Hi,
I just got done setting up the wife's Note 4, and was excited to give the speed test a try. Because Verizon LTE is congested and crap in my area, I didn't expect much. I wasn't disappointed. 9.5 down, 5.0 up. I have 50/5 DSL with Centurylink, and expected to get some great speeds from the speediest when on wifi. I'm getting an average of 7 down and 3 up. I have a Netgear Nighthawk router that handles the wifi. On my Macbook Air, I get 26 down and 4.6 up. On a wired connection, I get 46 down and 4.6 up. I am not sure what's going on.
Anyone else having wifi issues with their note? Any suggestions on a fix?
Other than that, this phone is damned good. No other complaints. I'm thinking of getting a black one when BB gets them in stock.
Thanks
Mine's been hit or miss, and I can't tell if it's my Note or my router. First time I ran SpeedTest I got full speed-plus. I got 64.87 Mbps down and 6.90 Mbps up (I say plus because I'm only paying for 60!) but yesterday I was only getting 34.5... But my concern comes from the fairly frequent drops I get while on WiFi. I use Internet Speed Meter Lite which shows my network activity speed in the top notification bar and while using certain apps, especially Facebook and theChive, while trying to load images it'll just hang. Could be an app issue as well, but when I turn the WiFi off and switch to 4G everything loads as fast as expected.
My router is a Netgear Nighthawk that I bought about eight months ago. I guess that I'm concerned that this is a dud device. My wife and I both work from home and we have our phones on Wifi most of the time during the day. My day-to-day use would be affected by bad wifi.
There is definitely something wrong with the wifi... Mine struggles to get past 5Mbps even on a 50 Mbps router. Note 3? 50 = 50. Note 4? 5 = 50? wtf...
No, I get about 125 Mbs download
Sent from my Galaxy Note 4 on Verizon unlimited!
I picked up my note 4 tonight. It struggles with wifi, just like my wife's note 4. I'm not sure what the deal is with it. Weak antenna? Doesn't play well with my router?
I'm also not sure what to do with it. I could return it and go back to my S3 for the time being.

I don't know either. B, G, N all seems to be horrible speeds. Signal strength is excellent. I've tried playing with my router but its a top of the line Asus N66U with no results and I shouldn't have to.
-Macbook.
- Note 3
- Note 2
- S 2
- iMac
- PS 3
All play excellent and reach my max DSL max of 30 Mbps.
- Note 4
Sucks! 4-5 Mbps is about what it maxes out at.. For no reason!!!

Try a speed test on the 2.4 ghz network and see what that looks like. I just ran a speedtest on my 2.4 ghz network and got 74.91 down and 23.65 up

Yeah that's an AC router. Switch it to B, G or N and let us know how that goes.

Really weird then I have no clue... I know most users of AC routers its fine with and those of us with B, G, N ones are having issues. I dunno what to say at this point but its still clearly the note 4 that has problems.
I've tried it on 5GHz a/n/ac and 2.4GHz b/g/n, and got similar results. Of course the range on 5GHz was less than 2.4, so I went and stood near the router.
If I had one Note that was having a problem and one that wasn't, then I might think that it was just the one device. Both of them come out almost exactly the same on speed tests. There's something about my setup that the note doesn't like. I'll be damned if I can figure out what that is.
Wifi speeds are incredibly inconsistent. I get 320mbps down and 21 up on my computer. Phone speedtests give anywhere from 125 down to 15 down, sometimes literally within seconds of each other.
Good-> amazing
I've been downloading around 30-35(Down), Home : DSL : Actual
At work I'm getting, 6ms 49.96(Down) 79.37(Up), DSL(?) : Ookla
I leave download booster on.
Hmmm. Maybe there is something wrong with the wifi antennas in these phones that I have. I guess I'll return them. Sucks, because the rest of the phone is fine. Just bad wifi.
Oh well, early adopter syndrome strikes again.

So, not having run a speedtest on my laptop in a while, I actually thought my roommate was lying to me when he said we should be getting faster internet. Apparently he's not. Question being, with the speeds people are pulling on LTE, why can't I pull the same speeds from my wifi on my laptop as my GN2? My laptop is getting 50mbps down, while my Note tops out around 25mbps although yesterday I pulled a couple over 30mbps which has never happened before. Can anyone explain why I'm topping out like that when so much more is capable?
It can be a number of factors, buildings , wind , weather, static interference, anything could be a factor. It won't always be consistent.

Those factors have nothing to do with wifi or why my phone wont go over 25mbps when it can go way higher than that.
It could be the type of wifi antenna that we have on the phone. Max speed is achieved using MIMO streams which required multiple wifi antennas. I suspect that GN2 wifi have only one antenna, one stream up or down.

