GRRR!! This is really starting to bug me!! The problem began about 6 months ago when I still had the good ol' original Tilt. I'll begin uploading, let's say, a photo. A single photo. Any size, doesn't matter. It begins uploading fine but will ALWAYS, suddenly and for no apparent reason, stop uploading. I have no idea why!
Obviously it's not a rom issue since this problem has followed me from phone to phone. I've flashed 3 or 4 separate roms on the Tilt 2 and experienced the problem with every one of them. Even the stock rom!!!
I've tried installing the cabs for removing the hidden AT&t proxies and whatnot, but it's no help.
I can't even run a speed test!! On speedtest.net it flys through the download portion at about 1.9 Mbps, the upload hits 0.81 consistently, but once the progress gets to 99% it of course stops uploading. And the speed begins to fall as the test continues running without any upload traffic.
I've tried letting it sit overnight while I slept, hoping maybe it was just hiccups in the connection or some other kind of illogical nonsense. But sure enough, I wake up and it's at the same spot it was when I left it.
I also thought it may have been that my account was somehow flagged by AT&T for too much data use, since I don't actually pay for the tethering. But I've been told MOST WinMo users don't pay for their tethering and none have had this problem? Nonetheless, I even went so far as to CLOSE MY ACCOUNT AND OPEN A NEW ONE!! Still no luck.
Uploads work great phoneside... quick, reliable... but as soon as it's connected to the computer I can't do SH8T!!!
Not through Bluetooth
Not through WiFi sharing
Not through USB
So I pray to you, the infinitely wise Gods of XDA. Please! Hear my prayers and guide me to the answer I seek!
no one knows what might cause this problem?
I don't really know why it is causing that problem. I did a quick search and many people complain about the same thing. But also I read a lot of positive responses about a few programs that help you tether. You could always try it and see if it helps.

Hey there. This is my first post but rest assured I'm not really a noob (been editing wm reg for at least 5 years...)
I am grandfathered in to an unlimited data plan with at&t (although I did have to go from $20 to $30 a month when I upgraded to the tilt2/rohdium) and I have a minor but seriously annoying problem with using xda-wifi-sharing & bittorrent under some pretty specific circumstances.
I have been using my service to download video for several years as I don't have a tv or internet any other way. I get much of my tv video from tvtorrents.com as you can download entire seasons of just about any tv worth watching.
When I am downloading a season torrent (multiple episodes, many peers etc...) my 3G/HSDPA connection times out or gets "stuck" and requires me to restart the data service on the phone. While this has happened before, rarely, it is happening very frequently now.
Using tvtorrents for these type of downloads affords many high speed seeds and I think that the number of seed/peer connections is somehow overwhelming the 3G/HSDPA data connection, causing it to time out. This never used to happen with this frequency and I'm not sure what to do.
Thanks for your help and thank Jebus for this site (and I don't even believe in Jebus...) as I would never have gotten this far without you all.
tilt2, wm 6.5 stock rom, bloat and crippleware removed
Have you tried a torrent software on the phone itself and downloaded to your Storage Card? My thought it to eliminate the tethering part to see if that has something to do with the lock out.

