hi guys. yesterday i unlocked my bootloader and rooted my m8. is a unbranded cid_332. i made a nandroid backup too.
no s-off yet. what i want is to change my ROM to another that is already at 4.4.4 version and can receive faster updates from htc, how can i do that?
another thing is my m8 doesnt connect to 4g network, but in the box it says that is 2600mhz compatible, if i change the radio will it work?
also i want to try viper and insertcoin roms but later i want to go back to stock but with another cid to receive faster updates.
thanks.

Method to get fastest updates would probably be to s-off and fully convert to GPE.
When you say 4G, you mean HSPA or LTE?
Being able to get OTA is pretty different from being able to flash custom ROMs. Namely, you need custom recovery to flash custom ROMs. And you need to have a stock ROM and stock recovery to install OTAs. So flip-flopping back and forth is not that straightforward. I'd suggest picking one and sticking with it.

i mean LTE. right now i just reverted to stock rom and stock kernel. my device is not possible to have s-off wven with sunshine.
i wanted to s-off, change my CID to another one like dev edition or international unlocked, change rom to unlocked edition and then flash stock recovery from unlocked to being able to receive OTA faster.
is like change my htc m8 variant from cid_332 to cid_001

Sunshine only works on the stock ROM, if I'm not mistaken. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure.

The GPE models won't be getting Lollipop for a couple of weeks, maybe a month or more.
It hasn't been pushed to the Nexus devices yet, either. Probably a a few days to a week or so for that.

Sorry..newbie question. What are the benefits for International One X to get s-off beside installing the custom rom?
I have an S-off One X and an S-off AT&T One X. The At&t, I was be able to install International One XL Rom but I still can not get the International LTE bands running on 1800 and 2600Mhz.
Thanks.

With S-Off\super CID you can install any firmware package without being concerned over your specific CID matching and you can also downgrade your firmware if needed which you cannot do with S-ON. Also you dont need to separately flash the boot.img when installing custom roms as you can do all you need in the custom recovery. This means you can download and flash ROMS without using a PC all the time.
Cant comment on the bands issue.
but we were already flashing ROMs without using a PC. It seems like dev's circumvented S-OFF for the AT&T One X completely. That's why i don't understand why it was needed. I'm S-OFF just to have it, but still not exactly sure why i need it when the AT&T One X was already able to do anything that any other phone has been doing, custom ROM/kernel-wise.

I cant comment on the AT&T One X but the international needs S-OFF to be able to set Super CID, this enables you to choose which firmware you want without any ties to when its released for your specific CID. You need it if you want to downgrade your firmware for any reason and you need it to be able to flash the boot.img from any custom ROM via custom recovery without needing a PC to do it via fastboot.
To be fair if you can get over the annoyance of having to wait for official firmware upgrades for your particular phone an S-ON device isnt a great deal different. Of course its nice to have the flexibility as you say )

If I super cid my handset does that mean I can use ANY RUU suitable for "international m8" even if the RUU has an older hboot and firmware ?
Currently on ARHD 11.1 and trying to work out best, and easiest, way to get back for stock for OTA "L" update when it comes.
Thanks

I believe the super CID means you can install any RUU period - sort of like a skeleton key. It's then up to you to make sure that you are installing an appropriate version.
If you just need to go back to stock, however, you only need a CID for your carrier/region (or developer edition) and the appropriate RUU.

It won't allow you to "downgrade" or run an RUU with a lower hboot number. Although s-off will allow this.
To the OP, does a RUU for any international M8 even exist? AFAIK only US variants have RUUs. You will probably have to find your carrier's nandroid, and stock recovery to return to stock for OTA.
But if you are willing to flash custom ROMs, there will probably be custom ROMs based on Android "L" soon after it starts rolling out OTA. Possibly even faster than waiting for your carrier version.

Will, more than likely, use mikes "version" of L when released. Main reason I want to get OTA update is so my firmware is updated for L.
My handset is not locked to any carrier, sim free UK handset.
Thanks
Edit, was just curious as to the benefits of super cid. I've got my own "complete" nandroid, no missing data, so as I was told by mr hofs yesterday all I need to do is flash one of his stock recoveries.

Hello Guys, i bought my htc one m8 some months ago and now i'm missing the updates.
My m8 is from US by AT&T with android 4.4.2 and now i live in brazil and it does not show new updates.
I don't know if it is some error or if it is normal from non-us.
So, should I flash a custom ROM or something? I Already have experience with previous android versions but with my htc i'm lost...
What should I do step by step? Unlock boot, S-OFF and flash?
Anyone? I really want to update mu phone...
You will only receive updates for an AT&T device while connected to AT&T's network. Most carriers in the world don't work this way (you will normally get OTAs on most other Android devices) but you can "thank" AT&T for this one. So for AT&T devices, yes this is "normal" and you will never receive an OTA with the phone in its current condition.
You can RUU to the latest AT&T software (which is currently Android 4.4.3): http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/general/htc-one-m8-ruu-m8ul-4-4-3-t2860423
Then wait for the Android 4.4.4 RUU to be released (hopefully soon). Backup any personal data before RUU, as your phone will be wiped with this process.
Alternately, you can unlock the bootloader (root, s-off, etc.) as you mentioned, and from there either:
- Install custom ROMs
- Or "convert" your phone to another version so that it can then receive "official" OTAs.

