need some help / recommendations - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys,
since 2 years i have a Galaxy s3 mini.
At the moment i´m on slimKAT 4.4.4 and TWRP 2.8.1.0.
In a few weeks i will get a new device from my provider. But i am not sure which one is the best.
I can choose from a range of 5 "minis"
- Galaxy s4 mini
- Galaxy s5 mini
- HTC one mini
- Xperia Z1 Compact
- Xperia Z3 Compact
Important for me is:
- custom ROMs available
- custom recoverys available
- good battery life
- good performance
- SD card slot for extSD
my favourite is the Xperia Z1 Compact (good ROMs on XDA, great battery life, SD card slot).
But what about routing, flashing, bootloader (i don´t know much of it cause my s3 mini haven´t one ) ...
Is it much more difficult to handle than a Samsung device (rooting, flashing, ...) or just simple?
Thx for your help and i hope you are telling me your experiences and recommendations.

I've never had a Sony device before either, Z1c was my first Sony. Of course I had to do a little research about rooting, but I did not find it particularly difficult-and I do not consider myself a rooting genius.
Z1c is in a league of its own, the other minis are not even close. Read a little bit, learn the rooting process well and go buy it!

hi,
thx for your answer.
Now 3 hours later i read a lot about rooting a Z1c.
Plz tell me if i´m wrong, i will make the following steps:
1) installing flashtool-drivers on my PC to have the right drivers
2) use the tool "newroot" to get root without unlocking the bootloader
3) backup my DRM-keys with Backup-TA-9.11
4) flash Z1C-lockeddualrecovery (custom recovery)
4a) make a nandroid backup
5) unlock the bootloader on Sony Unlock Website
6) flash a custom ROM like slim or other
7) flash gapps
thx
m.

Yes, the procedure looks correct. But I have to say that I do not remember the procedure I followed exactly, it's been a long time ago and I never bothered with it again.

Phones from providers tend not to be unlockable so would check that if you want to unlock the bootloader.

[Q] I got the Xperia Neo. Now what ?

Hello, guys, after reading and using the xperia x1 section here for years, yesterday i bought xperia neo - my first android device and of course, another SE device for my history collection . Since there isnt a Neo's section here, and I believe the difference between Arc and Neo according to the software is really slight,I would like to ask you :what now: - how to check if my device is rooted (and if so or not, what to do ?... are the ARC themes and etc. in that section appliable to the neo..10x )
to check your phone root status get Root Checker from market (free).
There's a guide covering the various ways to root ones phone here.
And I wouldn't try installing the Arc themes onto anything but an Arc.
Whilst the Arc and Neo are very similar, any themes created using files extracted from an Arc are unlikely to work with a Neo.

Well, arent they having the fuction of add ons and ready akp-s?If not, then i shoul check the general Adroid theme developing,i guess ? :-o. ALso checked that my phone is not rooted but as i know, more important and lets say vital for my device to get rooted is not to be with unlocked bootloader. Is there way to find out that and most probably, if it is not, i will try rooting it with the universal program(apk) for rooting :gingerbreak http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765

If you unlock the bootloader then its easy, you just unlock it through sony site here
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
then read this
[D550X] CWM-Based Recovery 6.0.4.6 + ROOT for Xperia Z1 Compact {KitKat!} [20140320]
Now if you want to backup DRM keys first, you must root it before unlocking BL, its a bit tricky but make sure you read instructions. Heres 2 thread for more info
Root and Dual Recovery for Locked Bootloader
[GUIDE] Back up DRM Keys & unlock/relock Bootloader (Noob proof)
As for roms I've only tried CM nightly, so far so good.

Rooting without unlocking bootloader is not hard (test point method to unlockbootloader on 2011 xperias is harder). It takes time though as you need to flash 3 times (z1f/docomo model, then normal z1, root and recovery, then z1 compact), continue to recovery then resore the whole system and do the re-root in recovery. (see link posted above). Rooting to kitkat takes more time as you need to get 4.3 root before update.
Personally I find the 4.3 (124) firmware very stable and relatively bugfree. Sony stock 4.4.2 have some bugs and minor update is reportedly incoming. If you buy and got one with 4.3, installed, my recomendation is to wait updating to kitkat until the updated firmware.
Thanks for the input guys I have decided to wait for z2 compact and hope Sony will give a better quality material also I heard they gave up on ASF so I will stick to my g2 atm since 4.4.2 is absolutely brilliant on it. But definitely be waiting for the z2 compact. Sorry if I wasted your time.

Xperia Z1C owners.. i have a question about the speaker audio output quality.. i was reading the review from gsma and they mentioned about weak audio output, so what im confused about (cos i heard in many reviews) is whether the audio quality is good or not? cos volume levels can be bumped up with all the mods..
Audio for me no problem, there is a thread of mod to boot volume (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2476498) if u r rooted. For music I used V4A and better EQ quality.
there is also kitkat fix soon from sony so hopefully will sort out the kitkat bugs.

At the end of the day it's a Phone speaker so it's as good as any other Phone speaker in my opinion.
Considering the phone is water resistant to IP58, I am quite happy with the sound, I expected less.

