So I ordered the parts from a seller on ebay with 99% feedback. When the part arrived I took it straight from the mailbox to the repair store near my house and had them install it.
I was in a rush to pick it up so they didn't test it besides to see the dead battery sign.
I got home, charged it and powered it on and immediately noticed some issues with touch, especially the left side of the screen. The glass also seems to be less smooth and picks up EVERY SINGLE fingerprint.
Should I get a new screen or was it installed improperly? Is there anything I can do?
Also, if I do end up sending the glass back, where is a reliable replacement to be found?

A touchscreen/lcd replacement has been a hit-and-miss thing. The majority I've tried would have touchscreen problems in one form or another. Try YAMTT app from GooglePlay to locate the exact dead spots or dead bands, then flash the multi touch fix first. If it still fails, and you're buying from China, locate a vendor who fronts for a manufacturer of these glasses. Ask them, and they will tell you. Make sure they test the glass before shipping to you (these should have a QC pass stamp of some kind on the back of the glass), because you can never tell if it's OEM or not. Good luck.

Hi,
I've just had my HTC Desire for about a week and its been working fine, however i have just spotted a concerning water dot-like spot inside my touchscreen but its not affecting anything i do when i use it. I have not dropped it at all or done anything malicious so i'm assuming it was already there from the start. I don't have a screen protector yet but will be receiving it in the next couple days.
here it is > http: //i41.tinypic.com/2h2nsbb.jpg (remove space)
it might be hard to see but its there.
Does anyone know how i might clear that up or should i just leave it since its not really effecting the touchscreen. i'm not sure if i should get a replacement
Any suggestions welcomed.
cheers
I would insist on having it repaired or replaced from where ever you got it from. I'm guessing there is no obvious damage to the top of the screen?
Yeah, that would do my head in! A screen protector may well render it invisible though.
I would contact the provider and insist on a replacement. I would just say there is a mark on the inside of the screen, I wouldn't mention water if I were you, just to be on the safe side, it's one of those things where the conversation could get irksome.
Cheers for the replies..
I will see what 3 can do as i bought it on a PAYG. You can bearly see it until you look closely near light, thats why i only just noticed it yesterday.
No damage at all to the top screen let alone the phone. It still looks brand new. AMOLED screen is faultless and everything works fine.
I reckon it'll be annoying to get this replaced as they have limited stock but i'll see what 3 would suggest me to do when i go there tomorrow..
Ill start from the begining, I bought my phone about a month ago brand new from T-Mobile. The next day as I was getting into my car the phone slid out of my pocket and into the hole in the seat in between it and the center console, when I retrieved it there was a fine crack going across the screen. The LCD was not cracked and the phone functioned perfectly.
The next day after this while the phone was in my pocket the screen cracked again. Again the LCD was working fine. About a week later I sent the phone in for repairs (just a random guy nothing official as T-Mobile, Samsung and Asurion said I was SOL).
After about a week turn around I received the phone back, working perfectly and the screen fixed. About a day or two later the screen started freaking out (picking things I didnt touch and flying through the home screens on its own). Then all of a sudden the lower portion of the screen (just a little bit bigger than the lower app row) just stopped responding to touch all together.
I just now removed the screen myself thinking that be botched putting the screen back on. The LCD is in perfect condition. No burn marks, cracks, discolored pixels, anything. I then removed the case checking all the connection on the motherboard and everything seems secure.
I dont know what else to do maybe someone here can give me some suggestions or ideas. If all else fails I will file a claim and get a new one through asurion. Im just trying all my options before I burn more $$$ on this phone.
Thank you ahead of time for any help.

Sounds like a defective digitizer. Have you talked to the guy who did the replacement?

Ive tried but hes not responding to my text/calls
Call once more leave your name number and issue. If you dont hear back within 3-4 business days, call from a different number and plan constructively how to broach the issue. call recording might be an idea.

