It works great. It took some time because I had to find Win7 32 bit with direct internet connection (I'm on Win8 64 bit) but at the end it is S-OFF.
Thank you!
Now I have another problem. After S-OFF with this method I can not start Bluetooth. Tried with wiping data (factory reset) but no luck. It would be nice to have radio to download. Maybe that would help my situation.
For now I will try with different ROM.

you don't have to reflash the radio, just reflash a new rom (of course clean install)

Thanks. Just flashed same ROM over (dirty flash) and now it is OK.
Is that link for full stock?
Warning to everyone. Don't flash CM10 (unless you want to stay with it) because you want be able to get back to stock. I tried that and ended up with mixed version that FC. Luckily I had backup before all this and that helped.
Yes but deodexed, and you're right, we can't go back to stock factory untill htc release the rom firmware separately like samsung etc

Do I need S-OFF for custom ROM? After unlocking the bootloader I flashed stock rooted rom with custom twrp and now when phone starts it's in airplane mode and asks me to input decryption key. Wtf is that? I've never seen that on my other phones happen. Does S-OFF help here?
Thanks in advance.

Actually you don't really need s-off for cus-rom, except you want to tweak the device itself. For the problem recovery, I suggest to using cwm from developer '4m8' thread

Then yesterday i saw there was a update so i tried to update.
Download it then ask for restart i restarted it then
HTML:
Unable to update
E: unknow volume for path [.....zip]
E: Can't mount INTRENALSDCARD: Download/OTA_ENDEAV...zip
So i mounted it and when to the path and opened the zip
Got a validation error. so i disable validation then it throw loads of errors so restarted phone factory rest it. and tried again.
Same problem can anyone please help me :?
edit: also tried clearing cache
You need to have stock recovery and stock (unmodified) ROM.
RUU updates can only be installed on locked/relocked bootloaders
OTA updates need root removed
Whats the status of your bootloader?
You on stock recovery?
Either way, you can get updates just not the way your trying.

1. Charge your phone before flashing anything.
2. Lock/relock your bootloader
3. Install a RUU
Sure you will lose your apps, but you will get a proper update, some people have reported slowdowns from the OTA.

Here is your RUU > http://db.tt/eYSlILnf
Listen carefully.
Charge your phone, FULLY - I don't want another user who runs into problems because of low battery.
Lock your bootloader if its unlocked. (Important)
Enter fastboot on your phone (hold power & volume down until your bootloader shows - then enter fastboot, you use then power button to select fastboot whilst in the bootloader screen)
Plug official USB cable from phone into PC.
It should now say fastboot USB on your phone.
Double click the RUU on your PC to install it.
Done.

you will lose all your apps and you will need to install them again from the play store, but its recommended.

Your welcome, (I'll probably receive another warning from dropbox now for sharing too much data again)
This is the latest OS for the phone, running android 4.0.4
You will now have silky home screen smoothness.
You can fix that dreaded 3button menu at the bottom (settings, display/gestures)
Better battery
Better optimisations with CPU/GPU
Updated bootloader
Plus more.
Enjoy.
Edit: thanks for following simple instructions, you'd be surprised how many people can't and run into all sorts of problems.

Hi Chris,
I have rooted my phone once but didn't install any custom rom, I had installed superuser type of applications to install few things but I kept continuing on stock ROM.
After re locking it again do I still need to put RUU on myphone to get this update?
My OS version is 1.29.720.11, do you know from where I can find RUU for this.
Well, I have re locked my phone but still the update is not getting installed, it come to option screen (where we have fastboot and all other options) everytime I reboot and from there it goes no where and I have simply reboot it to come out of it.
Can you please help?
Cheers mate.

No dice. Rebooting to recovery even with that just leaves me staring at the boot image.
EDIT: I remember reading that those who took the KitKat OTA got a different boot image that makes going back to Jellybean difficult, if not impossible. Could that have anything to do with this?

Bah, pay me no mind. I was trying to flash a CWM recovery because that's what I'm familiar with. I tried the one you just named and it works fine.

