[Q] (Q) i317ucamh3 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hello all, I recently bought a SGN2 from a freind. He never rooted so I thought the phone was up to date firmware wise because it is running 4.1.2. Now recently I have been trying to decide about taking or not taking the OTA (4.3) before root. I have been doing a lot of reading and it seems everyone is coming from I317UCAMA4-- 4.1.2. i am on I317UCAMH3 Huh? And Kies says no support, so do I need to get to MA4 or does it not matter? This post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589891 seems to be the way to go, as I do not want to be locked in to the no backwards thing ,but he is starting at MA4 also. I came from a SGN1 so I never had to think about bootloader before, so any input would be appreciated. Thanks.................

You are on the update that will get you to the 4.3 update from the Settings, About Device, Software Update. If you do the OTA update you will not be able downgrade the bootloader. Which I don't think has been an issue for anyone.
Once you do something "out of the norm" to your phone the Knox security within the 4.3 OS will trip and void your warranty. Like rooting it.
Since you bought your phone from a friend, you probably don't care about that. Most warranty claims that actually get honored are hardware failures, (broken screens due to drops without insurance, not covered, water damage either) phone gets hosed due to OTA over the air update, etc.
If you follow the path on that link you'll be fine.

That is odd, Telus has it too and Koodo is just Telus' subbrand. 4.4 Kitkat is supposed to be just around the corner and yet they pushed this 4.3 update (according to Sammobiles firmware page) seems like a waste if 4.4 is only weeks or a month away to be pushing any 4.3 updates.
Wonder if this is a bug fix until KitKat is out, as 4.3 is aweful and full of issues on the Canadian S3 atm.
I'm downloading the full firmware now to take a look but its a slow download, got an hour to wait >_<

38MB?
I have been on custom ROMs since 4.3 came out. Just odined
back to stock 4.3 today to be ready for 4.4 and suddenly its updating. I thought it was 4.4 till I notice it downloaded in less than two minutes.
And it auto updated with the Knox warranty bit tripped.

I opened up the ROM and took a look around and it seems to be only a bug fix/Updated build of 4.3 is all, but it is only for Telus, Koodo & PC mobile, since Telus acquired it not too long ago.
The acquisition might be the reasons why this 4.3 update got pushed to begin with to accommodate as it was Telus simply needed to have a 4.3 piece of software made for that propose.
I haven't tested the rom since it does not contain the CSC for Bell or Rogers and I only have access to my mothers S3 (something I wish not to mess up since its a Bell S3)
It's possible that the other carriers might have this out too but I don't see any reason for it since KitKat supposedly is to be released this month for all Canadian S3's.
A read out of the the additional CSC included in this is in fact SPC (PC Mobile):

Yes, the main reasons to this update is just a addition for PC mobile that Telus acquired, but also probably the new roaming agreement between Telus and Verizon too most likely:
http://www.sammobile.com/2014/05/05...ting-minor-update-that-adds-roaming-on-telus/
At any rate, don't worry about this small patch. KitKat should be here within this month. (I hope they don't delay it anymore)
can anyone put update I747MVLUEND2 for telus because i have rooted phone and l have loosed my OTA ,,?? thanks !!!
Guys, I have a question:
I got a Koodo GS3, updated tp 4.3 I747MVLUEND2. I tried to root this thing with CF Auto Root, as it was mentioned online. No good, couldn't root, and when I looked into the download mode, it shows custom binary and custom system status.
Is that safe to flash back to I747MVLUEMK5 cause I saw the post has the rom for this firmware with/without KNOX. If yes, can I flash the one without KNOX? (My phone got KNOX trip and now it shows warranty bit:1)

Since the Knox warranty bit is now 1, that means the warranty has been manufacturer's has been voided. Not a big deal if the warranty on your phone is over.
Now that your phone has the 4.3 bootloader, you cannot flash any ROM via Odin, TWRP, or CWM that attempts to downgrade the bootloader. Attempts to downgrade could brick your phone.
You may be able to flash back to mk5 using Mobile Odin.

Thank you for the advice. Wonder if I could use the Telus rooted rom with KNOX removed, which is I747MVLUEMK5 I found in the forum for my Koodo GS3.
did it work? I am in the same boat. Roms don't recognize this crazy bootloader and a lot won't install on it.