Just seems odd that it maxes out at that speed on wifi yet with LTe its capable of double that. Does anyone else get more than 25mbps on their wifi?
Mobile app might not use as much data. Not as much time to optimize the connection and really fly.
The pc site may be allowed more bandwidth to get a speedy connection with.
My two cents.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
LTE and wifi are not using the same antenna. MINO is the basic for wifi (N) to achieve higher speed. If you go out and by wireless adaptor. Usually there 2 type of Wifi (N) offer 150N and 300N. The 150N has only one attenna, and the 300N usually has at least 2 or more.
So... still curious, what are others getting on their home wifi?

When I look at the network in the task manager on windows I believe its actually like 130? Im at work now, have to check when I get home? Is that the correct way to find out?
computer - 32
phone - 27
At home I have 40/20MB and on my phone I get 38/19 at work I have 100/100MB and on my phone I get 85/80MB.

So my link speed right now is actually 144 mbps, though during busy times it might go down to 130. It definitely seems like we are supposed to have better internet because I remember a couple months ago it was only 72. Anyways, what exactly am I doing wrong? Shouldn't I be getting even better than 50mbps on my laptop, at least? Also, my router came from Comcast, do I need to upgrade it to get the full effect or are my laptop and phone somehow limited? At home I'm getting better than 50 on my laptop so shouldn't I be getting 35 or 40 then, no problem, on my Note? It would be aggravating if Comcast was charging me for faster internet but not telling me I needed a new modem to take advantage of it. Actually, more like stupid than aggravating.

Yes you will always loose some throughput over wireless unless you have a beast of a router but plugged in with the hardwire should give you full speed. I would test by hard wiring to the router with your laptop and running a speed test then hard wire to the modem and do a speed test. If both router and modem are the same. Then its a wireless issue.

Well, I'm obviously not going to hardwire my laptop or Note. Would simply spending 50 bucks on a router from best buy, also avoiding a rental fee from comcast, improve my optimal speeds for my laptop and N2?

That's just to trouble shoot if it is your router or modem that is bad so you don't buy a new one when that was not the problem.

Well it's just the normal router that comcast gave us but I believe this was actually the second time we've updated so couldn't it be possible our comcast issued router is outdated? I've never been able to get better on any public wifi. I've just always had this creeping feeling that my account is just old enough to be on a weird plan where I am throttled overall no matter where I'm at opposed to other people. I've just never been able to duplicate the speeds on any phone that other people in my same exact area have. Like I'm handicapped for some reason., I mean, I basically get the same speeds on my N2 that I got on my Sensation, if not lower sometimes, and that just makes no damn sense whatsover. Don't we have a kikass radio over the Sensation?

I'm seeing similar to what you're seeing. I just had Verizon replace my router with a new Actiontec MI424WR which has gigabit & 802.11n. I have FiOS 50/25.
On a laptop running Windows 7 with an Intel 6300n wireless adapter one room away from the router I get 48-55 down. Sitting next to the laptop with the GN2 running ParanoidAndroid 3.15 with the LTE updated modem I get no more than 20 down. If I hold the phone 12 inches from the router in the other room, my Speedtest result hits as high as 33 down. If I take the laptop into the room and run the test next to the router, I consistently see 58 down.
Edit: Prior to getting my router replaced, I had the old Actiontec with 802.11g and if I recall, the laptop & GN2 both got around 12-15 down. Never better. Replacing the router made a huge difference but the laptop saw a high max down.
Hey guys,

Noticed that I had a bunch of messages come through when I turned WiFi off.
Thanks!

Cel fi is an in home cell tower for the most part. If you look on your coverage map at our location and service is shotty they will hook you up with this thing. Works great.
Rate this thread to express how you think the ZTE Axon 7's Wifi performs. A higher rating indicates that it has excellent range, throughput, and signal strength. Like when you're taking a dump in the bedroom upstairs, do your videos have to buffer or do they come through without interruption?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Both the Wifi, and cell signals are weaker than the Nexus 6P and the Samsung S7 Edge by a fair margin. With the Wifi, this is most notable when you're on a level of a house other than the level of the router. The Wifi cuts out periodically, and its signal strength is about 1/3rd of the other two phones in the same location.
It's cell signal on T-Mobile is also significantly weaker than the signal with the same sim card in the same location on the 6P and S7 Edge. Difference is -114db (Axon) vs. -101db (Nexus).

