Hello,
I am frustrated from 4.3 update UVUEMJC. I have the earlier update, as much as i understand root666 removed KNOX from this version, i wasnt able to find any information about this specific version downgrade to 4.1.2
It has certainly caused more problems than benefit...battery drain, sudden restarts, laggy camera...slow and laggy phone and i want to downgrade.
Is it possible to downgrade without a brick for this version?
It seems clearer every day, new versions are ment to make older phones slow and laggy so the owner will replace to a newer one, it seemed that only Apple was doing it but i came to understand that it is an industry policy and not one companies idea.
Any help appreciated.
Regards.
Sorry to say this but you misunderstood, root66 does not remove Knox. All those symptoms you stated sound like it's user problem more then anything to be honest. Try searching and see if you can come up with a solution.. Now if you really must downgrade the only way you can do so at this point is by flashing a 4.1.2 ROM. There is no way to downgrade firmware

Hi, I am sure there are countless threads out there already talking about the inconveniences that 4.3 bring and the problem you get for trying to downgrade. I have read through many of them and I think I have the general idea of how to downgrade relatively safely without running into the problems I am currently aware of. I want to confirm what I know. I would like to be informed before I do anything, especially something as dangerous as a downgrade attempt.
So all that I am aware of right now is that 4.3 brings in a new bootloader, attempts on trying to change the bootloader will result in hard brick, so does that mean any previous firmware that does not flash a bootloader will be fine? will stock firmware from sammobile work? I am looking at this one right now,
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=16006
Second problem is 4.3 also changes the efs format, any modem before I think MG4 won't be able to read it, and you won't get network, this should be easily fixed by flashing the latest modem here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898
...right? also the modems are made custom recovery flashable, if I want to use odin instead, do I just unzip and put the modem.bin into odin?
Also plans to root first and backup efs, I hear you have to go through hell to get it back if you lose it...
Doing any of those should trigger the knox counter...so basically anyone that still have warranty left and plan to use it cannot do anything...even rooting...right?
But that should be the least of your worries if you are determined to downgrade...
I am not sure if that is all the trouble I will run into, I don't know what made samsung so confident that they can even say it is impossible to downgrade, they meant to say difficult but you can do it, right?
also I am on SGH i747m bell.
Hello all, I recently bought a SGN2 from a freind. He never rooted so I thought the phone was up to date firmware wise because it is running 4.1.2. Now recently I have been trying to decide about taking or not taking the OTA (4.3) before root. I have been doing a lot of reading and it seems everyone is coming from I317UCAMA4-- 4.1.2. i am on I317UCAMH3 Huh? And Kies says no support, so do I need to get to MA4 or does it not matter? This post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589891 seems to be the way to go, as I do not want to be locked in to the no backwards thing ,but he is starting at MA4 also. I came from a SGN1 so I never had to think about bootloader before, so any input would be appreciated. Thanks.................

You are on the update that will get you to the 4.3 update from the Settings, About Device, Software Update. If you do the OTA update you will not be able downgrade the bootloader. Which I don't think has been an issue for anyone.
Once you do something "out of the norm" to your phone the Knox security within the 4.3 OS will trip and void your warranty. Like rooting it.
Since you bought your phone from a friend, you probably don't care about that. Most warranty claims that actually get honored are hardware failures, (broken screens due to drops without insurance, not covered, water damage either) phone gets hosed due to OTA over the air update, etc.
If you follow the path on that link you'll be fine.
My note 2 has always been stable on 4.1.1 stock and I debloated it myself. So when ever an update came out rather than risking my stable phone I would just flash the new baseband from it and keep 4.1.1, until tesh stopped updating his thread. Recently my screen cracked so I used my insurance for the first time. The new phone came with 4.3 and the knox bootloader plus the CMK7 baseband. I did a cwm backup on my cracked screen phone. Used odin to flash cwm onto the new phone, which did cause knox to show I did but who really cares since the phone is so far out of warranty anyway. Then loaded my cwm backup onto the new phone. What I ended up with is my nice stable phone with everything working plus the new baseband CMK7 stayed but the bootloader is still the new knox one. Everything is working just fine, so whats the big thing with everyone saying you cant go back from 4.3? I went from 4.3 to 4.1.1 just fine via cwm.
Cool story bro