It was a paypal transaction, I just went ahead a filed a refund notice to his email.
Curious, why would Asurion say you are sol, isnt that what they are for? Isnt it accident insurance?
I bought a new screen with touch pad included, from China. The quality wasn't all that bad. One dead pixel and a dead touch area, for50€ was OK. Then it went to the flor and the touch screen just went dead all togheter.
I've already reassemble it, to make sure it wasn't some poor conection of components . What else should i do?
Just buy a new screen even thought this one is not cracked?
Apreciate any sugestion.
Thanks in advance.
I wouldn't buy from China, you can get the screen from wholesalgegadgetparts.com for about $75. All it takes is a hairline crack in the digitizer (might not see it in the glass) and the whole thing will not work. That site has a great return policy too, so you can plug the screen in and test it without actually installing it, and if it doesn't work you can send it back for a refund.
Edit - just noticed you aren't in the US. They don't ship internationally, but they do sell on eBay too (they might through there). Might wanna give them a call, they're good people.
Hello!
Today dropped my phone and screen got covered in spider web. The display itself looks fine, but its covered it spiderweb. The touchscreen doesnt respond at all.
What do i need to do now? I looked at local repair shops, they ask atleast 100 euros. But on ebay i can find lcd display+screen digitizer for 55 euros shipped, or screen digitizer starting from 10 dollars!
Can i buy only screen digitizer (as i understand that top layer of glass thats cracked is screen digitizer?) and replace it? Or changing LCD display along with screen digitizer is a must?

So this should fit..right? And are all 3 models LS970, E975 and e973 really same size? Cuz i`ve read people have got smaller screens than original from some sellers on amazon.
Replacing a digitizer is pretty hard and time consuming, that's why people usually replace the whole lcd+digitizer+glass assembly. You will also need adhesive and a heater/appropriate tools. It can be a great learning experience if you don't mind potentially busting your phone. There are no shortage of instructionnal videos on youtube on the subject.
Also, a new G2 is only 190$US .... Just saying ...

As i have two other phones. The g2 mini with Tegra and a razrHD. I'll give a try, thanks for the tip.
Well, i ended up ordering that LCD+Digitzer from ebay. Everything was fine for 2 months, now i have quite large spot that doesnt respond to touches. (See attachment) i already tried disconecting the lcd and digitizer..still same. Is it worth trying to flash another rom? I already flashed stock kdz (had stock before too..)
This happened just today, right after ghost touches went crazy and rondomly oppening everything.
EDIT: That spot is changing sizes..form remains, but it got a bit smaller now. Its truly weird. I put the phone outside for few minutes (its +9C outside) and touchscreen works fine now! What is going on?
EDIT 2: After few minutes of usage, the spot is coming back

I had dropped my LG (more than a couple of times) on its face and it seemed to suffer stroke-like symptoms: one side of the screen was completely dead to touch, and the rest of the screen would occasionally act as though I was touching everywhere which opened programs and messed with the keyboard. I was stubborn and just lived with it and over time, it stopped trying open programs and whatnot. Recently, dropped it again, this time it was a bit more serious. Still no visible damage to the screen, but the "dead spot" moved to the centre of the screen, and again, occasionally tries to open programs and add words to my messages.
At first I thought it all could be related to a software issue. Unfortunately, after installing new ROMS, it never fixed the problem. I bought a digitaliser screen from Ebay as well. I'm waiting on the adhesive tape still so I can't say if this will fix anything. I kind of have a suspicion that its a loose connector (the top middle part of the screen gets super hot only after a couple of minutes of being left on).
I'm just wondering if you have tried taking it apart again to recheck the wiring? I think we may have similar problems (your situation is the first I've come by on the internet that is anywhere close to what's happening to my screen). Thanks so much!
I changed the thread title to hopefully get a bit more visibility. It seems that my issue stems from faulty replacement parts. So that leads to my question:
If you have replaced your screen/frame; where did you get your parts?
Are you happy with the product, or did you have issues as well?
-- Original Post Below --
Last week, Precious hit the parking lot at work and the screen shattered.
I ordered a replacement screen online, and followed the iFixit teardown to disassemble Precious, and rebuild it.
New screen works great, no dead pixels, no touch issues.
However, I'm terrified that I have damaged the antennas when removing the back panel.
I don't have any raw numbers from before, but I'd estimate that I'm getting about half as much signal strength as before. Prior to the replacement (even after the screen was cracked) I managed ~2 bars in my basement, and large buildings. Max strength outside. After screen replacement, I have no signal in my basement, and can barely maintain a data connection while inside large buildings (work, malls, etc).
I opened it back up to ensure that everything was reassembled properly, and everything LOOKS right. When removing the back panel I don't feel like I cause much torque to the case, but now I'm not sure.
Is it possible that I damaged the antenna during removal? Does anyone know how I can test the antennas? Any other ideas?
I appreciate any suggestions!
Thanks
It sounds like you and I are having similar issues as I have recently replaced my LCD screen and now have noticeably reduced cell signal reception. Have you found a fix for your issue yet?
My replacement screen will be here tomorrow. Ill post back if I have reception issues.