Well crap, I'm planning on buying one of these on tmobile and I live in an already mediocre signal area. I get about -122 to at best -106 at home though I just use wifi. Have you noticed any real world issues with the speed? Is -114 the best it gets in a max signal area?
I am on Tmobile as well which makes this disappointing. A few of the other issues noted didn't really sway me but this could be a dealbreaker for me. As I have a S7 and am happy with it, short of small(ish) display, I cannot deal with poor signal on either cell or WiFi where as now it's pretty fantastic. I have 2 weeks to decide as Newegg still claims to be shipping the gray model then. Thanks for sharing.
Ahhhhhhhh. I still haven't received my phone but between this and camera issues I'm feeling very concerned about my purchase.
Axon 7 has weak Wi-Fi performance. 5ghz
fluctuates like a bouncing ball. Really hope it's not a bad antenna design with this phone.
Anyone else tested wifi ?
The guy from the zte webinar didn't even know it's AC capable phone. This doesn't inspire confidence.
My WiFi was running around 60mb on a 100mb link.
PLUS, I am only 3 feet from the router, nothing in between them.
Yep, same here. In the same places I used to get no service with 2014 devices (like the s4 era stuff) I get no service with the Axon 7. Most of my previous devices (s7e, n6p, 5x, n6, blah blah blah) all retained at least a weak signal in those areas. Wifi seems actually better than my S7 Edge Exynos though.

That's good but not much of a test for a Wi-Fi device.
You need to move at least 20 feet from the router.
All devices get good Wi-Fi performance if your a few feet from the router.
I have tested 50 dollar phones that get better Wi-Fi performance than this $400 phone.

Actually I'm testing this phone in the same area as several older and newer devices with no dead spots.
The axon 7 is quite weak by comparison. No other device tested fluctuates signal strength when holding device still.
Very strange occurrence.
Could be a bad antenna design or maybe a few bad units. Hope it's a firmware fix!
It sounds badly. Radio volume can be pop up in the software but to tell true it does not help too much in practice without a good antenna. Also battery drain will be increased dramatically. It is hard to imagine such software bug which causes weak signal strength in both wifi and LTE signal cases. So it could be antenna issue most likely and if antenna design is bad that's it. Move on!
It would be good to read opposite experiences which can keep the hope.
It must be the lower end QCA6164. Max I can connect with axon 7 is 433Mbps. That is if I stand 1 to 3 feet from the router. More of a problem is the poor weak signal as you move away from router. Then connection is down to 190Mbps after 10 feet to 20 feet.
Must be a bad antenna system in this phone.
Most important part of a mobile device is connectivity. This phone is clearly weaker LTE and Wi-Fi than other phones.
Not everything that shines is gold
In my daily use, I don't notice any difference in wifi strength or speed vs my Nexus 6P or my Moto X Pure. In my back room, I still get as good or better speeds on speedtest.net using the app to test. I know this doesn't rate the db, but I notice no real difference.
It also stays connected about 70 yards up the street, about on par with my last few phones.

Once again, I don't have actual db numbers, but my "bars" show lower but my connection is just as good and fast, or even slightly better in certain areas.
At my work, I had 4-5 bars of LTE on my 6P.... On the Axon 7, I have 2-3. But, the LTE speeds on the Axon 7 are on par to what the 6P was, and actually slightly better.
At home, I had 1-2 bars on my 6P - It's the same on the Axon 7, but when I go to the back of the house I would drop signal on almost all phones (except my Moto X Pure), but the Axon 7 will still let me carry on a conversation and not cut out.
So, I don't know what the actual numbers are, but I know I get signal where I didn't before and it's typically on par with, or better than my 6P.

Other accounts on the ZTE forums are saying that is substantially worse than 6P or even the mediocre Oneplus One. This gives me hope at least.

I have one of the best routers out Asus gt5300
The phone was in the same room as the router. About 15 feet away.
I guess I thought it would be better then this. The wired computer hits about 900 to 950 down every time.

Is the phone just maxed out?
Any thoughts.
Max speed on wifi
Your reach the maximum wifi can handle. ((assuming 5ghz @ 80mzh channel width ))
I have Xfinity xfi 1GB service. I get 475mbs down and 40up on my pixel2xl.
The Xfinity xfi router is amazing. My Ubiquiti uap-ac access point only goes to 350mb. And luxul 1900 ap w/controller goes to 250mb.
You have some amazing download speed sir I must say.
I cannot seem to get more than 200mbps down with my Pixel 2 XL on my home WiFi and my wired desktop consistently hits between 500-600 down. And yes that's on my 5ghz WiFi network.
Any ideas on what I can to do speed it up?

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/4159309311
I have one of the best routers out Asus gt5300
The phone was in the same room as the router. About 15 feet away.
I guess I thought it would be better then this. The wired computer hits about 900 to 950 down every time.

Is the phone just maxed out?
Any thoughts.

You need to compare WiFi to WiFi. Wired will always be faster

I cannot seem to get more than 200mbps down with my Pixel 2 XL on my home WiFi and my wired desktop consistently hits between 500-600 down. And yes that's on my 5ghz WiFi network.
Any ideas on what I can to do speed it up?

