Can you take OTA while s-off/unlocked and stay? - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Okay if i go 100% to stock 4.2.2 the version my phone came with from Verizon can i remove root and take OTA update and stay s-off/unlocked or will the OTA re-lock/s-on or no ive heard mixed answers about this thank you for any help.

Currently our OTA updates will not reset the lock status or secure flag. You must be completely stock though. If you have one thing modified in system, you will have update issues.

You are awesome did it and worked i wonder why people say it re-locks and s-on it don't make sense that means if yours stock and just use it for root you don't need to worry anymore.

Correct, just freeze them, then unfreeze them when you take OTA

Cannot software update after rooting

Rooted my phone, now server tells me updated aren't supported because the phone is modified. I know there probably aren't any updates yet, but still want to know how to get around this just in case there is, thanks!

You need to odin back to stock.. download the .tar in development section and follow directions. Its easy. You will need this if you ever want to go back to stock or un root for warranty etc

Yea that's what I was afraid of, lol. Honest opinion though, is it worth going back to stock this early? I'm sure no updates have been implemented yet right?

Entirely up to you, honestly it isn't that hard to make a backup of all your apps with 'Helium' and restore onto the stock rom, etc. It's the challenge everyone faces when flashing ROMs. I would wait until there's an update and see what changes it brings before reverting. But you will want to download the stock .tar for instances you need to go back to stock.
Is there a way to root the device again and still maintain having all blotware removed? Or will it add back all carrier and third party apps?

If you did a nand backup, it will install the bloat again and also with the .tar file unless stated bloat has been removed.

All official updates are complete with bloat, the only way is to install the update and remove the bloat afterwards or wait for someone to release a debloated rooted build.

Just wait. When an official update is released a debloated version usually appears on the forums that is prerooted and ready for CWM/TWRP.
I'm also getting the same message. Is it because super user is installed or because of my custom recovery? Or both? If I remove super user will it work? Or would I also need to flash the stock recovery?
I'm still on the stock rom

It's because we rooted, but uninstalling it won't reset it because of the ticker, anything installed after the factory condition will show it as custom.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
There is no official stock (yet) so your stuck like that
But if your rooted in the first place why does it matter you can install any firmware/software updates yourself
Official stock is out. Check the general forum.

Will the app "[root] Triangle Away" will solve this problem?

How to OTA when rooted?

My s4 is rooted and I want to update to 4.3 when it comes out in a few weeks. I'm only rooted with no custom rom. I only rooted for ad block..so how will this work? Will I have to unroot before OTA?
Usually root only is fine but I wouldn't be so quick to update to 4.3 if it does come out.
???
Really why not? How come it says my phone has been modified..
You cant ota rooted, but honestly you don't want to ota 4.3 unless you want to be stuck with it for a while. Knox is included and it makes things a bit complicated. Just wait for someone to make a Knox free 4.3 rom probably come out the same day as the ota

Is it safe for me to flash a recovery?

I just now decided to get root after having this phone for a month the only method I found for rooting was the towelroot.com app well I saw some ppl who have done this mention something about tripping something idk I've never heard of such a thing is it something serious? Could I just flash a recovery and start flashing roms? The whole reason why I rooted this phone thanks in advance

What is your end goal?
If you just wanted root, you have it. If you're wanting to flash a different ROM, then you'll need to first flash a custom recovery.
In regards to tripping KNOX, it voids your warranty. Gaining root doesn't trip KNOX, flashing a recovery will.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using XDA Free mobile app
Tripping Knox doesn't necessarily void your warranty but it may.. You can flash a custom recovery with flashify but your counter will be tripped, and you didn't need to disable anything Knox
Thanks ya'll

You can freeze all the KNOX stuffs with TB if you have problems with any annoying KNOX notifications. Most customs ROM devs take them out tho.

There is a difference between the Knox security apps that can be frozen in TB and the Knox flag which shows up with the bootloaders newer than 4.2.2 MDL

Can I receive official T-Mobile Lollipop update if I root my phone?

I'm talking if I just root it, and leave as is. No custom roms, kernels, or anything like that. Would I still be able to update to the official Lollipop through my phone in settings > about device > software update???

And another question. Will adaway work with 4.4.4? I remember when I rooted my note 2, it had 4.4.3 or something like that, and adaway didn't work. Looked up why, and people were saying because of jellybean.
Pretty much the only reason why I wanna root again is for ad blocking, cpu sleeper, and get rid of a bunch of bloatware.

not through the settings but you could just download the firmware package from samfirmware.com and then flash it with Odin. It will give you the full update just as the method you mentioned in your post

Htc One M8 How to stop update?

I don't want to upgrade to lollipop and I've frozen the updater app, but I still get these terrible popups that ask me to update. I've rooted, s-offed, installed twrp, and completely modded the system, so there's no way the update would work anyway. If anyone has a way to get rid of these popups, please help.

Yes. Flash a custom ROM. There are several that are very near stock (I recommend MaximusHD). Being on the stock ROM is what is prompting you to update via OTA.

I would love to try a custom rom but the htc One M8 I'm asking about is my dad's and he was reluctant to even let me do what I've done so far. I need a stock solution. Would doing the update and letting it fail keep the pop-up out of my hair for a while? Is there an activity I can freeze in some system app from Rom Toolbox or something?

No. It won't.
Tell your Dad not to worry.
Since you are still running the stock ROM, go to settings > about > more, and post what it says next to build number.
The build number for me wasn't exactly where you said but that's ok. On a side note it really sucks that you can't copy things like build number right from the settings.

Sorry fat thumb.
I've frozen all the apps mentioned but after a reboot the problem persists. If I flashed a stock rom would it go away?
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Free mobile app
Try use a root explorer to rename those two apks to .bak then reboot.
CheckinProvider.apk --> CheckinProvider.bak
updater.apk --> updater.bak
That's how I do it.
Sorry I wasn't specific, but what I meant by freeze was that I renamed them to .app. This didn't fix anything though.

Then the software updates tab is gone, right ?
Also try change this in build.prop
ro.config.htc.enableCOTA=1
to
ro.config.htc.enableCOTA=0
Other than this, no more idea.
I'm very confused. What update tab exactly are you referring to, and I don't even have that line in my build.prop according to Rom Toolbox.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Free mobile app
I mean when you go to settings - about - you don't see software updates on top after you froze those apks.
I'm outside and replying you on mobile. Can't attach a screenshot.
Can you attach here your build.prop then I'll check it later when I'm home
(in next two hours)
I don't see anything about an update in About but I don't remember seeing one earlier either. Either way an update button is not what is annoying. The pop-up is my only concern. My dad won't update android manually and it would fail anyway but a phone that bullies it's user ever few minutes to update is unbearable. Is there an easy way to upload a file here from my phone without linking to a Google Drive file?
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Free mobile app
You don't see that because you already froze the apks.
I never attach anything from phone, only from PC. Just zip the build.prop and attach here, no need dropbox or gdrive.