How many of your posts are worthless? All of them? You sir are whats wrong with xda. The fact that every one thinks you cant go backwards from 4.3 just got proven wrong as long as you do it with cwm and not odin apparently.
There are multiple threads regarding your cool story.
The issue people are having is not being able to downgrade to 4.1.x OS. Its the bootloader that people were discussing and when coming from a 4.3 bootloader is impossible to downgrade to the 4.1.x bootloader/s.
Maybe doing a search in the future will get you some answers about the whole 4.3 bootloader and downgrading that you're taking about.
Good luck to you..
Ok but like I said I have the 4.3 bootloader and a 4.1 rom with no issues using cwm. So there is no issue with having a 4.1.1 rom and the 4.3 bootloader. If you have nothing constructive to add then dont post anything.
I mostly Lurk on XDA, But you sir are a different kind of stupid.
Clearly you haven't played with 4.1 long enough to see what the issues are, Its been well known that you can return to a older rom.
but knox has issues by doing so.

Lol long enough? How about since release day when I bought it? My phone is stable as can be with no force closes completely self deblaoted, working wifi tether, bunch of xposed modules and everything is pefect. For the most part the OS that a phone releases with is typically the most stable, there are obviously exceptions but I have been doing this since the G1 days and as soon as you start getting flash happy is when you have issues. Only thing I update is the baseband/modem. Also dont name call over the Internet its childish but then again most people on here are typically teenagers. Could you elaborate on the issues knox should be causing me but isn't?
This topic has been mentioned many times, there's no room for the useless bickering going on in here.

Factory Reset and start from scratch.

A factory reset initializes the data partition to the default settings but will not back off an upgrade to a previous release. Nor will Kies allow a downgrade of the 4.4.2 ROM, and even if you use Odin to flash and older firmware release, that won't downgrade the 4.4.2 KitKat bootloader.
The best you can do is use Odin to flash the firmware from sammobile.com for an earlier release and live with the 4.4.2 bootloader but that may cause some conflicts with the components of the earlier release. For example, some users have had problems with automatic rebooting or charging issues when the bootloader release doesn't match the rest of the ROM.
Your best bet is really to just stay on 4.4.2 once you've upgraded.

His issue needs to be addressed, wouldn't'a factory reset fix his upgrade issues???
Seems like it is the only way to live with what he has without making things worse.

A factory reset done from the settings menu only resets the data partition, which includes the system settings, user apps and data, and internal SD card, but doesn't change the underlying Android release at all. I agree that it's worth doing a factory reset to complete/cleanup his upgrade to 4.4.2 if he hasn't done that already, since there are some release dependencies for the settings that are cleared by a factory reset, but it won't downgrade him to his previous Android release as he requested in the OP of this thread.
As I mentioned previously, his best bet is to live with the 4.4.2 configuration since there is currently no way to downgrade the bootloader once it has been upgraded to KitKat, and a hybrid installation of a 4.4.2 bootloader with a kernel and system partition from another Android release can result in a variety of problems.

Hello!
I have a friend who is fed up with Lollipop, downgraded to KitKat and is still having issues, so now he wants to downgrade the Note 3 back to Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean), but the ODIN process keeps failing. I've read around that downgrading the bootloader (to a version prior to the KitKat update) would bypass the "Must be a KitKat ROM" check and allow his device to be downgraded to the older firmware, so my question for you guys is could you please provide me (or at the very least) point me in the right direction so I can successfully complete this for him? If it's absolutely NOT possible, please let me know, but based on my reading around on XDA, I'm pretty sure it's possible once you downgrade the bootloader to one which doesn't include those checks.
Thanks.
You cannot load a 4.3 bootloader over a KK or LP bootloader.
Your only option is to flash a custom ROM based on JB, but at this point in time I highly doubt that any links to JB are still functional. As stated above, you cannot load a 4.3 bootloader once you've updated to LL.
What are the so fed up with on 5.0? Mine has been a dream especially with all the recent little updates. Buttery smooth, and no issues at all. Maybe a full factory reset, or even a factory reset, and ODIN flash of it again? Sorry to hear about the problems.