5ghz doesn't really mean anything. You need to see the exact specs of your router WiFi speeds

So I setup my new Note 10+ Verizon Blue model and the first call I got at home, the other party mentioned that my phone sounded garbled. I went to make a few test calls, and every other one dropped. Websites would time out before loading unless I was on Wi-Fi. Speed tests gave me latency errors and 0 upload speed. Outdoors, the phone works great, but indoor reception and even when held a certain way causes a fast drop in signal. I moved the SIM card back to my Note 9 to compare the signal and here's what I found.
Note 9: -99 dBm to -106 dbm 29-35 asu (loads websites just fine and calls immediately go through)
Note 10+: -106 dBm to -116 dBm 99 asu (loads websites after 10+ seconds or they timeout, calls take 10-20 seconds to connect)
Apparently the 99 asu means that the signal is too weak calculate usability. Technical support spent over an hour with me testing every possible solution, even activating another SIM card. Either there is a very serious problem with the towers, and/or the Note 10+ has poor signal compared to the Note 9. Hopefully, it's not the latter because the phone is amazing and faster in every other way. Has anyone else noticed weaker signal?

I noticed I was having issues in a place that I didn't have a great signal before but no issues with streaming on my note 9. Could barely pull up websites on my phone. I swapped my firmware from unlocked to TMobile. I'm gonna run that for a few days and see how it does.
I've been using my note 10+ and noticed I disconnect in some spots on WiFi I didn't previously. I do think there will be some models with bad signal. It's impossible to prevent all lemons. That being said, sometimes carrier networks and towers don't give the full story until afterwards. Were there any network outages that day? How does WiFi calling work for you?
Noticed the dam thing ..I can see the tower from my bedroom...my pixle 3 has full bars and we're as my note has 1 maybe 2 !!!

What you describe is what I was experiencing on my Unlocked N10+ using an ATT Sim.
I flashed the ATT firmware/bloatware & My N10+ now works as good if not better than my N9.

I'm using Verizon with Verizon firmware. There is definitely an issue with the network. The tower is a block away and even my Note 9 is getting slower data, but it works. The Note 10+ times out completely. Friends an family have confirmed the same issue. That 7-10 dBm difference in signal between the Note 9 and 10+ is apparently enough to cause weak signal to become no usable signal. I may swap it out and see if that helps.

Don't waste anymore time. Exchange it immediately. Brand spanking new phone should not do that.

i'm having similar troubles. Unlocked Note + on T-mobile. The connection is just not what it used to be on my note 9 & it seems to have an affect on on battery. I enjoy the unlocked firmware for all that it is, but I didn't think I'd be sacrificing my data speeds for things like Truecaller and a bloat-free device
i have a verizon note10+ with verizon firmware and my service has actually been better then it was on my note 8

I'm testing this now on mine. Yeah I'm noticing in places where it was marginal for me, now my device is struggling a little. I flashed to T-Mobile yesterday. Checking it out now
Yeah im on Verizon as well and have noticed signal issues with both cell and wifi ..... I have a mesh network at home and this phone doesnt mesh very well just disconnects and reconnects
Went to VZW guy said I was the 3rd person today to complain about this issue .... Went back to my pixle 3

Really hoping this isn't a thing but I'll be damned if my speeds haven't been trash on T-Mobile
So Verizon had a confirmed semi-outage in the Los Angeles area which led to dropped calls and data timeouts which has been mostly fixed. I got a new SIM card and now the Note 10+ is getting within 3 dBm of the Note 9, and data speeds are comparable. So, yes the Note 9 got SLIGHTLY more stable reception but the Note 10+ still loads pages faster. What a weekend to have network issues with everyone blaming their new phones.
Yeah I have had noticeably worse signal than my oneplus 7 pro on Verizon. Really thinking about returning this thing
Hmm, exynos here. Not too good a signal here either in the UK with EE carrier
Verizon here with unlocked Note 10+ and getting same speeds as other S10 devices and XS Max.
Something isn't right with others.
Or I'm lucky?

Same here, unlocketd note 10+, I ignore bars, but if anything my coverage and bandwidth have improved with this phone. On XM(Verizon)

That's odd. I really want to like this phone but my speed is literally less than 1 mbps. That's so bad compared to getting around 10-15 easily with my oneplus 7 pro!
This kinda makes the phone unusable

Yeah the wifi reception on the note 10 seems to be terrible compared to my other devices.

Did your speeds increase with changing firmware? My note 10+ gets less than 1mbps where my oneplus 7 pro would easily get 10-15 mbps easily. Super disappointed in this phone so far.

Yeah, I wonder if it's a software glitch, or if it really is a hardware isssue. Looking at the teardowns of the note 10 and 10 plus I don't see why it would be a hardware issue.
