[Q] Random ads began to appear? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Today i noticed that whenever I open my phone google chrome opens up with a webpage and i get full screen ads every now and then. The weird part is that I did not install any new apps or update anything. I have tried all types of ad detectors and malware programs and nothing is being found but the problem persists. Anything I can do except doing a full wipe? Not sure what else to do as I don't have many apps installed, trying to install and reinstall one by one to see if any of them were it with no results.

Perhaps go in under settings - applications, select clear data and wipe cache for the browser. I had something weird with dolphin, something was grabbing and redirecting, though adaway blocked the bad urls. A delete and reload of the browser app, including data cache for it, cleared the problem.

I use dolphin only and this is popping up in chrome. I have just tried doing both to your recommendations and its still the same, any other ideas?

Try xposed module minminguard
2SHAYNEZ

Not working as well.

Malware or overreacting?

Last night I downloaded an app from the market: Anttek App Manager. I didn't really need it, I just came across it & it seemed like a good program that I could use to replace a couple of other apps.
I opened up the program & didn't do anything. I did grant it superuser permissions when it opened, but did nothing else except browse through & get a feel for the interface.
Suddenly I was having a force close party all over the screen. Market, maps, settings, homescreen, anything system was force closing. I tried opening settings to uninstall the app but it force closed immediately. Tried with Market, same result. I could get into user apps to uninstall but when it tried to uninstall through the system uninstaller it would force close. I finally uninstalled through Titanium Backup. I was still getting force closes so I rebooted. After the reboot I could open system apps again. I checked my apps in settings & the app was gone from he downloaded tab but remained under the all tab. I uninstalled again. I checked through root explorer & it wasn't there, but in protected apps there was a downloadfile.apk that was timestamped with when I rebooted. I emailed it to myself to check out later if needed & deleted the file.
What do you guys think? Was it just something buggy that I'm blowing out of proportion or is it something to worry about?
Edit: I'm running cyanogenmod 6.1.2 if it matters.
I honestly dont know if it was something malicious or not. I had an issue when I downloaded an app (Don't remember what it was) and it downloaded 300+ downloadfile.apk. As you probably guessed it filled up my sd card. In my case I found it prudent to do a complete wipe and reflash my ROM. I set everything back up and havent had any more issues.
I would probably wipe and start over or Nandroid back to before you downloaded the app. Just my opinion...
Yeah, I think I'm just going to restore from a backup. I just don't want to have to reflash my theme & font, but it doesn't take that long, I'm just lazy.
I was wondering if there's anyway a virus could go deeper than what is changed by wiping/flashing/restoring? I'm somewhat technologically literate but when it comes to the deep down stuff I'm lost.

[Q] Unable to install Apps from market

I am unable to install apps from the market. I can access the market and select the apps but all I get is starting downloads which doesn't change even if I leave for hours. I have WI-FI enabled and can access the web with no problems. Here is what I have tried already.
Clear Data in Downloader,
Clear Data and Cache in market
Factory reset
Flashed to CyanogenMod 7
and I still cannot download any apps.
If you have s-off you could try deleting the market.apk file and then reinstalling from a non market source? If you search xda I'm sure I remember several threads about this.
I had this problem a few times. Have you recently changed your Gmail (If you use Gmail) address from @googlemail to @gmail? This is what caused the problem for me and many others...

I never did work out what was causing the problem. I installed CyanogenMod 7 and all is work again.
Yea, sometimes just a reflash fixes the problem. I also found that, sometimes, the download would just finish but never actually install - almost as if the .apk downloaded but the Market Process just never actioned the new .apk to open, so it just sat in /cache until the next reboot, doing nothing.
log in to google talk...i think that should solve the issue.

[Q] Re-enabling RSS Apps

I backed up all my apps in Titanium and CWM before migrating from EG22 to EH06. The new version works fine after restoring apps and data using Titanium. The problem is that now both of my RSS readers (D7 Reader and gReader) get stuck trying to sign into my Google Reader account. The odd part is that the widgets seem to update the unread count, but I can't actually read them because the apps themselves won't move past the sign-in loops. I've tried deleting the data for the apps, and I've event tried uninstalling and reinstalling the apps, but the issue still persists. Internet browser applications work perfectly, so I know that it's not my internet connection. My only conclusion is that something else in the phone software (something that controls app access to the internet or to Google accounts) has the problem. As such, I should be able to go through Titanium and freeze/wipe anything that could cause the problem and proceed from there. However, I don't know where to start isolating the culprit.
Any ideas?

After you completely uninstall both apps go into /data/data and see if there are any leftover files for the apps if so delete them. And then reboot and reinstall and let me know what happens. I had it happen to me sometimes filesystem changes such as that retain their problematic nature until rebooted a few times.

Same sign-in loops as of early this morning. I'll try Odin'ing back to stock EH06, and trying again from there.
I've gone all the way back to Odin the stock EH06. I then flashed maddoggin's CleanBlue mod, and used Titanium to only restore any apps that weren't already loaded onto the phone. This should have stopped any system files from being overwritten. From there, I tried to open the D7 Reader. Same sign-in loop. I uninstalled the program, looked for any lingering data files (there were none), restarted the phone, then reinstalled the app. Still the same sign-in loop.
Am I missing something here? I've tried everything I can think of to isolate the problem, but there has to be something lingering that I'm missing.
Any other thoughts?
EDIT: Google Reader (the source) logs in fine, as does Pulse (3rd party reader). That means that it HAS to be something deep in Data concerning D7 and gReader that I'm unaware of.

Remove ads in browser

I have the same issue and it's getting on my nerves

Google sync error, app update and download failure

Hey guys,
After the latest update, I have been getting Google sync error, and then there's the play store error where I cannot download apps.
Sync and app downloads happen at their own time and have tried from clearing playstore services cache to resetting the phone to factory settings.
Hard reset works but the issue returns. Does anyone else have this issue? Please do comment
Update: Tapzo was the culprit app, deleted it and cleared the cache. Restarted the phone and everything works fine.
Check for high ad serving and invasive apps, delete them one by one, cleaning play store cache and restarting the phone each time. Once the app that's causing issues is deleted everything should work fine.
Huawei might fix this in an update if all of us effected complain.
With L09 -B432-C183 I have the problem synonymous. Despite new installation and factory reset
Deleted Tapzo and cleaned cache off of play store and play services. Everything seems to be working including google sync(manual) and app updates and downloads, but still under observation.
delete apps that have more ads and seek more access to your information ie., gallery, contacts etc.... delete one by one and each time clear cache and restart, some app will be causing the problem and once you find that app everything will be back to normal
This might help:
Go to settings - Advance settings - Backup and Reset- Network settings reset
Should resume downloads.
I had similar issue. Truecaller app was an issue. Uninstalling and rebooting helps but issue will be back as soon as I install Truecaller app.
Temporary solution after lots of logs sent to R&D team.
Go to Settings- battery - lock screen clean up.
Untick all apps (Close all option must be greyed out).
Switch on Airplane Mode for 15 seconds . Turn it off.
Turn on WiFi and downloads should resume automatically .
Have you tried clearing the Cache files in the internal Storage and rebooting your device?
Only if I had seen this earlier.
I have been having this for a long time. Lost a bunch of pictures after doing a hard resets.
Finally this heped. Thanks!
If you use Truecaller either uninstall it or give all permission and also secondary app launch, trust app etc.
Once you download anything from olay store if it gets stuck, just open Truecaller and play store will start downloading.