As I understand it, that is a 4.4.x loader while the telus loader we have is for 4.3. Does that mean that it won't brick the phone to update because it is to a higher version? Since the bootloaders actually came out around the same time I am not sure what constitutes an upgrade/downgrade. Sigh, why did they make this so troublesome!? I actually tried flashing I747MVLUEMK5 from recovery but it won't allow it because the downgrade safeguard doesn't recognize this firmware. I am tempted to find an odin file and flash via that but the warning scared me and I'm not sure if it will brick. Could someone chime in on if this is safe and if it is, where to find the odin files? Is it possible to flash a recovery zip via odin? I don't think so.

I went from 4.3 to 4.1.1 with no issues.

My note 2 has always been stable on 4.1.1 stock and I debloated it myself. So when ever an update came out rather than risking my stable phone I would just flash the new baseband from it and keep 4.1.1, until tesh stopped updating his thread. Recently my screen cracked so I used my insurance for the first time. The new phone came with 4.3 and the knox bootloader plus the CMK7 baseband. I did a cwm backup on my cracked screen phone. Used odin to flash cwm onto the new phone, which did cause knox to show I did but who really cares since the phone is so far out of warranty anyway. Then loaded my cwm backup onto the new phone. What I ended up with is my nice stable phone with everything working plus the new baseband CMK7 stayed but the bootloader is still the new knox one. Everything is working just fine, so whats the big thing with everyone saying you cant go back from 4.3? I went from 4.3 to 4.1.1 just fine via cwm.
Cool story bro

How many of your posts are worthless? All of them? You sir are whats wrong with xda. The fact that every one thinks you cant go backwards from 4.3 just got proven wrong as long as you do it with cwm and not odin apparently.
There are multiple threads regarding your cool story.
The issue people are having is not being able to downgrade to 4.1.x OS. Its the bootloader that people were discussing and when coming from a 4.3 bootloader is impossible to downgrade to the 4.1.x bootloader/s.
Maybe doing a search in the future will get you some answers about the whole 4.3 bootloader and downgrading that you're taking about.
Good luck to you..
Ok but like I said I have the 4.3 bootloader and a 4.1 rom with no issues using cwm. So there is no issue with having a 4.1.1 rom and the 4.3 bootloader. If you have nothing constructive to add then dont post anything.
I mostly Lurk on XDA, But you sir are a different kind of stupid.
Clearly you haven't played with 4.1 long enough to see what the issues are, Its been well known that you can return to a older rom.
but knox has issues by doing so.

Lol long enough? How about since release day when I bought it? My phone is stable as can be with no force closes completely self deblaoted, working wifi tether, bunch of xposed modules and everything is pefect. For the most part the OS that a phone releases with is typically the most stable, there are obviously exceptions but I have been doing this since the G1 days and as soon as you start getting flash happy is when you have issues. Only thing I update is the baseband/modem. Also dont name call over the Internet its childish but then again most people on here are typically teenagers. Could you elaborate on the issues knox should be causing me but isn't?
This topic has been mentioned many times, there's no room for the useless bickering going on in here.

Need help updating (near) stock T999L to 4.3 for my father

About a year and a half ago, I gave my father my T999L after I upgraded the phone. Since then it appears a 4.3 update has been released and in order to use his Galaxy Gear watch that he wanted for his birthday, he needs to upgrade. He wants to stick with a stock (or stock based) ROM and I need to get it taken care of for him today. When I had the phone, I was running Dandroid. Because I rooted, installed custom recovery, etc. it reads as modified software and will not receive the OTA even though I flashed returned it to stock before I gave it to him.
Any help would be great - apparently the 4.1.2 bootloader won't work with the 4.3 ROMs? Anyone have a link to something I can just use ODIN to flash and get it all done in one step? I assume the link here can do it? Hopefully...