hmmm... wasn't aware of a bittorrent client for WM. I've been using uTorrent on my laptop for a few years now without any problems until recently. Right now my girlfriend also connects through the xda-wifi-router and this doesn't happen (at least nowhere near the frequency it happens to me). Physical tethering is a bit of a pain as I find that the orientation of the phone (in relation to laptop) and distance from my laptop significantly affects bandwidth.
I'm thinking about un/reinstalling utorrent, and maybe changing where the tilt2 is in the room... it's been working so well for so long, I'm sure I can get it to work again.
I've also had intermittent crash problems with device.exe on the tilt2, maybe this is related?
Thanks for your help
Ok, I guess that my problem was with at&t's network (damn iPhone users.. ..). Anywho, I have not made any substantial changes, yet all of the sudden, everything works fine.
I am reluctant to call at&t as they want to verify my network settings ( that have been working fine forever but might concern them as I am the network hog, not the iPhone users.. hehe). Every time I call I call from my phone and they have a hard time understanding that it is the only phone I have available.
Strangely, the very act of having one of their techs look at my account seems to fix my problem (most of the time it is that I am traveling).
Regardless, thanks for your help!
Hello,
there are a number of issues I'm facing after upgrading to 2.3.3. The most annoying is the inability to connect to data internet. Its weird because some applications detect the internet and work just fine...like opera mini, UK newspapers...whereas majority of the apps.. Facebook for android, whatsapp, techradar etc.. Even the xda app don't work. Errors like "check your internet please" or "no route to host" or "please turn on your data connection" show up. Is anyone else facing similar issues?
I have been facing other problems since I upgraded through Kies to 2.3.3.
1. The Samsung keyboard is acting weird: I used to be able to click multiple times on the ".,?" button to get the other symbols (like, I would click twice to get the comma). but now it prints all of the symbols in the row. For example If I click twice, it gives me both the full stop and the comma!
2. The WiFi keeps disconnecting from the access point. I have a wifi ADSL router at home and I used to stay connected as long as I stayed within the range but now it just disconnects while I'm in my bedroom. It happens in all sorts of scenarios so I'm sure it's not an application thing.
3. It now takes like FOREVER to download attachments. A simple 40kb image takes between 1 and 5 minutes to download or sometimes just never does.
My tab was pretty stable with Froyo and I had updated it once through Kies, but this Gingerbread update has been a real disappointment so far because the only improvement I have noticed has been the changes made to the icons and the new sketch notes app! The tab is not faster and there are no changes in the looks of the Samsung home as well. What the heck?!
to all grand users,
i have been on sgg(GT 19082) for 6 months, but since the last month ,im encountering certain problems over my wifi...
1. i have tried many browsers(so mostly aint a browser issue) but still the time required to load any webpage needs a minimum of 15-25 sec.this is real frustrating as i was used to smooth and minimum loading time.similarly videos need 1-2 minutes to start and buffer time has increased too.
2. time required to initialise a download too has increased.what took 5-10 seconds now takes 1-3 minutes to just start up.gladly the download speed hasnt varied.(updates on playstore thus stack up)
3. on palystore, the result to any search takes 2 minutes(initially 3 seconds) and even after the results appear ,images of app and icon seem invisible.
this is defenitely not a internet issue as im not encountering any kinds of trouble on my pci have treid switching browsers and wiping data, flashing differnt roms but the problem seems to persist.
.hope anyone has had a similar situation before me.any kinds of solutions and suggestions are welcome.
The download speed is unaffected, but everything else seems to load very slow? It's not possible.
What ROMs have you tried? The scope of the problem can be very wide... Have you tried using another WiFi router and see if it's still slow?
Clean cache ?

From what the OP described if the download speed is the same but the buffering is slow, it sounds like there's either too many apps using or requesting the Wi-Fi simultaneously or over time, the cache and more likely, residual files, have piled up together in the app folders.
The bigger these folders get, the more the app itself has to search through it's files to use the current one, thereby causing a delay in processing/buffering time.
Cleaning cache would be a good idea, it should help for a little while like akiratoriyama suggested, otherwise it'll have to be a complete data wipe/format to fix the problem.
Don't think this is necessarily unique to the Pixel 2 XL, but that's the phone I'm currently using. Since I purchased the phone a couple months ago, every site I pull up on Chrome will automatically reload every 30 seconds to a minute. Even chrome:// setting pages aren't immune. It doesn't matter if I have one tab open or 15. I tried clearing all Chrome data and settings, but that didn't have any effect.
I've seen lots of reports of Chrome refreshing inactive tabs, but that isn't what's happening here. Anyone else experience this issue? Other browsers (i.e. Firefox) aren't affected. I'm currently on 8.1.0 with the December 5, 2017 patches. Chrome is currently up-to-date (63.0.3239.111).

