I'm keen to grab one of the new 4.4.4 Sense-based ROMs (insertcoin or viper), but it would seem that I need to somehow update my firmware.
Problem is, I can't figure out how to do it on my device. I tried using Firewater, but it gives me a 'whelp' messsage and can't S-OFF me, and I can't find an updated version of my firmware to flash.
Can anyone help me? I'm a little lost now I think. I'm using an NZ Vodafone M8, getvar is below. I'm currently running VanirAOSP and TWRP recovery.

Use Sunshine to get s-off. You have to pay $25, but it's worth it. Then you can go SuperCID and flash firmware from any GSM carrier.

Thanks, but still no luck - I've tried running Sunshine now, and it says that my device is incompatible.
Is there anything else I can do? Is there some way to roll back to stock and update that way?

If your already using a 4.4.4 ROM than Sunshine won't work .what you need to do is flash back to complete stock with stock kernel along with root and run Sunshine again

My bad on the first link I was driving and shouldn't have even been looking at my phone.have you made any backups of Roms ever?
You need the the backup directory in your file manager so you can place the extracted backup file in it.
If you don't have the any backup of any ROM than boot to your custom recovery and make a backup of the ROM your on now .when backup completes than reboot to your regular system and go into your root browser so you can place extracted backup file in backup folder .
Boot to recovery again and make sure the backup exists when you tap restore,if you have two backups and you notice the one you placed is one of them than you should be good , restore the backup like you would any other backup

Just bought a M8 and I wanted to root if for a few apps I use, however I didn't know that by putting a custom recovery mod I would not be able to update my phone. Could someone please help me find a way to get my phone back to stock so I can get updates with no problems.

Like I already said all you need do is flash one of the stock recoveries from this thread, use whichever you had originally for your CID.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
You can't ota with a custom recovery.
I love ViperROM and would never want to go back. They are very good about getting updates out pretty quick. So not long after an official OTA comes I think Viper is quick on it. I believe we already had one for the M8. My friend has tried a few roms and thinks Viper is the best.

Did you read anything on the stock backup page?
As long as the base number is the same then you should be able to flash a recovery that matches. You have software version 1.54.708.5 so just flash one that begins with 1.54.
The nearest is:
STOCK RECOVERY 1.54.707.5
Nothing will happen so just go ahead and try it.
Here's the OTA, but it won't install unless you already have the stock OS installed.

OK, you HAVE to follow the guide in Post #2 of the GPe RUU thread to go back to a Sense-based ROM cause the partitions are changed with the GPe conversion. Until you do that it will fail to update any ROMs

Download the ROM again and try again, if it fails copy the .zip file to your computer, use a program like 7zip to extract the files and then use 7zip to zip it again.
It's strange but I did find that some of the .zip files that gets downloaded, firmware, ROMs etc can't be opened and read, throws errors even in windows but you can unzip it with 7zip and then re-zip it and it works fine.
I read somewhere(Can't recall where) that remote 32 header error occurs because the zip can't be properly read or unzipped, so perhaps the above might be a solution... I'm hoping so at least :fingers-crossed:

Version-main is empty as a result of flashing a buggy TWRP and CID is superCID thus hard to tell. MID would fit for 154.401 as well as 2.22.401 recovery. To be sure a question. Are you still running stock ROM. If yes you could check setting > about phone > software information > software number. If you are running a custom ROM this information is likely not to be valid. o2 Germany stock ROM e.g. has a x.xx.207.xx version number

If you are running a custom ROM this information is likely not to be valid. o2 Germany stock ROM e.g. has a x.xx.207.xx version number

Hi
I am running Android Revolution HD.
If you flash Philz Recovery, you will at least be able to get your version-main back and then you'll be able to look for that version in the Stock Recovery Section.
You CID should probably either be O2___001 or O2___002..

Hi John
Can i install Philz alongside TWRP?
Also i downloaded Build prop editor and under "ro.aa.cidlist" has the following cid numbers
htc 001
htc e11
htc 102
htc 203
htc 405
etc. Are they relevant?
Philz will overwrite TWRP as you can only run one recovery at a time.
This list names CID of different carriers.

Will flash Philz shortly and hopefully that will provide me with Main version. However one last question. Will the Harman & Kardon prevent me from going back to stock?

How long ago did you get the phone, and have you done any OTA updates since you've had it.
If you bought it before March/April (ish) and haven't done any updates then it's likely that you're on the 1.12.206.17 version.
If you've done an OTA since then you'll probably be on 1.54.206.5... in which case try this, this is the stock recovery for 1.54.206.5..
There are Backups for both versions in the Stock Backups Page.
This is for the 1.12.206.17
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_9hxg3el0DpN2xpbkx6NGkwRE0/edit?pli=1
And this is for the 1.54.206.5
https://mega.co.nz/#F!odoimZRD!fXWN36-1i3AUdkAHcgfy_A
I'm not trying to mess you about, honest, but you'll to go back to TWRP to use them.

Definitely had ota since getting phone. Only rooted in the last 10 days. Thanks for all your help. Will use 154..... If I decide too.

HBOOT 3.18 ? You updated the OTA to latest 4.4.3?
If so then you're fresh out of luck, I don't see any 2.xx.206/207.x stock recoveries for O2(UK/German) devices. Even on the German forum they only have the 1.54.206.5/10 ones.
Only choices you have then is to either:
1) convert - Seeing as you are S-OFF
2) roll back to older version and go through update again this time taking a backup of stock recovery. Flash old Firmware, you can probably get tutorials on here somewhere on how to do it.
3) scout the mobile phone boards(locally) and see if someone can drop you a stock recovery or
4) Wait until someone uploads a stock recovery.
In order to provide these stock recoveries, we need people to upload them and share the links and as you can see, guys like you don't do it! So we're stuck with no backups to share with guys in similar position like yourself
Good Luck!