Unable to update S3 past 4.1.1

Hi. A few months ago I received a phone for my daughter from my mom. I reset the phone back to factory settings and it's working fine. I had to reset it back to factory again after locking myself out recently but other than that there hasn't been any issues until now. I picked up an activity tracker for my daughter recently and it wasn't connecting to the phone like it should even though it was listed as a compatible device.
Turns out the phone is at Android 4.1.1 and when I try to update it OTA it says there are no updates to download. So I tried updating through Kies and it isn't connecting the phone. At this time I started to do some more research.
The knox counter is at 2 and the device status is modified, which I have never rooted the phone and my mother can't even set up her wifi printer and most certainly can't root a phone. I installed triangle away but the phone needs to be rooted in order to do it's magic.
Do I need to root the phone in order to get the knox counter back to 0? Will this put the phone back where I can get android updates for it? I don't know where to start.
Boot into download mode. Do you see anything about warranty bit? If you do, the updates are working because it sounds like the phone has a stock 4.1.1 rom on a 4.3 or newer bootloader.

If you would to reset the knox counter to 0x0... yes, you have firstly to root your phone, then install triangle away.

Knox cannot be reset to 0x0 once it has been changed to 0x1.
Since the word "modified" appears in download mode, this leads me to conclude that the phone may be rooted and cannot receive ota updates.
It is strange that the phone is running 4.1.1 with Knox as Knox was not introduced until 4.3.
Before flashing anything, you need to confirm the phone's current bootloader and modem.

How do I confirm the bootloader and modem? I literally am learning all the language and how all of this works as I go. All I know is I have a phone that is running 4.1.1 and won't update and when I went to the download odis (I think that's what it is called) said it was tripped 2 times where I was supposed to read the knox number.
I ran to the mobile store it's connected to and they said the T Mobile Galaxy S3 phone that I-Wireless puts out was never given an update past 4.1.1 Not sure how true that is. If that's the case, I probably need to root the phone anyway to force an update (Is that what I would need to do to get it at least to 4.3?
there is an app in the playstore called samsung info. download it and it should tell you bootloader and modem.
pretty sure it is true that 4.1.1 was the last.
heres the link to the xda thread , which of course will lead you to the playstore ; but will tell more detail about the app :

I've never flashed something. Sorry if I ask a hundred questions as I go through this.
So you want me to flash the 4.1.1 that's already on the phone? Is that correct? Can I ask why? (I'm just wanting to know the meaning behind the action so understand what your thought process is so I can understand for next time.)
Just follow the directions underneath?

if i'm guessing right about what @audit13 & @ arthur (lol) are asking you to do is flash that firmware since the samsung info app said "firmware not found".
you might be confusing firmware version with android version. you say your on 4.1.1 which is the android version.
also if i'm not mistaken that firmware will match your bootloader which is a good thing.

Installing the Official 6.0.1 update via Samsung Kies or Odin or different method.

Hey everyone.
I'm running on completely Stock 5.1.1 OK1 on my Note 4 and just recieved the official MM OTA update last night. Due to my phone having a lot of junk and being laggy I decided to flash the official firmware from any external method to have a clean install of the os. I heard about Samsung Kies which makes a back up of your phone and installs the latest os, I installed and backed up my phone last night but it didn't seem to give me an update on the os, it said "This is the latest version" (5.1.1 COK1).
My main concern about this is. I've bought this phone from Pakistan (used phone but in brand new condition) and I'm currently living in Malaysia and I have no idea who was the previous owner of this phone. In Kies it shows the phone number different than what I have (maybe its the Sprint phone number?).
What if my carrier is locked by having a clean install? Or any sort of other related issue occurs.
Please take some time to enlighten the facts from your knowledge, will highly appreciate it.
Regards.

Yeah but you totally missed my question here.
Its not that I don't want to do some research myself, I'm a student and I'm busy most of the time. So if anyone can take out their precious time to answer my question I'd really appreciate the help.
If you're concerned about your phone or sim getting lock..you can just use galaxy tools apk v3.1.5 & then upgrade the apk to v3.1.8 & it will unlocked it for you... but i doubt it will lock you down... maybe you can just try to back your rom completely & restore if any issues encounter
it's dependent on the way that they unlocked the phone, someone in vietnam has been locked after updated the phone, but my phone was not.

And I have no idea how my phone was unlocked, I just bought it like this. I can see the Sprint phone number on Samsung Kies maybe I should write an email to Sprint asking them to unlock it using that Sprint phone number?