I'm not seeing this at all. I can't recall the last time I saw a page refresh in Chrome... ever. Maybe it will shift a bit (or look like refresh) while loading a really graphics intensive page, but once it fully loads it does not change. Are you using an adblocker? Maybe you've changed a setting or flag in Chrome. Flags now sort by date modified, so you can see the ones you've changed at the very top. ie. chrome://flags/
I've never had a tab just refresh while viewing it. I did have an issue where pages would refresh if I switched away from a tab or from Chrome to another app. It was a pain in the ass if I was doing something like typing in a comments section and wanted to look at a different tab or app. I haven't had that problem since getting my Pixel 2 XL.
I've been getting this on chrome the most, but I've had it refresh/redraw on a variety of apps. XDA, Google Messenger, Facebook messenger, and Inbox are the other common ones.
Yeah, this has been driving me nuts. I used to stay logged into my company website for a couple of hours but this constant reloading logs me out and I have to log back in. Super annoying.
Sounds like you should look at RAM usage around the time that it happens. May be you're aggressively swapping between mobile data and wifi? Shot in the dark
YES!! YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I have this issue too! Both on my pixel 2 xl (I've owned 3 of them, it happened on all of them) and also my pixel 2 xl. RAM is definitely not the issue here. It even happened while I was in safe mode. So I'm thinking it might be something substratum or magisk related.
Here are the apps I currently remember being affected by this refresh issue.
Telegram
Youtube
Chrome
Tugabrowser
Gboard
Textra
Mozilla Firefox for Android
Perhaps we could all provide a list of applications that we have installed, cross-reference the ones common to all of our devices so we can narrow down our search?
In this thread they suggest it's a network issue. When your phone get's low on signal, people have suggested it is causing the refresh. Check running your phone with airplane mode on and see.
It's happening to me constantly on my Pixel 2 XL and it's maddening. I am sitting 5' away from my router (OnHub). I cannot even write this post properly.
Total shot in the dark, based on the network issues post, but remember the problem with Chromecast causing network issues a few weeks ago? For me the issue began just about the time that a fix was supposed to have been implemented. Just wondering if there may be a connection? I use Google Home, Chromecast and an OnHub. I also see occasional toast messages that I've lost WiFi when my Wifi is on an working fine on all my other devices.

Yeah man. I don't know about it being Chromecast related.. as i still have my Chromecast now, no pixel 2 xl and no stupid redraws.
I returned my pixel 2 and got a OnePlus 5t. Haven't had any of these problems since
Also Having this issue
I got in touch with support about this about a month after I got my Pixel 2. They had me clear the cache, then boot into "safe mode" which disables all 3rd party apps. in that condition the problem went away in chrome (the only app I had seen the issue in that I could access through "safe mode") so they suggested I so a factory reset, and add apps one at a time to hone in on the problem.
I was a bit miffed as I hadn't had any issues on my 6p, and I hadn't added any apps since I moved over to the Pixel, but I played along and started fresh.
I haven't seen the issue for about 3 months now, until yesterday. I have been adding apps slowly as I go, and the re-appearance of the problem doesn't seem to be tied to a specific app, since it has been over 2 weeks since I have added anything new to my phone aside from pictures and podcasts.

I tried the same thing. It still happened in safe mode. I'm inclined to believe it's a signal issue as others are saying
I posted this on another site, but thought I'd post here as well since I was looking for the answer here previously, in case anyone else is searching:
"Had been noticing this issue for a while, with Facebook, Chrome, Messages refreshing constantly. I have the Pixel 2 and a Skagen Hybrid watch. After reading this thread, found that the refresh was occuring every time bluetooth disconnected or reconnected, which was occurring frequently because it was at the edge of bluetooth range with the watch in another room.
Used IFTTT to log bluetooth connections and disconnections with the watch while the watch was in another room for an hour, followed by an hour wearing the watch with the phone nearby.
In the hour tested with the watch in another room, I logged 32 connections & 31 disconnections - would cause 63 refreshes. In the following hour testing with the watch on my wrist, I logged 0 connections & 0 disconnections.
If you find the same, disconnect the watch/turn off bluetooth when you're not wearing it to avoid the refresh issue. Might be the same with other bluetooth devices, didn't test using any others."

This is not a fix. I have a Withings Steel HR Sport (and previously a Misfit Shine 2) and I have that permanently connected, I also use bluetooth for the car so I don't want to be turning this off and on all day. I didn't have this issue at all under similar conditions, it only started popping up around July for me and it is infuriating when apps, videos and webpages are refreshing whilst reading them. I have factory reset my phone once and that didn't solve the issue either.
Is anyone else still experiencing this issue?