Guys KEEP IN MIND:
These are not officials, these are fairly beta builds. You will get errors, I was hoping this would reach some crack-flashers.

How can we get onto official CM then?
I know it has something to do with the kernel. We can't downgrade the kernel to the one CM is using? Or we have to wait until CM move up to kernel 3.4?

The latest Nightly is from February, which is 4.4.2.
Honestly keep checking that website, and check XDA.
Since the bootloader has been unlocked there should be a lot of movement / action in the dev section.
I would honestly not flash anything older, I mean feel free to mess around w/ kernel that are newer than 4.4.2 on CM.
I can't promise anything if you're on stock. I hope that helped at least a bit.

I was, but in the end I followed @ATTACK 's advice and used the apps from the Play Store. My impatience and forgetfulness caused me to butt my head against a metaphorical brick wall a few times, but I managed.
Hi,
I am not new to rooting and flashing but I seem to have jammed.
I can flash custom recoveries(used both CWM and TWRP) no bother but I cannot flash rom.
I have tried pushing and side loading. TWRP just says failed.
CWM says cannot open update.zip from tmp (bad)
I am unlocked.
I am S-ON so I don't know a way around that atm without a ROM. I have tried reinstalling stock but failed.
HTC one M8 UK EE network.
Would love to fix this please.
I'm a novice, this is my first android phone but I believe you have to be s-off to flash ROMs. I'm on EE too, what I done was paid for Sunshine, about £14 I think, that unlocked the bootloader and s-off. I can flash ROMs no issues.

You don't need to be s-off to flash a custom rom.. just a unlocked bootloader.
Put the rom on your internal sdcard not external sdcard and try again.

As I would, normally.
Toolkits cause more issues than they solve.
Try:
fastboot erase cache
Then flash recovery again, and see if that helps.
Also, do you get the phone model number as a response when you type both:
adb devices
fastboot devices
finally fixed it. Now enjoying Venom.

Not entirely sure how i fixed it but I'll list what I did.
Usually I work from a mac but decided to start afresh on my desktop.
I downloaded venom for m8
reflashed TWRP recovery.
Booted to recovery.
wiped cache and such.
Then adb side loaded the rom.
Some reason it worked. I have done this a good few times previously and with various rooms, not just venom.
I was using the AIO toolkit to side load this rather than the ADB cmd prompt.
Thanks for posting the steps that worked for you.
Like you said, hard to say what fixed it. Perhaps getting away from the toolkit, maybe just re-flashing recovery (even though you had done so previously) or wiping cache.
If moving a ROM to the device form the PC, I prefer adb push to adb sideload. Sideload seems to fail sometimes where push is fine. Push is some more steps (booting recovery and a few taps there to flash the ROM) but it seems more reliable. Although if it worked, it worked!
Hello everyone,
I have seem similar threads about this happening to windows 8 users, but my case is slightly different. as of yesterday my fastboot was working perfectly fine, until I tried to flash this RUU ( I was trying to downgrade my OS so I could use rumrunner to unlock my device), when I tried to flash the RUU I heard the alert message from windows that my phone was disconnected. ever since my pc never recognizes my phone while in bootloader, although it works perfectly fine while on the system.
In the devices manager MyHTC drivers show with the yellow triangle and the errorcode 10 (failed to start devices)

here is what I have tried already.
Install the usb 3.0 windows update( said already had it, plus this was working before so doubt it is the problem)
flash RUU.exe from here
Install and reinstall HTC drivers (multiple times)
restart computer
try different usb ports/cables
and I think this is all I have tried, will keep trying more stuff and update the post with information, has anybody encountered a similar problem or knows a fix?
Thanks in advance
EDIT: phone is now unlocked, also I'm on stock recovery. I also think the problem is that my bootloader got corrupted when the phone disconnect since I had hoot 1.57 prior to the bad ruu. Can the OTA fix my bad hboot? Will I lose root if I do that?
You are s-off, why do you need rumrunner? I don't know why your drivers will just stop working. I suggest running a distro of Linux and follow the below threads to ruu to 4.4.2 firmware (that one is pre-rooted so you can run the command to manually unlock your bootloader.)

