I'm having a problem, I started using the stock Messenger. It keeps coming up with 44 New Messages and 3 Unsent Messages. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I was reading something about a BadgeProvider in "Apps" but I can't seem to find it.
Please HELP!

Hi!
I'm experiencing some problems with the linking of contact information. Since I've installed Whatsapp, a notification pops up that I can link my Whatsapp contact phone numbers to my normal contacts list (which is weird because whatsapp retrieves its information from that very list).
Anyway, when I checked them all so that they would link, the notification showed up again a few minutes later.
I tried unchecking the Sync Concacts box in the Whatsapp field (Settings -> Accounts & Sync), I tried pressing 'Dismiss all' in the Link contacts screen but nothing helps.
Can anyone help me with this? Would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!
Same problem here. The contacts suggestions popup keeps coming back. Tried to "dismiss all" and tried to accept all suggested links. Problem occured after the latetst update.

Halfwit updated whatspp is really annoying.
Tried googling around and wasn't successful; maybe I just used the wrong tags..anyways
I've noticed this issue quiet a while back and never thought of it; but recently it seems to of been getting worse..no Idea why because I haven't changed my setup
But; what happens is if I send a text message then open up another app; I.e browser, irc, ect, ect.. then press the back button when I go to open up my messaging app again to reply or send out another text it'll open up the previous app I just backed out of.
This is seriously annoying because I can't get to my text messaging threads at all and have yet to find a work around to fix this except rebooting.
I've tried clearing cache and that hasn't seemed to work. If anyone has any other ideas i'll be glad to test and report back.
Nothing? Nice help guys

Hey guys. Is anyone else having problems with their text messages being deleted on the note 4? It's random for me but my text messages delete after reading them. I have a completely stock note 4 and it's really annoying. I've deleted cache to no avail. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Open your text message app, click on the three buttons on the top right, choose settings, and make sure the DELETE OLD MESSAGES is UNCHECKED.

I did that and it didn't help. This phone is deleting texts before I can read them.
Hey there, found this.

Check your settings under messaging. The stock setting for messages is 200. you can up it to hold it more or not have it delete them until you do it manually

In relation to the Note 4...
Messaging -> Settings -> Delete old messages
There are 2 settings in there (technically 3 if you count the ability to toggle on and off). Check your limits, or just disable it - see if that fixes it for you.

hey there, i am having the same trouble, it not the settings, with message limits that auto delete the old messages, its something else??
maybe a bug??
yes, sometimes even before i can read them, i can see they were sent in the logs, but not the message
let me know if you have any solution..
please this is driving me crazy...
lol
thanks
JJ
I have the same problem. I have already turned off the auto delete setting. Has anyone found a solution to this?
I will try a few things tonight, and report my findings.
App
Try a different texting app, try looking at the messages through the Google Messenger app. If it shows them there then its the stock app issue, if its still disappearing then I recommend just trying a stock reset if none of the other options worked listed above.
I have a strange bug: PM got stuck in the Inbox, I can't mark it read or delete And every time I've navigate to new forum, I'm getting an annoying popup about "new message".
Could you please fix it? Thanks!
P.S. I'm using latest Chrome but same results in FF too.
Try logging out and back in. If that doesn't help, try deleting your browser cookie for XDA.
When you say you can't mark it read or delete it, why not? Do you mean there are no unread messages in your inbox? If not, hopefully the above suggestions will fix it.
Turns out a few others we experiencing this when we were having the server issues a day or two ago. Hopefully it's resolved itself now. But if not, it will soon.
On the official 9.0 stock release, and over the past few days I've started having issues with Android Messages randomly coming up with force close messages. It also will randomly not send messages and give me the "retry" error, and not download other MMS messages until I go in and hit the download button.
I haven't flashed anything new or changed any APN settings. I also have tried clearing Data & Cache for Android Messages and that didn't fix it either.
Anyone else having issues, or have any ideas on how to fix this?

I would try doing a data factory reset. Hopefully that fixes your issue...
Did you do an OTA update to Pie by chance from Oreo?
I have been having the same issue. It will "freeze" up and the messages sent out are delayed. Everything seems to work still but the app lags up and gives me the Force Close message.

I have also been seeing these messages. The most common and annoying for me is that messages don't send right away at times. And almost seems like you have to wait inside Messages until the text is fully sent before leaving or you aren't guaranteed it will go thru. Most concerning is that you won't really be notified that a text didn't go thru until you go back to that particular thread in Messages. I have also experienced the App Not Responding - Wait, Force Close, etc...which I honestly had never seen before in Messages until the PIE update (I did a Full Factory Flash while saving data). The text messages not being sent has bitten me twice on time sensitive messages I was trying to send and which I assumed went through.
I have been having this issue for months, pre-Pie. Upon downloading Pie (OTA) and the Messages issue not being fixed, I tried Textra. I stopped getting the error in Messages, but Textra then worked its way up to 17GB of hard drive storage and was consistently the largest battery hog on my phone (shouldn't be more than 3-4GB based on what it required before installing Textra) so Textra had to go. I would love to know if anyone figures out how to get Messages working normally again.
I also am having all of these problems with Android Pie on my Pixel XL on Verizon. Seems like whenever I exit out of the messages app when I send a message, it ends up not sending. Could that be because of the new battery optimization feature where more apps are being "shut off" in the background more than they used to? And has anyone had luck fixing this issue by doing a factory reset?

Why not just use a different messaging app? I use Pulse, have been for a year now. It stores not only your SMS but MMS automatically, and like Google's messaging app has an extension to work with your browser on your PC.
Problem still exists
Exact same issue here. I was wondering if it was the operating system or Verizon.