Oh, thanks for response, but how can i "convert" my phone?
I just install 4.4.3 from your link, and I did not realize the work that would have to rearrange everything again ...

Easiest way would probably be to use the Developer's Edition or GPE RUU. S-off or changing the CID may be required (and changing CID requires unlocking the bootloader and root). Either DE or GPE is not carrier branded, so will be better than stock AT&T software to most folks (for whom AT&T is not their carrier). But again with most RUUs, the phone will be wiped.
You may be able to do it piece by piece, although I'm not sure. Unlock the bootloader, install custom recovery, then flash a stock nandroid for the carrier version you want. Change CID (and possibly may need to change MID) and flash the stock recovery for your version. You may need to s-off and also change your firmware (bootloader, radio, etc.). Doing it this way is complex, might not even be possible. Although in theory it should work if you have all the pieces and s-off.
None of these approaches are trivial, and you should expect that your data will be wiped (backup anything important) regardless of the approach.
Hey guys,
I've been searching but couldn't find anything that really helps with my problem. I bought an HTC One M8 last year, it was supposed to be unlocked from factory but when it arrived it turned out it was an unlocked AT&T model. Anyways so I tried to root the phone but it was already rooted and running a TWRP (I don't know how this happened as the phone was sealed when I got it) I have no problem with this but as the phone is rooted and doesn't have the stock recovery I can't get any OTA and I'm still in 4.4.2. I was wondering if any of you guys could help me update my device to stock 5.0.1 without flashing a custom ROM.
Thanks

First off, there is no stock 5.0.1 for the AT&T version yet. There isn't even a 4.4.4 released yes (although it might be anytime soon).
Further, you aren't going to receive any OTAs since you aren't connected to the AT&T network. Some folks not specifically familiar with AT&T will disagree, saying the OTAs will come over WiFi even if not connected to the specific carrier. But AT&T is pretty unique in this regard (well, maybe other carriers in the US do it too, but not WWE versions).
You can download an official RUU to upgrade to 4.4.3. Then wait for RUUs to be posted for 4.4.4 and/or 5.0.1. That is all you can do at this time without s-off. With s-off, you can convert to any version you want, and get official OTAs that way (such as convert to WWE version), or run the US Developer's Edition 5.0 RUU.

Excuse me but what is WWE exactly? Ok so my two options are use sunshine to make my htc s-off and convert to another version or flash a custom rom with 5.0.1?
Thanks for your help.

World Wide English. Which doesn't really say much. Its the "international" version sold in Europe and other places.

Nope, your second option won't work. You need firmware on your phone that is compatible with 5.0.1, otherwise WiFi will be broken, and.or extreme long boot times (>10 minutes). And the only way to update your firmware is with s-off (until AT&T releases more updates).
So really, if you want to update now, your only option is s-off.
Ok dude, thanks for your help. I guess I'll have to s-off

If you want to update now, that is what I suggest. I don't see LP coming to AT&T for another month at least, and it might be even longer than that (months). We're still waiting for 4.4.4.
Be sure to check bootloader and confirm if its s-on or s-off (says one or the other near the top of the hboot screen). Since it was already rooted and bootloader unlocked, who knows, you might have lucked out and gotten a phone that is already s-off as well.
Yeah and like you said if I'm not connected to the AT&T network I might never get the update so it is the only option. BTW I checked and it's S-On =(
Thanks for your help.
I bought a refurbished, factory unlocked HTC one m8 off eBay in February. I just got my hands on it last week. I live in India.
I have some experience with rooting the phone and installing custom rims. I'm currently using the HTC one m7 with ViperOne 8.0.0 on top.
I have a few questions that I need to find the answer to before I do anything on the m8.
1. What are the methods to s-off the phone?
Bootloader unlocked using htcdev
Hboot version is - 3.16
Running stock Rom 4.4.2, that I'm assuming comes with an at&t m8
2. Do I need to flash a firmware/radio for the phone to work in India?
3. Do I need to be looking at custom roms made specifically for the at&t version? Or can I flash any Rom built for the international version?
4. Is there a way to convert the phone to an international firmware/radio, etc. So I can flash Rom/mod meant for international version?
I'm not sure I explained my questions correctly, please ask if further info/explanation is required

And you be flashing Viper again I assume.
You'll need to use Sunshine S-Off. It cost $25, but it is guaranteed to work. They run a diagnostic check to make sure, and only ask for the payment then.
Once you are S-Off, you can go superCID and flash the 4.16.401.10 RUU, or flash the same version firmware.
In your situation, I would run the RUU instead of just flashing the firmware. Just my opinion. You could probably just flash the firmware at that point. The RUU is always the safest method though.

It depends on whether the bands needed to work on your carrier (3G and LTE, if applicable) are already supported by the AT&T version. If not, then you need to flash a radio that does support your carrier's bands.
