Any particular reason why you do not wish to update from your current android version to 4.1.2? This will definitely fix the issue. On a side note, TiBu is an awesome program and I gladly paid for the full version for the extra features and to support the dev. TiBu has definitely made life easier across a few phones and ROM flashings.

Rom Toolbox pro has all the tools you need to stop OTA updates

If you want to keep root and still update, you can use Voodoo OTA rootkeeper.

[Q] LG Software Update

Hi,
I just got my LG yesterday, and I rooted it via PurpleDrake.
Today, everyone once in a while, a pop-up comes up about LG's Software Update, asking me to update.
So, my question is this, will updating cause issues because of rooting?
Also, if so, how can I get rid of this stupid pop up asking me to update? [I did turn off OTAs, so I'm assuming this is not one?]

I doubt it is. For an OTA update as rooting your device will stop that happening,most likely an app update or something to do with lg agreements.

A software update can still attempt to install if you have not disabled OTA updates from your carrier somehow. Since you are rooted you should freeze the System updates process so it will not attempt to install the update and potentially remove root, or break something during the OTA install. This is not disabled automatically by just rooting, although some methods during root may also disable updates. I am not familiar enough with PurpleDrake to say if it does this or not. I do know that with IORoot you will still need to manually freeze the system update process.

Hi,
I got my G3 and noticed that there are some pre installed apps I can't remove (especially McAfee!). Therefore, I want to root my device in order to be able to unistall these apps. I am new at rooting, so my questions are
-How can I get updates on a rooted device? Is OTA possible or do I need to install updates via a pc tool?
-If OTA is not possible, where can I find the updates and how can I install them?
-Does LG update app inform me about updates on a rooted device or do I have to check manually on web?
-Are there any reasons why I shouldn't root my G3?

1. i have read ota with rooted device is possible (only without twrp!) but with lg flash tool its safer.
2. for example here... you can install them with lg flash tool.
3. if you do not turn off the ota update information you will be informed about updates but i recommend you to turn it off.
4. i think no.

I don't have experience with LG, but with other phones I've had OTA's will work on rooted device ONLY if you have stock recovery and ALL pre-installed apps, including bloatware. So if you delete McAfee, OTA's probably won't run. If you use TiBackup to freeze it, instead of deleting it, there's a good chance the OTA will run.
But I think it's probably safer to not take OTAs, if for no other reason than the next OTA could break root, and then you'd be stuck with McAfee.
Question, though: can you disable McAfee in the Application manager? If so, you would't have to root if that's your only reason.

@dusu84 I was not able to disable mcafee in app manager. I used Titanium Backup to freeze it.

you dont have to remove root before using lg flash tool... you will lost root anyway when you use lg flash tool.
you can choose between two flash variants... "cse" or "normal".
cse will wipe everything on your phone... normal keep your apps and data exist but you will lost root.

Get rid of "Software Update" notification at top

Hi, I need to hide android notification of updates pending, and disable updates permanently.
I have root, I forgot what to get I think it's busy box or X-something, but I've been out of root for a while so need help

Install titanium backup and freeze software updates
If you dont have root .then install package disabler pro and disable software updates.
Both of them are paid apps in playstore.

Thanks I ended up spending more time on this than I did rooting ! I used an app called uninstaller which requires root, and removed system updates 2x . This is only method which worked many others did not.
Package disabler was no dice and titanium backup I didn't want to pay for. Services disabler didn't fix either, nor do something called fota.
I think one of reasons I had so much trouble was because it had already downloaded the update.

OTA possible if bloat are removed?

Hello. I just purchased the US version of the Honor 7x, but really hate having apps like Instagram and Facebook on my phone. I don't use them. If I root my phone, is it possible to remove these apps and maybe a few unused Google apps and still receive any future OTA? Thanks in advance.

Good question phone hasn't arrived yet but definitely don't want crapbook and tweaker on it.

Sadly, on the first OTA for Mate2, removing one of the Huawei-created bloatware caused the update to fail. Don't know what the policy is now. So I'd keep backups of removed bloatware. (I think that the OTA was trying to update one of the missing bloatware but there was no option to ignore the error and continue with simply the OS upgrade.)

You can't apply OTA even if you unroot after root without even touching system apps. This is the case with 7X.

It's not the removing of bloat that causes problems with OTA's. It's what you have to do in order to remove bloat which is rooting the phone. Rooting modifies the system data which then fails the check performed when an OTA tries to install. Rooting modifies the system partition and adding twrp modifies the boot partition. So as of now doing anything other than unlocking the bootloader will give you problems whenever we get official OTA.

That's unfortunate. It has been many years since the Mate2 but I don't recall it being as restrictive back then. If I recall correctly, I was able to leave the phone rooted as long I restored stock bootloader and stock recovery. But the OTA failed when it was trying to update one or more of the Huawei apps so I only had to restore the boatware from TB.
I guess I should keep backups of all stock images before rooting. Thanks for the info.

This is very disheartening to hear. With the new additions (e. g. Facial recognition) supposedly incorporated into the next update, I would like to keep OTA. The other items taking up space on my phone is very annoying though. Oh well, I guess the apps aren't a big issue for now. I just wish Huawei would have let us choose our own apps.

Well eventually/hopefully, we'll get some devs to pick up development on the device where twrp, root, and custom roms will let us get our phones to the way we want them. I stayed away from twrp and rooting just for that reason. I just disabled all the crap they added that I don't use

Seeing that the initial popularity and price point for the quality of phone have been positive so far, I do think that will happen. I too am staying away until it occurs. I have ignored the apps I don't like for now, but truly miss apps like Adaway and Titanium Backup, which require root. Oh well, soon hopefully.

I have been able to remove a few apps

I've been rooting phones since the original (G1), but I've now arrived at the point where rooting is no longer the irresistible desire it used to be. I know heavily skinned versions of Android like EMUI & MIUI are not for everyone, but I actually enjoy them. I'm patiently waiting for the OTA. Once Oreo arrives, I might consider rooting, but I'm in no rush.

There are some apps you can uninstall without root.

You can uninstall third party apps like Facebook, that was the first thing I did

I haven't rooted or installed twrp yet until the L24 releases the stock firmware but as another user stated you can remove some of the third party apps. The ones that Huawei made system apps that can't be removed without root are the ones that would give problems with the ota like the stock launcher and the Sim toolkits and other various crap. I wish they would hurry up with the stock firmware release because there are some things I'd like to do that require root

U can remove the blotware without rooting by using adb ..

But again, removing system apps could cause the ota to fail if one of those apps tries to get updated and it's not there
