Hey guys. Is anyone else having problems with their text messages being deleted on the note 4? It's random for me but my text messages delete after reading them. I have a completely stock note 4 and it's really annoying. I've deleted cache to no avail. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Open your text message app, click on the three buttons on the top right, choose settings, and make sure the DELETE OLD MESSAGES is UNCHECKED.

I did that and it didn't help. This phone is deleting texts before I can read them.
Hey there, found this.

Check your settings under messaging. The stock setting for messages is 200. you can up it to hold it more or not have it delete them until you do it manually

In relation to the Note 4...
Messaging -> Settings -> Delete old messages
There are 2 settings in there (technically 3 if you count the ability to toggle on and off). Check your limits, or just disable it - see if that fixes it for you.

hey there, i am having the same trouble, it not the settings, with message limits that auto delete the old messages, its something else??
maybe a bug??
yes, sometimes even before i can read them, i can see they were sent in the logs, but not the message
let me know if you have any solution..
please this is driving me crazy...
lol
thanks
JJ
I have the same problem. I have already turned off the auto delete setting. Has anyone found a solution to this?
I will try a few things tonight, and report my findings.
App
Try a different texting app, try looking at the messages through the Google Messenger app. If it shows them there then its the stock app issue, if its still disappearing then I recommend just trying a stock reset if none of the other options worked listed above.

Hi all, XDA has been such a great help in improving my enjoyment with my phone!
Here is my question - using TouchFlo, if I select Messages, then click on All Messages, then change the folder to Deleted Items, I have a ton of old deleted text messages I would like to clear out. I can't seem to find a way to do it other than 1 at a time, which would take forever. Are there any other more expedient ways to clear this folder out? Even just a "Delete all" would be fine, I don't really want anything in there.
Also, is there a way for it to clear this folder upon exit or something?
I am wondering if I need a hack to enable some feature to delete these messages, as I don't see it. Otherwise the deleted messages just pile up forever!
Thanks for the help!
You can delete them by going to Menu>Tools>Empty DeletedItems (in the Windows Mobile messaging program).

Go to all messages then go to menu\tools\options\ then go to the storage tab then in the deleted items drop down menu select immediately. This will delete them for good when you delete them from the inbox.
Im getting 2 diffrent notifications for 1 text message ! i have tried disabling notifications in my default message app and still another one comes up and it says 1 unread text message then when i view it it still on the notification bar but now says no unread messages... anyone know whats going on? i really hate getting 2 tones for 1 message!! pleasse help!
Sounds like you are using a 2nd text application like Handcent.
Both applications will indicate a new message, Android and Handcent (or whatever). You have to open up the Android application and disable notifications.
Are you rooted, if so, I recommend using Titanium backup and freezing the stock messaging app. I think the free one will freeze/thaw apps , but if you are rooted the paid version is a must have in my opinion
You have to go into the stock messaging app and hit menu > settings > and uncheck the notifications.
i did all that i figured it out it was the stupid beautiful widget pack2!! grrrr!! but thanks for your guyses help!

kinda like my wife telling me to do something, once is never enough making her very annoying...lol
Friend just got a new Samsung, and we installed Handsent... She was getting 3 notifications for each sms... Took 30 minutes to get it worked out.
Glad to hear you got it fixed.
I have been having this problem for quite some time now, the problem is that when I try to text a few of my friends, the text entry box is already filled in with thee text from a text message I was going to send but never did. This is very annoying and I NEED it to stop, anyone else have this problem? If my description isn't clear I'll try to illustrate it more clearly.
Say I go to send a text to my buddy, J. I start typing in the entry box "blah blah blah. blahhhblahhblahh." However, i do not send the text, instead I hit the back button (probably had to check something before i finished the text, and never ended up sending it to him.) Now every time I goto text J, the text entry box is always already filled in with "blah blah blah. blahhhblahhblahh." I have to delete the text and then start typing what i wanted to. I've tried just sending the "blah blah blah. blahhhblahhblahh." when it is auto filled in, however, it keeps reappearing. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
You have to backspace delete the entire unsent message contents before backing out of the unsent message or it will show up each time until you do.

well I backpace out of it now and then back out but the "blah blah blah. blahhhblahhblahh." still comes up. Any ideas on how to fix that?

I had this exact problem when I first got my incredible2. Your phone has saved that text message you backed out of as a draft. Try hitting the menu key on your phone when visiting your messages. There should be a tab to hit caked " drafts". Hit that and you should be able to delete them. It's been awhile but that's what your issue is. Maybe someone else could chime in with things exact steps

Just did what you said, had a bunch of drafts of the undesired text. Deleted them all, problem still exists...any other suggestions?

had the same problem and was SUPER annoyed. I think its just a dumb bug in the default Messaging app. I switched to GO SMS Pro (free in the market) and haven't looked back. Way better than the default, in my opinion
I've been using TextSecure for some time now and haven't seen this problem. Keeps your messages encrypted as well so you can keep snoopers out.

Try restarting your phone after you do that. It seems to help, at least sometimes. Last time I had that problem it did.

Im with pioneer. Go sms is way better for texting and other messaging. I would still want to find the problem though

i had the same issue. I deleted all drafts, then restarted. But I've since moved on to Go SMS.
.
all you have to do is clear cache of "messaging" app in android management and close the app and restart it. It will be fixed
Such a pain in the ass...
I hate the way HTC implemented this.
so i use handcent program as opposed to the default one and while using it all of a sudden all my texts from the beginning of time are gone! the program didn't quit or anything, i just went back to the main menu and everything was gone.
is there a way to restore this at all?
thank you.

nope
i read somewhere a while back that handcent actually stores all your incoming and outgoing sms regardless of whether you delete them, in a database file. i tried searching for it but couldn't find anything on that.

That's a shame, I had the same thing happen to me a while ago. I was so distraught that start using SMS Backup to store all my text msgs. It's sorta cool is when I switch phones or anything, it would automatically download into my newest phone and you can search through your msgs on gmail.
I would try restarting the phone if you haven't already (stupid suggestion I know) and see maybe it was just a glitch. Hopefully someone on here will be able to help!

If I recall, you Swipe the other direction to delete instead of archive. I switched to Google messages shortly after so forgive me if I'm wrong
Strangely i got both Google message and the Samsung message installed n'arrivent, with both being system apps.
But it was Google message to be in the home screen and set as the SMS app by default.
