is this something new? i cant seem to find a place to change it either..
i'd rather have my contacts on exchange, but i added a few new contacts the other day and noticed they are on my phone
so, how do i change the default action to save new contacts to XXXX account?
guess i could just read them directly from exchange if i had to..
There used to be an option to change the default save location on the old touchiwiz, can't find it anywhere on the phone.
well that makes me feel a little better that im not blind
guess i'll just have to delete those contacts then add them back in via outlook. this way they go to the correct place..
thanks for looking though

I exported my contacts from gmail and imported them into Outlook (I'm attempting to sync the contacts from my Android phone onto my Windows Mobile phone), however when I bring them into Outlook, anyone who's name was split up (for example "John Smith") it refiled as "Smith, John" so when I then sync that to my phone, it's displayed everyone with their last name first. This makes it impossible to find anyone and I want them to all show with their first name first, ie. "John Smith" but the only way I've found to do that is to click on each contact individually and change it.
Is there a better/faster way to make all of them just show up with their first name first? If not, let me know if you're interested in buying a Touch HD, because it's pretty much useless if it's gonna rename all my contacts every time I sync.
Try Shubaroo Contact Changer, it doesn't change anything except the "File As" value so they all appear First, Last.
Hi i have the htc desire and of course i have tried different roms lol.
My contacts seem to have become really messed up for some reason and i am looking for a way to fix it by starting afresh.
My contacts are synced to the google account but when i resync them back to my phone i seem to have 3 or 4 for each contact, this shows its self in the link thing where you can link a contact to facebook account.....the contacts are also linked to google contacts that are the same.
Is there a way i can remove them all from my handset and also from google and start over ... if so how....even if this means i have to manually type them all in again.
I have backed them up to the sd card by exporting them as a file but i think these may also hold the problem of the linked contacts too.
So what would be the best way to sratr over again ?
Thanks
Have you gone into... people then menu then view, to tick or untick the ones you want to show
You can merge duplicated gmails contacts. Go to
http://www.google.com/contacts
I upgraded from Incred 1 to 2 and now when I add contacts to the phone I dont get the option to associate them with my Gmail account like I used to, it stores them to the phone, with that now they are not stored in my gmail desktop after sync. So if I do anything with this phone like ROM or lose it all of my recently added contacts will be gone. How do I fix this??

I had this issue when I first got my original Incredible. All my contacts were associated with my "phone." I got backup assist and then backed them up. Once i was done backing them up i went into my verizon and was able to export my contacts to a csv. From there I imported them into my gmail. Then synced my gmail contacts to my phone. There might be a better way of doing this with an app or something, but that's just what i used at the moment. I'm not sure if you can go and edit them to be a "Google" Contact instead of a Phone contact, from what I saw, no.
Now that I too have a dinc 2, I can tell you that when you go to create a new contact it will say "Contact type" and see if there's a Google option there. I have Google, SIM, and Phone.
I just saw the contact type drop down,. You dont have that option if you dont use it the first time, editing does not allow you to change that. Im good now going forward. THANKS!! My inc1 came up with the account association choices as a step you needed to do to move on. This one just defaults to the phone unless you hit the drop box and chose.
How do you like your inc2 compared to your inc?
It looks like my new contacts that I add on my note sync's with google sometimes. I'm not sure why but it seems like some contacts will sync with no issues and be on my google account with no issues then some of them only syncs to my phone. Anyone have any idea why this is happening?
for whatever reason, new contacts get stored on the phone, I had made a post a while back about this.
added new contacts to the phone, and expected them to go to exchange, found out they were stored on the phone, on my old S2 I had the option to change where the contact was stored, directly from the phone.
that is not an option on this phone currently.
my workaround was to create the contact in outlook, so it would go to exchange, then it will sync to phone. in your case, probably just create the contact at the google website, then let it sync to you phone.
Yeah, that's what I started to do but it's just annoying because I grab a friends number on the fly and not remember to do that. I just find it weird that it only works sometimes.

Are you selecting Google contact as your option as it seems to default to device if you do not specify.
When I add a contact, it always gives me a choice where to store it. I always choose Google.
You know sometimes it's the simple things that get overlooked.. I totally missed that option when creating a new contact. I was trying to find a way to change where it was stored after it was created.
Thanks for the helpful info.

You must mean set a preference so you are not selecting Google every time you create a contact. I have yet to find that out (not that the extra prompt is a big deal for me), but there is Manage Contacts > Copy Contacts to be able to duplicate what is on your device to your Google account.
Me, I hardly ever add contacts directly on my phone. I usually add them through the Google account on my PC and let them filter down to my phone.
Maybe we should ask them through google play feedback.