I take it they rolled out the latest 4.4.3 for the customers. Honestly I wasn't keeping tabs on whether they rolled or not. I just saw the HBOOT version and thought that he might have updated to 4.4.3 because as far as I know it only changed to 3.18 with 4.4.3 before then it was 3.16. I could be wrong though?
I suppose if the OP didn't flash any custom ROMs etc he could just go to settings > about > software information, and confirm either way

He's already on Android Revolution HD.
There's a link to the 1.54.206.5 firmware on the Android Revolution Site, but would it work with the wrong version-main in the android-info.txt
http://xda7.androidrevolution.org/db_mirror/Firmware/index.php?dir=HTC/HTC_One_M8/206/
I think the way I got my version-main back, was to flash a different version stock recovery, it wouldn't work because it was the wrong version number, it just kept dropping back to HBoot, but it did bring it back when I then reflashed CWM / Philz.

What I meant was.. You probably had the right recovery or at least knew what one you needed.
It's a similar situation to one that I was in the other day. I had no version-main, so I didn't know which recovery to flash. So I took a guess and flashed a stock recovery for my device, it didn't work because it was the wrong one, but it did give me my version-main back in getvar all.
I then flashed back to Philz Recovery because I had no recovery. Once I knew the version main, I managed to find the recovery... :good:
...John...
To confirm I am on 4.4.3. I will see what comes along in near future. Should of read a few more posts before rooting.. Again help appreciated.

Hi Rlumby.
I was just wondering why you want to return to the stock recovery. Do you need to to send it back, so you need to return it back to it's original condition or do you want to keep it open for OTA's, etc...
Since you are S-Off and SuperCID, I don't see any reason why you couldn't flash another carriers firmware, or like BerndM14 said, maybe convert it to a Developer Edition or a GPE Edition.. It will wipe everything so if you do go down this road, make sure you back everything up first...
...John...
Hi John.
It was just an option should I choose to. Now you mention it I may go for developer edition. Will check out what's out there.

I have read threads about same version that says after custom roms their phone cannot get connection. My phone is Unlocked and S-off. Can anyone tell me what I am going to do? As you've somewhat figured out, current ROMs are likely going to give you issues due to your outdated firmware (hboot, radio, etc.).
Best bet is to run the Verizon MM RUU (will wipe the phone, so backup anything you want to keep to removable SD or off the phone, before RUU).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/general/official-ruu1-55-605-2-t2883845
From there, you can install TWRP and current ROMs, and I would recommend sticking to ROMs that specifically support the VZN version M8.

You don't need to flash 4.4.4. But that does make me remember one thing, the MM (6.0) RUUs have a new requirement, where you can't go from a past version to MM, unless you manually flash the MM firmware first.
So if you get Error 155 or 159 flashing the MM RUU; you'll need to find and flash the matching (6.21.605.3) firmware zip first, then RUU.
Either that, or just run the Lollipop RUU, for which the current MM ROMs should still work fine (with LP firmware).
Another possible approach, is to just find the 6.21.605.3 firmware, flash it, then install TWRP and a ROM (since its really just the firmware we need, anyway).

Yours is a LRA device and as far as I know there is no Marshmallow update for your device version.
The latest update is Lollipop 4.21.512.4
I suggest you install 4.21.512.4 RUU then check for OTA to see is there any further update to Marshmallow.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66044439&postcount=37
Once your firmware is updated to 4.21.512.4, that's good enough for you to install Marshmallow custom ROM, of course you need to use one with VZW support.
I read before flashing a VZW firmware on a LRA device may break your network unless you flash it without VZW rcdata.img

Good to know. Thanks for that, as I was not aware.
I realized the device was LRA from the "512" version number, but figured it would be okay to flash VZN firmware, since OP has SuperCID.
Moral of the story: do as ckpv5 says!

RUU = ROM Update Utility. Its a HTC tool that will update/rewrite all partitions to stock factory condition (and will wipe the phone).
The link is already given, as well as instructions; although they are brief ones. If you have specific questions on the process, ask and we will help.

That's hard for me to recommend because I have a GSM but yours is a LRA. You can only install ROM with Verizon support.
Maybe for a start, this one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...-4-17-605-9-stock-resources-firmware-t3196906
Just note that you can install ROM but not the firmware.

I am actually now getting around to updating. I just want to know some things if you could help me with
1. If I install the firmware first, would my boatloader lock? Or can I just not do this process at all?
2. Can I install this ROM with the stock recovery?
3. Will not installing the firmware affect anything at all?
Sorry for n00b questions, I might be overcomplicating things here

No, firmware won't lock the bootloader.
2. Can I install this ROM with the stock recovery?
No, you need custom recovery TWRP.
3. Will not installing the firmware affect anything at all?
To be clear I do think you need to RUU up to Lollipop first, then install the MM ROM. From there, I don't think you need MM firmware.

Presumably you (or somebody else) used the sunshine app to s-off. If so, you should be able to use the sunshine app again without paying. Sunshine can unlock the bootloader, since its already s-off.

Hi, I just bought this great phone, and I need your help, I want to install MM, my HTC is the European Version Model OP6B100, Android 4.4.4, firmware 3.31.512.2, It is S-OFF, is unlocked, rooted and I have install TWRP, and I successfully Installed a Custom Marshmallow but after reboot just go straight to Bootloader, It does not load the ROM, I read and I understood We cannot jump from KITKAT to MM, I also installed LP but same happened. Help me to install LP and then LP, by the way ROMs I used were HD revolution.
Thanks in advanced.
