comment out; meaning ignore that line in your host file.
As far as LP, there is a help link to read. Discussion threads on LP may get closed on XDA; LP may be a useful tool but leans toward piracy. Not saying this pertains to you but there was a thread that the developer participated in that xda allowed to remain open with a warning. That should be sufficient, unless closed as well.

Why is it that when running stock lollipop 5.1.1 on Galaxy S6 Edge is it that Google Play Store constantly crashes when I'm rooted.
When no root it works fine and dandy.
Soon as rooted the bloody thing crashes constantly..

[App] [No Root] 45 Fake Apps from Moto Z Stop OTA, MotoCare & A Lot of VZ + Moto Apps
What I have done here is to provide a means of disabling system apps which were not meant to be disabled. The apps come from the latest MM system dump from a VZW Z. They are parsed as genuine updates. These apps crash on our phone (Forced Close or FC).
Here is all the safe fake bunch of ZApps (latest MM) which I have sorted through and have on my VZ phone right now. It was a lot of rebooting and dealing with some persistent FCs (keep SM, link below, under the OK button).
There are numerous FCs on boot but few to none after that, none persistent.
Try them out! See last attachment. About 25 MBs in 45 apps, all not disableable, until now!
For dash 2 phones leave the VZ apps alone. With some apps it is not named as VZ but if the installer does not notify you about it being an update then do not install the fake. Get https://play.google.com/store/apps/...te.com.google.sites.android.appinstallhistory to keep track.
Be aware, what not getting a persistent force close means: if you try one and then uninstall, you must reboot (hold power button) to get the real system app to work again. Read more for uninstall steps.
List of fake apps to nix from safe zip file:
VzwUnifiedSettingsApp breaks Visual voice mail playback.
DroidSettingsExt breaks settings, battery. It also breaks Hotspot and more I am sure. Just uninstall as needed.
Same for SettingsExtn. Breaks Adv Calling, settings.
Also Fake GPS notifier sends Google maps into a tizzy after a while.
Example for Fake Motocare:
Enable Dev options, show sys processes, notice motocare runs 24/7.
Download MotoCare.apk in attachments, at bottom of post, which is a Moto Z app.
Install/Update this MotoCare with this foreign app.
Motocare is no longer in processes.
Example for Fake motocheckin (OTA-Update):
Download 3c_checkin.apk in attachments, at bottom of post, which is a Moto Z app.
Install/Update 3c_Checkin.apk with this foreign app.
When you check for updates (pic 2) it fails.
You can return the phone to normal update ability by uninstalling the z app.
Go settings, apps, show system apps (3dots), find moto checkin, choose disable. Reboot not needed.
There is no stock app to uninstall these foreign updates. But be assured:
Super Manager uninstalls these apps. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gpc.myweb.hinet.net.TaskManager
Free version works fine.
See pic 3 & 4.
Also these all system app updates persist in safe mode.
With the Fake motocheckin in control you must put up with a total of 2 forced closes after a boot up. As well as when an update becomes available. There is something else that calls on it sometimes when no update is ready.
The checkin app is one of the keys to the update process.
One link I found: https://www.darklaunch.com/2015/04/10/disable-motorolaota
I posted at the Lenovo forum. I wonder how long they will permit my post.

I was so bummed about the Debloater ADB being foiled by our latest patch, I tried what worked on my Maxx years ago.
WARNING THE ABOVE MODS I DEEM TO BE SAFE ON OUR PHONE. YET YOU ARE USING THEM AT YOUR OWN RISK. USING THE OTHER APPS BELOW MAY LEAVE YOUR PHONE FORCE CLOSING AND SAFE MODE MAY NOT HELP. YOU MAY HAVE TO RESORT TO A DATA RESET FROM RECOVERY.
Update, I have tried many of these apps and none do anything but cause a persistent FC.
Apps from a system dump.

My condensed (privapp & app only) Mega link 900 MB, see attachments
Use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.zdevs.zarchiver
I encourage others to see what other tweaking we can achieve by installing other useless 'Z apps..
This statement does not apply to the attachments:
For those that may get a persistent FC, I got one and I thought I would have to FDR.
I did have S Manager right beneath the OK button. So with quick fingers I was able to uninstall the offending app.
If any have not taken the Dec patch, you are elected (lol) as a tester. Please test this?
Thank you.

EAB, used to view contacts.

Can anybody make a port of the Google phone app for our phone? The in-built version doesn't have the Google exclusive features, like Called ID, local business search, etc. which are supposed to ship with Android One devices. Simply trying to install the apk doesn't work, with the app saying "not compatible with your device".
Its available on XDA forum, just search google phone apk and install downloaded mod apk
Oh thanks.
Here's the link if anybody else is looking for it. Caller ID and Spam detection DO NOT work.
What i don't understand is why we don't have native support for the app, seeing how the Mi A1 is Android One, and all.
Just a heads up, version 11.0.164102751 as stated in op works best, the newer ones have bugs when calling someone from favorites tab. I installed just for the sale of the contact pictures in in call, because otherwise it looks very stupid with contact name and blue screen. For now I can live without nearby search and caller id.
You can install the older version of the Google dialer. Am attaching the file. The Caller ID picture and the local search both works fine. The only bug I saw was that in the Call logs, the incoming, outgoing & the missed calls symbols are messed up. Everything else works just fine.
Or install "google framework" Magisk module and after reboot you can install and use Google Phone app from Play store.. Caller ID, nearby search, favorites, logs, accept/reject call from notification work without any issues, at least I didn't encounter any problem.
Don't wait Use patched version

Which other modules did you install? Try total uninstall of Magisk (not only restore stock boot), reboot, install official beta 14.5 Magisk again and then install only Google framework module. I have been experiencing this with some old/unsupported (?) modules, they somehow damaged magisk.img and I couldn't install or update otherwise working modules anymore.

Haven't you disabled the notifications, or lowered their priority for the phone app? All I did was installed the google framework, installed the dialer, enabled all permissions, allowed system changes, set it as the default phone app and it works with no hiccups.
Edit: someone reported that ambient display doesn't work with disabled screen security feature (PIN, pattern,..) in December update - just for the troubleshooting purpose, make sure that you have pattern set with lock set to very short timeout and smart lock disabled and try calling your phone again.
