Hello all, please be gentle, I'm only back to the Android scene after a sebactical using iPhone. I have a UK O2 HTC One M8, CID is O2___001, HTCdev unlocked with S-On. I have installed a GPE rom (SkyDragon v3.0.1), brilliant rom, but wanted to revert back to stock sense. All the guides I have read state that in order to revert back to a sense rom I need to have S-Off, however the firewater method isn't working (having tried a number of different kernels), nor does the Sunshine method. I have tried to find an O2 RUU for the same CID with no avail, so am really hoping someone can help. Ultimately I am wanting to convert my phone to a GPE with OTA, but need to be S-Off to try this, hoping if I can get back to a Sense rom I will be able to achieve this. Hope this all makes sense. I have spend a good part of the morning searching through these forums, google, and even youtube looking for help, but am having no luck.
I have also tried to flash Android Revolution HD 21.0, it appears to install correctly, buy when it reboots it won't boot past the white HTC screen, all other guides state that I need to update the firmware, but need S-Off in order to to this.
Im starting to get confused so would really appreciate nay help anyone can give me.
Cheers in advance for anyone kind enough to reply.

You only need to "convert" back (s-off required) if you did the full conversion to GPE in the first place. That also requires s-off, and you mentioned you only flashed a GPE ROM (not full conversion) so it doesn't apply to you.
You can just flash a Sense ROM. But as you mentioned, you will encounter the firmware issue on newer Sense ROM. But there are still a variety of Sense ROMs still based on older versions (to get back to Sense).
However, you will want the stock ROM and stock recovery for the best chance of sunshine to work, and it doesn't look like those are posted on the stock nandroid collection for your CID: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
RUUs are only available for US carriers, AFAIK. So that is why you can't find one for O2.
Thank you, found an old sense rom that matched my firmware, and sunshine worked, not have S-Off, thank you again.

Hello XDA community,
I have the following problem. I bought an unbranded HTC Desire HD but when the Gingerbread update was released and I did not receive it and got curious what was going on.
Using CID Getter, I found out that the CID of my phone is T-MOB101 whereas it should be HTC_001 on an unbranded phone. The software information on my phone is as follows:
Android: 2.2.1
Software number: 1.72.405.3
Using the search function in this forum, I found out that the T-MOB101 CID only exists with the software number 1.32. As far as I know this means that the phone I bought was a branded phone which was overwritten with another stock rom with the software version 1.72. That means I can wait until kingdom comes regarding the Gingerbread update.
I'd really like to update to Gingerbread and fix my phone in this respect. Having conducted some research, I found out that (1) changing the CID requires to downgrade to 1.32 because I'd need to root the phone and that is not possible with 1.72. If I wanted to back up my phone, e.g. with Titanium Backup, (2) I'd need to root it as well and, thus, downgrade to 1.32. Also, if I wanted to backup my current ROM with ROM Manager, I'd need the required privilidges and root and, therefore before, downgrade the phone.
If I have to go through this trouble, I think, I could install a custom rom as well (e.g. Virtuous Unity as I'd like to have Sense 3.0). I've found out that I always have to downgrade no matter which option I choose because I need to be able to root the phone and, apparently, that's not possible with 1.72. - Is all of the above concluded correctly?
In fact, I'd just like to install a custom rom with sense 3.0 now and be able to flash back to the stock rom, just in case I'd ever need to meet the requirements for warranty, and backup the files I need to backup (except for data which I can synchronize from the Google server, of course).
Does anyone have an optimal procedure of solution at hand? - I'd be very grateful. - Thank you very much in advance.
Cheers,
B-Ball
ok...if you say you're phone is branded you need to create a goldcard first to downgrade and i believe it already exists a thread for downgrading...just do a search
Well, I am not sure if you can still call my phone a "branded" one due to the above facts. I assume it was branded and then an unbranded stock rom with the software version 1.72 was installed but the CID was not changed.
However, do you think there is a way for me to be able to install a custom rom with sense 3.0 and be able to flash back to a strock rom at a later point if I have to downgrade first in order to get root rights?
Yes you will have to downgrade first to be able to get root rights and change the CID.
To get back to stock you have to use a RUU. These are official HTC utilities that wipe out all the changes (just about) that you made to your phone and make it stock. There is a thread somewhere for these. I think in Development.

You need the official RUU to go back to stock and if you want to change the CID you still need to root your device
Hi, I regret to say I am a noob. I have read around for the past few days and have a general idea of rooting and flashing ROMs.
I have a branded T Mobile DHD and I not only want it debranded, but I want it to function as if T Mobile never touched it. That is, I want to be able to debrand it once and then receive OTA updates direct from HTC when they are released (all the way up to the eventual ICS).
I have two main questions. One, can I replace the T Mobile ROM with the Stock HTC one without root and without a custom recovery (that is, installing the stock ROM using the stock recovery -renaming it update.).
Two, do I need to change the CID to HTC__001 to enable future OTA updates?
There may be things I have missed. Please point me in the right direction if this is the case, cause the info I've found isn't as specific as I'd like it.
Thank you!
Unfortunately not sure if there is such a thing. I have rooted and used custom ROMS and in the end went back to my providers RUU. I find even though some bloat ware the software is fast enough bug free and battery life is very good. Search the net maybe find your answer there.