Several doubts and some help! (newbie)

Hi everyone I'm new in this forum and I don't know anything about this smartphone world but I have some questions about my personal Xperia M. First of all I want to apologize for my bad english coz I hate web-traductors so I don't use them.
A friend told me I should install CM11 (Cyanogenmod If I remind correctly) in my smartphone coz it'd be better, I've tried to find some information in Google in my language coz I barely undertand the english technicisms for smartphones but I didn't fund anything so I decided to post in this forum.
I heard tha there is no official version for my smartphone and If I install an unofficial version this can broke my smartphone, is that true? Do you guys think that the CM11 is advisable for my Xperia? I want to know if It'll improve the performance.
How should I start If I want to install CM11 in my Xperia M? I'll let you some information:
Xperia M Android version 4.3
Xperia M C1905
Never rooted it (I dont how how to do it)
Greetings!

I am also a newbie to Android like you
Do you have a PC with you?
Then why don't you make root access on your phone?
About 75% of my installed apps requires root to get its full potential.
I am on XMD (2004).
otherwise I would help to root your phone.
there maybe many threads for rooting your handset (1905)

& its 'cons' ?
I have heard that many options will not work with CM as it is still on beta stage! is it right?
also if I couldn't lock my boot loader, I will loose my warranty also.

no problem with CM. cuz you can always lock BootLoader via flashtool and there are some minor bugs ( No problems to the user with these bugs)

How can i RooT my 2.3.4 "SonyEricsson XPERIA Play (R800i)" with build number xxx.69?

How can i RooT my 2.3.4 "SonyEricsson XPERIA Play (R800i)" with build number xxx.69?
Ok so....i have been looking for some tutorials (semi NooB here) and i cant seems to find some new one or one that is consistend or just about root.
Also many are outdated, poorly written, and there arent many tutorials as i saw about RooT-ing XPERIA Play, at least not the one with build number .69.
Also if i DO find some good (as i saw from comments) like this one for example: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2204321 (i mean i only really trust XDA forum for stuff i do to my phone) the links for necessary files are long gone.
So...if anyone can please help me or rederect me to some updated, good and thread or website with tutorial that HAS working links, please do!
Anyway...
So i got "SonyEricsson XPERIA Play" (R800i) with build number 4.0.2.A.0.69, With Android version 2.3.4. Its never been RooT-ed as i know.
So i just want to RooT it so i can remove ANNOYING bloatware and free up some space and make it clean teh way I want tbh! I see no other reason to RooT it... I mean there is one but im still thinking about it (for now) and that is, as i heard, since X-Play doesnt have any OFFICIAL updaes, its stuck on Android 2 (gingerbread) i heard that i can flash a ROM to Android 4, and that improves gaming, which is what i want TBH, i mainly, if not always, use this phone for gaming and emulators, and if Android 4 custom ROM can improve already great (for X-Play ofc) performance, id be happy to do so!!!
But first thing first, i like to get informed first of all... But as for now, im just looking help for first step, and that is: How to RooT my XPERIA Play, please?
Thanks guys! ^^
Anyone..i tried numerous stuff, but im constantly stuck..cant seems to rood. idk what am i doing wrong

Looking into unlocking the bootloader and moving to LOS on my XZ2c - not sure where to start

hi there. I've had my XZ2 Compact (H8324) for a while now, and I'm looking into finally switching to LineageOS on it (preferably with MicroG instead of normal GApps suite, although it looks like it's not an option for now).
the problem is, I haven't tinkered with my devices for a while now - the last time I did that was on my Xperia mini pro about 7 years ago, and obviously a lot has changed since that.
it also doesn't help that the XZ2 Compact has a bit worse dev support than my previous device used to, and the documentation of the process seems to be a bit missing, too. I've seen some discussions link to the regular XZ2 forum for certain tools, so it's a little bit all over the place.
I'm not completely sure what's the procedure now, what tools should I use to unlock and flash the device, and what precautions do I need - for example, as far as I can tell from this thread, there's no need to fix the camera if I unlock the bootloader when running Android 10, but I'd want to make sure that it's correct. any suggestions on where to start the whole thing from would be very appreciated.
the device is H8324 (dual-SIM) running the latest available version of Android 10 - 52.1.A.3.49, and all the steps that require using PC will be performed from a Linux machine.
thanks in advance!
On most phones unlocking the bootloader wipes the phone.
Before anything backup, backup, BACKUP to an external device!
This can be tricky if you're not rooted and can't use an application such as Titanium Backup.
I use SMS Backup/Restore (Google Play Store) to backup my call logs and text messages and backup contacts using default contact manager.
If you're going to unlock and root on stock ROM camera should be fine.
If you're going to run a custom ROM check the forums for known issues.

yeah, I've got the backups covered, my SMS are saved in the Signal backup and my contacts are all synced. thanks for looking out for me though!
from what I can tell, the LineageOS issue you quoted only affects Sony's camera app, while taking pictures with alternative apps works okay - and I'm fine with that. I just wanted to double check that there's no problems with viewfinder preview and the like, like it used to be with some Xperias in the past after unlocking the bootloader.