I have no leads unfortunately. I can't even find what leads are what radios. Upon closer inspection, there is a single antenna in the mid-frame as well.
Does anyone know which leads are for which radios? That might help isolate the problem, as I don't seem to have any bluetooth or wifi issues, only cellular.
I assembled my old cracked screen, frame and phone back to the way it was originally and now my reception is back working correctly, besides the cracked screen of course. I'm chalking this up to possibly some knock off screen/frame part that might be using different materials and is causing this signal degradation. I'll be returning this one and have already ordered a new part from another distributor. Hopefully I'll have better results once I get it installed.
Would you mind sharing where you purchased your faulty one from? I ordered mine from wholesalegadgetfix on ebay. Item: http://www.ebay.com/itm/151951830737
Please keep us updated on the quality if your second attempt, and who you sourced it though.
Thanks!
Here's the link to the first one that I purchased:

The new one that I just purchased today is the exact same one that you linked to. If you are having issues with the screen and frame purchased from them I am worried that I will yet again have the same reception problems. The site said OEM part, over 100 sold and they have a good rating so it looked like a safe bet.
Either way, I will update when I get the new one installed. Not looking good now but fingers crossed.
I'm not having any signal issues with the display I bought. I did the screen/digitizer assembly only though. No frame on mine.

Crap, I was hoping it would be the other way around. It sounds like there is at least one supplier out there creating a flawed product in one way, shape, or form.
Thanks for the link PiousInquisitor. The screen only route isn't an option for me, because my speaker grill has a hole in it from the drop (that was the impact point).
Does anyone have a lead on a known good Frame/Screen replacement part?

Thanks for the suggestion but I am in the same boat. I have to replace the whole screen/digitizer + frame assembly.
My new replacement LCD/Digitizer and frame came in and I installed it over the weekend. I've done some testing between work and my home office down in the basement, and I'm happy to say that I have reception again in each of the areas where I wasn't able to connect before. One thing I'd like to point out is that this time I cleaned all of the contacts with alcohol and tightened down the screws far more than normally would. I actually took a screw and screwed it into each of the holes first before installing that plastic mid-frame to make sure each screw had the room and wasn't blocked for some reason. I'm not sure if doing all of this was really needed but I thought since that plastic mid-frame is used as part of the antenna system, I wanted a close tight fit, so it couldn't hurt anything. So far so good, if anything changes I'll come back and post an update.
Good Digitizer/LCD/Frame combo.
I had the same problem as you in that the first screen/frame combo I ordered off ebay was a great screen but the frame was not a perfect fit for the mid-frame assembly at the bottom that contains the cellular antennas and therefore I had poor signal after installing it. I tried numerous ways to make sure the antenna contacts were good but nothing worked. I put the shattered screen/frame back on and had full signal. After returning that one I ordered the following one from Nevada that advertises Gorilla Glass and the oleophobic coating that the original did and it works great. Full signal, full 1920x1080 resolution and a perfect fit.
I'm not able to post the URL so just go to (www diymobilerepair com/lg-nexus-5x-lcd-touch-screen-assembly-frame). Its missing the periods after www and before com.

The 2nd screen replacement worked great! Phone works like new. Fortunately I was able to return the first screen I purchased for a refund and purchased the screen on frame that you mentioned. Thanks for the recommendation!