I should have clarified, I'm using a T Mobile DHD off ebay with a 3 sim. The reason I want to have a clean DHD is primarily so I can be free from waiting on T Mobile for updates. The reason I want to be clean and have OTA direct from HTC is because I've always been happy with stock, unbranded ROMs.
Thanks though.
Is there no way of completely restoring the DHD to a purely unbranded state so that it functions as a factory bought one?
I read this
"If you're coming from a branded ROM and just want to debrand, you can stop here. By reverting back to an unbranded 2.2 ROM, you will now be able to receive OTA update straight from HTC without any network bloatware. You can continue with the root process, but it is not recommended you download OTA updates when rooted."
on androidforums, the thread "How to root and install a custom ROM on the Desire HD" (I can't post links)
Which is what got me thinking about debranding and leaving it there, but reading up about CID and OTAs I got confused, wouldn't mine still be T Mobiles and not HTC__001 after downgrading? It'd be great if someone could explain how simply reverting back using a goldcard results in successful HTC OTAs.
Or I could just root the phone and install HTC WWE ROMs as they appear online.
What would be best?
You would have to gain root/soff/supercid first after that you just simply flash the unbranded ruu.
It should be doable, I would imagine all it takes is setting the proper CID/MID and flashing a WWE RUU, and never rooting/installing custom recovery.

Could I use the Advanced Ace Hack Kit to give me those permissions, then using the Kit revert it to a WWE RUU?
If not, I'll try rooting then installing a RUU separately. I know how to install ROMS from zip files through recovery, how do I install a stock exe RUU on a rooted phone?
Reverting back to son unbranded to me would be an unnecessary step. This is what I would do.
1)use the hack kit to get supercid/soff
2) flash the unbranded ruu
3)done
To flash an ruu, you would simply just run the program from your PC with your phone connected
I know there is multiple threads that I have read through regarding the unroot process but it seems like I have not found a definitive thread for someone looking to unroot an original GPE M8 that has a GPE ROM installed. Im not talking about anything being converted over the Sense, im talking everything still all GPE..I have mine running Sinless ROM (GPE version) and I am wanting to unroot and bring back to 100% stock. Has anyone done this yet and if so could you please show me the process of how it was done? Been trying to figure this out for awhile now and I would greatly appreciate it!
It looks like you've since moved on from the GPE M8, but did you ever find a solution? I'm looking for the same rom. I've been hoping that the lollipop release would provide stock roms but that got delayed!

everything you need to return your phone to stock is here

you may need s-off
Hi, I attempted flashing the RUU both ways but neither worked. The ADB method resulted in error 99, an error not listed in the guide. I suspect this may be due to have s-on. Unfortunately there isn't any method as far as I am aware of to turn s-off. Both firewater and sunshine do not work with the GPE M8. I may just attempt to build a ROM from source.
Hi there,
I have a Telus HTC M8, which I got when it first came out and threw TWRP and Cyanogenmod on it. Great decision.
The only delema I have now, is I am at a point with the cyanogenmod updates that I can not pass a certain one, as it requires a firmware update.
I am on HBoot 3.16
I can not find a nandroid backp of the stock OS for my phone for the correct Hboot
I also can not find the stock recovery for my Hboot
These would be needed to do the OTA update, then go back to TWRP and cyanogenmod.
The other way of updating the firmware (from what I know) is to push the .zip through fastboot.
Although I can not find the firmware update for my Telus device (661 I believe).
I also can not put S-Off to obtain super CID (curently S-On) as firewater is gone, and sunshine requires the factory android.
Any help, links, etc, are appreaciated.
Bump

If you really want S-Off (your best option IMO ~ never wait for Telus to update *my carrier also*) I can help you. Of course, Sunshine is the only way now.
Flash the Maximus HD ROM. It is best if you look for one that matches your firmware/hboot (4.4.2)
A lot of users have reported success with gaining S-Off using this ROM. It is near stock and I can almost 99.9% guarantee it will work.
If you want to take the S-Off route, you can download the Maximus HD 4.4.2 version by clicking this link.
You can also install Rogers or bell from 3.16 hboot. To continue with soff after.
thank you very very much. I will give it a shot and touch base with the results!
wow. Thank you so much!
Life-fu*****-saver!
Much love! <3
p.s. It worked
I've tried searching the forums but i've failed to come up with a suitable rom. I want one without sense but I need it to be not rooted because I use my banking app and it rejects rooted phones - any suggestions?
Thanks
Are you S-OFF? Then just do the full GPe conversion. If not, I'll see what I can find. I'm sure there was a flashable GPe ROM that wasn't rooted...
no, I'm S-ON - i've been looking for a while but failing miserably to find one lol
Struggling to find one! Might just be easier to S-OFF and do the full conversion.
If the @dsixda kitchen was still running I'd make one for you but that was stopped pre-Lollipop
Thanks, I'll look into that. Is it a huge amount of work?
Not really, although if you've not already rooted your phone you will have to first. Before starting anything, connect your phone in fastboot mode and post the output of fastboot getvar all (minus IMEI and S/N). I'll write something up for you