You could always use a live boot CD as most distros allow that. I suggest linux as fastboot would always work so we can rule out the PC having the issues.

Yes I have not discarded it being a computer issue, I have a Linux mint dvd at home and I will try that as soon as I get there and let you guys know.
Edit: Oh something that may be important is that the bootloader won't display fastboot USB unless I navigate through the menu, and the text will glitch while changing from fastboot to fastboot USB. That is the main reason I think is a corrupted bootloader.

Glad to hear that, that glitch is unrelated to my fastboot issue although I didn't have the issue before, but that means
It could still be a driver problem. One quick question, will updating ota remove my root status?

RUU with that zip, lock the bootloader with Scotty's command, unroot, then do the below command.
Fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
Be sure you are completely stock and unrooted before locking and turning s-on. You can upgrade to the newer 4.4.3 software with either vzw ota or if you do not have vzw service you can with HTC Sync or the ruu exe for s-on if you get your drivers working.

and using that command will not show relocked nor tampered? I want to return to full stock. I know I sound skeptical but it is just that all the post that I have seen shows a way long and harder process.

RUU would remove tampered, Scotty's command would make the bootloader locked and the fastboot command will put the phone back to s-on.

Thank you so much, everything worked like a charm perfectly stock.
Hi all,
I will receive my new 10 tomorrow. Is there a guide so I can root it right away? Not sure but I assume it will be a wwe version (401?)
I should unlock it via htcdev and what's next?
Thanks!

As usual .. after unlock, install TWRP and install SuperSU.zip
You need to read and understand this first : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/development/psa-htc-policy-unlocking-bootloader-t3365986
and here is the TWRP : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-t3358139
Thanks for the answer. Both links give me an error in the xda app. Know where to find them but just FYI.
So I need to replace the recovery without doubt. Hmm, not sure if I want that reading the things about ota and stock recovery. I'm actually waiting for mike1986 to create a custom rom for the 10 but up until now no news about that.

Prety interested in this one too... Looked around and on some sites it said that you can do it using various apps... I would also like to keep it as stock as possible but rooted, at least at the beginning
Is there any one touch root solution
What versions of SuperSU are people trying and having success with?
Latest versions had issues on my M9 so had an older version working great!

Nope, and it as much as says so a few posts above yours.
I unlocked my device via htcdev, flashed trwp latest version and sideloaded the last beta version of supersu (2.71). These steps did the trick although some apps that require root (fstrim for example) claim I need to root the device. Rootchecker on the other hand claim my device is rooted. Main reason for me to unlock was adaway to get an almost ad free device.

Was your device encrypted? Thought all devices are and you loose all userdata when you install TWRP. or even when you Unlock via htcDev?

It will wipe when you unlock but unlike previous years, because it is encrypted it will forget its access when you s-off as well.
The update is now available in my region but since I unlocked and rooted, how do I apply this? I assume nothing will get lost? Is there anybody with the ota file so I can at least restore stock recovery?

How could I backup stock recovery? Backing up the rest is done with twrp but stock recovery wasn't possible of course. What I understood was the stock recovery could be pulled from RUU and since I'm on the wwe 401 version I was not afraid I couldn't find that. Only did not expect an ota that quick

Typical verizon removed the "Enable OEM unlock" option from the developer settings. Hopefully someone will figure out temproot quickly.

in my opinion I would not even bother with the OTA now that your unlocked and rooted. you will start seeing custom stuff soon enough. I'm still waiting for any info on mine even being shipped out.
What is the correct root procedure to keep signal?
I've tried:
1 unlock bootloader via htcdev.
2 flash TWRP.
3 flash SuperSU
4 run SunShine
5 re-enable data encryption via settings > storage
It then reboots and I see HTC logo (thought it was encrypting without giving any indication, so I left it overnight) and it was stuck in this state. In the morning I force rebooted and was still unencrypted and without signal, so I attempted step 5 with same result...

That's always good
I've attempted to root it again and now it works, it's rooted, with s-off, unlocked, and encrypted and with signal working.
Not sure why you lose root after format data, is that normal?
